Hello,
I present you my first application for Android called Lazik/Lazik+!
It's a remote control for Winamp media player compatible with versions 1.6 to 2.2 of Android.
Here are a few screenshots to get an idea of rendering:

Two versions are available, Lazik which is free and supported by ads and Lazik + (1.69 €)
Lazik features:
.playback controls
.playlist
.media library
.search
.display album covers
Lazik+ features:
.no ads
.conection over 3g,edge,...
.fetches missing album covers
.more to come
Possible actions from the madia library have been thought to be as practicable as possible:
- Enqueue at the end of the playlist
- Enqueue just after the current song
- Enqueue just after the current song and play immediately
- Play immediately at the current position in the playlist or at the end of it
To operate Lazik you must install a plugin for Winamp, More information and a tutorial are available at: http://www.bypops.com.
Feel free to comment and report any bugs you might encounter

Sweet! This is the best program to control winamp I've come across. It's 99% perfect! (apart from a few grammatical errors )
Works brilliantly on my rooted Desire!

About grammatical errors, feel free to send me corrections on the support email address if you are motivated enough. I'm french so my English is not perfect ...
Will do so. In the mean time, the only gripe I have with it is that you can't use the scroll bar to advance a track. In fact, it doesn't move at all. Is that a Lazik+ feature only? Also, sometimes it takes a while for the controls to show when you press the album art.
Well, the only things wrong with the text I've found were in the server management: "Search for servers" would sound nicer. As well as Searching for servers when the app is looking for them.
Keep working on the app, it's awesome, but I have a few suggestions if you don't mind, hehe...
Would be nice if the search would use the standard Android search functionality, as it is, it's kinda odd.
Also the colours are quite ghastly. The design isn't bad, but the colour choice is quite off, if you ask me.
But these are just my suggestions, still your app.

The seeking scrollbar should be working, even in the free version. Maybe it's too small for you to be able to drag it. It's size will be changed as some people asked for that.
For the grammatical problems, I'll update it, maybe with your suggestion, or maybe by changing the way it's told.
Concerning the search suggestion, I will consider it but I can't say if I will change it or not. It will depend on how it have to be implemented and if it would prevent some current functionnalities ... The colors have been choosed to integrate in the android UI, because they are colors used in Android. They won't change for the moment as I have some more importants things to implement, but I will try so change them to see what result I can have when I'll have some time to. Maybe it could be a theme option in a future version (but certainly only for Lazik+ users).
By the way I have seen some posts of you on other forums about my App, so I want to thank you for that, since I don't know all good english forums for Android ...
Yeah, no problem, great apps should be shared. As for the design, I REALLY REALLY like the way DoubleTwist is done, it's a real treat to look at.
First of, great great work!
Works really well!
Side note: People please note that you need to have proper firewall settings.
Some things I noticed.
The app found my winamp server, I then flipped open my keyboard to type in my server name (This was on a HTC DREAM: G1) , yet the little window disappeared and went behind the add and search server window.
When installing the plugin, the installer automatically kills winamp. Dunno if its stated somewhere, it didn't bother me though!
Anyways, thanks again! Real nice app!
Works great with my 2.2 Desire!
But... When I start the App, WiFi is enabling itself. I would like to control my Winamp trough my 3G connection.
I'm using a VPN, so the local ip-address is no problem. Also with a portmap in my router it should be possible to use it externally. All you have to do is turn off the automatic WiFi enabler and add support for connections over 3g?
Keep it on!
I love the app, simple and works a treat
here' s a couple of suggestions:
+1 on scrollbar size, it's a bit tricky to use it
would it be possible to add bookmarks support? I have all my radio links there...
I' ll play with it a little bit more an post more
I've been looking for something like this to control music playback on my PC from bed, thanks!

I don't really agree..
Double twist's gradients look bad and it all looks a bit 'cheap'.
There is too much wasted space and no instant easy access button to get back to library or playlist. Stock HTC music app is much more practical and usable, and looks cleaner and more profession.
Judging by the screenshots the design of this app looks great
Well, to each their own. A sort of theme would be nice, yes. Standard for you, a bit different for me.

I already thinked about this possibility, but judged it would be too hard to use for a simple user without computer skills. Anyway, your post shows me some people would like to use Lazik over 3g. I didn't gave it a try but it should work. Maybe it won't be in the next release but I'll add an option to disable automatic wifi in the future, so that "experimented" users would be able to test it over 3g. The way I thinked it would be not to hard was by using a service like no-ip.com, so that you could use an alias, and not your internet ip. By the way, router configuration will be necessary, but you seem to already know that Send me an email on lazik support so I'll be able to contact you when a version with this option will be available

The fact that the installer kills Winamp is normal, because Winamp needs to restart in order to see the new plugin.
Concerning the problem you mentionned while entering the server name, I wasn't aware of it since I never had the possibility to try Lazik on a G1 or any device with physical keyboard. I'll try to find why this occurs ... For the moment I advice users to use the virtual keyboard here.

Concerning the bookmarks, I never used them in Winamp but it could be a good thing to add them to Lazik. I can't promise it will be added quickly but it will be added to my todo list for a future version
THIS APP IS AMAZING! It works so unbelievably quick and well its really astonishing. Not quite perfect, but oh so close. (Winamp is also still the best music player in my opinion)
Bugs:
- The seek bar doesn't "seek"/There is no way to seek through a song
- There is no way to remove songs from playlist
Suggestions:
- Make seek and volume bars larger in the 'play screen'
- when you tap on a song on the playlist (or on the play button to the right of the song), a "back, play/pause, next" should hover up at the bottom or top of the playlist to give you more control within the playlist. Also, a seek bar should hover over the playing song. (I realize this would kinda take the place of the playback screen...)
- Alternate suggestion to previous one: Add a 'tap to play' queue to the playback screen.
- long press song in playlist to remove or move. Something similar to the home screen icons where a trash can pops up would be consistent and nice.
Suggestions that I'm not sure are possible:
- In the media library, when you navigate to a song, you should be able to tap it (not on the "+") to play the song, but NOT add it to your playlist. (should have similar hovering controls as in the playlist but of course no next/back cuz its not a playlist, its your media library)
- A way to save the playlist to the phone or to the computer
- A way to transfer song to phone or download all playlist songs to phone
- A way to stream music to the phone exclusively or at the same time as the computer
- Be able to 'screen' a song on your playlist from your phone WITHOUT having it play back on the computer (this builds upon the previous suggestion)
- Have the streaming music to the phone perfectly in sync with computer (Mac's Airport does this as well as a PC application called "Airfoil")
The last two suggestions would be absolutely invaluable to this app as it would CLEARLY distinguish the app from anything of the like. They would also be an incredible asset in a light DJish environment. Not to mention the phone would basically turn into a wireless speaker access point which I would gladly pay cash monies for if it worked as excellently as the app currently does.
Ridiculous Suggestions:
- Since you're already installing a plugin, add a simple VPN client built into the application so that you can access your music from your computer and play the music over the phone. (this builds upon the previous suggestions)
- Link multiple computers on the network using Winamp and send songs to be played on different computers (I don't even know what I would do with that function)
- A way to play songs from the phone, on the computer in the same synced/exclusive manner
- Ummm, don't hit me, but, video playback support?
Many of these suggestions require the app to have a full music player within the app which just might be FAR outside the scope of a "controller app". I personally don't like DoubleTwist at all, but I could see the majority of these suggestions (if possible) being rolled into the DoubleTwist app.
Ultimately I believe the implementation of the majority of my suggestions are limited by the audience. Unless this app becomes like a renowned/feature app on Android, I couldn't see anyone expending that much energy developing it...
Excellent app! AMAZING job! Thank you VERY much! Keep up the exemplary work!
Just bought your app. Works very well, but I've got one bug to tell you:
When I create a playlist in Winamp and select a track via your app, it doesn't show the cover on my device (HTC Desire with 2.2). In Winamp the cover is shown properly. I tried it with several mp3s, so I don't think it is a problem of a specific mp3.
I just tried to find the problem and I think it is a problem concerning the media database. All mp3s included in the main- and subdirectories are display with cover. But sometimes you wanna listen to the mp3 before archiving them. They are stored temporarily on my Desktop, but not on my media drive.
Would be very nice if you are able to include cover support for this setting (mp3 which are not in the database) as well.
Another 'bug': When Playing a track of your playlist and removing it while playing in Winamp, the main view of your app switches to the next song, but Winamp continues to play the song you just removed (which is a feature). Would be better if the plugin updates the current song after the song has finished to play.
Just found another small bug: When you search in your media library the searchbar at the bottom covers the last entry of your search results.
added on 28.08.: isn't it possible zu merge all tracks of one album together? Now all tracks of each album are show seperatly, even when i search for an album explicitly.
Nice work Mr.
I have a suggestion that might be doable.. Can you hook into the fact that a phone call is coming in and have it pause the music during the phone call? Might also be nice to have it as an option.. also to have it so u have to manually press play again so u don't get blasted as soon as you hang up the phone.
Really excited about this app. A lot of positive reactions. And indeed there hasn't been a proper winamp remote app on the market. But finally here it is!
But i have the following problem on a Windows XP sp3 installation at work:
I can't find the server and cannot connect to the IP adress the server should be running. Also, I'm not sure the server is installing like it should. Because I can't find the plugin in Winamp's plugins list. (Anyone know what it is called?)
Furthermore i'd like to add that Winamp had an iTunes plugin installed, but it did not have iTunes installed. So it would promt that it needed iTunes installed in order to use that plugin. Maybe this could mess things up? I'm just guessing.
The Windows firewall is turned off, but I do have Norton AV 2008 running. I couldn't find any settings for port managing so i thought Norton leaves this alone.
I tried turning the Windows firewall on and make an exception on port 5976, but no luck.
I'll try it in a few minutes at home on a Windows 7 64 bit box. (Without the iTunes plugin.)
But does anyone have some suggestions on how to get it to work at the bar I work in.
Regards,
DaanJordaan

Hi
I am the user using Galaxy S.
I am finding the best browser app. My first priority to select browser app is SPEED.
Which browser app do you think is the best for Andriod device?
The built-in Android browser I'm using Dolphin Mini now, it's fast too.
Sent from my ZTE-BLADE using XDA App
Stock browser simple anf fast
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
"Miren browser" without a doubt.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/miren-browser/cn.miren.browser
X-Scope is pretty good. I like it best among the alternatives to the stock browser.
Definitely miren.
I've tried:
- Skyfire
- Opera Mini (though not Mobile, yet)
- Dolphine HD and Mini
- Xscope
I was going to suggest Xscope, as of v6.3 they've really streamlined the interface and sped up the browsing.
...But after seeing folks suggest Miren, I loaded it up and I must admit I am impressed! So far this app has some really nice polish and it is definitely FAST.
Alright, Miren is now my default browser.
Xscope is so fast. But it started to save too much junk, resulting in fcs and terrible loading times. The UI is really dissapointing, though first user experience is really surprising.
So far I went back to miren. It's just as fast as safari, but the UI is so good in the end you get work done minutes earlier It's really compatible.(I mean, all the webpages have rendered properly so far) Though still quite uncompeteable with the stock one. Still use it sometimes.
For tablets opera or xscope. xScope gives you really chromish experience and it's fast, opera has become much better, and remember when surfing on mobile network, definetly the way to go.
Though miren has a mobile network saving feature too, it's quite failish(dunno the current version though) and just not as good as opera's. Dunno about tablet experience, though must be close to firefox/opera desktop experience.

EDIT:
And forget about skyfire and dolphin, they're just SO bad.
i will go for miren.....!!
you should try it.....
I also suggest miren but on my desire i have to kill the miren process manually or it drains the battery(this happened after a recent miren update).
Dolphin HD
I've tried various Browsers with my HTC Desire : Opera Mobile, Opera Mini, Xfire, Xscope, Dolphin (stock one), Dolphin HD, Miren... Yet, I still couldn't fine all-in-one browser!
Each browser has it's own problems: Miren, Dolphin and Dolphin HD (since all using WebKit, I presume) doesn't allow redirecting streams in browsing - which means, you cannot download PDF file if it's read through a PHP stream (you know, like in pages "*****.com/somefile.php?getid=xxxx" kind of pages - I noticed it when I tried to download a PDF file of my next project in my course web page)! Also, they don't allow HTTPS redirecting - say "secure connection couldn't established" - but I think it's Android related problem...
Opera does all these, but it's flash support is missing! Also, it makes render faults in some pages - It did for my bank's "web banking" page, for instance (perhaps due to some flash content). However, due to its own engine, it allows HTTPS redirecting and PHP stream-downloads.
Among those all, only Miren did correct pinch-to-zoom action though.. Text flawing makes unwanted scrolls in all browsers but this one - kinda surprised me, I must admit.
I now use Dolphin HD because Gestures are quite handy and I saw so small speed difference between Miren and this one (please note that Desire is fast device, this difference may be seen more in slower devices). Also, I've seen no browser (including Miren) but Dolphin HD rendering the flash content correctly - while using Miren, in my bank's web interface, flash content was flowing on top of browser interface, for instance!
So, instead of picking one, you'll most probably pick two - one will be dolphin Hd, miren or Dolphin and the other one is Opera - since you will, from time to time, have to use the other browser to open a page..
Dolphin Mini was small, fast, and efficient. Opera Mobile, with its somewhat hardware acceleration codecs, was as smooth as an IPhone browser on my Fascinate. But right now the stock browser has been good so far.

Agreed! I have tried them all except Dolphin Lite.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Have tried most of the browsers out there
Stock is ok, glad they brought in instant back in 2.2 so it didn't reload page everytime you went back , in 2.2.1 it seems slower though & is not as quick at going back
Miren I really liked first version but seems to get buggier with new versions, little things like the speed dial links on homepage not staying in order they were added, now each added one always goes first until new one is added etc, just tried 1.1 version but that won't go full screen now despite being set too, page movement is slower, some rendering glitches.
Dolphin always seemed slow doing anything, even the interface is slow, also tried mini version but that always had some page/link rendering issues like clicking links on bbc news page always selected above the link for some reason, stock does that at times too.
Firefox had high hopes for this one as it main desktop browser but I sad to see the betas, each one is worse & slower, hardly any options, all the good extensions don't work well, page zoom is pathetic as is text size & text reflow, I hope its not going final anytime soon as it needs a lot of work.
Opera mini & mobile are good, quick & fast, needs more options though, some page rendering issues but no worse than others, can't wait for flash & hardware acceleration to be activated, really liking opera 11 on the desktop.
Best one I have found so far is xscope 6, this is one fast clean looking browser love the dark glass theme, the pin zoom feature is great & I prefer the double tap zoom/reflow, instant back & did I say fast.

That's a port problem apparently(yeah I wrote that word again, so what? grammar nazis...). Either way I use the default browser for this kind of problems. It saves a lot of junk. I thought the same... I'll just reccomend you one thing: once a week delete xscope's cache. Or it'll get even slower. And disable the theme, it slows down as well =/

Chrome, sadly only for the google tv. I don't doubt we will get it soon.
I mainly use the default browser... it is fast enough for my needs, and gets the job done.
I have been an Opera Mini user for a long time, ever since it was released for windows mobile few years ago. It is for sure fast, but there are some issues with the rendering. some pages look weird, but if you use it for casual browsing, I guess you will be very satisfied.
I tried Dolphin HD and Opera Mobile, but I can't say I really liked them, too many options for a mobile browser, and both felt slow.
I rarely use the browser now. I used to check news and blogs, but I recently found out that Pulse reader is available for Android. I've been using it on my iPad for a while, and it sure made things much easier now it is available for my phone. It does not run as smoothly as its iPad counterpart, but it is good enough. I also use WiKidroid to check Wikipedia.. So unless I am searching for something on Google, I don't open the browser that much...
I guess I have to try Miren, everyone seems to recommend that one
I use Dolphin HD.
I've tried them all and it's the best for me without any doubt.
Hey guys! Due to the massive amount of PM requests I've gotten for Honeycomb-specific apps, that work on Spacemoose's 3.0 build, I decided to just start this repo thread.
I desperately need a GSM Tab owner(s) to test any and all of the apps listed, so I can update each review, as far as what build each app works on, especially now that we've split into two separate Dev threads!!
Thanks to Spacemoose1 for breaking her back to get CDMA owners, and to ssserpentine for bringing GSM Tab owners, working ports of 3.0. If you haven't donated to their efforts, I'd certainly suggest doing so.
GSM Tab owners: check out ssserpentine's thread (with full Spacemoose approval) in the link provided, and don't hesitate to hit the "Thanks" button, to recognize all their hard work in getting a working port ready for your devices!!

Ok, on to the apps. I'm going to try to present this in as clear a manner as possible, giving a screenshot and brief description for each app. I encourage anyone who has found additional files (NO WAREZ PLEASE!), to please post them. Try to follow the layout I've set up, so people can actually see and know what they're downloading. The reason being is that there are a decent number of HC specific apps, but they're lacking in variety; many apps (ie. Social or News apps) manage to accomplish the exact same thing, and it sucks to download a redundant app. So, here we go guys, enjoy!
** IMPORTANT** - It's been brought to my attention that some of these apps (those that I got from the Amazon store) may require the Amazon Store app in order to install. I have NO idea why, but, PLEASE, download the Amazon apk just in case. Sorry for the inconvenience guys.

A nice app with a clean, bright UI, and accurate forecasting. It runs, no problem, and the widget is nicely rendered as well. Until we get GPS functionality, the app can't run in "follow me" mode, so just set up locations manually - it's really easy. It's a huge file though, so be prepared to lose some SD space.

Battleheart - Mika Mobile (46MB)
While not designed specifically for tablet devices, the simple fact that this game has zero on-screen controls, makes it (imo), perfect for devices like the SGT. Battleheart is a fun, involving, and surprisingly in-depth RPG/Strategy/Beat-em-up game, with a quick learning curve, very low load times, and some beautifully rendered watercolor-type graphics. This is perfect for killing time on the train or bus, and isn't graphic enough to be kept away from the kids either. At $2.99, I'd say the game is a good value. Sorry for the crummy picture... I guess Drocap isn't spectacular with action shots. The screen and characters render flawlessly!
*This app does not show up in the market, as of the Spacemoose 2.5 build, so I downloaded it from Amazon. Simply download and install the Amazon Store apk near the top of the OP, sign up for a free account, and search for the app; you won't be disappointed.
Catch Notes - Catch.com (1.54MB)
A really neat little app here, and a surprisingly deep one. Catch lets you set, tag, and share notes, pictures, videos, etc. to and from your computer, and with friends and family, via Facebook, Twitter, Buzz, and a lot more! At first glance, Catch seems to have potential to be one of those productivity apps you can't do without, especially if you're always on the go.

CNBC: Real Time for Android - NBC Universal, Inc. (3.0MB)
If you work in finance, like I do, or simply follow the markets regularly, you may have been disappointed at the lack of a good, comprehensive market app. Now that we have 3.0 on our Tabs, those worries can end; CNBC: Real Time gives you full market coverage (and can be customized to suit your needs), a real-time stock ticker, market news from across the globe, and a nice, compact widget for your homescreen. I've been using the Scrollable Stock widget app for a while now, and I've tried Bloomberg and several others, but I have to say that this app trumps them all. It's available in the market if you search for it, but in case you can't find it, or your pre-release GSM build doesn't have the market included, the apk is below. Go get it, you've got a real blue chip here!

CNN App for Android Tablet - CNN (1.47MB)
The CNN app is, by far, the most flawed app on this list. It's really disappointing because the market screenshots look gorgeous. Trying to launch the app from the drawer will get you a force close every time, but it's made up for by having a really slick, auto-scrolling stack widget, that WILL allow you to access news articles, as long as you have an active internet connection. If you have a CNN account, you can log in and post comments to your articles of interest as well. Can't wait for full functionality!

DroidIris - Alexandre Delattre (298.26KB)
This app may end up making it into my list of "must-haves", I like it that much! Listen, how annoying is it to search for images on Google??! It's kind of a process, and scrolling down, through pages of irrelevant junk is just tedious, right!? DroidIris solves the issue, by acting as a one-stop-shop for searching, not just Google, but Bing, Yahoo, and other browsers, for the best web-based images and photos. The UI is smooth and sexy as well, with fly-in/out transitions, and quick searching. You might just find yourself never using your computer to look for pictures ever again!

Etch n Sketch - PX Inc. (572.73KB)
For those of you who tend to wax nostalgic from time to time, here's a blast from the past! I remember wasting countless frustrating hours, attempting to "master" the Etch-a-Sketch, as a child, and now I can live out that early childhood trauma all over again! This app, while not Honeycomb specific by any means, could prove fun, especially if you have young kids. Road trips, grocery shopping, or "staying out of your hair", while sitting on the couch, this app could end up saving you headaches... unless you feel like taking your Tab back, and attempting a masterpiece of your own... then, all bets are off!

File Manager for Tablets (GoAruna) - Aruna Labs (3.6MB)
Ever wonder what would happen if Dropbox and Root Explorer got together and had a kid? Well, this is it; Aruna Labs has cooked up a file management app that (with a free web account), will allow you to seamlessly back up your files online. No more searching for an apk in Root Explorer, then sending it to Dropbox, and waiting for it to upload... GoAruna does it all from one interface! The free online account gives you 2GB of space, and expanded, paid options are available; I will personally be using this to store zip files from my psx emulator, since they don't run on Honeycomb. This will allow me to quickly free up at least another 1.5GB of SD space, and could do the same for you! Free in the market, but the apk is right here! Enjoy.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/file.manager.tablet.goaruna-1.apk
File Manager HD (Honeycomb) - Rhythm Software (1.07MB)
A nicely designed file manager app. If you're used to Astro, you'll probably love this. With cut, copy, paste, and cancel process options, and a couple different views to choose from, navigating your files is a breeze! It's nothing mind-blowing... it does what it's supposed to, and does it while looking good!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/File%20Manager%20HD_1.1.4.apk
File Station Tablet - Farago Software (551KB)
The third, and final file manager I plan on covering here, but that is no indication as to File Station's relevance on this list. While it doesn't give you the online storage options that some others do, what FS brings you is a clean, simple UI, easy navigation, drag and drop options (much more convenient than copy and pasts, imo), and a visually appealing interface. If you've been a long-standing fan of Astro, I highly suggest looking into this; it just works, and works well! Free in the market, and as always, the apk is below!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/com.farago.filestationtablet-1.apk
FriendCaster Tab for Facebook - Handmark (8.54MB)
I know you love that background don't you?! Right, this app was one of the first ones I found, and I absolutely love it! It runs smooth, has a clean, customizable UI, lets you comment, like, and view updates all in one spot. Best of all, it doesn't force close like the stock app is very prone to do. My only complaint it that the auto-scrolling stack widget is a bit too small, but in my opinion, this is a must have app!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/FriendCaster.apk
Google Body - Google Inc. (17.02MB)
It's hard to go wrong when downloading a Google app, and this is no different. Body is fantastic to play around with, and the fact that you basically have a human anatomy book in the palm of your hand, is just ridiculous. That said, unless you're a pre-med student, or just love messing around with random apps, you'll probably never find a viable reason to use this. It still looks cool though!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/Body_1.0.apk
Grocery iQ - Tablet - Coupons.com Inc. (8.80MB)
Initially, I only downloaded and tested this because it's a Honeycomb specific app; I don't really have a use for it, but I have to say, I might give it a go. The layout is clean, and easy to navigate, you can get location specific coupons for a plethora of different items, and you can create quick, customized shopping lists (with product pictures and other options) for each store you shop at! In the end, I decided to include this because 1) it works flawlessly, and 2) because I KNOW somebody out there is going to get very excited about having this app on their Tab!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/com.coupons.GroceryIQ.Tablet-1.apk
Maxthon Mobile for 10" Tablet - Maxthon (2.20MB)
Maxthon browser was something I'd never seen before, and seeing as how they made a tablet specific (albeit NOT 3.0 specific! ) version, I decided to give it a whirl. The layout is a bit lacking, especially when compared to Dolphin Browser HD, or even the stock browser, but the browser's real strength lies (imo) in its homescreen interface, which boasts 42 fully customizable quick links. The general UI is surprisingly good, and seems to have clearly been designed for thumb navigation, with important functions just off the edge of the screen, for easy access. I'm going to stick with Dolphin HD for now, mainly because I'm used to it, it's fast, and the new Fire UI (in blue of course) looks fantastic with Honeycomb, but I do have to say that I'd love to see some of Maxthon's layout configurations become standard for tablet specific browsers.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/mbt10.apk
News360 for Tablets - News360 LLC (1.69MB)
Snappy, versatile, and clean, News360 really does the job! The layout is nice, and navigation is intuitive and interactive (fly-in animations, full screen previews, etc.). The ONLY drawback I see to this app is the fact that the stack widget is huge, at 4x5, and doesn't seem to like to always stay active. Nonetheless, this app is stellar... another one I'd add to my "must haves" list.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/com.news360.news360tablet-1.apk
Newsr - Locomo Labs (239.86KB)
Newsr looks simplistic and unassuming, and you know what... it is. That's not necessarily a bad thing though. Here's the premise; sign in with your email address, and get all your RSS feeds beamed down to your Tab. The app does just that, but choose a feed, click on an article, and then hit the little "eye" icon in the upper right, and the related article flies in instantly. The lack of load times is always important for anyone on the go, but if you use another app, like my6sense, you may not find a use for this app. It's solid, but needs to be a bit more dynamic to catch my attention.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/NewsrHD_Legion.apk
Plume for Twitter - LevelUp Studio (1.92MB)
The artist formerly known as Touiteur, Plume resurfaced with a new UI, boasting a good amount of customization options. While not Honeycomb specific, they have altered the layout and UI to be tablet friendly, and it shows. The premise is basic... read your friend's tweets, leave your own, get direct messages, yada yada... but at least you can look good doing it. In my opinion, Plume isn't going to blow you away (the widgets are Sense-like scrollable widgets, and don't take advantage of the new technology or hardware real estate), but it's a nice app, with some nice features.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/Plume.apk
Tablet Wallpapers - Mobile Spy (2.70MB)
I know how frustrating it is to have a shiny, "new" SGT with Honeycomb, and not being able to find wallpapers that fit well in landscape mode. Zedge has a couple, but not many, and searching online is a crapshoot, both in terms of quantity, and quality. Tablet Wallpapers solves the issue, by delivering nothing but top-notch, high quality wallpapers, designed specifically for landscape mode tablets. I can't say enough about this app... the UI is slick, the search options are vast, and the wallpaper quality is stellar. If you want a replacement for your old wallpaper app, go get this... you'll love it!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/com.tabletapps.wallpapers-1.apk
TuneIn Radio - TuneIn Inc. (1.30MB)
Another of my favorite "on-the-go" apps here. TuneIn gives you a plethora of radio options, from sports to music, politics to food, and it's free!! Yes, there is a paid version in the market as well, but I don't personally need it. I can get my ESPN Radio shows in the morning, on my way to work, and catch my Seattle Mariners broadcasts at night, so I'm a happy camper. If you're on the go a lot, and want a little variety in your life (TuneIn offers language-specific broadcasts as well!), check this out! No need to pay subscription prices for satellite radio, when you've got everything you need in the palm of your hand!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/tunein.player-2.apk
Tweetcomb - Locomo Labs (281.71KB)
Like the name suggests, Tweetcomb was designed specifically for Android 3.0, and it shows! With an attractive UI, intuitive interface, and some nice customization options, this app does Twitter the way it was meant to be done. Look, an app has to be good when the only flaw I can find with it is that it doesn't have a widget ! Hopefully, Locomo will take care of the issue though. Another A+ app!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/BlackDroidTweetComb11.apk
WeatherBug for Honeycomb - WeatherBug by Earth Networks (2.46MB)
Get f'ing excited, because I know I am! This app was ripped straight from the SGT 10.1 system dump, but I couldn't get it to work until today. As such, it was a last-minute inclusion to the list, and I have to say, one of my personal favorites. With the AccuWeather app clocking in at a mammoth 46MB, while WB is only at 2.5MB, it makes it a no-brainer for me, as far as storage space goes. Not to mention.... look at that UI!!! It's clearly custom made for Honeycomb, and I'm really glad I got it to run (again though, no GPS means no "follow me" functionality). Adding locations is a breeze, and if there's one real complaint I have, it's that the widget is awful, especially when you see the care that went into designing the UI.
**To get the app to run without force-closing, go to the main Settings menu, and click on Location and Security. Then, click the "Google location search" box, and when the pop-up window comes up, tap Disagree. Then go into the app, and in the pop-up box, uncheck the bottom option (I believe it's an "Enable Location" option; you can leave the background updates on, and the app should run just fine.**

Webport HD: Travel and Hotels - Webport.com (1.40MB)
Do you travel a lot, or are you planning a vacation for the family? Don't spend extra time scouring website after website, comparing airline and hotel prices, because Webport HD will do it for you! Designed specifically for Honeycomb, Webport HD brings you a super nice, all-in-one search engine for both airfare and lodging, allowing you to instantly compare locations and rates, and make the best decision quickly. While you can't book flights or rooms directly through Webport, they do provide the contact information to you, so you can get on the phone and make reservations, while looking at the information on your Tab! The UI is simple, and getting search results is accurate and fast... what more could you want?! We live in an age of convenience people, why would you want to waste more time than you have to? If you're a travel nut, get awesome with Webport!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/webport.com-1.apk
Wizz (Colorize Widget HD) - SnowBEE (1.1MB)
SnowBEE has brought us great widget packs before, but I have to say that this takes the cake. Formatted exclusively for Android 3.0+, Wizz brings your social networking and agenda widgets to the next level! While this IS a trial version (Pro version is in the works), and can be found in the market for free, it offers such a nice variety of widget designs, that it's almost impossible not to recommend this app. I do have some issues with the themes not sticking, and (up until last night) all the widgets, with the exception of the calendar, would set off the "Strict mode" red border in this build. With that issue corrected now, the widgets look and perform flawlessly, and will give an added dimension to any homescreen. I have no qualms about saying that I WILL be purchasing this when it goes Pro, but until then, the free version does the trick.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/ColorizeWidgetHD1.4.1.apk
**If you too need a fix for the red border, check the post from ssserpentine, below. This solution worked instantly for me, and I've had no issues since!**

So there it is guys... my shortlist of apps that I was able to compile last night. I'll add more as I find them, and like I said earlier, feel free to post your own finds, as long as they're free apps. Just try to follow my formula if you can, with a pic of the app screen, and your thoughts on its functionality etc. That's it guys... thanks for stopping bye, and again a huge thank you to Spacemoose1, without whom, our Tabs would still be stuck in the dark ages!
tnx buddy , i got 1 question , i think the links you post are there for every apps u post here right , my question is , is in any way that 1 of your apps are pay versions ?

I didn't think so, since I got the majority of them off of the Amazon Market for free and the apk downloads I got elsewhere were double-checked against the official listings in the Android Market, so everything should be good. I certainly don't want to be posting paid apps, so if you let me know which one you're talking about, I'll take it down right away!!

Thanks a ton for this.
No problem guys. I've been following Space's thread since the day it went up, and I've seen how excited everyone is getting, but honestly, it kinda sucked to have a shiny new UI, and no good apps to put on it, nor the market access to get them. Having a few of these apps on my Tab makes it more usable on an every day level, for me anyway. Considering the only 3.0 app w/ widget that made it into the build was YouTube (which is broken for me), I wanted something more... something that could really show off the firmware, so I went apk hunting, and decided to spread the wealth. I hope you guys enjoy what I've found so far!
thx a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot !!!!
now i'm waiting for GSM version
like i said in PM, really great! nice and thorough
thanks again
It's my pleasure guys, really. I want everyone's first Honeycomb experience to be a good one. As soon as I get a couple more "every day" apps posted (and as soon as we get audio into a build), I'll start testing a couple of games. We might be stuck on that though, since a lot of the very best games seem to be Dual Core (Tegra) reliant, but I'll check.

One thing, have you tried Google Books? Is it on the Market? And is YouTube as sexy as it looked in the promo videos?

Yeah, I tried installing the books.apk from both the Xoom and SGT 10.1 dumps, but no luck I'm going to rip the one out of my Liquid Gingerbread build next, and see if it will fire up. YouTube has been hit or miss for me, honestly. I can't launch the app directly, without getting a fc, but the widget does work, and will take you to the appropriate video, and yes, the UI looks fantastic! I can't wait for full functionality! That's another issue though... I haven't been able to get video to play reliably at all (have Flash 10.3 installed too), but I'm sure Space will get everything sorted.

Didn't even realise there were 10.1 dumps Haha. I know there's a 1.1.4 version floating around the internet, but when the Xoom dump leaked, I looked inside and everything was a Tablet variant. Haven't looked since, but maybe that could gibe some clues.
Possibly one of the things I'm looking forward to most is that wall of videos It looks fantastic. I'm sure they'll all be ironed out in future builds, burning guess GSM support is taking full priority.

Yeah, it seems Space is really pushing hard to get a GSM build out of repo and on to the download page! It looks like Alpha 2 isn't even going to drop for GSM though, since Space is working on the next release, and she said that she'll try to release both v3 versions at the same time. I'm hoping audio and GPS at least get ironed out in the build, but we'll see. The suspense is part of the fun of flashing alpha builds!
And I agree, the YouTube carousel is (imo) one of the best UI overhauls I've ever seen! I can't wait to actually play with it!
**Oh, and the 10.1 dump is from I/O... I found it a couple weeks ago. It's really similar to the Xoom, but with extra apps (gotta love Samsung bloatware!). The only reason I downloaded it was to post it on Space's thread, in the hopes that she could use it in her builds. If you want it though, I can throw it up here for you.
App Update
**Added 3 new apps to the OP; Catch Notes, DroidIris, and Etch n Sketch**
# Fuze will be included as soon as our devices get data connectivity, since the app requires a phone number to use.
Important update in op!
It was just brought to my attention by luke1333 that some of the apps listed, may need the Amazon App Store app in order to install properly. I'm totally bemused by this, considering they ARE apk files after all. Even though I did get some of them from the Amazon store, I was not expecting the files to have Amazon specific permissions!!
In light of that development, I've added the required apk to the TOP of the OP. Sorry if that issue has caused anybody any inconvenience.

Gentle Alarm | $2.87
APPBRAIN
An alarm clock shouldn't shell-shock you out of your dreams. That's why I created Gentle Alarm which tries to wake you up during light sleep using an optional pre-alarm.
Click to collapse
When I used my iPhone 4, I was a huge fan of the alarm clocks which rested in my bed and woke me up when I started fidgeting. This alarm doesn't do that, unfortunately. However, he says that said technology does not function correctly. This application is a monster alarm clock. It has all the features you will need, and more. Now it can connect with SleepBot Tracker Log so you can see just how long (or little) you sleep at night. It wakes me up very easily, and the snooze features are a godsend.

Pocket | FREE
APPBRAIN
MARKET
Pocket allows you to safely store all your sensitive data such as bank account details and passwords on your phone. Pocket is also useful for remembering all those bits and pieces of information in one place from frequent flier numbers to contact lens prescriptions.

This application is very similar to 1Password for Mac and iPhone. I like it because it is one of the few apps which looks great on Android. It can hold a wide variety of data from website passwords to your drivers license. It is password protected by an alpha-numeric password of your choosing. Only thing that I wish it had was the android-style pattern lock. None the less, it is a great app to keep up with all your online accounts.

I find this keyboard to be radical and absolutely necessary. I like the fact that it looks like the iPhone keyboard. It overall sits nicely and has a lot of customization features. I find it to be very stable. After calibration, it almost never misses a word. Also, it has sound effects like the iPhone. If you're not a macfag, then it can skin to HTC or whatever. Keyboard is fully scalable, and has more languages than you could ever speak.

Absolutely a fine app to have. One can never know when an accident will happen. First responders will need to find a way to get a hold of your loved ones, and this will do the trick. Better get it before the accident happens. Better to be safe than sorry.

This is a great idea. Another music app that is very similar, and a little more popular, is PowerAmp. I mostly use playlists to listen to music but when I used to have my G2, scrolling through my playlists with PlayerPro was always very laggy for some reason, which made me switch to PowerAmp, which has smooth scrolling everywhere. I can say that both music applications have pretty much the same features so it's all really a matter of preference.
A pretty recent app that I've discovered is called Postagram, which basically lets you take or choose a photo from your gallery, facebook, etc, and send it as a printed postcard anywhere in the world for 99 cents. It's really a good deal and the prints are high quality.
Worth mentioning:
Pulse news reader: Graphically rich RSS reader
Runkeeper: GPS running app with personal statistics and graphs on their website
SeriesGuide: For TV lovers, keep track of the episodes you're watching and know when the next episode is
Hey man, thanks for the replies. I'll check those apps out that you recommended and I'll add 'em.
Keep any requests or changes coming!
By the way, is there any way to post using WYSIWYG editing? This coding is getting tedious..
thanks I will check Pocket out
IMHO the most important app I have is an I.C.E. In Case of Emergency app
I've been looking for an app like Pocket that is also visually attractive, thanks for that. Have you used the desktop version (beta)? I'm just worried that If I lose my phone I won't be able to access the information. I also use Smart Keyboard, seems to be the best keyboard there is, unless you want Swiftkey for text prediction.
I have a suggestion for the thread though, maybe you could edit the title with the date that you update the post, that way people will know that you added new apps.
Also, I.C.E. seems like a very useful app... in case of emergency. Thanks for the suggestion Joe-retired.
I have had smartkeyboard pro for a couple of years and love it. Back in the G1 one days its was the only keyboard big enough and fast enough for me to type one. Holds true today on my G2X, I would highly recommend.
My apps
My must have apps
1. Gapps - self explanitory google rocks
2. Ti backup - dont leave home w/o it back up and restore anything
3. Astrid tasks - best task manager imo
4. Mint - best free finance manager/tool
5. Dropbox - keeps my files in sync accross all my devices
6. Subsonic - stream music/videos to any IP based device via flash through browser or app available for iphone too (my girl has one)
7. Root explorer - blows any file browser away also has r/w access to whole phone
8. Folder organizer - keeps my home screen in check
What general calendar application do you guys recommend?
These are the ones I know of:
CALENGOO
BUSINESS CALENDAR
POCKET INFORMANT
CALENDAR PAD
I want a clean looking calendar. One that appeals to the eyes, and will function nicely as well.
When I was using my iPhone 4, Pocket Informant was awesome. But, on Android, Pocket Informant looks like crap.
Here are pictures for comparison.
iOS
Android
So, what calendar app can I use that will look good and do well?
I'm running CM7, build 49 for the Colorized Effects
I use Jorte, it has many options for a calender and a nice widget.
My quicklist:
Tools:
AutoKiller Memory Optimizer
Autorun Manager
Disc Usage (2d graph of all data and how much room it takes up, its very nice)
File Expert Batch zip files, search files and everything in-between.
SetCPU
Juice Defender!!! Has saved my batter Sooooo much, no matter what kernel your using.
Lookout Mobile Security Of course.
Reboot Manager For Super fast reboots when needed.
SD Booster IT makes a difference.
YouMail -Visual Voicemail -Havnt had an issue with sync yet on it.
Extra's:
Documents to go (free edition, the price for the paid is just outlandish)
Dolphin Broser HD (i like tabs )
Font Changer - Change the whole font on your phone, no matter what ROM
LG 2x/Black Notification - I loved a LED light, but non on the G2x, so they light up the buttons similar to an LED for notifications. I love it!
Handcent SMS --Cant live without it, whatsoever
And P.S. - I couldnt live without Smart Keyboard Pro or Handcent SMS
The list of all my APPS: http://www.appbrain.com/user/bmann_420/apps-on-the-lg-optimus-2x
Thank you for that link to the Colorized Effects! Quite a gem!
Regarding YouMail, I used Google Voice for the longest time. What does YouMail do better than Google Voice's Transcribing feature?
I agree about Juice Defender. It saved me so much juice.
Why HandcentSMS over ChompSMS? I personally use ChompSMS, I find that it has a more concise UI than Handcent, but it doesn't offer as easy customization. However, it has recently been crashing whenever I receive a text message. I think that is enough for me to switch.
What are your thoughts about GO SMS?
I used Dolphin, it was my favorite on the G1. Haven't yet installed it on the G2x.
And, File Expert or Astro File Manager?
This is fun, guys.
EDIT // here is a review for File Expert over Astro File Manager. Interesting.
I personally replaced Handcent with GO SMS a few months ago. I just think that the features it comes with were much better at the time, and it has no ads, which was pretty big for me. Not sure how much Handcent changed though, but GO SMS has SMS backup built in which is very useful for me.
I don't really use the calendar too much so the stock calendar has done fine for me, although it is ugly. The Launcher Pro calendar widget is fantastic, rivaling the HTC sense calendar widget.
I personally use Miren Browser, seems to be a full featured and fast web browser and has been featured on sites like Lifehacker and gizmodo.
I also agree with Lookout Mobile Security and LG 2x/Black Notifications.
EDIT: Root explorer for all your file exploring needs
This is fun indeed!
youmail: its a nice automated message saying the callers name (if in contacts list) and yours. And it reads it back to you very nicely.
Why Handcent... Well I'll just jump right into it:
So, I have used Handcent for about 2 years now. I switched to chomp for about a month 6 mo ago, did not the easy to use features, and the UI was terrible compared to handcent. I tried to get myself use it, but it just diddnt fullfill my 'easy functionality' and 'aesthetic purposes'.
Pretty much exactly the same with Go SMS. I just actually added Handcent back to my device about 2 weeks ago from using Go SMS for about 2 mo. Quick pop ups lack Completely in functionality and options compared to handcent. When in a 'chat box or mms' options to add smileys, or add attatchments are troublesome and much more difficult to use compared to Handcent. The UI in handcent seems much more... defined. Almost a higher resolution it seems. Same things with the apple theme black, just better than the dark theme. If you go into the specifics of hancent, user options are very diverse and their are many more of them.
Take for instance CM7's options compared to any other ROM, is how I see the difference in the settings. I hope that elaborates my details... Thats just me of course, everybody has their preference. Just take a deep look into the details of each one and see for yourself
-Handcent has a backup and restore service, simply requires an email registration.
http://my.handcent.com/login (I guess it costs 5$)
I use Astro / File expert & ES File manger. I dont use root explorer, i simple use Droid explorer or droid commander to push files. I like saving money =) I will buy backup titanium though, with how many times im switching roms with the capability of making a .zip thats flashable.
While using that keyboard app does it get rid of the gingerbread keyboard lag?
calendar
Gemini Calendar
Ive never really noticed any lag at all.

It's as close to microsoft office as I've seen on android. Holy cow, even ctrl+a, ctrl+c, and ctrl+v work. You can even control the page layouts, fonts, color, etc. I mean, everything is there.
And it's only 99 cents!
I don't understand why it's not mentioned more. The developers obviously put a lot of thought into this very useful app.
Note: I own quickoffice HD, doc2go, thinkfree, and office suit pro 5, in addition to kingsoft. The point is I know what I'm talking about.

Where does it say this?
Interesting..considering its more known for its Chinese translate programs..and its kingsoft office suit for the Chinese pc market..
Will check it out..
Permissions are a bit of a worry thru..
Post back lator once had a look..
Edit: brought it and it does give you the options to opt in or out for sending usage data back..
I compared it to a few other's and don't feel threatened by it..
Still this would where it would be nice to have a firewall in place..
any thoughts on that? - know of any for android?

goodintentions,
I noticed some reviews in the Android Market that say that the spreadsheet doesn't do formulas.
If this is correct, that's a big omission.
Could you please try a couple of formulas to see if this is true?
Thanks,
Eric

Will do.
Before I do this, just so you know that there is no 1 perfect office app for android yet. What I do is I use a combo of apps for my needs. For example, thinkfree has the best excel spreadsheet out there. Don't even try to argue with me. It is the only one that displays everything in an excel spreadsheet, even those bubble comments you put in as well as arrows and stuff and photos. Check it out.

Thinkfree's word sucks, though. It doesn't even have wordwrap. Your words will be cut off right in the middle of the word so that half the word is on one line and the other in the next line.
Kingsoft's word seems to be the best.
Office suite pro 5's powerpoint seems to be the best. I'm still testing them out.
Added by edit.
Just tested. While it will display the formula results correctly if you just open up a file pre-edited. But it will not allow you to add a formula. So, for example if you create an xls sheet on your pc with "=5+2" in one of the cells and then save it and transfer to your TF, kingsoft will show "7" in that cell. But if you use your TF to put in "=5+2" kingsoft will show it as "=5+2" in that cell. If you try to open up the cell that had "=5+2" from the pc, it will say "unsupported data type".
Again, I use a combo of apps for my needs. Thinkfree has the most complete xls support. Kingsoft has the most complete doc support. And office suite pro 5 has the most complete ppt support, although I sometimes also use do2go for ppt.

control+a, control+c, and control+v are supposed to work in just about every text area that isn't Really Frakking Weirdo.

Thanks for the fast reply!
Kingsoft may not be the bext XLS choice, but it's Word module sounds excellent, and since the price is certainly right, I'll get it. Thinkfree XLS support does look impressive, though. Between Kingsoft, Polaris, and QuickOfffice Pro HD, I'll make do.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Eric

Just a warning for you. There is a bug in Polaris that randomly kills your document. Since it strikes at random, its not very well documented. Furthermore, for some damn reason, the document you created, worked on, and saved will sometimes only show up half way if you're trying to print. Again, this strikes at random, so no doubt most people have not experienced this. I'd stay away from Polaris just to be safe.
PS Ruined one of my presentations.

I can't seem to get the app to download on my tablet (stock unrooted). It keeps force closing the market as soon as I click download as it is about to load the permissions. Is this happening to anyone else?
Do animations work with powerpoint slides?

There's a bug in the market app that force closes when you're trying to install certain apps. There's a way around this. Go to market.android.com and install from there.
Regarding that bug about Polaris, I think it also corrupts file formats.. I wrote a document on docs2go, it was fine for the three days I used it, but I decided to open it with Polaris so I could check how many pages it turned out to be. Lo and behold, all I did was save the file before turning off Polaris, boom, next time I attempted to open it, "unsupported file format."
Anyway, at least I learned to save my files in Google Docs now.

That's what I mean by killing your file. Now, I'm pretty good at recovering corrupted files. But polaris does something that makes the file unrecoverable.
Stay away from it like the plague.

I've got a Excel spreadsheet and no matter what office "clone" product I use, the spreadsheet will NOT open on any of them. The only one I need any of them to open and it does not. Bummer.

Have you tried thinkfree?
Look, android devs have only had half a year to work on an office app for android tablets. Microsoft has ha like 20 years to perfect their office.
You need to use a combo of office apps for your needs.
For example, I use thinkfree office for excel because it's the most complete. Check out the attached screenshots of thinkfree showing a microsoft excel file.
I use kingsoft for word processing because it's got the most friendly interface.
For powerpoint, I go back and forth between them all.
