[Q] going to cm10 from Jellybean Hydro? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I used to run cm10 nightlies on my tf300 but have lately been running Jellybean Hydro. I have been dissatisfied with the performance of my tablet and want to try cm10 again now that it is in stable release. Back when I was installing Hydro I read that once I install the Jellybean stock firmware for Hydro I am stuck running roms with stock firmware or at least it will be hard to run non stock roms...?
Is it possible for me to go from my current state to cm10? Are there any extra steps I need if it's possible?
Thank you in advance for any information!

Back up apps with titanium backup, nand backup, full wipe recommended. Flash CM 10 Flash Gapps, reboot, restore titanium profit.

Data wipe is almost no brainer if you ask me if you're moving to different ROM
You can use titanium backup to backup your apps and data but please don't restore system apps because those can cause problems

The info provided above is good!
The info about jb stock roms relates to the bootloader. The roms we use here are either for jb or ics bootloader and in general if you maintain the correct bootloader you are good. That said, always read the op about how to install for your own safety and piece of mind unless told otherwise.

How do I get back to stock kernel?

I am running stock jelly bean rom with air kernel and I want to get back to stock kernel. How would I do that?
Just flash your rom again, no wiping required

Ok so I just flash the last OTA update I had which was the 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 update?
This one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736645
No, you flash the full ROM. Not just the OTA update.
Where is the full jelly bean 4.1.1 rom? Sorry I couldnt find it.
And are you positive this process doesnt wipe that?
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Make sure to grab the correct one. Flash with fastboot. Obviously your bootloader has to be unlocked, which I imagine is already the case.
Nothing should be lost as long as you don't wipe data.
Ah so this is what I have to do?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572307
And yes my bootloader is unlocked.
Btw which kernel do you suppose is the closest to stock kernel? The reason why I want to do this is because I wanted to see just how does the stock kernel compare with air kernel but it seems like it isnt as simple a thing as I thought it would be to go back to stock kernel.
as i know there is no stock kernel standalone instalation package. So the only way to get back to stock kernel is to flash the whole ROM again.
For my purposes showed as the best kernel thalamus kernel.
Thanks for all the info guys. I have one more question just for future information purposes. Do you get an OTA update if you are on custom kernel?

I just re-uploaded the ROM with stock kernel on my thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881858
That will reset your kernel to stock. Sorry I don't have a separate kernel zip to flash.
If I install my compete ROM again (its Cyanogenmod), do I have to install the Gapps again too?

[Q] Going from CM10 Alpha to CM10/Official JB Release

I'm currently using ICS CleanROM and thought I'd give CM10 a go since i'm impatient waiting for the official HTC release.
As I understand it, my titanium backups will not work correct? Or if they do, i'll at least have to reset my home screen since now i'd be on the new JB launcher?
With that, I only want to have to 'start over' once, so if I go to CM10, does anyone have any idea if my settings/backups will carry over the the 'official' JB release for the HOX?
Thanks in advance and i'd appreciate any other tips on going from CleanROM to one of the JB ROMs....

only restore apps + data. never restore system apps.

Newest/Easiest way to root while on ics?

I see so many threads about rooting while on jellybean. What do i need to do to root on ics? The plan is to root and then use a custom jb rom. Thanks for your help.
Any help with my n00b post would be great.
Look for the debugfs method in the Dev section. That works on ICS but not jb as loopholes are closed on jb.

You can't use a JB rom custom or stock while you have ICS bootloader and updating to JB may remove root ( mine didn't ) and will certainly remove a custom recovery ( CWM or Twrp ). You have to unlock to install custom rom or recovery so if you are sure you wish JB custom rom why not update to JB and start from there?
Unlock, custom recovery for JB ( Twrp is my choice ), custom rom flashed with Twrp. I have not flashed any custom roms for the TF300 that weren't already rooted.
Good Luck!:good:
Yep, I am probably going to just go ahead and upgrade. I thought when I read that there was an advantage to being on ICS (for custom ROM purposes) but it doesn't seem to be the case. So I will get fully updated and then go from there.
Thanks!

The possible advantages are NVFlash, cm9, cm10, etc. At this time no CM, AOSP, AOKP, Paranoid Android, and so on for the JB bootloader. Everything ( rom ) is based on the stock kernel. It is being worked on but not ready for release yet. The dreaded i/o issue on JB and probably others.
If I were in your shoes I'd stay on ICS for now and wait a while for things to sort out. On ICS I'd run CM10 or Hydro for ICS. Those are just my feelings.
Take your time and look around a bit more if you have any doubts.
If you are ready then by all means go for it!
:good:Good Luck!
Thanks for all your help. I did go ahead and make the jump to JB. Currently on CleanROM but have no idea which of the "big 3" I should run. I suppose I will have to try them all and see. Wish there was a good pro/con list of each ROM that I could reference.

The biggest con of running JB is that Adobe has removed support for flash from JB in anticipation of forcing everyone to go use HTML5. You also cannot use the NVFlash method of backing up some crucial files as a safety net (the developers claim that using NVFlash makes your device brickproof).
I am still waiting for the kinks in JB to be worked out before I switch. I'm on ICS bootloader still and I can run a JB custom ROM (Baked Blackbean) just fine, so I can have my cake and eat it too. I can try out the JB changes without making a full commitment.
Just my two cents.

[Q] General questions before I start flashing ROMs

Just got a GT-P3110 and I am extremely unhappy with the stock ROM. I'm trying to decide which JB ROM to install and any thoughts would be appreciated.
But I also have been reading around many threads and I have some questions.
I have seen somewhere that CMR version 6.x.x.x is supposed to be for JB ROMs only, is that true? Does this mean it won't work with ICS ROMs?
Will I have to reflash CMR version 5.x.x.x before the backup of the stock ROM, I made in CMR version 5.5.0.4, can be restored?
Can I load a JB ROM with CMR version 5.x.x.x and then use Odin to install the one step CMR/root/busybox tar.md5 file? Or will I not even be able to flash a JB ROM without CMR version 6.x.x.x?
Why am I having such a hard time finding Odin-flashable versions of CMR version 6.x.x.x?

Can i have inverts on stock jelly bean?

guys i need help, i have stock jelly bean 4.1.1 on my nexus s, and i wanted to have that black bean or inverted messaging, contacts and calendar for my phone, i tried using someone's help and i ended up restoring my phone twice, once i replaced the original one and then used twrp to flash it, but everytime it said messaging has stopped unfortunately need help regarding this please, if someone can help me get a few pointers how to replace my apps with inverted ones, hurts my eyes too since i have weak eyes
PS yes i'm rooted
Why don't you just flash blackbean or some other 4.2.2 rom that supports dark-toggled gapps and system apps? What's hindering you?
