First off Im on a MAC
Heimdall one click scenario:
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
Claiming interface...ERROR: Claiming interface failed!
I originally was getting authentication error when attempting to flash custom ROM. i then proceeded to format everything, boot, system, sd, etc and now get stuck at SAMSUNG screen at boot. attempted to run the heimdall one click, I get into DL mode fine and am getting the above scenario, with or without flash boot loader checked.
I have no problem getting into red CWM at the moment. is there a way to connect the phone to my MAC, push a ROM to the internal SD and load the zip.
everything is appreciated, in amazing quantities. thanks much

is it possible to install a .zip in red can from external sd? that would be awesome!!
PS- thanks for the quick response ryan, hopefully i can figure this out so i don't have to go bak to the dam iPhone..

Great idea! there is, idk either though. I have seen it before.
SO here goes...
first off i am on a mac, rooted, have all appropriate drivers, etc, have used dab to root.
I am a total newb, and was experiencing issues flashing a new ROM. when trying to install the zip through cwm the phone said "signature verification failed" or something to that extent. so being the deductive thinker that I am, I formatted everything: boot, system, sd, etc. After doing this, I realized that I totally wiped out all the files on the internal sd.
so i downloaded the heimdall one click- it connects but fails regardless of whether i flash boot loader.
i can access red cwm and download mode.
now. i want to know if it is possible to push or even install a ROM through adb. I've been playing around with it all day and have gotten nowhere.
i thought maybe i could load up a rom to an external sd but obviously you can't mount an extsd in cwm.
am i screwed?
ill gladly donate through paypal if someone can help me get my baby up and running again. i do not want to be using my nokia from middle school anymore!!

I was running a hero ROM on my device, and wanted to try an Eclair ROM. I wanted to flash it but in the process I saw something like: E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command on the screen. I went ahead and performed a wipe because I read it was harmless. But then the installation was aborted because the file update.zip couldn't be found (even though it was on my phone). So I went ahead and rebooted my device. Now it always gets stuck at the little green android, then he disappears and I get a black screen. The device remains on however and I need to pull out the battery for it to turn off... COULD ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME
After doing all you did your device should boot normally. Obviously it didn't. I don't know what went wrong, but if you boot into recovery you should be able to flash a ROM.
Just make sure you have the right recovery and right ROM files.
I only have that Eclair rom on my device (which can't be flashed).
My PC won't read the SD card anymore so I can't put any rom on it...

Your not bricked... you basically just failed the update process then wiped your current installed rom with the Wipe. Now you rebooted the phone but there's no rom to load. You now see only the boot starting up and hitting the wall with no rom to load.
That makes sense.. How can I fix this issue?
thank you
Would help if you could give us some info on your phone.
Can you enter recovery or fastboot again ?
phone model, spl & radio version ?
this is why Iphones were invented.... For people who cant understand simple directions or even read for that matter.
What recovery do you have? Get another rom, go into recovery, hit the USB toggle switch and put anothe rrom on. It doesnt have to be named update.zip...
Nevermind.. Doesnt matter what I type here you'll go an do what you want anyway.
I have the htc Magic
How do I get to see my radio and spl?
Yes, I can enter recovery mode.
thank you
I can enter fastboot!
RADIO: 3.22.20.17
SPL 1.33.2005
btw it's a 32A
Where is this USB toggle switch??
Android system recovery utility
Use trackball to highlight:
click to select.
reboot system now [Home+Back]
apply sdcard:update.zip [Alt+S]
wipe data/factory reset [Alt+W]
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command
That's all I see.
Only the latest recovery has the Usb option in it.

+1 to that.
You wipe your phone, couldn't boot it and you did not know the reason for this. You wiped your ROM, there's nothing to load up when you boot it. It's so simple.

Wow, just wow. If you need spoonfeed after spoonfeed, How in the world did you root your phone in the first place? You run into problems at EVERY step. Honestly, get the iphone (It's not that badddddd of a phone! Just agreeing with what crypt said!) or don't root your phone. You fail to even look for instructions. I don't understand how your PC can't read your SD card? That probably means it's dead (Which means you need a new one) OR the thought of taking it out and plugging it into an sd adapter never occured to you. I bet you even wiped your SD card somehow.
How come you can't put the recovery on your SD card? Or the rom or anything else

And why was the ROM (update.zip) on your phone and not your sd card? I believe that you fail fail fail to look at any instructions the awesome people have posted here. If you fail to follow instructions given on these forums, how will you follow instructions given from members trying to help you? I find it useless to bother helping any further.
I don't have an sd card adapter and since my phone won't start up, my pc won't recognize my device anymore. Take it easy btw, I'm only looking for help
If help is what you're looking for, then go look around under these forums. I suggest you go and buy an adapter as well, it'd help a lot. May even be your only choice. (I believe there's another way but I'm not going to bother with that as it may be too complicated for you. I dont' think it'd work either with your recovery)
I don't mean to be an ass but when questions like this are posted, I hope you understand. It's as bad as asking how to turn your phone on vibrate. The manual is with your phone and everything, take a look or get some common sense and try the volume buttons.
The forum is your manual. You wiped your ROM, well if you think about it, of course it wont boot up all the way. It has nothing to load. Can't put stuff on your sd card? Get an adapter. It's simple.

I thought people would think right away that they would need an sd adapter to somehow get it onto their computer once they have no other choice lol.
okay that's clear, thank u for your time
For now I don't have an sd adapter, so I stuck the sd card in my brother's phone and tried to put the necessary files but now it seems I have to format the sd card.. Is this harmful or should I just go ahead?
I have the latest recovery but I get a popup message on my PC saying I should format the SD card. Will I still have the 'data' file where I need to put the recovery file under?

what ever you have on it will be erased.
You can also use fastboot to flash the recovery without having to import it into the sdcard. I would not recommend it to you do since lack the basic android knowledge. (all the command are listed in the thread i posted earlier)
If I format the SD card, where should I put the recovery.img if there is no /data anymore? (using the reboot method)
Can anyone tell me what happened? I was in the process of rooting the phone and got through toasts root instructions. Then once the phone booted again, I tried rebooting into Recovery mode and was left only with the "!" sign over the phone with no recovery options.
I had to take the battery out to get the phone to reboot. Once the phone started up I tried rebooting again into recovery mode with the same results. Once I rebooted again I got a message in the notifications saying "blank SD card SD card blank or has unsupported file system" And now it wants me to reformat.
Is there anyway to recover my SD card? I really don't want to loose my backup. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks ahead!

more info. What point in Toast Root did you get this !
Also, like above, did you download the EvoRecovery zip and extract it to your desktop? and follow all instructions?
Also, if possible, always make a backup of your sdcard to your computer before doing any of these things.
However, If you did everything correctly, and it is still doing this....
I think you still could get to your SDCard, if there is anything on your SDCard, (unless it is the EVO SDCard issue)... If you can get to your sdcard thru usb or by taking it out AFTER turning off phone. You could either make your Backup of the card, or put your Backup back on your Card and start over.

I got through all of Toasts Root before this happened. It happened when I was trying to boot back into recovery mode to flash the new ROM and Radio.
Fortunately I just found my Micro SD card reader and everything is still there. I'm now copying it to my HD. So all is well.
I guess now I'll just reformat the card so the evo can read it, load everything back on to the sd card and go into recovery mode with the phone plugged into the computer using the CMD. Hopefully everything will work out.
EDIT: WTF, now the SD card reads fine after putting it back in the phone. So weird. I guess now I'll just try recovery mode, Flash, then restore my back up.

yeah you should be fine. and yeah for now i'd just use the adb reboot recovery command then run the .bak file to get into custom recovery. once you get everything up and running you can work on getting the update.zip custom recovery method going which the link is posted below. Will save you from having to hook up to the computer to get into recovery.

Don't let it scare you too much. It's very hard to brick your phone unless you're flashing radios that you should not be. As long as your loading evo roms you'll be fine
Well I was caught my the new MIUI ROM i saw this morning and decided to switch from Bionix. I have flashed many phones and farmiliar with the process. I left my phone alone while the install occured. I watched it wipe data and cache. Now when it powers up, the samsung logo appears for 2 seconds and a quick I9000 logo flashes for like .25 of a second. The 3 button method to force it into recovery. I dont have a usable copy of windows to boot camp from my mac so ODIN is currently not an option.
I can get the phone into download mode so i know its not a lost sailor, i just need a mac solution without booting windows. I really dont want a refurb replacement from warranty either

Hey guys,
I think my phone is partially bricked. I know that sounds weird, but here's the situation:
I was able to unlock my bootloader (faced multiple write errors using fastboot but it did unlock eventually), I can't reflash using Odin (it fails Error is "Complete Write Fail"), when I tried to format some partitions using clockwork I get:
E: format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/by-name/system
Error formatting /system!
No linux newb here, so I'm guessing my internal partition is fubared..
Here's what's funny... I can flash a rom and boot into the rom usually on the first try. If I boot into the rom, it runs fine until I reboot the phone. Then it takes another *LITERALLY* 10 times of pulling the battery and rebooting the phone because the phone sticks at the Google boot logo. I can boot into recovery, fastboot, no problem.
As my phone sits right now: I can flash clockwork, bootloader unlocked. I'm having to try the NAND restore to 2.3.1 to get it to work. I rebooted the phone multiple times, no problems but then after a phone call...get a notification that the sd card was suddenly removed and now I'm back to square one..
Does anyone have a clue as to why my phone decided to unmount the internal storage and why I can't get this thing to work correctly 100%?
Thanks guys..
Btw, I usually can't mount the USB storage using clockwork when I get these errors. I have to keep rebooting the phone until I get lucky enough to format the /sdcard, then try and mount it up to my computer.
Just rebooted the phone, flashed /system, and mounted up the USB..
Can anyone explain this??

yup, this ones explainable. classic symptoms of a ns with its internal sd card dying/dead. it happens way too often unfortunately. luckily its a fairly easy and inexpensive repair, if youre not under warranty.
Any direction on how to fix it while not under warranty?
Or take it to tmobile?

check out any local mobile device repair shops. you could probably do it yourself if you dont fear taking the phone apart, it should be to difficult of a repair. its just a matter of buying a replacement(ebay?), taking the phone apart, and replacing the sd.

i seen something a few weeks ago online on how to replace this...it was a video..i just cant remember where i seen it!

You can check whether there are blocks flagged as bad by FTL (Flash Translation Layer) in recovery. Check recovery.log file (it can be, the bad blocks will show up after formats).
. The phone was running great for weeks, it had the USB fast charge hack, and the setup in my sig, when suddenly I woke up to a bootloop after going to bed with a perfectly good phone. Stupidly, I had no backup in recovery to flash. Trying to put an update.zip onto the internal memory is when I discovered that USB mount in recovery doesn't work. In CWM or TWRP I get nothing if I try. I also couldn't mount anything from /sdcard, /data, or /system, I would get "Error mounting /system!" if I tried. It also won't flash a zip from sideload in CWM, although it seems to push it over just fine as it takes a while and reads the file size of the zip. It seems as if anything I try to do to /system, /sdcard, or /data just won't take.
. I can get it to listen to fastboot commands, it will even list as one in Wug's toolkit, but it is not recognized as an ADB device in Wug's. Fastboot seems to work by itself, and in Wug's. In both cases, it seems to flash the radio, bootloader, and recovery just fine. When I (or the script in Wug's) gets to flashing the /system, /sdcard, and /data portion however, then it returns an error after seemingly writing everything. I've tried flashing with manual command line, Wug's Toolkit, and a batch file from someone here on XDA, none of it works.
ODIN hangs indefinitely within a few seconds of trying to flash. I can only get the COM:3 box in ODIN to go yellow, never green like I remember when I unlocked the bootloader. How can I get ODIN working? I feel like if I can get it going I should be able to fix this.
I'm at my wits end here. At this point I've tried fastboot, ODIN, and Wugs Toolkit. Nothing works I can flash recoveries. I have download mode. I have fastboot working. What can I do to get this damn thing working? Can this be a simple USB driver issue after all the drivers I've tried?
Anyone who helps me fix this will get thanked by me every time I see them for quite awhile, I've put too many hours into this already! Yes, I've moved on to a GS4, but I LOVED this phone and would like to get it going again. I'll still use it as a GrooveIP phone at home, or give it to my kid. Or even to have it as a backup would be great. Thanks for all the help guys!

Have you tried going trough the same steps?
Oh yes, several times, with a GB, ICS, and the latest JB AOSP ROM, for the correct phone (sph-d720). I always use crespo4g images. It never works. It acts as if it writes, but has an error that says "can not automatically format" when it tries to flash the zip. When I reboot the phone there is no change. I can flash recoveries just fine.
