Hi,
I am currently trying on new ROMs (ICS for Nexus S i9020t).
I was wondering if I can back up my apps before trying new ROMs and restore them on the newly installed ROMs.
Can this be done? I just want to backup the apps, like gmail, clock settings, gentle alarm (w/settings) etc.
Use titanium

Yes you can.
Use Titanium Backup to do this.
You can find it here.

Hi i want to know how to install the root ics rom for my nexus s without losing any apps if possible n successfuly. Will features like face unlock come with the root ics rom too?
Thankkksss
You can use titanium backup to backup your apps however titanium does not support ics yet. And most of the features are on the current version of the ics ask however face unlock is not yet on there...supposedly the next one will.

Hey guys quick question. If im wanting to try another ROM but dont want to lose contacts, messages, call history, notes and such only important things, how do i go about backing them up?
Basically i want to try another rom but after i flash the new rom i wish to have my info from the previous rom back on the new one. What is the proper way to do this?
Lastly, can some recommend ANY STABLE ASOP, AOKP, CM? Just any ROM without sense which is the most stable and with the most features working (i.e camera, BT, and such)
Thank you so much!
There is an app called "super backup" on play store...u can give it a try..

Use titanium backup or helium for the apps data. Contacts sync it with your google account.
Hello everyone.
I have installed Ditto Rom v3, that custom rom was perfect but I faced with a trouble. I wiped the phone and installed Phoenix v15. My problem has solved.
Yet, I didnt like stock keyboard, even I hate it. Ditto's keyboard was excellent. Can I bring back it ? I want to delete original keyboard from the system and install Ditto's keyboard.
My phone is Note II (N7100) by the way.
Thanks.
Will anyone help me, please ?
There are plenty of keyboard apks out there. U can definitely find the keyboard or looking for.

May be it is too late now because you have already installed a new rom.
When you were with you old rom, you can try backup software like Tianium Backup to backup your keyboard then restore it to your new rom. However, you must have both old and the new rom rooted.

Can you tell me how can I backup keyboard application ? Thanks.
So I've downloaded all the stuff and made my mind to root the device.
Just some final questions..
1) I would be installing Xposed Framework on the device, will it hinder any OTA updates to the stock ROM?
2) If I install a custom ROM like CM, and then let's say Android 4.4.3 comes out... What should I do to update to the Android 4.4.3?
3) What is the need of getting Gapps when flashing a custom ROM? Aren't Gapps already present in Android?
4) Any other drawback of installing a Custom ROM?
Don't forget to search. Every thing you need to know is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47369234

Okay searching XDA is the best way to find out these answers, but I'll help you
1.) Using Xposed framework will stop you from receiving otas
2.) If you're running a custom ROM when 4.4.3 drops, all you will need to do is flash any 4.4.3 ROM that drops to update. Believe me, when it drops it won't be long before some 4.4.3 custom ROMs surface.
3.) Most custom ROMs do not include gapps. You'll need to flash those separately. Read the ops of each ROM you're interested in to find out if they're included.
4.) You have a Nexus, they're made to be rooted. Lol

If you're using a custom ROM though like CM, 4.4.3 doesn't really matter. Since it's a custom ROM it won't be releasing an update at the same time as google. It would be whenever CM releases their update that's based on 4.4.3. Anyone should feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though. I'm fairly new to everything as well.
I have not unlocked my bootloader.. And have many things on my device [Been Using It For Over A Month]
I have many apps, contacts, app save files [games], etc.
Will I need to re-download all the apps again? Is there any way i could preserve this data? What all can I preserve.
Also, any Custom ROM suggestion. I liked Paranoid Android, but it releases a new beta like every week... This means that I'll have to flash it again? Leading to data loss every time?

Use helium to backup. We will not suggest you a rom.

Why no suggestion?

Hi,
No need to flash obviously all the new update if you don't want unless there is an important bug fixed or a new feature you want. You can dirty flash (wipe only Dalvik cache and cache partition) so you won't loose your data.

Because it turns into something like "best" rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/best-rom-kernel-threads-t2477889... And you will have 20 different suggestions depending of each users needs, it will not help you more.
You need to test by yourself, read the OP of the rom threads to see the features, issue, videos, etc... read the last pages of the rom thread for feedbacks.
So.. I just want customizations to make android fun.. Paranoid would be fine?

Hi all, I have had HTC One M8 for a month now and I just love it.
The only thing I would like to know that if I installed a custom rom would my phone function better?
I honestly got sick of installing roms on my old Galaxy S3, and every time I find something that I don't like in that rom or a bug.
Please help me deciding.

Just because you root doesn't mean you need to install a custom rom.
Rooting and keeping stock ROM will allow you to tweak the stock rom to your liking. You can use any number of tools like the Xposed mods, tasker scripts, themers, etc. The possibilities are endless.
I have always rooted and tweaked the stock ROMS until late in the device life when I won't be getting the next version of Android. Then I load a custom ROM.

To me, the biggest advantage of rooting is removing bloatware (apps you don't want.) There's no need to install a custom ROM if you don't want to do so but there are advantages to custom ROMs, several already have much of the bloat removed.
They probably won't make your phone function better.

Very good point, I love how responsive my phone is, and I also like the way the stock rom feels and looks. Now I will consider rooting it.

So is it easy to remove Verizon pre-installed apps if I rooted my phone?

If you are keeping the stock ROM do NOT remove the bloatware if it is a system file. (Most of them are) If you remove them you will not be able to take the OTA updates from your carrier until you restore them. You are better off disabling them or using Titanium Backup to Freeze them. That way they are easily reversed so you can take the OTA update.

I used to crack flash back on my Galaxy Nexus. I had the M8 for about a month before I rooted and S'Offed. I'm hesitant to flash a full custom ROM as of yet because stock plus Xposed is keeping me extremely happy. For me, the Xposed framework and modules is such a great setup because it allows me to pick and choose which tweaks I want.
Was gonna remain stock till I downloaded an xposed mod that messed up my wifi (possibly due to having a feature another xposed module was handling turned on) . Instead of reflashing and adding all the tweaks and flash zip to a stock ROM, I went ahead and flashed cleanrom which is basically debloated with all the tweaks/mods I already previously had and wanted.
Cleanrom plus the xposed modules like sense6 toolbox, gravity box, XSense, etc make staying stock or stock-ish a very glamorous option
Sounds like what you want is some good old fashioned CleanROM :good:

Edit just read the most recent post right after posting this. Oh well. You'll love CleanROM though. Had it for about a month (practically a record for me and roms) and I love it. Gpe is also pretty stable may try that it he future 'cause I heart aosp but other than that I see no reason to use anything but CleanROM

The Cyanogenmod nightlies are good - the 6/16 version did not have any problems.
