Hello,
Earlier today my friend stole my phone (well I say friend, he's an idiot), and when running away with it, it flew out his pocket hit a wall and then hit the ground.
It's not in the best of shape... The touch keys now stand out about 1-2mm from the rest of the phone, the back cover doesnt fit on right, and the sdcard falls out with no assistance needed.
I'm under o2 and got the phone in may, anyone know if their warranty or HTC covers this? I'm guessing not but what do you think? I still have like 18 months left of the contract so would like to have a phone in proper condition if possible...
Er.... No. Insurance is your only hope. Or getting your friend to buy you a new one

Thought that was the case just checking. Found a site online that can supposedly do a casing replacement for £50 so I'll look into that (and murder + charge my friend).

By the way, this is a Desire S, which doesn't have keys and has no back plate?

Dude....get the full body replaced by HTC and they will charge u for it....and may take around a month to get the full body as they order it from Taiwan..if u luck they may have it in stock....just got a full body replacement as the paint was fading...free of cost....O2 will take more time to fix it for u....so the best way is to get it done via HTC...call them up and order for a full body or visit ur nearest HTC shop.....hope ur phone is fully working....

Murdering of friend of yours will be best way to fix your problem
I got in touch with HTC, and whilst they were very helpful, they apparently can't tell me how much it would cost to repair until I send it to them. Then if I don't like their quote I have to pay £22 anyway for them to send it back, and then it would achieve nothing. Does anyone know if the following site is trustworthy?
http://htcphonerepairs.co.uk/HTC-Desire-S/Housing-Replacement-Desire-S.html
Do you have any HTC service centre in ur area...if so they can check and let u know the total cost to repair....if not get it done via O2....

I'm probably gonna go third party as it's easier and probably cheaper. Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated!

I tried searching all over googleverse and youtube but not luck on a guide on how to open a G2 to replace a LCD. so this is my last resort at looking for an answer. does anyone have a guide or can tell me that its simple to disassemble the device?
Sadly, I wouldn't think there would be a simple fix to a screen like this, simply because of the hinge, although I could be wrong. What happened to the phone, these things have only been out for like a month.
Maybe OP was doing some durabilitiy test... or he was like his avy and fell off the skateboard crushing it =[
lol no, I was going to buy one off some guy on ebay to fix for my GF but so far no dice on the repair guide.
repair guide? LMAO
i think you're going to have to make your own repair guide

Maybe pm the guy that tore his apart on here. He may have some tips.

What do you think about the screen bezel? I'd love to get it off and have it and the batt cover anodized.
Sadly karma has stricken me for posting in this thread I assume. I had a Zagg Invisibleshield installed, and the "solution" got underneath my screen and has messed it up.
Anyone ever find a replacement for this?
Also I was thinking of calling HTC but figured they wouldnt fix it.

BE SUPER CAREFUL WITH THE MICROSD RIBBON CONNECTOR. 2 pins on mine got messed up and now the vibration doesn't work...so be aware/be careful!
http://cgi.ebay.com/TMOBILE-G2-HTC-...Cell_Phones&hash=item35aeb64eae#ht_500wt_1156
Here's one you can use as spare parts/replacement screen. If you do get this, I might want to buy the main-board off you to repair the stupid microSD connector...ugh, still can't believe I broke 2 pins on it!
Thanks!

Me too. I want the HTC logo on the front dammit! Let me know if you find what we're looking for. I already bought the HTC battery cover without the "G2" logo.
And they were useful for once..
My backcover is loose and the search button causes the phone to kind of push the phone into the cover..
They are sending a new one free of charge.

Basically they're saying that unlocking he bootloader does not void warranty when it comes to very obvious hardware defects.
But if your device fails to turn on one day, even if it was nothing caused by unlocking, I doubt they'd provide warranty service if the device is unlocked with that issue.
I also spoked to HTC and they said my warranty is voided. I also wanted to tell them about the defective casing i had since june (when i bought the phone) and they told me that I don't have warranty anymore because i Unlocked the bootloader using official method. So if u unlock it, u won't have warranty..anymore..NEVER!

It's been my experience that HTC's support is excellent, especially for a phone company. Many technology companies have only machine replies, while HTC has actual, knowledgeable humans. So it seems, anyway.
Example, I recently contacted them about getting a new Desire battery, and they told me that while they couldn't replace it (out of warranty), and my phone provider didn't carry the batteries anymore, I could find a replacement at [list of Canadian online stores I'd never heard of but seem incredibly well-stocked with reasonably-priced phone stuff]. Usually the company line is, "no, we can't do that", period... no helpful suggestions. And I'm not kidding you, this email was about 4 paragraphs long! I was so enthusiastic about the quality of their service I said I was planning to post it on Reddit or something and the guy REPLIED AGAIN to "thank me for my kind words" and then give me a number I could call as another suggestion!
I very nearly went for a SGS2, and then a Droid 3 (Canadian equivalent), but I'm extra happy now I settled on the HTC.

Take a blow dryer heat up the front then take a guitar pick or other plastic edge and pry around all the way around the gap between screen and housing and u will be able to seperate it from the glue hen it lifts right up while the phone is still assembled. Its easy I had to do it before when I had a sensation to clean the dust.

You will need to dissassemble it. There are a lot of YouTube guides on how to do it. It voids warrenty abviously, but I assume you already did by rooting .

Yeh, I was not even considering it I'm about to hand this phone over to my son and I know he's going to see this and complain about it. and the phone is a year and a half so the warranty is gone anyway.
EDIT: Was looking at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ImE5hUXK8s just now and the guy was not all wrong by suggesting what he did
I think he have to live with the dust this is far to much, and maybe the phone will never work again when i have made this. The amount of dust is just very tiny and can just be seen when the sun is on the display. Lucky me, i was discovering other guys who had very very much dust behind the glass. Poor quality from hTC i think.

Even better we have consumer rights which trump warranties.
It's a £450 phone, I'd not expect any dust under it for more than 2 years.
Take it up with the retailer (it's their legal responsibility, not the manufacturer's).
Don't be fobbed off by them saying it's cosmetic, that is covered by our consumer rights.
Contact HTC and they will give you a list of stores where you can let it fixed free of charge.
I did it and it took 1 day and it's now also all sealed up.

IMO you should be better off by just sending it to HTC. Dealing with retailers is 9 out of ten times a pain in the ass.
Most simply replace the whole phone anyway, (some even being refurbished ones) and Bing, sooner or later you get dust again.

Have sent HTC a mail, let's see what they say....
ANSWER:
Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your HTC Sensation.
I understand that you are currently experiencing problems with dust under the screen.
To solve the problem, I suggest that you bring your phone to the shop where you bought it and ask them to send it in for service.
Before doing that, it's important that you make a backup of what you have saved on phone memory to your PC. You do this by installing HTC Sync on your PC and then connect your phone.
Only send in the phone itself without battery, battery cover, SIM and SD cards or other accessories.
Attach description of the defect, return address and proof of purchase.
he he he ... So! Now the retailer have gotten a mail...

I've had the same issue and i've sent an email to HTC.
They told me where to bring the device, they should repair it for free
My Sensation have 6 months of life(1,5 years of warranty left), it is rooted and unlocked with revolutionary with a custom ROM, i plan to flash the stock RUU and send it back to them.
I think this is the best option to FIX the dust under the screen, why disassemble the phone when HTC already admitted it is a known issue?
EDIT: btw this is a very bad issue.. this is very bad for a 600 € thing.

Yes its very bad to have dust under the screen after 1.5 year as mine is. I fully agree. Don't you going to restore the whole phone like cid and stuff? I'm realy nervous about s-on the phone but this problem is not inside the phone, maybe they aren't plugging it in...

Hey anyone is this plssible if yes then this will help me
Once you get the device clean here is a tip that had worked for me. If you put a screen saver on your device THEN use a case that wraps around the edges tightly this helps a lot. You can get these kinds of cases at amazon really cheap. Then the edges are tightly sealed and it really does help keep the dust from getting under the screen! I've had mine almost a year now with out any dust ( thank God) just clean around the case when it gets dirty. It's really worked well for me! Just a tip to help keep it from happening again. Make sure the type of cases you get Are the ones that snap together from front to back. This gives a nice seal around there edges. Hope this helps.

That's something you will have to do at your own risk. I've personally never done that. It could work if done very very very carefully. That particular user reported it worked well for him.these kinds of things we have to make our own decisions about. I'd be very careful when using the heat as not to damage any thing . If you do decide to do this procedure please post how it went . I do wish you the best . For what its worth , if it was me, I'd probably give it try myself. Just use caution.

So, my ATT One X is acting funny. The LEDs behind the capacitive keys only work for the back button. This is not a ROM/firmware issue, as I use my own ROMs and think I have a fairly good idea of what would cause that to happen if it were. Anyway, I got it kind of wet (was in my wader pocket fly fishing and it got half submerged for half a second), so that may be/likely is it.
So, my questions are: (1) has anyone else had this happen without dunking it in water for a half a second (guessing no), and (2) more importantly, what has been people's experience with the ATT's insurance? Will they give me a hard time if I tell them it was the water dunk, or will they still check whether it's rooted/unlocked, etc? I can get it back to it's factory state, but don't want to bother. Any input is greatly appreciated, as I am using my International One X and it is really laggy in comparison, even with custom ROMs. Thanks!
Steve
If you have insurance they will replace it no matter what you did to it, if you try to get it replaced/repaired under warranty it is likely that they will want to make sure that it is not due to water damage. But you may get lucky. Good luck

My home button goes in and out, without being dropped or dunked in water. I think it's a build defect. When mine goes out, squeezing that part of the phone causes it to flicker and come back on, so I think the solder is just shot.
Yes at&t will.replace it...by the way..since i had my original one x replace a week ago..be sure to check the lower part of the phone where the capacitive buttons are..the first and second one that they gave me made a squeaking sound..if you press it..but the 3rd one that they handed me feels solid..different build quality i guess

STORY TIME !
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the situation, today I went golfing and put my Gatorade and my one s in the same pouch in the golf bag. Long story short my One s was thirsty and got some Gatorade spilled on it. Everything works except the button back lights and the microphone. Im leaving my phone in a ziplock baggy over-night with uncooked rice. (It worked a lot with my iPod!) And my phone was rooted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUESTION?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.) If the Htc One s mic and button lights never come on, should I report it lost for warranty purposes and get a new one? Because once you root your phone's warranty is void.
2.) If the Htc One s mic and button lights never come on, should I still turn it in to t-mobile, even though if i return it to stock it ill say "RELOCKED"? And they would know.
3.) Would they know you rooted it if you report it stolen? Because all they know is I requested a unlock code, but they don't know if you used it? (Or do they)
4.) Or should I just report it lost but choose to go with the Samsung galaxy nexus or save my money for an Samsung s3?
