[Q] G2X work for Wind/Mobilicity? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hello everyone,
Just a quick question... I was told by a friend that the G2x from tmobile work for Wind's AWS (1700/2100) Network. But from ebay, I see only UTMS 2100.
So I want to ask whether or more there is different versions of G2x, like ones that support wind's frequency and ones that does not. I know this is a really stupid question but I really need this confirmation before I make the purchase.
Thanks alot in advance.

The LG Optimus G2X (P999) will work on Wind, there are two versions. The only difference though is that one is TMobile branded, the other is LG branded.
The LG Optimus 2X (P990) Will NOT work with Wind and is only LG branded. Make sure NOT to get this one if you are looking to go on Wind. Even though Wind advertises their phone to be the 2X it is NOT, it is a G2X (P999).

Thank you so much! Everything is clear to me now.
I will go ahead and make the purchase.
Again Thanks!

lg optimus g2x 2x with 850 1900 band?

Does lg optimus g2x 2x have 850 1900 band?
no one knows for now, even if it does, it is locked. so the phone won't work with ATT 3g. (it's been confirmed)
too bad indeed.
wondering why they dont have more band on it like other phones, unless they dont want to make it worldwide.
They don't want to make it worldwide. They want it to work on Tmobile.
They stated that if Tmobile and AT&T merge, they will unlock the basebands.... that or until some Devs here unlock it first.
ok. hopes it can unlock soon.
anyone know the differences of 990 and 993, they seem to be the same?

T-Mobile USA 3G Compatible - Which Version?

I hear the O3D has 2 international versions, and both do not support the T-Mobile USA 1700/2100 band.
How can I tell the difference?
I already made the mistake getting the Thrill 4G without realizing it would only work on 2G for T-Mobile. Awesome phone but I would like to have 3G as well so I will be returning my Thrill and getting an O3D on eBay.
there's been a lot of topics similar to this.
When searching online or on ebay, just go read the HSDPA bands. If it has 1700 on it, you're fine. Ignore the GSM bands since that's every version of the Optimus 3D will work.

Here's a link, sorry not ebay.

Ouch. You may want to get it from a retailer since you'll have a better chance at getting a better warranty. There are domestic (USA-based) retailers who have the O3D at good prices, AND if it's the wrong one you'll have an easier time returning it. Plus, they will be able to tell you if you are getting the right one with AWS/1700 bands. That's the one I have and I get 3.5G speeds on it. You can see other threads for some speed test results, and they are good.
Good luck.

[Q] AWS compatibility

Hi there,
I've done some googling on the topic and i can't seem to find a concrete answer, i was hoping one of you could help me out.
When my plan is finished in december, i'm planning on switching over to WIND mobile since their prices are WAY better than anything any other canadian provider has to offer. Unforunately, their network only really works with AWS compatible phones. Now, my friend had a rogers captivate and switched over to WIND no problem. My infuse is an ATT version (not sure if theres a difference) but theres no mention of AWS compatibility on phonegsm for the captivate or the infuse.
I'm thinking that in that case, the infuse is also compatible?
If anybody has a friend that uses WIND, would it be possible for you to pop in their sim card and see if it works?
Wind Mobile requires your equipment to transer on 1710–1800 MHz, and receive at 2100–2155 MHz.
Due to the fact that the Infuses radio can operate on both 1800 and 2100 Frequency, I would assume that it would work. However, if you go to a Wind Mobile store, they can test your phone for free.

If it's an AT&T phone, it's not AWS compatible - simple as that.
Try unlocking a T-Mobile phone, much higher chance of working.

[Q] Does it matter where you buy it

Hey guys,
Excited on getting my Nexus S.
Gonna buy it from the Chinese behemoth Taobao.com
I found out the Nexus S isn't officially available from Samsung China. So it looks like I will be getting an Asian or Euro model. I will get the i9020 (S AMOLED).
I will be moving to Canada soon.
My question is: are all unlocked Euro/Asia models the same in that their frequency bands and features will work in Canada? I don't want to get shafted by getting the wrong 3G band or something like that.
Also, is there region-specific software on the phone that cannot be removed?
It won't have any region specific software, and the radio should work anywhere in the world. If you find you have any issue with it when it arrives, post again, people here are very helpful!

They're not region specific per se, but radio specific. Here's the models:
GT-I9020 or GT-I9020T
900 / 1700 / 2100 MHz UMTS, Super AMOLED
GT-I9020A
850 / 1900 / 2100 MHz UMTS, Super AMOLED
GT-I9023
900 / 1700 / 2100 MHz UMTS, Super Clear LCD
Thanks bedalus and polobunny, will post again once I buy it in the next week or so. =)
If you're coming to Canada, then depending on which carrier you're going to, you'll need a specific version.
Bell, Telus and Rogers use the 9020A
Wind and Mobilicity use the 9020T
Wind and Mobilicity are only available within some urban centres, but are much cheaper. Some complain about quality, but I doubt it's that big a deal so long as you're in their 'zone'.
Keep this in mind when buying.

Thanks bloomfield for that.
I went to the cell phone mall today, went there to find the actual store of one of the guys off taobao. Anyways they all have it but one I saw was from Spain it looked like (inside the battery area) with an Australian manual (could be fake cuz of the paper and the folding was off)
And of course no warranty.
Another came in a Galaxy S box! and again a fake Chinese manual for another model. I was like wtf happened from getting it from overseas to here. They say blah blah blah old phone, etc. now the phone may be legit but why risk all that **** for 300+ bux when I can just get it new/used in Canada for around that WITH warranty.

LG optimus 2x

So I have a lg optimus 2x and it doesn't have the T mobile brand on it however, the person who gave me the phone was using it and is with T mobile and he was getting a 3g or 4g connection. If true, i tried my sim card i am not even getting a 3g signal, only Edge.
So, would installing a G2x rom fix anything or is that a brick i'll be holding?
I already installed the optmius 2x cyangon rom, rooted with super click but got no 3g so...
Any insight?
Wrong phone forum. This is for the G2X, not the Optimus 2X. There's a separate forum for that phone.
You should never flash a rom for the phone if it isn't specifically for that model.
The names are close but they are different.

Right. Also, the Optimus isn't designed to work on Tmo natively, that is to say it's meant to be used on the Wind carrier (and maybe others, I've never cared enough to look into it). And in keeping with the fact that the roms aren't compatible they maybe also operate on different frequencies and that could be why the 2g only, but I'm only saying this on a semi-educated guess, so I could be completely wrong.
Go to setting and about phone. Need to know if the Model Number is p999 or p990.
Everyone remember that Wind Mobile is using the p999 and it is an Optimus 2x as T-Mobile can only call it a G2x.
Phone is p990. Also, would getting the sim card upgraded to a 4g one help? as the person who i got the phone from said that he was getting a 4g connection and unless i don't have that than the connection will drop down to Edge.
Have you guys heard of this?

You should get the 4g card but still not sure if you will get 4g speeds. It looks like it has the same frequency's.
On the bright side, you're getting ics

Sorry to disagree with a previous poster, but if the phone is a P990 then will certainly NOT be able to get 3G or 4G on T-Mobile.
The person who had the phone before is simply not telling you the truth. There is no way he was getting a 4G connection on a T-Mobile SIM with an LG P990 - only the P999 can do that...
Well, there *IS* a way, but it isn't something you would have any control over. Apparently there are a _very few_ areas of the U.S. where T-Mobile has roaming agreements with AT&T that will allow certain AT&T compatible 3G devices (such as the P990) to roam onto AT&T 3g/4g using a T-Mobile SIM. Chances are unlikely, however, that this is the case. Even if it were, you would not be able to do the same unless you were in one of those few areas.

Roaming on AT&T would most likey not get 3G either. The P990 is compatible with 900, 1900 and 2100 bands. AT&T uses the 850 band for 3G. In some areas they might use 1900 but I am not sure about that.
Also, the P990 in Canada is not for Wind. Wind and Videotron sell the P999 which is identical to the G2X. The only carrier in Canada selling the P990 is Fido.
