[Q] Anyone have to replace their LCD screen? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Mine shattered today and I need to replace it. Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion on what site to use to get a new one and how easy/hard it is.

They are expensive I paid 50 for mine . Your best bet is ebay

I replaced mine, pretty easy. You can check out youtube for video tutorials, and yeah, the digitizer is pretty pricey. Just make sure you have some adhesive available and take your time.

I will be needing to replace mine. The part should arrive soon, this is what I ordered;
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005QXQXYI/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details
It comes with a new bezel attached and with power/volume buttons pre-assembled. Rather nifty if I do say so myself.

That's a very handy assembly. I spent probably 2 hours getting the tape in all the right places to put it together.

Digitizer
I had to repace one on the G2x I got off ebay awhile back. I would suggest that you check out the youtube video on disassembly. You have to be careful when you get to the part where you lift out the motherboard. You have to lift up the old digitizer cable connector as well as the lcd screen will be somewhat stuck to a gasket around the face. Once you get past that it should go fine. The best price for a digitizer is on ebay, just make sure you get the one with the frame. Good luck.
Eddie

Also make sure you buy one with adhesive on the frame cause mine didn't have it and its getting a hole bunch of dust specs

Send it to LG. Factory tech replacement with original part for around $70.00. If I had that option that is the route I would go.

It's very simple to return the phone to stock.

I just replaced my wife's digitizer. I got the white one from California on ebay. Simple if you are good with your hands. Take your time, I glued the new digitizer cause that's how lg did it. Works flawlessly.

I don't know their actual stance on this, but I don't think they should care/find out that it's rooted.
#1 if you are paying for their service, it's not a warranty issue.
#2 why would they even need to poke around in your phone to replace the screen?

[Q] cracked screen

cracked screen. Do i just need to replace the screen(cheaper)? or just replace phone.
Uhhhh, what do you want to do? If you fix the digitizer screen, it would be cheaper than buying a new phone. But I think that question is up to you.
I have to agree with what he^ said. It is up to you. It is not that hard with the right tools, right amount of time, and of course common sense. I have helped a buddy replace his cracked screen over the phone and it worked out fine. Mind you if you dont have any experence doing this before. Read, watch videos, Read some more. Oh yeah and take your time. If you rush it you will break something important.

I have a broken screen as well. Everything works fine so I think it's just the actual glass. I took it to a store and the guy tells me that he can't replace it.
He tells me that the actual glass and digitizer are two different things... is this the case? I looked for replacement parts on amazon and the touch screen glass seem to be attached to digitizer.
Please advise?
Thanks

He is right they are 2 different parts but most replacements come with it as one part.
Here is the part my buddy got.
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Desire-A9191-Inspire-Replacement/dp/B004TDVF6M
Thank for your help.
The guy at the store told me that he just ordered the digitizer part alone.
I have looked online and found the same product you just linked me with, the screen and digitizer together.
I will order that and the tools together and do it myself.
Would you recommend that?

Personally I have always done my own work. This way I cant blame anyone other then myself if something goes wrong. As long as you take your time and do your research you should be fine.
The digitizer and the glass are 1 part. Well they are separate parts but only the manufacturer can assemble them. So the guy at the store was correct in saying that he cannot replace just the glass. Anything you buy on the net is the touchscreen and glass screen combined into one unit. It is that way for most touchscreen phones. Thanks ThEiiNoCeNT for pointing that out about iphones.
I replaced a friends iPhone screen a few weeks ago and I can say it didn't come with both the digitizer and glass.
Just didn't want you to assume ALL phone replacement screens come together.

[Q] Sidekick 4g glass broken

Hello all,
The glass cover on my sidekick got broken accidentally. The LCD works fine.
I'm planning to get a replacement front panel glass.
I found the following link on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tmobile-Sam...ultDomain_0&hash=item2c605f3c7e#ht_2045wt_905
Is this an original OEM part as described? After it's replaced will it work as good as the original?
Any other options other than the above ebay link?
Please help!
Regards,
sammydude
God only knows. It'll probably work though.
Sorry this is late, but the ribbin cable and glass seem to be just like the original. Let us know how it went.

How did you break it? I'm asking only because I know this is a pretty durable phone, I've already dropped it screen first on gravel, without a scratch to show of it.
This looks legit to me. Digitizer is the key word. I've replaced many of these on different phones. As long as it's a ditizer for the correct phone model number. Are you doing this yourself? There should be some good tutorials on disassembly on youtube.

@AFAinHD It was bizarre! My watch was on a chair. My wife threw my watch onto the bed saying "here it is. keep it ". The metal part of the watch fell on the mobile (the bevel part of the glass). You could imagine our shock after that!!

broke my screen

Broke my screen and looked on ebay for a replacement. What I can't figure out is why there is such a big price difference on all these screens. There are some for 20 all the way up to 100. Can someone chime in on this?

Depends if new or used, the source of the screen, counterfeit or real and also simply what the sellers think they can get.

ones that are legit are going for at least mid 50s I believe on ebay.
The reason there is such a price difference is because you are looking at two different products. I broke my screen last week, but it was only the top layer of glass(called the digitizer) that broke, which only costs $15-20. If you managed to break the glass and the LCD, however(if your screen won't turn on, or is massively discolored), then you need a full LCD replacement, which is much more expensive, costing closer to $150. Hope that helps

There's a seller on eBay that has the model phones for cheap. I paid around $15 shipped for one when i replaced the digitizer on my inc1. Complete shell, battery cover and all, except the lcd and guts

Worth buying an gs3 w/ broken screen?

I have found a craigslist post in my area saying there letting go there phone for $250. In the post they continue to say that only the screen is cracked. A picture they posted shows the phone on with cracks on the screen.
I have emailed them and they replied that if it doesn't sale they will just repair it, because it only cost $18 (this concerns me, why not just repair on such an expensive phone)
My questions: is it worth it?? Also what questions do you think I should ask? And if I meet them in person what should I look for?
Thanks in advanced xda folks!
Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk 2
My friend cracked the glass on his and the screen won't even turn on. I called the phone and it rang but the screen wouldn't light up and the digitizer wouldn't register touches. So I'd stay away.
I have seen replacement screens on eBay for $20 or so, but I believe that the digitizers are glued to the screen.
If you can't cleanly separate the two, you're probably in for the cost of a replacement combo ... about $200.
Still cheaper than a new one outright ...

I've seen replacement screens on ebay for maybe $15-20 but to replace it seems rather difficult: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_70-W9JjVjg&feature=relmfu.
It's really up to you whether it's worth it or not. If you're up for the challenge of replacing the screen (or if you think you can live with the crack, you didn't mention how bad it is) then go for it. If not, I'd probably stay away as this doesn't exactly seem like an easy fix.
Try lowering his price to 200$ then send it in to Samsung they will charge about 190$ to replace it. The digitizer is glued to glass and u won't be able to separate and put on new glass.

It may not be broken but its all one unit.. my guess is they already know this or they would have gotten it fixed themselves
Replacement screens are about 18-20 but replacing them is very difficult because of the adhesive that bonds them... Dont't buy it.. you would have to buy a new bezel with the screen and digitizer attatched to it. about 200-250 itself..A shop around me does it but they said it would be 300 plus labor..
If you can get it at a decent price and can replace the screen cheaply then i would say go for it.

Where did u get that quote I have a broken gs3 and best option is Samsung 180 shipped and returned. OP did the phone need bezel replaced? Here is my damaged phone not one scratch on bezel landed perfectly flat and the SGP case doesn't offer much protection over the screen its almost flush. If it was under or roughly 160-180 plus 180 screen replacement sub 400 gs3 good price.

I live in the Twin cities area of Minnesota... Its a local shop that does all kinds of phones.. But that's what they quoted me.. since it was a such a new phone

What are my options here? Cracked digitizer but NOT cracked screen...

First off, I love my note 3. This phone is so close to perfect I can't bear the fact that I broke it somehow.
After having no case/screen protector since I got this phone.. sometime end of summer.. I bought my first case off of amazon. I received it YESTERDAY.. today.. while it was in the case, in my back pack (in a nice "protective" pouch that is lined with soft cloth) somehow it cracked the lcd screen (or digitizer) but the GLASS IS NOT CRACKED. Infact there's no physical damage to the phone at all, no dents or scratches anywhere on the phone at all, even looking at the screen under a light. Nothing on the glass.
SO I'm heart broken. It's my secondary phone so I have no insurance on it.
What would you do ? It's a sprint phone.. black.
You have to replace your complete screen.
It's called a full assembly.
You can't just replace you lcd alone.
They cost around $200.
Try parts4repair.com
I repair alot of phones and this site always has the best quality.

There's no damage at all, not even a slight scratch. I'm actually a little curious how it happened.
So it can really be some fault in phone that'll go under warranty have you tried resetting phone if it's some software fault / bug?

Yes.. you can see the top third of the screen for a minute or two, then it goes black/digital looking (8 bit graphics) and then eventually joins the bottom of the screen - being broken.

I decided to go the honest route.
Handed her the phone saying that I dropped it, don't have insurance, can't get it anymore because it's been too long and asked if there was anything that could be done.
She smiled, said "Finally someone is honest, let me see what I can do"
Turns out they had a broken Note3 in the back with a good digitizer and screen.
Charged me 75 bucks, signed me up for insurance (I'm months outside the 30 day window) and sent me on my way.
Sure it's not free, but for 75 bucks and I don't have to mess with it and I kept my integrity, I'm happy!

you actually can replace just the screen - there is a youtube video of a guy doing it.
However, when I did it, it was actually cheaper to buy the entire assembly...not to mention much easier.
