Hi i want to know how to install the root ics rom for my nexus s without losing any apps if possible n successfuly. Will features like face unlock come with the root ics rom too?
Thankkksss
You can use titanium backup to backup your apps however titanium does not support ics yet. And most of the features are on the current version of the ics ask however face unlock is not yet on there...supposedly the next one will.

Hey Folks,
I'm pretty new to this Rooting and Roming of Android devices so please bare with me if this sounds like a stupid question.
Last weekend I roots my nexus s i9023, installed ClockworkMod 3.x and Axura NSE Rom ( Gingerbread 2.3.3 ) with netarchy 1.2.5cfs Kernel. Everything went perfectly but now I'm being badgered by the Auto Update to in OTA update 2.3.4. The Nexus S is on Vodafone NL.
My question being a nooby is can I go ahead and let the OTA update install on reboot ( will it have any effect on my rooted device, recovery image or custom rom? ) ?
If not, how do I get to 2.3.4? Do I wait for Axura 2.3.4 update? Or is there a way to disable Auto Update from bugging me every couple of hours.
Any help would be great,
Neil
I don't think you will have able to update to 2.3.4 its because you flashed clockwork an you have a custom rom. I suggest trying out another rom that has a 2.3.4 Core. Also axura nse is no longer supported by master so you might not see an update on it.

You will lose root and recovery if you install the OTA. Not hard to root again, but just install a custom 2.3.4 rom

Hi,
I am currently trying on new ROMs (ICS for Nexus S i9020t).
I was wondering if I can back up my apps before trying new ROMs and restore them on the newly installed ROMs.
Can this be done? I just want to backup the apps, like gmail, clock settings, gentle alarm (w/settings) etc.
Use titanium

Yes you can.
Use Titanium Backup to do this.
You can find it here.
Hi,
I'm a DHD user, I bought this phone to my brother..
The stock ROM is awsome and pretty perfect (and damn ultra fast).. but still I miss some functions of rooted devices..
Is it possible to root without installing a different ROM?
If I'll just follow the guide in the top and won't flash new ROM, will it erase data or wipe anything?
Thanks,
Yarden.
P.S
Do you also think that the stock ROM is good enough or custom ROMs has some amazing stuffs that I'm missing?
Cuz in our DHD, stock is on GB with crappy sense 3.0 so improving to custom brings me to ICS with sense 4.0 and full tweaks so dumb the guy who keeps warranty swear..
But here I already have the latest thing (JB isn't stable enough to jump4it), so.....
Just ask yourself do you really need root. If not then stick with stock. If yes you can have root on stock as well, doesn't have to be custom Rom, but you will have to unlock bootloader first and then flash boot.img, just follow the guides.
Or... You can try Viper Rom which is on Sense 4.1 and it can be same as stock if you don't apply any tweaks, or fully customised. Your choice.

Oh thanks for your reply.
I guess my answer is no, I don't need root so much,
Honestly I just wanted to delete the at&t crap that installed and perhaps few apps that needs root for expert moves.. (like Google Now)
I assume from your saying that it could harm the device or its efficiency, so no, any way its for my old brother who knows pretty much nothing about this game..
Thanks.

Hi all Just joinned up and also just got myself a Asus infinity TF700T
So far I have charged it done firmware update and rooted it.
I would like to know what is the best / stable rom out at moment. Also overclocking options.
Thanks
A good stock option is CleanROM 2.3,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919851
however if you're looking for an AOSP rom I'd go with the CM10 Nightlies
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957660
There are overclocking options for both courtesy of Clemsyn's overclocked kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950039
Personally I'm on CM10 and I'm waiting for a modified Clemsyn kernel since I'm also using the Data2SD mod.
Yeh was thinking about CM10. I had CM on my acer a500 and have it on my cellphone and find it nice and easy to use.

Are you unlocked? You need to unlock, then you could fastboot flash either TWRP or CWM recovery. I like TWRP and I'm on CleanROMv2.3 and Clemsyn's OC kernel v22. Performance is fantastic and everything works. The CM ROMs all have something not working 100% yet, from what I can see, but it's really whatever you're more comfortable with. CleanROM is pre-rooted so all you would have to do is get your custom recovery. Please DO NOT USE Rom Manager to install CWM recovery (I would avoid it altogether). Several experienced users have hard bricked (no coming back) their devices that way.
Yeh got it sorted and not unlocked.
Removed SD card and put just the ICS firmware off asus page on it. Tablet is on and jelly bean running I put SD card in and couple of seconds later a popup comes up to do a update / downgrade. So I run it and restarts and now running ICS again. Seen the firmware update popup so did not click it. Then install Root OTA Keeper then update to JB. Now have rooted JB with superuser and checked with root checker.
As long as you are locked you are already on the best rom available to you.
yeh not to worried about updating to custom ROM. just going to install a launcher and cleaning out some of the stock apps.
What launcher would you recommend?
GO Launcher HD for Pad or GO Launcher EX or other?

I think the best is Go Launcher HD for Pad, other may favorate Nova, Apex etc... and Go Launcer EX is a full blown mature launcher for Phone only. I believe soon Go Launcher HD will have the same features as Go Launcher EX.(this one is the best with thousand of plugin and themes).
i would stay @ stock launcher it s the most reliable one or trebuchet launcher
Hi okantomi
Have gone and done what you posted.
TWRP and CleanROMv2.3 and about to do Clemsyn's OC kernel
Hey guys,
I used to run cm10 nightlies on my tf300 but have lately been running Jellybean Hydro. I have been dissatisfied with the performance of my tablet and want to try cm10 again now that it is in stable release. Back when I was installing Hydro I read that once I install the Jellybean stock firmware for Hydro I am stuck running roms with stock firmware or at least it will be hard to run non stock roms...?
Is it possible for me to go from my current state to cm10? Are there any extra steps I need if it's possible?
Thank you in advance for any information!
cm10 JB compatible

Back up apps with titanium backup, nand backup, full wipe recommended. Flash CM 10 Flash Gapps, reboot, restore titanium profit.
Data wipe is almost no brainer if you ask me if you're moving to different ROM
You can use titanium backup to backup your apps and data but please don't restore system apps because those can cause problems

The info provided above is good!
The info about jb stock roms relates to the bootloader. The roms we use here are either for jb or ics bootloader and in general if you maintain the correct bootloader you are good. That said, always read the op about how to install for your own safety and piece of mind unless told otherwise.
