It's as close to microsoft office as I've seen on android. Holy cow, even ctrl+a, ctrl+c, and ctrl+v work. You can even control the page layouts, fonts, color, etc. I mean, everything is there.
And it's only 99 cents!
I don't understand why it's not mentioned more. The developers obviously put a lot of thought into this very useful app.
Note: I own quickoffice HD, doc2go, thinkfree, and office suit pro 5, in addition to kingsoft. The point is I know what I'm talking about.

Interesting..considering its more known for its Chinese translate programs..and its kingsoft office suit for the Chinese pc market..

I noticed some reviews in the Android Market that say that the spreadsheet doesn't do formulas.
If this is correct, that's a big omission.
Could you please try a couple of formulas to see if this is true?
Thanks,
Eric

Will do.
Before I do this, just so you know that there is no 1 perfect office app for android yet. What I do is I use a combo of apps for my needs. For example, thinkfree has the best excel spreadsheet out there. Don't even try to argue with me. It is the only one that displays everything in an excel spreadsheet, even those bubble comments you put in as well as arrows and stuff and photos. Check it out.

Thinkfree's word sucks, though. It doesn't even have wordwrap. Your words will be cut off right in the middle of the word so that half the word is on one line and the other in the next line.
Kingsoft's word seems to be the best.
Office suite pro 5's powerpoint seems to be the best. I'm still testing them out.
Added by edit.
Just tested. While it will display the formula results correctly if you just open up a file pre-edited. But it will not allow you to add a formula. So, for example if you create an xls sheet on your pc with "=5+2" in one of the cells and then save it and transfer to your TF, kingsoft will show "7" in that cell. But if you use your TF to put in "=5+2" kingsoft will show it as "=5+2" in that cell. If you try to open up the cell that had "=5+2" from the pc, it will say "unsupported data type".
Again, I use a combo of apps for my needs. Thinkfree has the most complete xls support. Kingsoft has the most complete doc support. And office suite pro 5 has the most complete ppt support, although I sometimes also use do2go for ppt.

Kingsoft may not be the bext XLS choice, but it's Word module sounds excellent, and since the price is certainly right, I'll get it. Thinkfree XLS support does look impressive, though. Between Kingsoft, Polaris, and QuickOfffice Pro HD, I'll make do.
Thanks for your help.

Just a warning for you. There is a bug in Polaris that randomly kills your document. Since it strikes at random, its not very well documented. Furthermore, for some damn reason, the document you created, worked on, and saved will sometimes only show up half way if you're trying to print. Again, this strikes at random, so no doubt most people have not experienced this. I'd stay away from Polaris just to be safe.
PS Ruined one of my presentations.

There's a bug in the market app that force closes when you're trying to install certain apps. There's a way around this. Go to market.android.com and install from there.
Regarding that bug about Polaris, I think it also corrupts file formats.. I wrote a document on docs2go, it was fine for the three days I used it, but I decided to open it with Polaris so I could check how many pages it turned out to be. Lo and behold, all I did was save the file before turning off Polaris, boom, next time I attempted to open it, "unsupported file format."
Anyway, at least I learned to save my files in Google Docs now.

Have you tried thinkfree?
Look, android devs have only had half a year to work on an office app for android tablets. Microsoft has ha like 20 years to perfect their office.
You need to use a combo of office apps for your needs.
For example, I use thinkfree office for excel because it's the most complete. Check out the attached screenshots of thinkfree showing a microsoft excel file.
I use kingsoft for word processing because it's got the most friendly interface.
For powerpoint, I go back and forth between them all.

I am a proud Xoom owner/user but when it comes to available office suites I feel very neglected. I started a thread over at the Xoom forum comparing some of the main features of three major (tablet optimized) office suites.
The official Asus Transformer website states that it will be shipped with the Polaris Suite. Has anyone tried it yet? I know it will be next to impossible to get the apk to run it on the Xoom so if anyone wants to add their experience on the Transformer? Here is the link to the PowerPoint presentation that I used to evaluate the compatibility.
Your help is really appreciated!
it doesn't work to bad.. everything displays apart from the line of symbol text and the the page numbers just show up as hash. The speed of the app is fine in fact is is almost instant.

It has some functions that most other office apps don't have - insert table for example. Even better the table functionality is very feature rich meaning you can do things like merge cells.
I have had it crash on me, and when it did so, it lost all of the work I had done - it would be nice if they did a periodic save.
Speed in use is fine.
I'm comparing it to various paid for office apps I have had on the iPad, and it compares favourably so far.
A question is, is it better than Google docs?
I posted a comparison between (for now Word and PowerPoint) Office Suites in the Xoom forum. Bottom line is that none of the currently available apps should be considered perfect. Hopefully the competition coming up with all the Honeycomb tablets will spark a flood of well-developed apps.
I have found that the doc/xls files saved with polaris suite won't open with openoffice or libre office on my ubuntu 10.10 box, which is a shame, as I really like the functionality of it otherwise. In fact, I don't even think they opened with QuickOffice, which I installed next and, despite its more limited functionality, is reasonably good on my transformer!

I wonder if they open in Word. Such suite should have at least RTF. DOC/XLS are very bad choices especially since there are several very different versions of DOC/XLS formats out there.

Has anyone been able to get google docs integration work on on Polaris?
I can download a document from my google docs. However it will only save it locally and it won't upload it back to google docs. I also tried creating a new document and pushing it up to google docs and that also failed.

If you have the Google Docs app installed, then within Polaris you can click-and-hold on a locally saved file, choose Send -> Docs and it will pass it to the Docs app for uploading.
But that just adds it to your Google docs, and doesn't overwrite and previous doc of the same name.
Damn I was really hoping for decent google docs support. I use google docs alot and not having read write acces is a pain. Does anyone know if Docs to go or quick office has read wirte google docs support and have tried on the xformer?

The way LibreOffice doesn't open my Polaris file is clearly an LO bug: it crashes trying to do a division by 0.
I'm not allowed to post a URL on this forum but I can tell you that it is bug 40686 in the freedesktop.org bugzilla.
Your best bet is to get quickoffice and doc2go. Between polaris, quickoffice, and doc2go, you should be able to do everything you want to do on-the-go.

I REALLY dislike this Polaris app. My first real-world experience with it was today and I was taking notes on it. First thing that bother me is that it randomly indented the first bullet in a list and wouldn't unindent it. Its features aren't that great and are pretty clunky to get around.
BUT, the worst part and a HUGE issue is: no auto-save!!!
I was typing my notes, closed the TF for a while, opened it back up and my notes were GONE. The page was blank!
Point is: Where can I get a REAL Office app for honeycomb? I'll pay if I have to.
not saving is just a bad habit, period, i wouldnt blame that on the app.

Great sentiment. Fact is, you can never predict what's going to happen, so it's very easy just to blame it on him. Maybe an answer to his question next time?
Documents To Go, QuickOffice, and ThinkFree, are a couple of recommended ones, though I've never used any.
In my experience, documents saved with polaris office don't open in anything else (except perhaps, MS Office apps, which I have not tried); quickoffice fails to open them, as does openoffice and libreoffice.
This is completely unacceptable to me, so despite the nice UI and so on, I use quickoffice when I need to edit docs (though its far from ideal, and doesn't integrate that well with the keyboard dock).

This same thing happened to me. I typed some sentences in an existing document, the TF locked in power save and then when I unlocked, the document reverted back to the original document with the new sentences gone.
Just based on this, it isn't ready for prime time. This has nothing to do with the user.
just wait till Softmakers SoftOffice comes out for Android. their windows mobile version of Word was as featureful as Ms word.

Basically exactly what happened to me. Was in class, started typing, then listened to my teachers lecture. Screen turned off. Turned back on to continue typing, all work was gone.
Have there been any new updates in the mobile word processing field?
Anyone notice you can't copy paste the text you have typed into Polaris office into anywhere else on the tablet? Like, you CAN copy paste within the application itself, but if you copy something and then try to paste it into, say, gmail, or something, it won't paste. It has its own clipboard or something. Very annoying.
I've been using "Jota Text Editor" because I can use the keyboard dock to hit ctrl+s or ctrl+o etc to save and open a document, but unfortunately the dev hasn't added support for bolding or italicizing, etc.
I wish in Polaris I could ctrl+b and ctrl+i and ctrl+u to activate and deactivate bold on things I highlight, that is a big thing for me. If this other text editor can register ctrl+o and such to open a file why can't Polaris?
Jota still has the same copy paste problem as Polaris however, but it is more user-friendly for me. It's like using Notepad on Windows, just a simple text editor.

The beta of TextMaker for Android works very well in retaining document formats from Word & having a decent set of features, it is just very slow at the moment & not ready for release. I don't think it will be long though.
I have tried all the Office apps I can find, SoftMaker are the best for WP, not sure on spreadsheet. QuickOffice has a nice interface but screw up Word documents.
You can always just go to docs.google.com in the browser and use that, it works fine and has all these features.
the one flaw it has is that it cant save word 07 or docx files, docstogo can. But docstogo is to simple and cant insert pictures. i still like polaris a little better.
I was liking Polaris, until I discovered that you can't save a google doc back to the cloud without deleting it and re-uploading it (wiping out the revision history and any sharing settings). Are there any editors that handle this better (other than the crappy official gdocs app or the website)?
First, sorry for my poor English. Hope you'll understand me.
Been holding this sweet device for about 5 days and now I want to share with you all some apps I'm using. I've checked them so they'll mostly work fine on your TF (there's some FC but rarely). Please fix me if there's any mistake.

App#3
1. ACV - Comic Reader
Work fine.
I installed this to read some compressed comic but I prefer Manga Watcher over it so I extract the zip files and use that instead. (FYI: Manga Watcher HD will be release soon).
Some like Mango, but I used it and still like Manga Watcher the best, just my opinion.
2. AdFree
Require ROOT.
Work fine, not 100% though.
I use this to get rid of the ads in File Manager HD, it works so I think it'll work for other apps.
3. Adobe Reader
Of coz it works but not impressive. Slow and nothing special.
Just installed it when I first bought the TF and haven't removed it yet.
I installed ezPDFReader and RepliGo Reader later. They're greater than the other PDF Readers. and I found out RepliGo Reader is the best, it's fast, it's smooth, that's why it's best.
4. Advanced Task Killer
Require ROOT.
Work well.
5. AVG Antivirus Free version
Don't know if it works well because my TF is rooted so when I scan it says to remove the Super User.
6. Barcode Scanner
Work great.
7. Battery Monitor Widget
Require ROOT.
The Current Widget doesn't work for me so I use this and it's cool. You can track the consumer, how long to charge from 0->100% and how long it'll drop from 100%->0%,.. any many more, check it yourself.
8. Café
Just a Vietnamese news reader You needn't care
9. Camera360
Yes, one of the greatest camera apps. You'll have tons of fun with it.
10. ColorNote
I've been using this since I still have the HD2 in my hand (now I sold it to buy this TF ). I'd say it's the best on 2.x device but maybe not on 3.x. Anyway, it's cool because you can choose color for your note and drag it out on the desktop screen.
11. Dictionary of English Oxford
12. Dolphin Browser HD
I use stock browser most the time. But there're times it couldn't download (like filesonic.com) so I switch to Dolphin and it works great.
And there're times the stock browser close immediately without saying anything, no warning, no fc... :-s I don't know why and it's keep happening lots today. Dolphin is the choice in this case.
13. DroidIris
Search images on google, bing and some other sites.
Used this on HD2 and now on TF.
Work FANTASTIC!!
The thumbs are a bit blur (because this app is not for tablet) but check it out, you'll find it greater than using browser, go to google.com and search for images.
14. Dropbox
Use this to share some important files with my PC
Work fine!
15. ES File Explorer
Used this on HD2. It have rooted options (for Cyanogen and one other - don't remember the name).
It can browse file on LAN, FTP...
It works GREAT!
But then I knew File Manager HD, ES File Explorer became my 2nd choice
16. Evernote
Installed this because some site said it's GREAT.
It works, yes, very nice.
17. ezPDF Reader
As I said above, this is greater than the Adobe Reader and some other PDF Readers (but I think it's slower than RepliGo). It has the flipping page effect while RepliGo doesn't
18. FPse
PSX emulator
Work FANTASTIC!!!!
I've tested Final Fantasy IX and Yugi Oh! and they works well.
19. Fruit Ninja HD
Needless to say
20. Gõ Tiếng Việt
A Vietnamese Keyboard.
Not optimized for Honeycomb tablet but it's the best on the market at the moment.
Still doesn't support multi-touch, so bad.
21. GPS Status
Check the GPS Status, Signal...
When I first bought my TF, the GPS worked well.
Now I'm in my hometown (300km far from the place I bough it) the GPS doesn't work :| I can't locate my current location, it kept located the previous location... Don't know the reason till now...
22. HD Wallpapers
It works, a bit slower for me.
I use this to download some hi-res wallpaper for this TF.
The wallpaper I'm using now is downloaded using this app. It's big, very big, more than enough for you to set wallpaper.
23. IM+ Pro
Work fine but doesn't have voice and video function. What a waste!
Later I found the .apk files of yahoo messenger and skype (I couldn't search for it on the market). Then this IM+ just stay there I'm using Y!M and Skype instead.
24. JustPictures!
Best images browser ever!!! Can browse pics on your flickr and some others account, and of coz on your device.
Work GREAT!
25. Lịch Việt
A Vietnamese calendar.
Work fine.
26. Locus
GPS app that can use offline.
Work but I'm having problems with my GPS now so I couldn't check much.
27. Manga Watcher
Yeah! My most fav app. Worked GREAT on HD2 and now even GREATER on TF.
You can download tons of manga on the internet (mangafox.com, mangareader.net, blah blah ) and some hentai for the donated version).
You can also copy files from PC and add them into the library to read.
28. Messenger
It's Yahoo Messenger for Android device.
This is the version for 2.x but I installed it and it work well. You can send file, can use video calling (but you can't choose the front camera ) )
29. Mobo Player
I'm using 4 players: Mobo Player, mVideoPlayer, VPlayer and Rock Player.
None of them is the best because there're files they couldn't play while the others could, so I just have to switch between them.
This one can play MKV 720p, but without sub.
30. Moon+ Reader
I don't like the interface and the controls of this app at all. But the pro of this app is it can add OPDS library (if you don't know what OPDS is, just google it)
31. mVideoPlayer
Can play MKV 720p with sub.
32. myColorGuide
Just installed this for fun. It's an Adobe Air app which show you the PANTONE palette
33. NhacCuaTui
An Online Music Player for Vietnamese.
Work fine, sometimes fc (even on 2.x)
34. NhacCuaTui Downloader
Download music from nhaccuatui.com to your device for offline playing
35. PicSay Pro
Work great.
Nothing else to say.
36. Plants vs Zombie HD
It works at the beginning, but if you do anything like increase or decrease volume the screen will turn black, you still hear sound..

Nice! You have a lot of detail here, I appreciate it and I've gone and got a few you mentioned.
#38. QDict Lite-I couldn't find it in the market store or Amazon. Could it be under another name?
LOL-so I'm not the only one getting a black screen with Plants vs Zombies. Twice now and the last time I just let it sit overnight, then it came back to life just fine-strange and I wasn't adjusting the volume...must be more than one thing sitting it off. But, such a fun game!
Thanks again, I like your list and know this took a lot of time-appreciated!
You must search for QDict using google.com, not market, not amazon.
If you can't find it send me an email and I'll send it to you.
My email: [email protected]
Or visit http://mail.ustc.edu.cn/~wchao911/
It's in chinese so use google translate to find out which link is download.
It seems there's a newer version than the one I'm using. Will check later.

For future reference, you could just use AppBrain and it would list all the apps on your phone/tablet rather than going in depth of each app. But the description of every app is pretty cool. Very informative.
Example: http://www.appbrain.com/user/zephiK/apps-on-the-nexus-s
(Not TF101 but you get the idea)

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. What I did is a short summary of apps on my device, what work, what not and what best Because TF uses HC so there're apps won't work or work but not optimized ^^

Yeah when apps aren't made for tablets, they can appear awful because of the size. I would make a AppBrain for my TF101 but I don't have enough apps on it yet that it would even any useful so I didn't bother yet.
fantasticlord,
Thanks for the reply, now I understand why I couldn't find QDict Lite.(s)
What is the best word processor designed for Honeycomb thus far that gives many of the features that MS Word also gives, such as formatting options, spell check, ect.
I'm basically looking for the most complete world processor out there for Honeycomb.
Probably Polaris.. comes with the TF
Documents to GO has been my go-to app since the beginning.
It works flawlessly. Although Polaris looks a lot nicer.
Polaris looks the best but I last I tried I couldn't open a word or spreadsheet document created with it in openoffice or libreoffice (free MS office alternatives), which ruins it for me. I don't know whether they have updated or fixed this issue since I last checked..
Ohh, shoot, I haven't tried that yet. Hmm, I use openoffice on my laptop too, are you saving it in openoffice format or .doc?
I want to save them as .doc files so that I can easily switch between working on my PC with MS Word, and my TF with what ever word processor I end up using.
Have anybody tried Quickoffice Pro HD?

Wondering this as well. I want something as close as to Office as possible
Check out the link in my signature. Trust me, you are not the first one to ask this question. What is not in the review are the online programs like Google Docs and Microsoft Live Office. Both are pretty cool and the latter looks almost exactly like the real office programs!
What about the new thinkfree app?

This is a very neat UI! I just bought it and if I ever find time I will include it in my comparison. It definitely has a lot of potential although it has many shortcomings regarding formatting and TrueType interpretation. PowerPoint ("Show") seems to be affected in particular.

Since you are the guru on this, please, tested and let us know how is it and what is your opinion.
I was looking at it last night and was close to buy the app, but I prefer for you to let us know what you think.
Thank you
This post is very helpful and seems related.
Also: no one has suggested just using Microsoft Word on your desktop/laptop via VPN. I know a couple of people like to do that.
My plan is to write documents using either the onboard application or Google Docs (depending on which app works better and if I am connected), then use something like TeamViewer or Logmein to do the nitty-gritty formatting.
Thank you for the compliment but unfortunately I don't have as much time as I used to I'll do me best though since I want to know myself! I'll update my comparison thread once I did it!

I've tried a few word processing programs as I've looked for something as good as MS Word or Open Office. So far, I've not found anything that can replace these programs. All of them lack certain key features - including google docs, polaris, quick office HD, documents 2 go. I haven't tried thinkoffice yet, but it doesn't look much better. I just now tried MS Live Office, but it wouldn't work on the tab - i got a page that said I needed to use MS Explorer or Firefox to access it. It looks like the most full featured option, but unless we can get past this browser limit, it doesn't matter on the TF.
Polaris office is the best so far, though I haven't tried to open the documents in open office, so I can't speak to that problem. I used QuickOffice HD up until the 3.2 update because copy/paste in polaris was broken.
help with polaris
I need help. I am a new tf owner and I can not get polaris to work. I have tried two google and one box accounts. When I go to set up the account I get an error message saying that it can not connect to the Web server. I was able to connect to one google account once then I added files to it and could no longer connect, same error message. I even tried creating a new box account and that did not work. Any help would be great
I'm not, by any means, a developer or affiliated with AirDroid in any way. <--- definitely advertising
I came across this app earlier today and it is honestly one of the most useful apps I've ever seen. It gives one the potential to view his or her messages, calls, contacts, files and everything else on your phone FROM YOUR PC (or Mac) WEB BROWSER. All you have to do is type in a gateway that you get once you open the app on your phone. It'll take you to a log-in screen, which precedes a "desktop" with all of your phone-everything.
One of the coolest things is that it automatically syncs anything you do within the web browser to your phone and vice-versa. I.E. this is one of the few/only app(s) that will show pictures and full contact details within the web browser. Unlike other apps, if you send or receive messages, your phone logs and conversations will also be updated..as if you never used the app to begin with.
Per usual, you need to be connected to the same wifi network from your phone and PC/Mac/iPad/tablet you'll use to "control" your phone.
There aren't any notable downsides that I've read of or come across. This is simply a solid app that has unlimited potential.

*Just to clarify, I purposely did not put this in the app section. I'm not attempting to solicit the app, only get the word of mouth out and get a discussion going on how you all feel about AirDroid<--- definitely advertising

As a rule of thumb I delete Kies Air at first because it's bloat to me. But I tried using it as often as I'd use AirDroid. Kies Air is just so slow, laggy and well...bloated. At least the web version. I'm the kind of person who loads saves ALL of his texts. So Kies attempts to automatically load EVERYTHING on your phone at once: texts, calls, music, pictures, videos, files. Software-wise it's not necessarily efficient.
To answer the original question- yes. But this is faster and cleaner in every definition of the words. Much simpler UI with faster transfer speeds and won't hog up your bandwidth because it only loads data as needed.
*Edit from here and below:
I guess the reason for the lag behind Kies Air is due to the fact that it runs a Java applet on your web browser. AirDroid runs a much cleaner JavaScript that's linked with HTML5, as I understand.
It's up to you, of course. But after trying both, I don't think there's any actual competition as to which app is significantly faster and more efficient.

Yes, in some aspects Kies Air does the same thing.
However, AirDroid is 12094820394823 times faster! The ease of the interface is amazing. It's a truly innovative application if you do a lot of files transfers through your phone. I use my phone like a thumb drive all the time. This only makes it easier. Sending messages while doing work on my laptop without having to type on the phone's keyboard? Yes please.
I would easily pay for this app.
I would like to see a novel contact manager built into the app. Something that is really functional and efficient. We all know that google contacts and android's address book are both a little weak in the functionality department. If the developers of the app can make such a solid app, I'm sure they can come up with a creative contact manager to integrate into AirDroid.
awesome app, but it would be even more awesome if u can fully utilize your phone (like literally browse through phone functions on a PC) on the web browser

This looks absolutely amazing. They must have spent quite a bit of time to make this app as awesome as it is. And completely free? Crazy.
Which is the only reason I have qualms about it. How can a company invest so much into an app that generates no revenue whatsoever in the Market?
I am always weary of apps that have complete access to all of your personal information (which the app needs to work correctly) and have no obvious avenue for generating revenue.
Maybe I'm missing something here? Are there ads?

Thanks for supporting AirDroid. Actually now, AirDroid also supports remote access to your mobile, even when your mobile is not around and not in the same wifi, you can access it to Web browser by enabling the auto wake up mode in APP.
There should be a screen viewer option.
Nice work

To the first point, Kies is Samsung proprietary. They may do similar things and Airdroid is faster, but for the HTC phones I have, Kies really lacks in the "working" dept.
Secondarily, I am unsure if your statement includes the web-based Google Contacts in desktop browser but I find it quite sufficient for my needs and is obviously synced with Android if you use Google apps.
For every other need, I would imagine the import/export functionality of Google Contacts would make it easily portable to other platforms and then able to be ported back. "Insert simple script here " tacked on to said platform enables full auto sync.
