I want to tell you guys so bad but I have to wait 3 days. I don't want to **** up anything by a mass exodus of people calling T-Mobile and requesting the same thing. Let me guess...Because the G2X is being discontinued they are giving you a Sensation for a warranty exchange right? If that's it, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. The Sensation is the only comparable phone TMO has, it makes sense to me. If so, you are sooooo stoked!

Dude... You know this is the sensation forum right? I'd they exchanged it, congratulations. Unfortunately the sense ui on the sensation will leave you wondering if the g2x is actually the king here. After root and fully unlocked bootloader? We all know what happens then...

If you bothered reading any prior posts then you would realize that I already own a Sensation and a G2X so I have experience with both of them as I have been switching back and forth between the two for the past 3 days.

OK, I just thought to myself that I'm not going to **** up my deal T-Mobile gave me due to my account having extenuating circumstances. Here goes....
On June 11th I called T-Mobile and told them I was on my 4th G2X and was having problems with it since I wanted to exchange it for a Sensation. The rep I talked to in customer retention told me there was no comparable devices to the G2X at the time but told me about a phone named the Sensation coming out on the 15th and that it would be a comparable exchange. He continued to notate my account and told me to call back after the 15th for the exchange. In between that time I went out and bought one with the intentions of seeing which phone I liked better before I exchanged my G2X. I decided I like the Sensation better so I gave it to my wife. Turns out she likes the Sensation better as well so when I called T-Mobile yesterday the person I talked to said there was no possible way for her to do the exchange but she did in fact see the notations on my account. She told me she would send an email to the guy who notated my account with "Exchange G2X for Sensation" and have him call me today. He never called so I just called T-Mobile and spoke with someone else. After explaining them the entire story he put me on hold for 10 minutes so he could speak with his supervisor. He came back and said something I wasn't expecting. He told me when I called on the 11th I was still within my buyers remorse period but the original representative I talked to failed to do the return and told me to wait until the 15th . I am now outside of my buyers remorse period so T-Mobile is eating the cost and sending me the Sensation. I asked the representative if I should return the G2X with all of it's accessories in it's original box and at this point he said the unthinkable. Nope, don't bother sending it back. There's really nothing we can do with it since the manufacturer wont take it back since it's past the 30 day period. So now I have 2 Sensations and one G2X. I am still trying to comprehend just how awesome T-Mobiles customer service is.

I had a completely opposite experience with their customer service today. I talked to 5 different people (around 2 hours total time spent with holding and all) about getting the SENSATION50 discount since I was unable to online and they weren't able to do anything for me at all. I've been a loyal customer for almost 6 years and it really puzzled me how they didn't offer me any sort of discount for all my troubles. I'm glad you got some better reps to help you out, though.

So you paid 250 for a G2X, 250 for a sensation, then got a free sensation? So $500 and 2 upgrades for 3 phones. Not bad man, congratulations on the super deal. I had a similar awesomeness regarding this phone. I won't go into too much detail, but I bought a G2X for 250, there was a return/exchange /error, so T-Mobile refunded my money etc., gave me a new G2X, and gave me back my upgrade, then I went and bought a Sensation for 150 on contract. So I paid 150 and one upgrade for two phones.

So not only is tmobile not selling the G2X anymore, now they are not even accepting the units back for returns. Glad I sent mine back

I paid retail price for the G2X and paid through an upgrade on my wife's account for one of the Sensations. On her upgrade, T-Mobile gave me the full discount with 10 months to go which is another plus for there customer service. My account is still out of contract. You made off pretty good too.

It's not that there not excepting returns for the G2X. It's just that they can't send mine back to LG since it's outside of 30 days.

[Q] Am I under warranty for this (o2 uk)

Earlier today my friend stole my phone (well I say friend, he's an idiot), and when running away with it, it flew out his pocket hit a wall and then hit the ground.
It's not in the best of shape... The touch keys now stand out about 1-2mm from the rest of the phone, the back cover doesnt fit on right, and the sdcard falls out with no assistance needed.
I'm under o2 and got the phone in may, anyone know if their warranty or HTC covers this? I'm guessing not but what do you think? I still have like 18 months left of the contract so would like to have a phone in proper condition if possible...

Thought that was the case just checking. Found a site online that can supposedly do a casing replacement for £50 so I'll look into that (and murder + charge my friend).

Dude....get the full body replaced by HTC and they will charge u for it....and may take around a month to get the full body as they order it from Taiwan..if u luck they may have it in stock....just got a full body replacement as the paint was fading...free of cost....O2 will take more time to fix it for u....so the best way is to get it done via HTC...call them up and order for a full body or visit ur nearest HTC shop.....hope ur phone is fully working....

Murdering of friend of yours will be best way to fix your problem

I got in touch with HTC, and whilst they were very helpful, they apparently can't tell me how much it would cost to repair until I send it to them. Then if I don't like their quote I have to pay £22 anyway for them to send it back, and then it would achieve nothing. Does anyone know if the following site is trustworthy?

Dust under screen cheap solution

Info for all those in UK with dust under their screen...
I went into a shop called fonesolutions today, website's here: http://www.fonesolutions.co.uk/
They offered to clear out all the dust for £15! I think im gona do it just before i sell the phone to add some value.

Why? HTC has 2 years warranty and will do it for free till the next MAY at least. If you request it NOW, it's unlikely they'll ask for a proof of purchase (they didn't ask me)

So your warranty isn't void then?
I wish there was a good equivalent in my area of the US.

Why would my warranty be void? It's within 2 years of warranty time.

I know that but if you're s-off (most people on here are) your warranty is void and u can't send it to HTC. I know its possible to s-on and get back to stock but that's tricky and many don't want to go through all that

I've sent mine in with s-off but with stock ROM and firmware (run RUU and flashed all the subsequent updates). No problem. If they ask, just ask them what is s-off

oh really! i might try that but not sure if its worth the risk.. cos they still have every right to just say that the devices warranty is void, then refuse to fix it and charge you the £30.00, or whatever it is, to send it back to you.

THEY would have to prove that YOU s-offed it and it didn't come s-off out of the box. Don't worry.

And for the record, many Sensations did ship from the factory with S-off. So they have no possible way to prove you did it yourself.
Plus it's probably more expensive for them to argue about your software changes when you send in a hardware problem than it is to just fix the hardware problem. Especially since it's a known hardware problem that HTC fully admits to.
That said, there are numerous stories of people who've sent fully rooted phones to HTC with custom ROMs installed to have hardware problems fixed and the phone came back repaired just fine.
Does anyone know how long it takes to get your phone back from the time you send it to them?

In the Netherlands HTC has repair partners all over the country. I went in one of the shops and 1 hour later they called that my new screen was installed. Did not ask anything or check my phone.

I would assume that sending in a phone for this problem wouldn't matter if you're rooted since software can't get dust under your screen.

Rooting means you can mess with your clock speeds, messing with your clock speeds means you could have overheated it, overheating means distortion, distortion means gaps, gaps mean dust... Shall I continue?
Why give them ANY chance to be idiots and to refuse repair?

Esecailly since it's so incredibly easy to flash a stock ROM before sending it in which would mean they'd never notice something wasn't stock.
Yeahthe aftermarket recovery might still be there and it might be S-Off but I doubt the guy sitting at his desk fixing 25 phones a day is goign to notice those things when he's replacing a screen gasket to seal out dust. Now if he booted it and it said CYANOGENMOD and lacked Sense, it might stand out to him...
Also, did anyone know the answer to my last question? About how long it takes to get a phone back from HTC with the screen dust issue repaired? minus the shipping to get there (which you can change) for me its been about 3 days from them receiving it to them having it in repair to them getting ready to ship, dont know though if the screen is repaired but i did mention it as one of many things faulty with the device

This problem also started to develop on my phone. I wish we have repairs stores around the area I live (I also live in the US).
One question, do I have to pay for the shipping fee to ship the phone to them?

yes you do
also and this very important, ship it in a box specifically made to ship small electronic items (was going to shiping it in something else) as they can void your warranty for breakage when shipping, thankfully i was told that before shipping the actual device so there was not much a problem...

[Q] g2x replacement?

Hello, all.
I've recently broken my g2x beyond repair--physically that is. I've been using my girlfriend's g2x and before I contact t-mobile for a replacement (I have premium handset protection plan) I wondered if anyone had recently tried to replace their phone using the same method?
Two questions follow:
Was your phone replaced with another g2x, or a phone similar to it?
Was there an option to pay the difference for a phone upgrade?

If you go through Assurion, you need to call them and ask for a different model. We filed a claim online and got another G2x.
If you're going through T-Mobile, you have to get three replacements in six months before they'll offer a different model

I can confirm this mine broke a few months ago and online all they offered was g2x so I called and asked and they offered me a HTC oneS came brand new in box with new micro sim and I am loving it very stable.

Through assurion insurance had to pay the 130$ premium but well worth it to get away from the g2x.

Actually it wasn't...the thread has been talking about the insurance replacement not about the T-Mobile warranty exchange program...they are two completely different things.

I called asurion and filed a claim today.
They said they could only send out a different phone if the same model phone is not available; I didn't want to push the issue since I'd be getting a new phone anyway.
the deductible was $130

Didn't want to create a new thread so I'll post here. My G2X recently started sensing the headphones even when non are plugged in which doesn't allow me to call without using the speaker. I went to a T-Mobile store and the representative there, after checking if my phone has been rooted off-course, said that for $5 I will get a replacement in 2 days which is a "much better" phone. What I got in the mail is a G2, which is a) 6 months older b) has a smaller screen c) has a single core processor d) has a slower wireless modem - I can go on and on, but the point is it's not an equivalent phone. This was the first problem I had with my G2X in 1 year and 9 months of owning it, so by all means replace it with another one or something that is better. I am going back to t-mob today, but I am not holding my breath. I'll keep people posted on the results of my expedition. Any insight into this matter is greatly appreciated.

maybe treat it as an honest mistake on their part at first. I'd be surprised if they stuck with the verdict that you deserve a G2. You didn't tell us what replacement plan you had or what warranty you were using to get it fixed. Also, usually the headphone issue can be fixed with compressed air or a straw brush or q-tip dipped in alcohol to clean off the contacts, which can register a headset when nothing is in there.
tell them you want your G2X back if nothing else. It's probably worth more with the headset issue than the G2 new.

Didn't get a chance to stop by yesterday, so we'll see what they say today. I am an electrical engineer so I can easily fix this issue, I just think if I pay $7.99(premium handset protection) I should be able to use it - especially since my wife and I have paid it for 2 phones for almost 2 years. I came straight to the store and the T- Mobile representative filed the claim for me - so since it was only $5 shipping I assume the replacement is direct from T-Mobile.

Well, as expected, the T-Mobile rap agreed that the G2 is inferior, called customer service to see what they can do and and they said - "too bad-so sad." After that, he said that the only thing he can recommend is calling customer loyalty(I'll try it but I am not holding my breath). So the bottom line is, T-Mobile stole $400 of my money over 2 years for 2 phones since the protection plan did absolutely nothing for me even when my device broke. I am sending the G2 back and that's that. TMobile offers the cheapest service, especially if I have 3 lines with unlimited data and a 10% discount I can get through work, so I really doubt I'll switch to something else.

Well, finally after 2 visits to the T-mobile store and contacting customer loyalty department twice - the first time I was promised I will get a replacement G2X - and the order was never filed - I got a nice shiny refurbished LG L9. It's not the greatest phone, but it sure as heck beats the G2 and is definitely better then the G2X. Not sure why this was so hard to do in the first place?

Hey One S community. I hope this will be my new home. I currently have a Samsung galaxy vibrant so the One S would be a huge update (original snapdragon so the s4). Anyways, I bought a like new condition HTC one S which will not boot. Apparently the guy was attempting to unlock the boot loader and ended up wiping the phone. The phone will power up to the HTC screen so fast boot should be accessible. I'm hoping to reflash it with the T-Mobile RUU. I played 170$ for it. What are my odds of this phone being bricked forever?

Can you get into bootloader? Hold Vol- when turning it on if you didn't know.

Waiting to see if I can. Is there any known situations where you wouldn't be able to? (assuming hardware is perfect). The guy claims that he can get into the bootloader and I can't see any situations where I couldn't fix it. If there is something he didn't tell me I should be fine as eBay buyer protection says that all his comments on the sale must be "in good faith" and not sneaky.
this was his item description: The phone is soft bricked, it will only boot to the htc logo. The bootloader needs to be re-locked in order to get it working. The phone is in excellent condition with no signs of wear, no charger included.

Sure wish I had seen your ad then . There seems to be a real bubble on the pricing of these phones. Check out ebay, for anything in new condition it is 300+ and anything with heavy use or moderate scratching is in the 230-250 range. I thought 170$ for a phone that seems a likely fix and is in mint condition is pretty good. I've always admired the One S as a phone anyways. Can you load anything to memory from computer? If so you need to relock bootloader and flash ruu. There are guides here that explain what to do. On my phone and there is more to type than my pointer finger had the energy for on this phone

this was his item description: The phone is soft bricked, it will only boot to the htc logo. The bootloader needs to be re-locked in order to get it working. The phone is in excellent condition with no signs of wear, no charger included.
Sure wish I had seen your ad then . There seems to be a real bubble on the pricing of these phones. Check out ebay, for anything in new condition it is 300+ and anything with heavy use or moderate scratching is in the 230-250 range. I thought 170$ for a phone that seems a likely fix and is in mint condition is pretty good. I've always admired the One S as a phone anyways. yeah don't worry, I've read up quite a bit and I know what my options are. I'm already prepped for the arrival of the phone and have installed the htc drivers and downloaded the RUU. I also know how to lock the bootloader. My real question right now is if you know of any scenarios where while being able to go into the bootloader the phone was unsalvagable. I'll return with results once it arrives

Has long its only a software fault and can get to bootloader then it should be fine.

Yeah what he/she said ( don't take offense as I don't know your sex lol) as long as the phone and screen power on its not a hard brick and shouldn't have any issues

got mine brand new for $150, plus $75 gift card thrown in for a local grocery store.

On contract? I bought the phone unlocked. If you got it new unlocked for that price, tell me where cause I'll take 3. On eBay they seem to be going for 300ish new. Moreover thanks for the help guys. Seems like a great community I'll be back with results!

Time to double post for a statu update so I go the phone and got it running within and hour. checked the IMEI with t mobile and everything. Mint condition. What's the most vanilla jellybean rom I can go to? thanks.

I'd say vanilla CM10 no paranoidandroid or anything. I tend to be a purist. if theres any other aosp roms that'd be good too. also how's the state of android 4.2? can you direct me to the right threads?

There is an unofficial for 4.2 but I'd go with the mist recent nightly here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1799139

Thanks. I ended up going with cm10 because while I loved 4.2 on my vibrant, camera is important to me. great phone so far. The amoled screen is a little of putting with the colorful edges on the text.

it was a deal during christmas. locked to virgin mobile in canada. i'm with another carrier. bought it for $0 on contract and it was $150 fee to break contract. and unlocked for $1.50 on ebay. sold out everywhere now.
