[Q] Camera Issue on Rooted Evo 4G - General Questions and Answers

Whenever I try to use the camera on my rooted Evo 4G I just get a black screen and have to press the home key to get out of it. My ex-boyfriend put a new ROM on the phone about a month ago then put a kernel on it a couple days later because the buttons were freaking out (randomly clicking, freezing up, etc). The rest of the ROM is working great, just can't get the camera to load. I've tried rebooting the phone and leaving the battery out for over 20 minutes (I've read that that fixed the issue for some people) but don't know what else to do. I'd really like to avoid doing a factory reset so I don't lose everything (if there's a way to avoid this I'd love to know). With 'ex' being the very, very operative word in ex-boyfriend, I would really appreciate some help with this as I can't have him fix it like I normally would. Thanks so much!

HELP!!! So many issues!!!

My HTC Touch Pro from Sprint has always had problems. 3 times in a row the keyboard has stopped working and I've gotten it replaced. It's always been very laggy and since it's Sprint I haven't flashed any new roms or anything, just some reg edits an stuff. This most recent time though not only did the keyboard stop working but so did the audio stop working completely. I couldn't hear calls or music or anything, and when the guy tried to "fix" it, it stopped running in portrait as well. He ordered me a replacement a few days ago and it's supposed to come on Monday or Tuesday, he's gonna call me to go get it I have no clue how thats gonna work.. But the problem has gotten even worse. At first whenever I plugged in the earbuds that came with it, the audio would somehow magically return. Not through the buds mind you, they would just hang, through the phones actual speakers. I could make calls and everything again, but suddenly it started lagging like crazy and now it won't even get past the load-up "touch pro" screen. It just freezes there, I can't really go without a phone for 2 or 3 days and I need it on to receive their call. Is there anything I can do to get it running in some working manner?? And what can I do to stop these hardware issues from happening again??
EDIT: Another question, no reason for a new post. Is it possible to store my texts on my computer so I can delete em from my phone? I could never find the files!
It sounds like something is corrupted on your phone. Have you tried a hard reset? That is what returns the phone to "factory fresh". It will wipe out all of your data and any settings you may have changed which is not fun. However, it may solve more problems that it creates.
To Hard reset, turn the power off. Press and hold the volume down and Center button. Use the stylus to soft reset. Keep holding the volume down and center buttons. The screen will then give you instructions. Release and follow instructions.
Another option is to try a custom ROM. If you go this route, read the instructions carefully. Most importantly, USE A CDMA ROM!! Do not use the GSM ROM or much unhappiness will insue.
The downside to a Custom ROM would be that if you determine you need to replace your device under warranty, you have to undo everything. That takes a while and requires some reading.
Good Luck,
Doug M.
Thanks dwmackay! Appreciate the advice and I'll definitely keep all of that in mind when I get the replacement. I've always been curious about flashing ROMs and MightyRom looks very promising, is it safe to do? I'm sure atleast the keyboard will stop working again if not even more than that, would I be able to restore to stock and relock it easily? Appreciate all the advice!

Camera Flash causing phone to lock up

Hi I was just wondering if anyone has had problems with using the camera on the phone with the flash enabled. I had this problem with ed2 in the past. Today I decided to use the camera for the first time in awhile with the flash and as soon as I took the picture the phone just went to a black screen resulting in me having to pull the battery. I'm running ee4 debloated with the peanut butter jelly kernel. The phone takes pictures without the flash perfectly fine. However, once I enable the flash and take the picture, the phone focuses, the flash turns on, and as soon as the phone takes the picture the screen turns black and the phone locks up. Hopefully someone comes up with a reply. Maybe it's hardware related? I don't remember if stock ee4 had this issue or not. The only roms I've ran so far have been the debloated roms by imnuts.
Happening to me too.
I fixed the issue. Im not sure why recovery was causing the issue but it was. Anyway what you're going to have to do is a factory restore on your current rom. I know that sucks but that's the only fix I could find.
Beamed from my SCH-I510
happens to me too =(. Happened to me the first day i got my charge and Hoping that rooting and changing roms will fix it, but it didn't. I'm not sure how often this will happen because im scared to try it. Last time I took a pic with flash, the screen blacked out so i had to do a battery pull...Rebooted and BAM...i get the "process.com.google.process.gapp" error message. (Happened to me running GummyCharged, now running Altered Beast) So as soon as that happened, I knew that I had to factory reset the ROM. I really dont want to factory reset again because I dont want to go through the process of everything again. Lol.. So if anyone has any advice, fixes...please, share! =).
I was also reading on other forums that maybe the SD card write speed has something to do with it? something with the SD's class. (Class 2...class 4.. etc??)
Thanks!

[Q] Xoom freezes and locks up at any moment.

I am not a noob when it comes to the Xoom. I haven't had a lot of time with it. I purchased it about 90 days ago from woot.com. It was a refurb. I had no problem rooting it and putting Tiamat 2.2 on it. After about a month of using Tiamat my xoom started freezing up. The only button that would work was the lock and unlock button. I thought maybe it was the ROM so I installed the stock ROM back on. I was able to do all of the over the air updates to ICS 4.0.3 just fine. Now the freezing continues. I have sent the tablet back to Motorola 2 times now and problem still persists. If I am playing a game, watching a you tube video, or clicking settings. The screen still has all the animations but, the touch is unresponsive for a good minute or two. I can press the lock screen and it locks. I can press to unlock it and the touch is unresponsive. until I lock/unlock three or four times. To make short question long, I am just curious if people have had the same problem. Pretty much Motorola can't or won't fix it. I was hoping somebody out there had or is having a similar problem. I have done all the reboots in the book and the problem is still there. I haven't been able to find any answers. If you need more info let me know. Are they treating me like this because I bought a refurb? Do they really not care that I have a $400.00 paper weight? Thanks for your time.
Quick Question, you stated you were using Tiamat 2.2. Do you mean the Kernal, or android version
The more detail about these we get the more we can help.
If you rooted and installed a ICS build, that may be the issue in of itself.
With both my Dinc and Xoom I have had issues with ICS doing this, mainly on things that require graphics/rendering. Normally plain text webpages are fine, but if they get graphic heavy or use a uncommon language, then it seems to make ICS act up.
As far as I know there is no actual fix as of yet.

Help with rebooting tmo us

Hello,
I am tyring to figure out if there is a better trouble shooting method that I can try or not.
I have a friend that does not want to really root her phone or not but trying to help.
Had a one s that was having problems randomly loosing signal and only coming back when screen is lit up but that was it.
Had the phone replaced for that and not being on current software.
The new phone she got no longer has signal issues but will randomly reboot on its own when not being used.
Seems to be mainly when away from home. At home been on and off wifi but only every rebooted once that way compared to over 5 times away from home and the phone is only a week old.
When we got the replacement we used carbon to back up the apps that were installed on the phone and restore those on the new phone as that was the only backup app that would do data without root.
Since it happened twice within the last two hours going to try and master reset it and not restore with that program and just manually install the apps she wants like swype and only the stuff really needed and leave off games and stuff.
But is there any other methods or things I can try to figure out what may be causing this?
Or anyone know any thing that commonly causes this phone to reboot?

Ya if its still stock then use factory reset in the bootloader and if it still does it then it might be hardware issue.

The blue light of death... No screen no safemode no boot

I've had my Samsung up and running for about a week now , did the two most recent updates . Today is the first time I experienced some serious problems . It started with a fingerprint scanner not working delivering an error message that read "fingerprint scanner has stopped working restart phone if this repeats" so after my second time of dealing with this there I restarted the phone . P at this point in time is when the blue light was lit up and has stayed lit up since I restarted it, this has been about an hour. I've tried every option on the recovery menu except factory restore. When I turn the phone on safe mode or not it goes straight to a black screen with the blue light continuously lit up . When I turn the phone off the light never turns off . I've tried hooking it up to the charger and doing all of the same steps above and still no luck. I have not installed any unknown apps other than ones on the play store and haven't had time to even explore rooting or ROMS yet. Seems to me like a brick by the stock software don't know if anybody else's experiences but I don't know what to do . Maybe someone can shed some light before I consider doing a factory restore , if that will even work.. I think this thing is bunked.
Edit~ I also tried pressing both volume buttons the power button and the home button all at once and it took me to a blue screen with the android logo and Galaxy written on the bottom . Nothing for a few seconds then it's says erasing and reboots....still a black screen and a solid blue light.

What firmware are you on? If you've taken the most recent updates, don't worry about rooting. Probably won't happen at least for a while. If you have a warranty, I would use it. If you get a new phone, don't take any updates if you might want to root.
If you want to keep this phone you should try the factory reset or the emergency recovery in SamsungSwitch.

I'm not sure which firmware was on it, I did not pay attention before I took the update. I do know I have taken 2 updates in the last week since I received the phone.
I took the phone to a Verizon store and of course, seemed like going backwards. The rep tried all the same things I had tried and ended up calling a customer service rep to help him figure out what to do. Because the phone was purchased online my business' HR lady had to order another one online( which they replaced for free). Not sure what the problem ended up being but I know personally the most recent update BRICKED the phone.
New phone is up and running and thank you about the advice to not update if I prefer root. I love the stock ROM so I was really only going to root to de-bloat alot of the stock apps that are repetitive (i.e. messaging, messages, and Hangouts) .
So as of now no known fix to this blue light of death, except get a new one.

Check out your firmware in settings, about phone. If your build ends in OC3 or OE2, it can be rooted.
Glad you were able to get a new phone.
OC3!!???

Good for you! Pingpong is so easy you can be rooted in less than a minute.
