I've had my Samsung up and running for about a week now , did the two most recent updates . Today is the first time I experienced some serious problems . It started with a fingerprint scanner not working delivering an error message that read "fingerprint scanner has stopped working restart phone if this repeats" so after my second time of dealing with this there I restarted the phone . P at this point in time is when the blue light was lit up and has stayed lit up since I restarted it, this has been about an hour. I've tried every option on the recovery menu except factory restore. When I turn the phone on safe mode or not it goes straight to a black screen with the blue light continuously lit up . When I turn the phone off the light never turns off . I've tried hooking it up to the charger and doing all of the same steps above and still no luck. I have not installed any unknown apps other than ones on the play store and haven't had time to even explore rooting or ROMS yet. Seems to me like a brick by the stock software don't know if anybody else's experiences but I don't know what to do . Maybe someone can shed some light before I consider doing a factory restore , if that will even work.. I think this thing is bunked.
Edit~ I also tried pressing both volume buttons the power button and the home button all at once and it took me to a blue screen with the android logo and Galaxy written on the bottom . Nothing for a few seconds then it's says erasing and reboots....still a black screen and a solid blue light.

What firmware are you on? If you've taken the most recent updates, don't worry about rooting. Probably won't happen at least for a while. If you have a warranty, I would use it. If you get a new phone, don't take any updates if you might want to root.
If you want to keep this phone you should try the factory reset or the emergency recovery in SamsungSwitch.

I'm not sure which firmware was on it, I did not pay attention before I took the update. I do know I have taken 2 updates in the last week since I received the phone.
I took the phone to a Verizon store and of course, seemed like going backwards. The rep tried all the same things I had tried and ended up calling a customer service rep to help him figure out what to do. Because the phone was purchased online my business' HR lady had to order another one online( which they replaced for free). Not sure what the problem ended up being but I know personally the most recent update BRICKED the phone.
New phone is up and running and thank you about the advice to not update if I prefer root. I love the stock ROM so I was really only going to root to de-bloat alot of the stock apps that are repetitive (i.e. messaging, messages, and Hangouts) .
So as of now no known fix to this blue light of death, except get a new one.

Check out your firmware in settings, about phone. If your build ends in OC3 or OE2, it can be rooted.
Glad you were able to get a new phone.

Good for you! Pingpong is so easy you can be rooted in less than a minute.

My two months old Nexus S started to behave in a way that renders it pretty much useless - Freezing / Locked U
Freeze/Delay Between Menu and basically the phone is dead.
Very often when the screen is off, pressing power button powers up the screen with the screen lock, but the phone is not responsive so the screen just goes off again as it is impossible to slide to unlock it.
On top of that, leaving the phone with the screen off for a half an hour or so brings up some sort of warning sign and a small android (can see the screen shot here: http://yfrog.com/h3apmgqj) and the phone is effectively dead. The only thing to do in any of the two cases is remove and reinsert the battery, but that is no solution to anything. All this is while the battery is fully charged.
Did anyone experienced this before? resetting phone does not help.
Here is more info on this topic: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/label?lid=4e31a500f89fe575&hl=en
Are you using a custom recovery/ROM? That icon you posted isn't the stock image
Hi, no I do not - the image is actually from different phone but it looks exactly as it did on my Nexus S (little green guy with an exclamation mark). I never rooted my phone or done any custom mods to its system.
I actually sent it to Samsung and they are claiming that they found no problem, so they re-flushed the phone and are sending it back. I am seriously angry at samsung. It is arriving on the 11th so I'll let you know if that helped but I doubt it.
I believe this might be a faulty memory because I often received notification that the internal storage was unavailable or something of that nature as well, right before the problem would occur. Are the any tests I could perform for memory / storage?
just try to flash it back to stock
then do wipe data and wipe cache
see if that gets it back on its feet
Hey,
thank you, I thank that means I would have to root it first ehhh
Samsung told me they've done just that (flashed phone) so I am seriously hoping that my phone will work when it arrives on the 11th.
thanks!
Samsung supposedly is looking into this problem, please see link below:

Update:
I just received my phone from Samsung repair and of course, the phone is NOT fixed. On the side note, they also sent back my note that explains the problem meaning it was ignored completely.
I will be contacting @SamsungServic and calling but at this point I am not sure that they can fix the phone other then replace it.
Also,
I've spoken to Samsung and chat online and - yes they nice and throw back lots of promises and niceness back but they are NOT doing anything about it, for now at least.
I copy and paste the best answer on the google support topic to here:
I've been keeping a notebook to document my debugging of this problem. No app in particular is responsible, in my opinion. I have observed the phone lock up after a Factory Data Reset + USB wipe, and with no accounts configured. In fact, I have had it freeze after following this procedure:
1. Factory Data Reset + USB erase from Settings menu
2. Phone reboots.
3. Go through initial setup screens, skip account setup.
4. Power down phone.
5. Remove battery.
6. Remove SIM card.
7. Replace battery.
8. Power up phone.
9. Let phone sit for 15 minutes or more.
10. Phone freezes.
This is about as close to bare bones as I can get with this device.
I have also documented at least four freeze modes:
1. Phone is completely dark (both display and buttons). No combination of power button or other buttons can bring phone back. Battery removal required.
2. Phone display is dark, but the four "hard key" buttons are illuminated. No combination of power button or other buttons can bring phone back. Battery removal required.
3. Phone displays only a green android by a warning exclamation sign. Holding power button down, then volume up, then release volume up, will bring up the Android system recovery screen, from which phone can be rebooted.
4. Phone is frozen at the unlock screen. Sometimes this freeze occurs while swiping the unlock icon. No combination of power button or other buttons can bring phone back. Battery removal required.
I have observed the phone going from normal standby state (display and buttons dark) to state 2, and at other times to state 3, while it was sitting on my desk by the keyboard.
I'm just about ready to send it to Samsung. I just wanted to verify that the problem would be reproducible after a factory reset and without the SIM card.
I think it may be a hardware problem. It's also possible that part of the Android kernel or some device driver on my device has become corrupt. Unfortunately I can't reset the OS.

I did a factory reset from the stock recovery, too. Doesn't help either.
My phone arrived on Friday Samsung mobile repair in Texas. And like they did to ohter Nexus S devices from other users they will do the following to mine:
Reflashing the phone -> doing some functional tests ...
... and this is the crazy thing about it. The error we have is just appearing when the phone is in standby and because of this the phone passes the functional tests Samsung is doing at the end of the service. Phone goes back to user. A defective phone.
Some guy managed to keep the phone alive by setting the display turning off after 30mins. He is charging it twice a day
I got a reply from @SamsungSupport on twitter:
Thank you Fabian for again reaching out to us. We are aware of this issue as some of us have your same phone.
An evaluation is already being conducted to determine the fix. We don't have a timeframe of the resolution.
But understand it will be pushed to phones. We will advise once we have a timeframe.

The support team is friendly and to me it feels like they try to do anything they could.
Funny: One guy got a replacement device. But then no one other. Just reflash...
I think they will do something but on the other hand I'm worried that they will do nothing. But time will tell....
Maybe it would help us if Google will be aware of the problem, too. Ok maybe they allready know it, but I don't know that.
So if some of you here do have some connections... please do us a favor and forward this topic or the link to the google support topic. Feel free to forward this topic to any website you think it would write a news about it. Maybe Google will throw a eye on it. My phone is 8 weeks old and yeah this so anoying. And of course all my friends who are iHippster are trolling me like hell.
It don't want to flame or blame Samsung\Google for this. But our phones are in warranty. The error hits only a few devices and so they should replace it. My 50cent about it... this is not a Google expierence they talked about...
I also had the same problem and sent my phone into Samsung. They only re flashed it, which didn't fix the problem. I immediately called Samsung to inform them that the issue was not fixed and they just told me to send it back for "double checking." Do you think it is better to send it back in or just wait for fix to emerge?
I will be sending it back and demand replacing the phone, also making sure they just don't re-flash again. I guess anything but re-flashing could work.
Remember that I've mailed my phone with one page letter explaining the problem. Their response was flashing the phone and sending it back - with my letter.
Here is note from the support team:
----------------------------------------
Original Problem:
Technical Inquiry
Phone Freezing / Locked U
Freeze/Delay Between Menu
Problem found:
NO TROUBLE FOUND
SW,PRL,OTSL RESET
Solution:
Passed All Functional Testing
--------------------------------------
@Samsungservice did not even acknowledge it officially that this is a problem.
Yeah i wrote a letter too explaining the issue and how to recreate it (the first time). They told me that it passed their quality assurance inspection after re-flashing it, which must be very poor because my phone shut off again 15 minutes after receiving it. Just dropped it back off at UPS today. Can they replace the phone because of this issue? I know one person had success, but it doesn't seem anyone else has.
Nexus S faulty
Samsung may not be able to reproduce it after reflashing; as this issue does not seem to occur when connected to a PC/computer via USB. Their automated testing could be over USB.
Looks like more and more people are facing this issue as the day goes by.
Search for "Nexus S fault state" on google and you'll find the google support forum thread discussing it
Guys,
Did anyone have tried to flash a custom rom to see if this will solve the problem ?
cheers !
No, but this problem is not ROM related.

I figured that was why they couldn't recreate the shutdown. Made sure they knew that it has to be unplugged. Mine always shuts off within 10-15 minutes if untouched.
I have same problem.Only remove battery helps. I have been having nexus s for 2 and half months and this problem just came last week. I don't know how to solve it. I tried reflash firmware but didn't help.
welcome to the club. you have to send it to USA to get it serviced (make a extreme detailed problem description and make sure the support worker writes it down 1:1 into their ticket system). they provide a 2day ups shippment label, BUT only to locations in USA.
I can recommend FedEx. They helped me a lot with this duty stuff for shipping to USA. That's not so easy . I paid €50 to get it shipped to a friend of mine in USA.
You have to send only the foreparts of the device. No battery and back panel, no charger and so on. But they will give you all informations at the end of the service request.
or: wait for a hotfix. which maybe never will come.
Update:
I just mailed my phone again... they told me they do not replace phones (not sure what that means yet). The Rep was arguing that if I want the phone replaced then I need to talk to T-Mobile - it does not make any sense.
Anyway, I explained the problem as much as I could and did not mail any notes this time as they obviously do not care for it. But I made sure he included every detail in his notes.
I am very skeptical but still hoping....
Also,
About the part when the phone does not freeze when plugged in or charging. I had my Nexus S charging overnight and it was frozen in the morning.
Update:
Also, I've contacted @SamsungServic via Twitter and asked if their team recognized it as a problem, but I've got no response.
On the other hand if you report the problem to them, they will respond that they will look into it - which means nothing, but if enough people asks the same question them they will have to.
-thanks
I've got some sort of responce via Twitter from @SamsungService, here is what they wrote back:
@SamsungService
Thank you for reaching out to us. We are aware of this issue as some of us have your same phone. An evaluation is already being conducted to determine the fix. @Keinam
Does this mean we should stop sending our phones back for repair and just wait for your OTA update? If it happens?
@SamsungService
Many issues can be resolved with warranty service. Regarding the issue you've referred to,It is my understanding that a fix if being worked on which would be sent out OTA. ^Mary
Hey guys, I just collected my N8020 today, and after some playing with it, I noticed the camera flash led on the back of the tab was stuck on an on state. I tried restarting, enabling/disabling the flash from the camera menu but it never goes off. When taking a picture, or using a flashlight app from the market, the LED does flash brighter, but when turned off it never completely goes off. The light is even on when the tab is powered down. Since I cannot yank the battery out to completely cut the power, I thought of trying to run the battery down until the LED dies. The device has completely run out of power and does not start up anymore, but the flash is still on. Anyone has any suggestions on what I can try, or is it possibly a hardware fault?
did you do a factory reset?

It finally ran out of what little battery and the flash went off. I started charging the device and turn it back on, and the flash comes on again. Ive tried reset to factory defaults but the flash is still on.
Need to get it exchanged. Hardware fault in flash LED circuit.
Personally I'd take it back to the shop as there should be some protection against defects in the 1st week or so, in Oz the shops are suppossed to replace immediately any returned item if it is less than a month since purchase. Yo might need to find out what your countries laws are and hold firm, if the counter staff won't help ask to speak to a manager. Don't surrender the old tablet over until you have a new one in your hands. The old trick they use is it has to be sent away, if you don't want to see your new toy for at least 2 weeks, hand it over.... When it comes back it won't be new anymore....
Silly question- is there any chance the "Assistive Light" widget is on? It does sound like a hardware defect, though.
I've contacted the telco and they will be sending me a replacement tomorrow. Thanks guys for the advise.

FYI..............
If I remember correctly Samsung was giving an extra 3 months of warranty if you registered your device online so if you registered online you really may have 2 more months of warranty.

Just install "CPU awake" from play store, this will help you keep the device working, this problem is very common in each & every Samsung flagship, starts after 2 year use(won't ever buy a Samsung flagship again), no fix for it, if you don't believe me, check Evey flagship forum q/a section.

That's a nand problem, if the device is cooled (I hold mine in front of AC for 5min.), that will help it to turn on & once it's on, install the app & it will work fine but it shouldn't be allowed to shutdown or it has to be cooled down again, it's not a new problem, thousands of Samsung mobiles which ship with faulty nand face the exact same problem, I know it sounds silly, it is what it is & it works(for thousands users)

Rishi is correct about cpu awake on the Note 4. It is commonly viewed as a means of extending the life of the Note 4 but eventually the phone will fail.

Hi,
I got my new Onelus 6 five days ago, and i installed the latest updates (ONEPLUS A6003_22_180614).
For the last three days, i've had issues with the screen going black. When i lock it and then try to unlock it, the screen doesn't switch back on, it keeps being dark.
I tried to reboot it several times (Volume button + power) but the screen is still black. The phones vibrates and the LED works but the screen doesn't.
I tried to remove the SIM card, but the problem is still here.
Sometimes after 100 trials, the reboot works, but the problem comes back as soon as i try to unlock it.
Do you know where this bug might come from ? Firmware problem or phone problem ?
I really don't know what to do... I hope you'll be able to help me !
Thank you
Sounds like you should contact OnePlus and it may be a defective phone. Maybe have to RMA it and have it replaced.

Have you tried a factory reset,or using the msmdownloadtool
My phone is brand new, I don't think a factory reset would change anything, does it ?
I want to see what OnePlus support can do for me before trying anything with softwares on my phone ! (I don't want to loose warranty)

I had a similar issue within a day of getting the phone. Nothing worked and had to send for replacement.
Try to reset to the factory settings. If this can't help you, refer to the service center or to shop where you bought the phone.
Hello. I'm having the same problem. Bought my phone couple days ago and it runs ONEPLUS A6003_22_180713. Don't know what to do sinse there is no OnePlus service centre in my city. Have your problem been solved? Have you done anything special?
Hi,
Unfortunately I had to send it back to the website where i bought it. I have been refunded, and i bought a galaxy S9+ (cheaper than the OnePlus 6 i got)
Even i got the same issue since Pie update.
Had rooted when it was on Oreo, when Pie (OOS 9.0) update came, it came with a new issue. Whenever I unlocked the phone, the screen would flash with blue lines and black background multiple times then show the lockscreen. And now with OOS 9.0.2 the issue went even more drastic, the screen kept on flashing while using apps. Even forced reboot didn't solve the problem. I had to power it off and leave it aside in nighttime. The issue has decreased but the lockscreen flashing still exists.
Temporary fix - https://thedroidguy.com/2018/07/how-to-fix-oneplus-6-that-wont-turn-on-easy-fix-1087099
If the issue increases, then I would restore Oreo ROM and relock the bootloader.
I need help tooo!

Best solution is to keep the screen ON always. Or else that flashing bug will keep recurring.
But this is a temporary fix and not all would like to keep it Always ON
Same here from 3 days ago. OX 9.0.2
The phone hangs, No respond and must hard-restart the thing.
Same issue here, since the past 2 weeks. The phone screen keeps flashing when the phone is locked and even restarting the thing 20 times doesn't make the phone start. The LEDs work fine, the phone receives calls and messages too but the entire screen is black and unresponsive at the moment I face this issue. The moment I lock the phone the issue crops up and it's a pain to restart it every time it happens.
Hi, I'm new to the forum and to mobile operating system troubleshooting in general. I'm hoping to gain some insight into an issue I'm having.
I broke the screen on my mi mix 3 and after waiting for 2 months it finally arrived from Shenzhen. Yesterday I disassembled the phone, connected the new screen, turned it on, and it just went into a bootloop. I've never changed any part of the operating system on the phone before so I just assumed something was making a poor connection. I unplugged all the leads and plugged them back in again, checked that everything was firmly in place, and ended with the same result.
Fastboot will run sometimes for 10+ minutes and then the phone will just shut off, normal booting it will switch from "Mi" to "MIX" and the animation at the bottom of the screen will freeze after a couple clicks and it will loop back to restarting (but twice it has just ended with an all white screen). Rebooting from Mi Recovery mode results in the same.
From what I've seen I'll just need to follow this and flash the phone : https ://c.mi .com/thread-2504118-1-1.html?t=1590725045909
But my question, is there any possible way to try to fix this issue without loosing all my data and without using a back door method that may just brick the phone?
Thanks for any help, btw I still have the back glass off (I've tried with the fingerprint scanner plugged in, nothing) just in case it could somehow be a hardware issue.
So I've given up on trying to save my data, I don't really care much about that to be honest. I just really like this phone and would like to use it. I tried to flash the phone using Miui's official instructions but I can't unlock the bootloader because I can't download the app Miui's flash tool is requiring me to download on the phone to authorize it.
I guess I'll keep looking for a work around.

I changed my display too and it's bootlooping. Did you solve this problem?
I changed my Display too...everything worked fine when I tested it. I unplugged it again to clean the phone and to bring on the glue..when I had the Screen on I restarted and had a black screen...so tried to remove the screen which then just broke...so I ordered a new one and a new display flex cable - I didn't glue the screen yet because I either experience black screens when the screen gets pushed against the backplate or the phone ends in a bootloop -> for the bootloop thingy I just waited for about 10 minutes and then it started normally so there must be something with replacement screens...I don't know whats going on -.-
Hi
Has anyone managed to get this fixed?
The screen works initially but after a while it goes blank, reboot I get the Mix logo not mix 5G. The replacement is a LCD.
Looks like it is stuck in bootloop as inserting sim does phone does not ring when I call it nor front face camera clunk when I slide it
