MESSAGE TO DEVELOPERS/ANYONE WHO CAN HELP
Long story short, i edited my build.prop incorrectly and reset (yes i know very stupid) now my motorola cliq opens up to the motoblur screen but repeated messages saying "Sorry! the process X has shut down" show up.
Literaly, nearly nothing can open up but i am able to enter usb mode if i fight with the endless popups. i can also enter recovery mode because my phone was rooted before this. The problem is that my recovery image doesnt have any options that could help me
(reboot, apply sd card:update.zip, and wipe data/factory reset)
i've tried putting an official motorola update.zip onto my sd card then running the apply.. but like i told you before my build.prop is messed up a little so an error shows up saying:
Installing update...
E/:Failure at line 1: assert file_contains("SYSTEM:build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint=motorola/morrison_two_us/morrison/morrison:1.5/CUPCAKE/1.4.8:user/rel-keys" == "true" || file_contains("SYSTEM:build.prop", "ro.build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint=MOTO/morrison_two_us/moInstallation aborted
Press Menu+Back to reboot
All i need to do is fix the line of code i messed up but i cant reach my systems files,...i attached my original build.prop and a copy of my corrupted one to show you.. I also cannot use the phone service or network service (even wifi) because like i said, nearly ALL the services are unable to stay on, they immediately shut off at startup.
Ways to fix this would be to REACH/EDIT THE SYSTEMS FILES
1. I cant use an app like root explorer since i cant access any apps on my phone even things like my settings
2. Turn on usb debugging somehow (I cant access my settings app so im lost on this one)
1. ingenious DESKTOP program that can somehow access my phone's system files without adb (if it can access the sd there has to be a way..)
3. Ive looked around to maybe find a custom image recovery that had options like editing system files (shouldn't be hard to make..) but ive found none with that option and im not sure how i would install it without adb...
What i CAN do
1. ENTER USB MODE (that has to count for something so Developers Please help me)
2. I can play with the motoblur intro screen to some degree to make it go away, then a blank black home menu appears. If i wait a while for the popups to stop at the motoblur screen, i follow the instructions but it gets stuck at registering a new account or existing one since you need network access.
3. ENTER REVOVERY MODE (but the only option that looks helpful is the sdcard update which gave me an error...) I havent tried the wipe data/factory reset because the factory reset doesnt touch the build.prop so its pointless
WHat should I do? WHoever sees this please give me advice or direct me somewhere to get it... THANK YOU
[EDIT]
BTW what i was trying to do on the build.prop was replace this line (ro.build.fingerprint=generic/sdk/generic:3.2/HTJ85B/140714:eng/test-keys)
with (ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.1-update1/ESE81/29593:user/release-keys)
but i messd up and put
(ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.1-update1/ESE81/29593:user/rel)
youll see this in the attachments...what this does is unlock my 1.5 firmware market to ALL the apps (updating to the official 2.1 using recovery wouldve handled this but i didnt even know of this update till after my mistake)
I just thought id mention...
if you have adb abilities you can push the old build.prop. If you do not know a out this then post back and I will help you.You said you can enter recovery, but that is stock original recovery that anyone can get access to. If you ever bootstrapped your phone you can try pull the battery out, wait about 10 seconds, then plug your phone charger in without the battery in. If your bootstrappped this will pull you into a more advanced recovery mode. The last option is to use rsd lite to flash an sbf to your phone if nothing else works. If you have never done this just look up sbfing motor cliq to stock.
Good luck, and remember to thank me if this helped
SOLVED!!
I fixed my phone on my own but THANKS to rootfan for being the first to answer.
HERES HOW:
I was able to access recovery mode and from there i discovered the sd update option.
It took hours of research and work but i learned alot about adb, motorola, cliq, etc.
Anyway, i originally found the Blur_Version.2.1.5.MB200.T-Mobile.en.US.zip and i tried to put that in my sd card (i could get into it from the phone) but when i tried to update using recovery it gave me an error so i decided to try the "latest 1.5 with Blur 1.6.1" which was actually very hard to find... you can get it here
motorola. com/staticfiles/Support/Experiences/sdcards/US-EN/tmo/cliq/downgrade-to-cupcake .html
Lastly, i put that on my sd as update.zip, went into recover, and the update was SUCCESSFUL! MY PHONE REBOOTED AND NOW IS ACTING NORMAL AGAIN. Now, im trying to update to the Androidâ„¢ 2.1 (Eclair):
motorola. com/staticfiles/Support/Experiences/sdcards/US-EN/tmo/cliq/2-1_index. html
but im still getting that error whether i update using recovery or the settings/about phone/system update option... Thats strange but my phone is still working normally and ill find a way to update to 2.1...
ONCE AGAIN THANKS TO ROOTFAN AND HOPEFULLY THIS POST WILL WORK FOR SOMEONE ELSE WHO MAY BE HALF-BRICKED (no adb, no usb debug, no root explorer) THERS STILL HOPE IN RECOVERY+USB DRIVE+BLUR VERSION SOFTWARES
Thanks man, now this is probabaly a redicilous reply, since im sure you would have already tried this, but you can try going into settings, about phone, and click on update and see if the 2.1 eclair ota update will work on your phone.

Following various threads here how to successfully unlocking and rooting their device, I've failed on so many levels.
At the moment I think my xoom is semi-bricked because its just stuck on the M screen. I've think I got the recovery screen working last night as I was able to go into recover mode but after updates through wifi I think it possibly stopped it.
So when i reboot and go into recovery mode, I get an exclamation mark over an android. I've tried rebooting and just got it to mount back on Fastboot but when I've tried to wipe it and reflesh it to (recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img) its not doing what its suppose to do and giving me "unknown partition, Failed to process command error (0x300003)
Any ideas what I need to do?
Btw, I can reboot, voldown and then volup to choose the 3 options but like I said I can't get into the recovery mode properly.

Could I ask what steps in rooting you completed successfully and where exactly it went wrong?
Then, what exactly have you done to try to move forward?
Also, which guide did you use?
Don't worry, you're not bricked if you can get to fastboot.

Last night I followed this videolinked in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYc1lVWm7ks to Unlock OEM my device
I think that worked fine because it didn't throw up any hiccups.
I then followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242241 to root it. It didn't have superuser so I downloaded it and installed it and then tried Terminal on the "SU" command. Said I did not have 'permissions'
This morning, I then followed this Youtbue link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsVpY0PDwtQ and after the first reboot of puting the new .img, it failed to reboot. Now I'm stuck on the M screen.
I think I managed to get my computer to pick up the device in adb fastboot because it responds to that. However when I type in adb devices it doesn't pick up anything...
Next after messing around I managed to flash it to the boot.img on this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049901
It flashed it ( I think) and worked without errors unlike the other flash I tried today, and its still stuck in M screen.
BTW, this is a UK Wifi Zoom.
Little update - I've downloaded and flash this boot: boot_3.1_insecure.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049901 and now boots up. However my Wifi has now disappeared. I'm in the process of doing a factory reset but will this work?
Still no avail - need to get this wifi working again soon. Think I've finally got access to superuser

It sounds like you are on the right track. Hang in there, you'll make it!
Do you have access to an Ubuntu OS? when you connect an android device to a PC running Ubuntu it will mount the internal memory to the PC which makes it much easier to browse the partitions. Also, Go ahead and reflash the CWM recovery through Rom manager (if thats available to UK users) so that hopefully youll get a fresh recovery.img to work with. As far as ADB not noticing the xoom, you probably erased the adb drivers, and is the usb cord youre using 100% data transferable type? I about pulled my hair out a few times because adb wouldnt recognize my phone but realised I was using an older micro usb cable that only allowed electrical current for charging, not data transfer capable. You might also be able to find a clean nandroid backup file from a fellow UK xoom owner, that you trust, and see if they dont mind sending you their backed up boot-img and system-img. Just some guesses, but sounds like you got it pretty well figured out
Hello all, after a bit of self taught ADB and etc and understanding the mechanics how to successfully flash a Xoom, I managed to follow another guide from stratch (unlock oem, etc) and flashes it to the US stock 3.2.2 rom. It picked up wifi but couldn't connect for some reason - maybe different frequency?
Anyway since then I've installed one of the custom Roms here Team Tiamat Xoom Rom 2.2.2 and all is well now Got my Xoom back up and running with superaccess.
Thanks for all the info on this forum, great place for resource
Mind you, coming from a background with no experience with ADB, it was a bit mind boggling but I managed to get there in the end. Just a bit of feedback for those authors with the guides - maybe put a little subsection on the basics of how to get things prepared and up and running. This I think will help a lot of people who cannot sit for hours on end to trouble shoot something if it goes wrong. Most of the guides here are very useful and handy but at time I just kept saying to myself "wtf, what, where, huh?"

Rooted 3.2 Xoom FAIL
Hi All,
Not the best way to join the boards but I am in deep....
I have a canadian wifi xoom on 3.2. I followed these instructions (How to root 3.2 on US WiFi & Verizon 3G XOOM! (Windows and Mac)) to root my xoom and was having issues with a wifi error.
I decided to use the Canadian boot.img file and when I rebooted the xoom got stuck on the moto logo and is no longer recognized by my computer.
I have tried resetting through the android recovery (I dont have anything 3rd party installed) but no luck. I am afraid that this thing is a total write off.
Any thoughts? Thanks
Blair
I have a sl101. I only get eeepad screen. My son did something to the machine. I can get it to say booting recovery but nothing happens. I also can get a text that says cold booting Linux. Again nothing happens. Nvflash says USB write fail. But when I check adb the device is recognized. Is there a way for me to adb push a recovery in there for me to boot too, so I can reflash a rom. I have a little dilema here. I also was wondering if I can flash rom thru adb. I read once that's how they used to do it on g1. I don't know if I am speaking accurately though. Any kind of light shed on me will be greatly appriciated

not sure about the slider but i had a customer return yesterday with this exact issue on the tf101 and i couldnt get out of it. the tf just kept switching itself back on and getting stuck on the splash screen.
found this set of instructions but im not sure if its what you need or if it will work:
http://androidroot.mobi/technical/asus-eee-pad-transformer-tf101-root-cwm-recovery/
good luck
That is exactly what is going on with mine. The slider is basicly the same thing. I plug it in and I tries to boot. I thought you had to be booted into recovery or the rom for adb to work? That's why I believe this method you just revealed to me. Or some variation of it will work. I will be trying shortly.

nvflash if your TF101 is compatible model.. (must B60 and below).
Or read Wolf's thread HERE. It might helped everyone here..
Thanks but everything needs adb connexion and as apx is not working, i can't connect ADB..
I have a B50 model
Nobody have a clue ?
well, I have to send it back to my reseller that will change it but before that I need to delete clockwork mode or brick it, how can i do ?
I tried every thread here, update rom does nothing, looks like it does not write anything on the tablet
Thanks in advance
try to follow this procedure...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25636698&postcount=5
let me know
Hello, thanks, but as I can't get to apx mode, I can't use nvflash, so still stuck with my recovery, I tried to modify super Wipe package to do things but can't get through...
If someone can make a package to delete recovery, then I can try it on my tablet, I really yneed it to be bricked cause now it load with Rogue's recovery on and on, so the reseller will new it has been modified and I will have to pay to get it back ...
Thanks in advance
with the procedure posted in the previous link you don't need APX mode and don't need NVflash...
Just boot your TF in recovery mode and plug it to your pc...
remove all previous drivers and install the new one that you can find in the post
ciao
ps... at the end of the procedure you will have your TF101 with stock rom and stock recovery
I will try but even when I am on recovery, nothing appears in Hardware management, no recognition from My computer, still strange... And when I power + vol down key, It never says to presse vol up in the text in the upper left corner, just says booting linux kernel...
When I try to boot pressing vol up + power, nothing happens, not even the clics that can be heard when it powers up...
I had a similar issue when I used SuperWipe and discovered my ROM on the external SD Card could not be accessed by CWM
I tried pushing the file with adb but kept receiving errors - protocol, etc. I suspected it was a driver issue along with the fact that 64 bit systems don't always play nicely with drivers. I actually dug up an old hard drive and did a very basic install of 32bit Win7. I booted the Transformer into CWM and when I connected it to my PC - I pointed it to the universal naked driver. I was then able to successfully push the rom to internal storage and used CWM to flash it
Hello,
I tried to connect my tablet to an old Windows 2000, but still nothing happens
Hello every one, I finally sendt back my transformer to my reseller, now I can buy a new one...
Thanks again
As the title says, RUU attempts booting my phone but it never comes back on. Even selecting restart boot loader in fastboot or a command it doesn't power itself back on. I have read through other forums and nothing has worked for me yet.
EDIT: I should probably clarify fastboot usb WORKS. Ruu must see my phone considering it detects the ROM version and turns the phone off in attempt to reboot. Anything that I do that requires a reboot doesn't work. I have tried unlocking the bootloader again, everything is fine until it comes to rebooting then I must turn the phone on myself and nothing changes...... IT DOESN'T REBOOT ITSELF therefore seemingly nothing wants to work. And the HTC boot screen is gone??

Yes I did through fast boot with the oem lock command. I've tried installing RUU with a Windows 7 laptop (has HTC sync software) and Windows 8 desktop (basic drivers). Both failed, tried using Windows XP/Vista in compatibility modes and running as an admin with the same results.
Error 171 is a connection error, meaning the RUU can't connect to/find your phone.
Try uninstalling HTC Sync, rebooting your pc, and installing it again. If you've got the Android SDK installed, be sure it's also fully updated.

No luck. And I believe it does see the phone in the beginning of the installation. It makes it reboot to the boot loader and that's where it loses the connection. The phone just isn't booting itself back up. I appreciate the reply, if you have anymore ideas please let me know.
Could be something got corrupted. Try redownloading the ruu. Does adb see the phone?

No. If adb doesn't see it, fastboot won't either. Does the command "adb devices" (no quotes) show the device as connected?
It sounds like the connection might be working for a few things (like rebooting the phone, as you mentioned). But I still think a connection issue is the main problem.

Fastboot does see it but adb does not. And what I mean by rebooting the phone in my last post is RUU attempts rebooting it from the boot loader which does turn the phone off but it stays turned off. I've used other commands to reboot the phone from the fastboot screen and those too turn off the phone then again it doesn't come back on like a reboot should do.
I have about completely gave up and going back to using a regular feature phone. I have watched a video about a jtag repair service and was wondering about that or just selling the phone as bricked on ebay.

Well if it's not bricked then I sure wish somebody would lead me to the right direction. I have tried 5 different PCs (which all show as connected through fastboot) and they all came with the same error. I've tried everything I could possibly think of and I haven't seen anyone else with quite the same problem I'm having.
I still have not completely gave up and have already decided against selling it as "bricked". The bootloader still comes up so there is at least some hope.
i just had the same problem. the solution was simple - i switch usb-port from front one to the backside one which is directly on motherboard.

Yes this + if you're on a usb3 port try usb2. Also make sure you're using the cable that came with the phone as I understand other cables may cause issues like this. Also, avoid using a hub or usb extension.
Solution to error 171
I had the same problem and after many attempts I finally got it to work!
-Uninstall anything HTC related from your computer such as HTC Sync Manager and Drivers. Also delete any HTC folders from your program files.
-Make sure you leave the sdk and adb stuff that you downloaded.
-Connect your device via USB to your computer and let it recognize it. It will automatically install default drivers.
-A pop-up asking to install HTC Sync will appear, just ignore it.
-Make sure you set Fast Boot OFF on your phone, and Debugging ON.
-Leave your phone ON and run the RUU set up.
-Then follow the steps on the wizard and everything should work just fine!

I have a similar problem with my HTC One. I am stuck in the bootloader and any action I take leads straight into a boot loop. If I try to reboot, reboot-bootloader, go into recovery (twrp), or factory reset it goes into a boot loop. Also I can't lock the bootloader and flashing my recovery doesn't help, even though it says its a success. I've tried three computers and deleted and reinstalled drivers but still the computers only find my phone in fastboot usb and can't find it using adb.
This solution above won't help me since I can't get my phone on for the life of me. I tried running RUU and All-in-One Toolkit but no luck. RUU fails finding the bootloader since my phone gets stuck in its boot loop. I am fresh out of ideas so any other ways to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.
BTW I found my phone is this condition when I pulled it out of my pocket. I never installed custom ROMs on it. It is unlocked and rooted though running 4.2.2 (3.05.651.6) hoot 1.55. The only thing I can think of is that an OTA update got pushed to my phone and bricked it. That or for some strange reason something went wrong with phone from the rooting process after two weeks of it working perfectly.

hi all..
facing same problem with HTC Desire 816 n 4g... have anyone got any solution??
plz pass it..
thank you
So I wanted to see how my phone would be in stock firmware / software for a while to use some streaming services flawlessly for a while. The problem is the guides to do so dont seem to be working with my Cyanogen Recovery.
When I try certain guides that recommend using Fastboot or Mfastboot , the device is not authorized or recognized outside of Apply update> ADB sideload. Im guessing its because i need to activate USB debugging. The problem is i already factory reset so the only thing in the phone right now is last weeks NGHTLY mod, and I cant open debugging options without settings freezing. So im technically locked out of USB debugging menu in the phone because it freezes.
I tried loading a few different Zips to see if the phone would take ANYTHING (follow a few guides) and none of them work. A white word saying "error" pops up. I remember one time one of the errors said "footer is wrong".
Anyone have any ideas or run across this situation before? Id be willing to start over with things i've already tried to give you detailed answers about any errors i run into but id appreciate the hand holding since Im generally lost when the guides stop working and I barely have any error messages to google off of.

I can get into Cyanogenmod recovery but get a white text saying "error" when loading zips.
I can load the phone with last weeks NGHTLY mod but i cant access USB debugging because the phone seems to freeze when i access develoption options. Almost like its loading insanely slow.
I would suggest factory image here

However I've never used cm recovery.
You could try the more versatile TWRP recovery, and may have better luck with whatever you are trying to do

yeah thats the problem. whenever i load one of these it just says error and stops. ill google how to load twrp recovery and see if i have better luck
edit: this is my issue mainly. i cant enable usb debugging so i cant do the CMD commands to install things like TWRP recovery. do you guys have any alternative to that? Im looking things up in google without much luck
edit: so this is as far as ive gotten since im forced to use this cyanogenmod recovery. no matter what i try to run i get "Verification error" and if i try to install Gapps i get "error 20" and i still cant access usb debugging because it freezes. Any idea on a fancy way to get around this verification issue? Guides suggest using a different recovery but it doesnt seem possible without the google play store or USB debugging.
yeah im not able to do anything without getting verification errors and without a different recovery i cant seem to disable it. hope someone has a direction to point me in.
