Wifi SU binary update issues - Verizon Droid Charge

Ok so over the weekend I decided to root my Charge and after going through the steps on youtube for the latest gingerbread Root charge I had success.
I found a apk file for a wifi tether and got it up and running, however I was receiving a SU binary update out of date and needed to update. My upload/download when the program was pretty slow too(.40kb/.23kb) so I decided to update.
However after getting through the Fixing database, Checking busybox, current install path and downlading new binary ok, when I get to checking md5sum I get a FAIL. So I rolled back SU and downloaded barnacle. It would work the first time I start it after downloading, again crappy speeds. After I stopped and restarted it I get these errors and the wifi tether doesn't start:
- NAT: Could not set NTU of pdpbr1: Invalid argument
- WIFI: Could not set ad-hoc mode of eth0: Invalid argument
- Connected to NAT
- Running...
- WIFI: Conld not set ssid of eth0: Invalid argument
- Stopped unexpectedly!
Trying to keep SU updated besides the binary I get the same errors with both programs from the start. I have root checker and am rooted correctly. What am I missing or doing wrong?
Also I was recently told I needed to boot into Clock Work Recovery, which I didn't have installed and turn off SU. I don't even know how to do that.....but I did just install clockwork recovery but still have no idea how to turn off SU. HELP please.
X

OK so I got clockwork recovery up and flashed. I still have the binary needs updated. I have the 3.0.3 zip file and when it goes to flash it it fails and reboots my phone. Please someone help. I've got binary 2.3.1 currently and can't get any higher

Google search for ChainsDD's superuser website (guy who made superuser I guess), from there you can download the most current superuser apk and binaries to flash in CWM plus update super user in the market afterwards if possible then update binaries through the app like normal and it should work... also what tethering app are you using? a common one is wifi tether version 3.1 beta6 in which there's a known issue that the app will not turn off tethering unless the phone is rebooted causing problems like yours and seems to be why it only works after you reboot
there is a newer version that is 3.1 beta7 I think and that apk is supposed to be fixed for that... also within the tether app set the master settings or something (haven't used it in a while lol don't remember what its called) to the Samsung Fascinate profile and use soft tap

I tried that last night as well. I found the latest 3.0.6 and flashed it using clockwork. It showed and updated my SU to v3.0.3, HOWEVER...the Su binary version was still at 2.3.1 and won't update. I still get the same errors as above.
I was using Barnacle and another stable wifi, can't remember the name atm and its no longer on the phone. I have the file at home.

Anyone? I've emailed ChainsDD with no reply either.

what kernel are you using?

Running 2.6.35.7 EP3

Help, still can't figure this out.

Anyone have an answer on why this is happening? Did I forget to do something? Should I startover with another flash? If so, can anyone point me to where I can get back to stock or what I need to do?
Thanks

if there's no fix by now then yeah I'd start over... find the Fix Your Phone sticky in the dev section and grab the stock EE4 .tar file as well as the pit file, flash them both in Odin (pit in PIT section and the rom in PDA with the repartition box checked) and when you boot up you should be at fresh new stock EE4 froyo... it'll probably prompt you to update to GB at that point which you can either do or ignore and put CWM on there and flash your rom of choice

ROM Manager error??

Tried to run a fix permissions and I got "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!".
I'm running the 8/1 OTA, new hydra kernel, and 2.15.X radio.
Has anyone encountered this before??
For the record, I already updated to superuser 2.3.1 and it's still not working.
Not sure if this should be in the themes and Apps section or General.....I have had the same issue although I don't get any error when I try to run the fix permissions option it goes to a black screen then stalls. This didn't start happening until I upgraded to the newest Superuser Permissions.
Yeah I actually tried switching super user apps, but it didn't make a difference

I just tweeted a message to Koush about it. Hopefully we'll get a reply.
Keep us updated. I just ran into this issue too. Did a backup last night with no issues, but suddenly today, I'm getting that message.
any word on this
I'm on cm6.0.1 now and no longer having the issue. Never got a reply from koush though.

I don't mess with Fix Permissions anymore. It really screwed me up the first time I worked on SkyRaider, and a bunch of strange things began to happen. I find my phone tends to run better just leaving everything as-is.

I was experiencing a similar deal and the only solution was; removed, rebooted and reinstalled the app......that resolved all the issues. My current setup: Leaked Hybrid Froyo 2.2 version 3.21.605.1, radio 2.15.00.07.28, Hydra 2.6.32 occuv-v10, S-OFF and what not.......Good Luck !
Another thing, in my case I was not even able to uninstall the app using the MENU/SETTINGS/APPLICATIONS/MANAGE APPLICATIONS procedure so I used 'Root Explorer', search for the app, Mount R/O and "adios"........
been reading about a bug do to "Bash" in the new roms, not sure what the fix is as i don't use RM but i think in the skyraider 3.0 rc3 tread there is a temp fix for this issue
i have been having an issue with rom manager also every time i tell it to install a zip from sd or do a back up or even reboot into recovery i get an error that says the update.zip failed signature veri. also it says the update.zip is in /cache

DI18 update for Stock Roms Only

Firon was nice enough to make sweet sweet magic. if im right, this will let you update to DI18 if you are on a custom rom/kernel and it will "do the deed" for you.
Firon said:
Here's a signed update that will not trash your recovery, kernel, or root. You do not need a stock kernel for this update.
It will restore only the required stock files/apps and update your modem, so as long as you're on DI07, it should successfully update.
I tested it already on my own phone, worked great.
This way you don't need to restore a bunch of random files to update.

Only use the attached .zip if you are fully stock!
so i pulled a copy of the DI07 to DI18 update off of my cache partition. anybody want it to mess with?
*edit*
no changes have been made to it. ill let someone else which more adept skills do what they do best. I simply just got the notification, grabbed it from cache and threw it up here.
*edit2*
gotta be 100% stock (minus clockwork)
simple fix? Flash This before you flash the update.
Would it install on its own? If so throw it up here.

Thanks. Installed just fine.
In regards to the upload speed fix alone (not tested much else yet):
DL UL

294 241
63 162
95 197
Well...those numbers suck but it does prove that the UL is no longer stopping below 170 UL (my highest ever). Will test later, too.
I went outside and ran it a couple more times and it's looking good.
DL 474, 959 UL 322, 241
Thanks, installed fine for me. Upload is still ify.

Do i have to install all my stuff again to install this? And is this the real update?
First off this is my first android phone and this is one heckuva community ! Still hadn't gotten any OTA update so I installed with this one. Installed perfectly with clockworkmod, speedtested on two different servers and it seems to have fixed the problem! Sending that screenshot to my e-mail was also much less painful Thanks newkidd!

Yeah ull need to have the stock apps and odex files or wait for someone to take this and make ita zip file we can just flash through clocworkmod. I tried it and it aborted after it didn't find some odex file ...

Does this effect root or cwm? I'm unrooted at the moment because i only use root to remove apps, which would have pointless because i wanted this.
Guys, please report battery life with this update in the next few days. I know DI07 greatly reduced it (due to that DRM service it seems), but I'm hoping this one is better.

My root was kept through the update. I was running on stock with just joey's root fix and it is still rooted after the update.
I haven't rebooted, but I suspect I may have to reinstall recovery, though, because when I looked in the update.zip, they had the recovery-install in there again. Not confirmed, though.
The update came in OTA for me about 10 minutes ago. I went ahead and applied it, and with about 5-10% left on the status bar at the bottom (during the Updating modem phase) it seems to have hung. Most of the 10 minutes has been stuck in that spot. I'm afraid to pull the battery and brick it, but on the flip side it's doing me no good if it's just sitting here like this permanently, either. Anyone else see anything similar?
And I am currently running completely stock and NOT rooted, so I should be the perfect target candidate for the update. Haven't had the time or need yet to make those changes.
Worked beautifully. Make sure you flash back to stock DI07. This will delete your clockwork recovery, but not your root script.
It works
Installed using stock recovery (i.e. signature verification works).
I used noobnl's zip dump of DI07 to restore files I had removed/replaced.
I applied this update without removing root and had root after updating. (Verified with titanium as well as terminal emulator by running commands $su, # remount rw /system) note that I had replaced the oneclick busybox with titanium's download to keep it happy.
Note: I had rooted at DI07 since I used ODIN at this point in the past, so I was using a newer version of the one-click root.
3G speed test results:
Ping (ms)/Down (kbps)/Up (kbps)/Location
207/261/541/At my cubicle (top floor, but 500ft away from the nearest exterior wall/window)
325/307/547/In a breezeway (also top floor, exterior windows on both sides)
EDIT:
172/675/699/Courtyard ~100 feet from nearest building under a tree.
Still looking like upload is faster than download in my area... but it's definitely fixed.
Also: here's my tethered results (from my cube)
It doesn't affect root - I was rooted before and I still am. First thing I did once the update installed was remove junk apps after having to put them back for the update to work.
Recovery seems to be gone, though. I installed it through clockwork but I just tried booting into recovery again and it brought me to the stock recovery. So it seems you'll have to reinstall clockwork if you apply the update.
Speed test results are atrocious, but that's the norm in the middle of the day near my office. This morning I had 725/146, but I've run three tests since then, all AFTER applying the DI18 update:
82/10
283/16
221/29
Yes, 82/10. You read that right. That is what 3G is like where I am sitting right now. But I have 4G here so it doesn't matter. And 3G seems to be a little better in other places. I will test again in a different area and see if this improves uploads.
I take it from all of these positive responses that nobody else experienced it hanging near the end of the flash process?
Anyone with experience have any recommendations on what I do?
I just tried to flash this using clockwork, didn't like that I have the Galaxy MobileAP installed and not the Sprint one and aborted. Will have to wait until somebody else releases a version that will work anyways.

[Q] Rooted with CWM, can't update binary

Hey everyone,
Earlier this week I was on here trying to figure out how to get rooted. A very helpful member explained how I could do it with CWM and flashing the superuser zip file. I did this and successfully rooted my phone!
Now it keeps prompting me to update the superuser binary. But I get the error "Failed to find currently installed su binary. Update cannot continue"
I'm still rooted, and my WiFi tethering still works, so is outdated binary a problem? How can I fix this and get it updated?

do you know the version of superuser you flashed? should've been 2.3.6.3 or something... you may need to update the app in the market (3.0.5 is what is current I think) and then the update should go through fine, or it'll at least stop prompting for it

I'm getting the same error with 3.0.4 and 3.0.5. Also if you check the app in the market, the reviews are filled with comments from users having all kinds of problems across numerous phones since superuser was updated to 3.0.4 or 3.0.5. Not sure what is going on, but it seems to be a pretty widespread problem for which no one has yet found a solution.

Yep. The app description now has a *Note that reads "app and binary will have different versions. the app is updated more often than the binary is" Stick with version 2.3.6 and you should have no problems.

[Q] Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus - Wi-Fi no longer working

I have a rooted GT-P6210 that was working perfectly fine and last night I updated Busy Box Free from Google Play. Busy Box Free reported an error with the install and shortly after I noticed that my Wi-Fi would no longer connect. It just reports "Error" after trying to connect to Wi-Fi.
I tried re-rooting my device but that didn't fix my Wi-Fi issues. I researched everywhere I could think of to unroot my device but all the threads seem to refer to guides that I don't see and firmware links that no longer work. I managed to find a copy of Odin3-v3.04 (not sure if that is the right version) but I still don't have instructions on how to do it nor do I have the firmware that I need.
I decided I would try going back to factory settings by powering off the device and booting into system recovery. I have done a wipe data/factory reset multiple times but Wi-Fi still doesn't work and I don't even know if that removed the root job I did.
When I plug my device into my PC and run Samsung Kies it reports that I have the latest firmware PDA:LA3 / CSC:LA3 (XAR)
So I am stuck and not sure what to do at this point. I have a pretty useless device that won't connect to Wi-Fi. I don't know if I wait around for ICS and install that if it will fix my problem.
Is there anyone that could help me restore my device to factory settings with actual guides, and provide working links to the firmware I would need?
Thanks for your help,
Bryson
I have an identical problem - albeit with a P6200 supplied by UK mobile network "3"
Busybox tried to update itself from 1.20.0 to 1.20.1 (using "Smart Install")
For whatever reason it failed. From then on, the Wifi wouldn't turn on - the button in the pop-up panel (can't remember what it's called!) going from grey to greyed-out green while trying to connect, and eventually giving up and dropping back to grey again - in control panel the Wifi section then just says "Error".
Also Tethering no longer works... clicking on "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot" gives me "Turning on..." in grey for 15-20 secs and then "Error"
I've not tried a factory wipe/reset or anything yet. Any suggestions?
Many thanks!
I have also had this issue with my Galaxy Tab 7 Plus (GT-P6210) since Monday evening.
When I noticed the problem I was going to try and restore a backup. During that process is when I noticed that I no longer had root access.
This morning I had a friend look at my device and he noticed that the 'Auto Update' was active. I thought I had that deactivated but apparently not. I’m wondering if an update was pushed out that destroyed root and as a result messed with the Wifi access. So far I haven’t gone any further than this.
Those of you having a similar issue, have you also lost root access? I wonder if re-rooting if that would solve the problem?
Kyazuh
I started having the exact same issue two days ago, I've done countless factory resets and same deal, wifi comes up with error when trying to turn on.
I'm using an international p6200
PDA: P6200LUBKL1
Phone: P6200LUBKL1
CSC: P6200LUUBKL2
I've search everywhere for that firmware to try and do a re-install with Odin, but I cant find it.
Update: Just done a full factory reset, and still no Wifi.
Would a full firmware flash sort it? I've found the correct firmware for my UK "3" network P6200 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517934
This is for flashing with Heimdall:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
... though I've never used Heimdall - or even flashed a ROM TBH - so a bit hesitant to give it a go......
Update 2:
Just flashed with stock firmware and Odin - all back to normal, Wifi working!!
After much searching around I was finally able to find the correct original firmware for my TAB:
P6200LUBKL1
I found it on a Chinese site: (I cant post links yet lol )
With Google translator, I was able to download the file and flash the TAB using Odin3, everything worked perfectly, and Wifi is working fine again!!
I also had this problem after trying to update busybox, only I also had a random SoD issue that had me constantly rebooting my device. The only thing that managed to fix it was to Odin back to stock. I'm reluctant to root it again, but at least the problem is gone...
If you open the zip that you use to root this device, you will see that it is basically a binary called su and one script that move it to your device and set permissions. If you want to remove the root, you only have to delete this single file,
In some devices is not as easy, what the script do on our update package must be done with exploits, but the result is the same: move su to some folder on PATH, and set permissions.
That is it, there is no chance to be root fault, seems like some problem with busybos. Actually people like to blame root a lot
The same exact thing has happened to me with my P6210. When I put the device to sleep, I usually turn off wifi. This time I forgot and when I woke it up yesterday evening, the BusyBox updater was open. It failed, of course, and now my wifi won't turn on. No MAC or IP address.
EDIT: Used Odin to return to stock. Rerooted (but did not install CWM) and then installed Superuser, updated su binary. Then installed Busybox Installer which then installed Busybox. Stayed away from Busybox, which seems to have been the source of the problem on my device.
my bad..
Just updated Busybox to version 1.20.1 myself using the smart updater without any issues. Got message it installed correctly and wifi still works even after rebooting.
edit: One difference between me and the op is that I didn't use Google Play to update Busybox I used the apps smart install through the app itself.
Model GT-P6210 with LA3 build.
Could someone try to uninstall busybox?
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
I tried to uninstall busy box still no wifi.
In recovery mode I tried to reinstall my previous load from the file I had on my SD Card. Again no luck.
I'm willing to do a wipe on mine and put the original firmware back on. Has anyone done this with P2610? I have been looking through the forums and I have seen a lot for the P2600 but not much for P2610.
Thanks
Kyazuh
Do you have root still? I can give you a copy of my /system/bin and /system/xbin. As you are about to flash it new i think it could worth the shot.

Htc One S Root SuperSU0.99 issue

Hi
Many people complained last days that they have problem with SuperSU 0.99 app.
They cant update the binary and phone reboots its self after "update failed" message
I got an HTC One S with S4 cpu last week and i got the new Jelly Bean Update 4.1.1
Then i unlocked my bootloader and installed TWRP custom recovery with One_S_All-In-One_Kit_v3.0 tool kit
After that i tryed to Root the phone with SuperSU 0.99.
Seems worked fine until i tryed to update my binary.
I get message "update failed" and my phone restarts.
I tryed to wipe and reflash the root but still same.
I even tryed to remove SUPERSU from System/App but with no luck. It keeps coming back even if i
removing it and revert everything to stock its still in SYSTEM.
Now i found this new Superuser version and flashed it and now my phone works fine and updating binary.
No more phone restart.
Even my SuperSU 0.99 is gone from system.
How TO:
Download superuser from this page http://androidsu.com/superuser/
Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
Then boot into recovery
Flash Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
Restart and voila the root works...
Hope i helped you guys.. Good Luck
Version 3.1.3 is reported to work better.
And doubt it really needed a new thread starting its discussed in most rom treads.
I started this thread just because of the issue SUPERSU 0.99 brings to HTC One S with Jelly Bean update.
I hope i can help someone because i didnt find any solution to my problem until i flashed superuser and it solved my problem.

I agree that this adds clutter, but I have been lightly following the threads for the JB ROMs and tried using superuser (though not the rc) without it working (still unable to update system). It's good to have this kind of solution in its own thread but general would probably be a better section.
Sent from my HTC One S Special Edition using xda app-developers app
This doesn't belong in the dev section for multiple reasons
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
Im sorry i didnt see that it was Development section. If someone can move it pls do so.
everyone uses SU...... this is very important for everyone using JB... leave it in here...
I feel it belongs here... this is where SU apps are in the development section... SO, this is where it should stay... (that is just my opinion)
I never want to start this thread like an development because im not a developer.
Reason is that i want to share my issue with anyone who is facing the same problem as i did.
Just like i said if someone think this thread doesn´t belong here then admins can move it to right section.
Updated to JB with OTA yesterday night.
Short version:
-Initially rooted with CWM recovery-> flashed MoDaCo stock recovery
-Apply OTA
-Flash CWM recovery
-Used CWM recovery to flash SuperSU 0.99 zip
-Uninstall/reinstall SuperSu from the Market
When starting SuperSU, it asks for update, if agree -> reboot.
BUT
When using root needing apps, like Titanium backup or FX file manager, they ask for root permission through SU and everything runs normally.
So SuperSU seems to work, only the front end app has some bug. I'm staying with that config waiting for an update.
Hi, same problem here on S3 cpu. Is this method works on S3 cpu as well? Thx for replying.
Hi. I think I have a problem with SuperSU (or something else??). I first started SuperSU last thursday (31.1.2013.). It ask me to update binary, I hit OK, and then it took about half hour to restart. System then recovered, and everything seem to be OK, but it's not!
When I connect my HTC One S to PC I only see files created (photos, videos) until 31.01.2013. Also, when I run Settings -> Memory com.android.settings crashes.
What to do?
I'm new to android. Plese help!

Good Luck

Any idea on how to get SuperSU work instead of SuperUser? I purchased SuperSU in the play store and I think it just looks better...
