Can i have inverts on stock jelly bean? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

guys i need help, i have stock jelly bean 4.1.1 on my nexus s, and i wanted to have that black bean or inverted messaging, contacts and calendar for my phone, i tried using someone's help and i ended up restoring my phone twice, once i replaced the original one and then used twrp to flash it, but everytime it said messaging has stopped unfortunately need help regarding this please, if someone can help me get a few pointers how to replace my apps with inverted ones, hurts my eyes too since i have weak eyes
PS yes i'm rooted

Why don't you just flash blackbean or some other 4.2.2 rom that supports dark-toggled gapps and system apps? What's hindering you?

well because they're not probably as stable as the stock rom? is what i've read probably ... if it is then i'll give it a go, and i have twrp by the way, it's the easiest to work with in my opinion, can it be done using twrp? i've had bad experience with cwm

[Q] going to cm10 from Jellybean Hydro?

Hey guys,
I used to run cm10 nightlies on my tf300 but have lately been running Jellybean Hydro. I have been dissatisfied with the performance of my tablet and want to try cm10 again now that it is in stable release. Back when I was installing Hydro I read that once I install the Jellybean stock firmware for Hydro I am stuck running roms with stock firmware or at least it will be hard to run non stock roms...?
Is it possible for me to go from my current state to cm10? Are there any extra steps I need if it's possible?
Thank you in advance for any information!
cm10 JB compatible

Back up apps with titanium backup, nand backup, full wipe recommended. Flash CM 10 Flash Gapps, reboot, restore titanium profit.
Data wipe is almost no brainer if you ask me if you're moving to different ROM
You can use titanium backup to backup your apps and data but please don't restore system apps because those can cause problems

The info provided above is good!
The info about jb stock roms relates to the bootloader. The roms we use here are either for jb or ics bootloader and in general if you maintain the correct bootloader you are good. That said, always read the op about how to install for your own safety and piece of mind unless told otherwise.

[Q] Incompatible apps after installing CM10

Hi,
I recently installed CyanogenMod 10 on my HTC Sensation.
Since then, I can't install several useful apps for me from the Google PlayStore, and I get a message "this version is incompatible with your device" (I had the same apps on my phone when I was on a stock Android ICS).
I tried to modify the build.prop file of my phone to make it look like a Samsung nexus S, following a tutorial I found. Then I wiped the playstore cache, rebooted, but no change.
What can I do ?
Thank you for your help !

What apps are you looking at? That gives us a start to figure out what the problem is.
Also, what version of CM10 did you install? Bruce's Kang? The Official Nightly? Bruce's kang of CM10.1?
Did you change the DPI? That often causes the play store error you are talking about.
If all else fails do a full wipe and start over. Something might just be screwy in your install. But this is not a super common problem on CM10. So we can probably isolate what you are doign differently and fix it.
I mostly want to download French apps i used to have on my HTC before i installed CM10 (Société Générale, Qype, Allociné...)
I have Bruce's CM10 version "10-20130103-bruce2728-pyramid"... I don't know if it's the reference you were looking for. I downloaded it on this page : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782009
I haven't change any DPI and never heard of something like this. Can you tell me more, if it has a chance to solve the problem ?
It could just be that those apps aren't ready for JB yet... Search for those apps + Jelly Bean in Google and see if there are any results saying anything about whether it's compatible or not, if they're working on updating them so they are, etc...
All the apps i'm refering to were working on my phone when i had a stock Android Jelly Bean.
Only since i installed CM10 they are shown as incompatible...

There is no stock jelly bean for the Sensation. Ice cream sandwich is as far as stock development went.
So you weren't running stock jb.
Changing DPI would have only broken compatibility. If you don't know what it is then you didn't mess with it.
I assume you set up cm10 to run in French. If not maybe that's it?

You're right. I was running a stock Android 4 ICS. My mistake ! And the apps were working with this version.
But a friend has a galaxy s3 with jb, and the apps work on his phone. So they are actually compatible with jelly bean.
I have CM10 in French.

Maybe someone else running Bruce's ROM can try searching these apps in playstore and see if they have a similar problem.
Running a DK version of 4.2.1 they show and would install from the playstore for me...
Have you reflashed the phone and tried this? I'm not sure what Bruce's ROM tags the phone as by default but it would appear either through a change made or the ROM it's not flagging as a compatible device.
I would have suspected DPI (image size) change but we seem to have cleared that as an issue already.

I tested the ones you mentioned on CM 10 official nightly and they install as they should.
HTC Sensation XE
Does anything else install from the play store or is it only the French stuff?
Maybe you had something go screwy during install of either the ROM or the gapps?

[Q] Need Guidence to Update to 4.2,currenty using official JB leak 1(4.1.2)

Hi All
I am new to custom roms,so have very little idea about it. I am currently using official JB leakhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092107) on my Indian Atrix 2( Originally MB865 after the JB Update ME865) I want to update to 4.2, so can anyone please provide me a step by step guideline on how to do it. I want a stable 4.2 with most of the features. Any help is highly appreciated.:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Thanks in advance
I suggest you try a kexec ROM and find out if you can boot it up.
If you get black screen, you gotta go to non kexec ones which have ui tear bug.
So first of all, install bmm from playstore.
Do the edits mentioned in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115715
MAKE A BACKUP if you want.
Then flash a kexec ROM ( like liquidsmooth, avatar, Aokp etc)
If it doesn't boot up and you get black screen then FORGET about kexec ROMs.
Fxz to stock ics ( just like you flashed jb leak via RSD , but its going to be ics fxz file)
Download non kexec one like PA, PAC or cm10.1 without kexec. Bmm again, edits, flash. Enjoy!
If you don't understand anything, ask before you do it.
You mess up stuff, it's on you.

[Q] Custom ROM, Custom Recovery & Custom Kernel

Hello!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S Advance i9070.
I just customized it from 2.3.6 stock, to Light JellyBean v1.2. I use CoCore-E-8.6.4 as custom kernel.
I don't know what to do, the phone is very slow. Sometimes it freezes for a very long time, it freezes in the menus, it freezes on google play, etc. Sometimes it's for a short period of time, but sometimes it crashes the whole ROM and the phone reboots... :crying::crying:
What should I do? On 2.3.6 the phone worked like a charm...
Please teach me how to make it better (4.1.2 of course). Tell me what is the best ROM, best KERNEL, best everything for S Advance i9070?
Thank you in Advance!

I want to ask, if I install an AOSP based ROM, can I install afterwards some of the Samsung's "touchwiz" apps that really matter?

Thanks for the answer. If I could have done it, it would have been great. It might still work, if I find the apps in .apk, it might just work, like an ordinary app. Does S-Voice belong to Samsung or Google? That's the only app that I want, I think. And I have it in .apk. I also have AccuWheather and Samsung Apps in .apk. I would lose Kies(I think), but the software is crap, backup and restore works only 70%. But there are more softwares out there that can do what Kies does, only better. So, I don't know, it's something to think about...

[Q] need to go back to stock ROM

Okay so I wanted to update to lollipop on my inspire 4g because i wanted to use hangouts dialer. Turns out, the CM 12.1 nightlies are highly unstable and sometimes take forever to boot. Most importantly, hangouts keep crashing on CM 12.1 on my inspire and I am not able to make phone calls to phone numbers or to other google users (audio/video) - no problems with using hangouts for chatting/gtalk.
So, I want to go back to 2.3.5 stock where i started. That does not support hangouts dialer, but this CM 12.1 neither - so i would like to roll back to a stable stock ROM.
The problem is, the stock ROM update (RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_Cingular_US_3.20.502.63_Radio_12.69c.60.29U_26.09.13.17_M_release_335423_signed) keeps crashing and fails to roll back.
So, I tried flashing the zip (PD98IMG_Inspire_S-ON_FactoryRestore_GB_1.07) from TWRP 2.8.6.1, but that fails too.
How do I get back to something stable and working? I already wasted at least 30 hours in past 10 days or so. :crying:
Look at our other thread
Thanks Markoll, locking the bootloader did the magic! Now I need a 4.0+ ROM to run Hangouts Dialer or need a Hangouts Dialer ZIP or APK that I can flash on 2.3.5. Any suggestions?

i have a mixed feeling about it. 4.2.2 is cool, but it hogs more battery than 2.3.5. And the main purpose behind installing 4.0+ ROM was to enable hangouts dialer. Turns out, i am able to place a call through hangouts dialer, but the call freezes many a times and the app crashes. And I do not receive a call through hangouts at all. So, my purpose is not served. Thinking about going back to stock 2.3.5 now unless you have a better suggestion. thanks for following up!
I too went to original stock for old times sake...it is much more snappier..hehe.. But I then flashed to cm 11 as all the apps I love require 4.0+. Sigh, idk
