Well, it could take 15 mins, but you would see some progress of the green "progress bar" under the top left box. The first steps seem slowest to me.
I just hot home from dinner and this is still the screen I get.
My Odin screen has been like this for the past 2 hours...
Is there any you're of loading bar on your phone? From the looks of it nothing is loading on the Odin screen

No on my phone it is just showing the yellow triangle with the android dude and says Downloading under it...
Try another USB port on you're computer..are you using Front USB port? Also try using Odin 1.82 instead of 1.85

Will it hurt to unplug my phone since the process was started...and yes I was using a front USB port..

It looks like it never actually started to flash anything, so it shouldn't hurt a thing. It's actually incredibly hard to actually brick a Charge, short of flashing a firmware file from a different phone.
I kept the battary in to keep it in recovery mode......Trying Odin 1.82 now...but still looks like it is giving me the same error even in the USB port on the back of my computer...SIGH...
Hmm and u do have the Samsung usb drivers installed correct? Typically you want to use a rear USB port to flash. Honestly if none of the USB Ports are working I would install the usb drivers to another PC install Odin enter download mode and try again...seems like is having problems communicating through your USB port
Sent from my SCH-I510
Yeah...they are installed...It auto installed when I hooked the phone into the computer...
I tried to reinstall and it said they were already installed so I know there are there...
Im seriously afraid to restart this thing in fear it wiped something and is not going to reboot correctly.
I think you will be fine reason being is that your flash never began on the phone. Files should be left untouched. I would close odin, remove battery, place phone back into download mode by plugging in the usb while holding down the volume down button and then put your battery in once download mode is shown restart odin v1.82 try again. You may also try to redownload the ep4d all in one file. File corruption is also a possibility
Got it to finally work...restarted my phone got it back into recovery and eventually worked...thanks for all the patience and help guys...
Awesome glad to hear!

Firstly I have to say ODIN3 1 CLICK does not work on my phone.
I flashed a I9000 rom.. darky's as I remember. then I was swiching to a different rom and the cable got unpluged. My phone would noty respond to anything..but 24 hours later i got it onto the Downloading screen!
the FULL ODIN3 does see the phone and gives me a yellow com port...the odin 1 click does not.
the trouble is I dont know where to find..much less WHAT to look for to fill in the odin3 full.
everyone here in the USA seems to use the ODIN3 1 click and not full odin.
I need help finding:
SELECT OPS:
SELECT IMAGE TO DOWNLOAD (BOOT)
(PHONE)
(PDA)
(CSC)
Select integrate package (ONE PACKAGE)
and what checkboxes to check to get the phone back to a working state.
thank you very much!!

Try this thread:

All you need is the jf6.tar in the pda slot and run Odin.
I'm sure you've tried this but be sure to open Odin 1 click before plugging in the phone

Well unplugged and pulled the battery on the CAP and got it back into DL mode and plugged usb into odin1 click waiting comp.
Immediately I see more progress in that the Bar has appeared on the phone and the computer..along with some file names as they are written to the phone. 10 miunutes later the screen of the CAP goes BLANK..no other changes for the next 10 minutes.. what should I do folks? ODIN is reporting the last file written to phone was factoryfs.rfs
The Phone kept stalling on oDIN.. So I tried a different computer...BINGO! phone fixed!
It has been said and I will concur.

Just started today, I just started using 1.7 after this issue but still no luck.
I have had odin get stuck on factory rfs, someone had it get stuck on sbl .bin earlier. Pull battery let it sit for a while, try again.
Trying another computer if at all possible may be a good idea

That actually worked, except I first tried plugging the phone into another computer while it was in download mode without using ODIN, then I let it sit with the battery out, so I think that did the trick. Thank you ^_^
Bricked two stock ee4 phones today flashing jt's voodoo root kernal using the odin in pda mode. Any idea what this screen is and how I can stay away/fix it? after flashing it would fail and stay in this screen. I could get them into download mode but odin would just fail. Tried using the link to the team black hat back up and samsung restore program but that also didn't work the screen would not go away. Any ideas? Thanks

That's what the phone will show whenever you tried to flash something in Odin and it failed. Its a soft brick, nothing major to worry about, you just have to figure out how to reflash the phone. Honestly, nothing you do is a major problem to worry about, as long as you can still get the phone into download mode.
Odin can be really finicky, try using different usb ports. Or even uninstall the device drivers for the USB host and let them reinstall. Remember to close Odin and open it again each time you try, and make sure to check the hash of jt's package you're trying to flash, you may simply have gotten a bad download. Failing that, you may need to try a different computer, or give Heimdall a shot. I'm not sure why these USB flashing utilities can be so finicky, but they can. Rest assured though that the problem is almost certainly not with your phone as long as you can put it in download mode. All you've gotta do is keep trying to find the right combination of flashing program, computer/OS, and usb port, and make sure you have a good file. I know it sounds silly and like a bunch of work, but at least the phones are okay.
I'm used to using odin with my fascinate idk why this phone is kicking my butt ha luckily verizon replaced both phones for me bc they were unable to flash them back to stock as well. His kernal worked once on the first phone then the recovery did the soft brick when I tried to just flash his kernal on the second one it soft bricked again. Thanks for the reply I'm just worried bc I didn't buy my phone from verizon I was lucky enough to have them replace it

Thanks very much for pointing this out. I had played with my phone for several hours after soft-bricking it in this manner before finding this post. Reading this made a light bulb go on over my head, and I tried again plugging my phone's USB cable into another port - one directly connected to my PC's mainboard. My flashing problems with Odin magically went away! Not sure I'd have considered this without your feedback.

yes, i've done that several times. As i said, download mode worked at first which is when odin failed, i unplugged and tried again, it also failed. I than unplugged it again but now when i try to enter download mode by using the volume keys and usb i get a little picture on my screen that shows a cell phone and a computer and in between the 2 pictures is a orange triangle with an ! in the middle of the triangle...i think its a hard brick.
after about 12 attempts it worked. for some reason or another all of my usb charger cords seem to be loose within the port, i know this because while its charging it seems to always go off and on. I think it was acting up when i was running odin which is why it wouldn't work. I have already made a replacement report with ATT, i'll call them back up and either cancel the order or talk to them about the charging port.

You should try to make a jig to put your phone into download mode. The sell them at MobileTech.com,but you need one sooner. I think it's 3 100ohm resistors. Google download mode jig, they have a video on how to make one. I bought one for my Captivate and found out it works on Infuse. I use it all the time.

FYI
Phone/PC screen is just like download mode. When you get that screen, unplug USB cable. Launch Odin, plug in USB and wait for COM port to light up in Odin. Flash away after that
Thank you so much Uncle Irish. I've been stressing for the last hour trying to get away from the phone/PC screen so I could flash lol. Works fine and dandy just as you said.
Yeah, the only difference between Phone/PC screen and download mode is:
Phone/PC screen is forced, it's telling you that you're not going to be able to do anything without flashing something.
i was up dating to the factory released gingerbread and my gf unplugged it to get my attntion and now shows a cellphone and laptop with a "!" between it. is this phone ****ed or can it be fixed easily
That's another screen for DL mode. How were you updating kies or odin? Just leave it like it is close out either program. Reopen program and plug in phone. It should recognize it. From there just reflash. And pay some attention to your girl next time.

I've had to try at least a dozen times in the past. Odin can be really finicky. Try different usb ports. If that doesn't work do a battery pull. Unplug the usb cable from computer but leave it plugged into phone. Restart odin. Plug usb cable into computer. Hold both volume buttons and put battery back in. That should get Odin to recognize it. The key here is keep trying.
got it to work thanks
how do i flash it to gingerbread update now ?
do i have to flash the orginal rom back then do the update?
