Hebrew RTL on current ROMs - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hi Guys
to get full Hebrew support i successfully used a tool called Hebfix on Froyo and on GB 2.3.4.
It changed the framework.jar libandroid.so and libwebcore.so, fixing the right to left issue with numbers, reversed back the Hebrew menus texts and installed a clear bold font
(combined with 'More Locale 2' defined Hebrew (iw) locale).
Please note that on some 2.3.5 & 2.3.6 ROMs it just makes a mess.
Some ROMs get into a bootloop, on others everything seems to be working fine even for days until you start getting bluetooth lags, wifi signal with no reception and disabled GPS, sometimes if you reboot the phone with a device set as open it will work on next boot, sometimes it doesn't help. I tried 4 ROMs, 2 kernels, 3 modems all combinations.
Other Hebrew fixes caused similar issues, but strangely it took them days to do that (Tried RTL Patcher over SimplySimple, ICBINB, Octane...)
I'm currently using Valhalla final (2.3.6) and it seems to be working fine.
My advice, If you must have GB OS with Hebrew support:
Wipe everything (3 times each - cache, dalvik and user data) , flash Valhalla Final.
Install and run 'system mount' and mount system for RW, run Hebfix 0.93 and apply it.
Install 'More Locale 2' and add locale - Hebrew (iw).
I was able to successfully apply Adrenaline shot 12.
Untill Bhundven's precious kernel work reaches final stages, i recommend flashing KJ1 and fix the su binary (google it)
In ICS all these issues will be solved, since Hebrew support will be hardcoded (it will take some months before we see any ICS ROM here, but i think it will happen).

Hi Tomer
I have 2 of these sweeties. One of the wife working pretty good with Valhalla 1.1 (you can use a very good hebrew guide of fish72 in iandroid on how to install it with complete hebrew support).
http://iandroid.co.il/forum/topic48215.html
For my own device I'm always trying new stuff. Currently preparing to test RaverXX Octane in 2 days. If you have patience maybe this one will be for you. I will update. My main concern is the hebrew support, which did not work 100% well with SimplySimple ROM.

Hi itzik

and i dont know what to do, how i can fix that?
It happens right when I turn on the device, and i cant goin to recovery or download mode?
Please HELP !!!

What steps of Fish72 guide did you manage to perform by now?
Did you successfully odin KG4?
Do you have CWM?
I need more info.
You can contact me on the same username in iandroid and I'll get back to you faster.

hi itzik
Well, all the steps in the guide were performed correctly, the last step of installing the HEBFIX , my friend hung up the phone cable during installation, what we thought would cause problems with alignment of the Hebrew, so we start again the guide we performed the part of the RED CWE but we forgot to make the section 5 What must have "knocked" the device gives us the message:
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue, Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
Any ideas?

Everything is OK
I started the guide from the beginning, step by step, and works fine
Thank you

Hi Itzik
the Valhalla v1.2 making a restart every few minutes, do u have a fix for that?
do u have a new rom for me? with Hebrew interface? ( for my wife )
what are you recommend?
By the way
I am writing on iandroid web site, switch to page 2

Hi Tomer
I apologize if i misled you.
Hebrew is a big mess, and Krylon360, one of the gurus here, confirmed Framework.jar messing (what all Hebrew fixes do) is a big big risk.
I can tell you this - if you search for android version changes on Wikipedia you will
see there where barely no changes from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6.
so, I returned to the only ROM that worked perfectly for me for months (till i just got bored) and still works for my wife (all the rest ROMs, good as can be, lasted only days due to instability or wifi not working due to Hebrew) - Valhalla 1.1.
See updated opening post please.
Itzik

Hebrew on rom
Shalom All,
I also have lots of problems with the new ROMs, at the beginning I thought something wrong with the new ROMs but no one have the same problem like I have...
Then I read this post and I tried not to install Hebrew for couple of days and most of the problem didn't occur.
My point is, what is the problem with the Hebrew update? did someone of you have the source code of the files? I may help you to fix it!
If I can take the file or files from other ROM that work good with Hebrew, can it resolve the issue? like from Cellcom Orange... etc
what about to translate the all ROM?
[updated] Sorry, I just saw this now, what about Valhalla Final, is it experience with the same issue in Hebrew?
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11743-rom-valhalla-final-kj6-basedhappy-holidays12122011/

Hi HQWarp
Shalom to you too.
First, I answered you on the CWM issue - use Bali kernel (see detailed answer on the iandroid Hebrew 2.3.5 thread).
Second, Full Hebrew ROM is not worth the effort.
If you do what that thread says with Valhalla 1.1 it works like a charm and with Hebfix and More Locale2 you'll get perfect Hebrew on all supported applications.
The only non Hebrew text you see is "Copy" and "Paste" in system apps.
Alon2 will probably try that on the new Valhalla Final and report.
I still didn't get to it (translating some apps to Hebrew).
But I will try it next month most probably.

Hi guys
I'm working for 3 days on Valhalla final (original version) with hebfix and it works flawlessly.
I also tried some tweaks and realized i got the best results with adrenaline shot 12.
I'm currently on KJ1 kernel (after also applying super user and super user binary CWM flashables to resolve the su binary outdated issue).
Along with 'autostarts' you got the fastest most stable Hebrew supporting SGS 4G on earth.

[Q] I own an original Korean Motoroi - what the hell can I do with it??

Hi all, long time lurker here.
At the title says, I own a Korean original Motoroi, here in Korea on SKT. The current ROM I'm running is STSKT_N_79.33.50R .
Like some others on this board have noted in the past, this phone, with it's slower CPU, is an under-powered P.o.S. When I first got this last year it had a 2.1(.1?) ROM on it and in December last year Motorola graciously decided to release 2.2 for it. Anyway, I'm sure most of you already know that.
Upgrading this thing to 2.2 was like my friend's iPhone 3G when he upgraded it to iOS4: it was a slow, buggy mess, randomly locking up, rebooting and "losing" images on the SD card after talking some photos ("Can not write to SDcard" errors.) - among other things. To make matters worse, there seemed to be a huge bug in the Korean/English soft-keyboard that meant the input application would often crash during text entry.
Then, a few days after Motorola Korea released the 2.2 upgrade with all the above problems, they then seemed to pull it and reverted back to the old 2.1 version on their website. A few weeks later, they released 2.2 again, perhaps with those bugs fixed.... but with the same version number, thus preventing the updater program from updating MY phone to whatever version they have on the site now. Grrrr!
Anyway, enough of that long story, here are my questions:
1. What can I do with this phone now? I see a lot of custom ROMs here for the XT720 Milestone, but I know that it's a slightly different phone to the Motoroi... also, I've been led to understand that the Motoroi has a locked bootloader... right?
2. If I can re-flash roms on this... what custom rom would be suitable? There's so many versions here on this board that it's a little confusing. Also, what would be the procedure(s) to install it?
3. If there's no suitable custom rom here for this... can/how I re-flash this thing back to the stock, original 2.1 SKT rom? At least that was slightly faster and more stable than the 2.2 rom...
Well, one thing I can't complain about this was the price: I paid only 20,000원 for this on a 1 year contract spending only about 15,000원 a mouth. SKT were practically giving them away: I can see why, now.
TIA.
hello newbie here.......
i have the same problem before when i upgraded my motoroi to 2.2.1 , but i just found out that you can still root, overclock and use custom kernel...
- use superoneclick to root
- to overclock i use milestone overclock 1.4.2 version and setCPU
- if you want to use custom kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990735 and use raser_motoroi_boot.7z
- i also using this to replace bootanimation and fonts http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888379
- my motoroi xt720 is now overclock to 1100g with 74vsel so far so good.....
- you can also use MOTOMIZER [optional]
hope this will help you dude....by the way i im also here in korea ang using KTF SHOW usim on my phone
here you guys go this guy made ROMS for motoroi, im not sure how well these work as i have not tried them. he has posted a bunch of them. the are for motoroi so you must start with motoroi firmware. and i cannot read his homepape as its in korean. so check em out. http://code.google.com/p/xt720/downloads/list
i will try this and according to dev. "No Rooting ROM created by the state, and wrote more attention to the theme, need to maintain a more stable and allows fast was created." but your phone must have 44R nonSKAF original rom, in think that is 2.1 update!
In KyuHyuk ROM for XT720 1.5.1 by removing some of the files have been lighter.
[KyuHyuk ROM for XT720 1.5.1 his LATEST ROM]
1. ROM File capacity is greatly reduced.
2. Factory reset, as soon KyuHyuk ROM can go to seed.
3. Apply a theme and icons HTC
4. Changes in the silent vibrating LockScreen
5. Latest Youtube App
6. Camera silence
7. If you install from SKAF may be used for Nate and Freezone.
8. Apply OverClock 720MHz
9. Remove DMB
10. FM Radio Removal
11. Removing 3D Warehouse
12. Remove Notepad
13. Remove Email
14. OCR, remove the business card recognition
15. Remove the user dictionary
16. Dock Removal
17. Remove TV OUT
18. Remove TTS
19. DCF (Melon) is playing!

Also, I'm running the stock SK 2.2 rom, do I have to downgrade to 2.1 to install these?

[Q] noob question about Gingerbread

Hey all...this is my first Android phone (coming from a long line of BB's) so please bear with me.
I managed to root my phone a few weeks ago using the instructions found on this site and it worked great! I wanted to update to Gingerbread 2.3.3 and found the "easiest" way to do so here:
http://androidadvices.com/how-to-up...-to-gingerbread-2-3-3-firmware/#comment-10119
Downloaded odin, flashed the ROM and everything seemed to work fine. I wont bore you guys with reading everything on that page, but it seems that that particular version was a bit buggy....especially with the missing dialed calls in the call log.
Now, I read another post as per the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146145
Is this the same version as I already downloaded? I just want to avoid the same issue with the call log.
Basically, all I want to do is to update my phone to the latest version of Gingerbread, the EASIEST way possible, and to get the most STABLE and best performing version. If I could avoid all the bloatware, then thats a plus!
I dont really care about rooting, or any other fancy features. I just want a good performing, quick and stable phone.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
download dsexton's modified build.prop and it will be more responsive, smoother and faster
Problem is that none of the gb roms out right now are official releases. They are leaks so they are supposed to be buggy. The devs here are working hard to get a full gb rom with recovery support asap.

ROM PersonaRedV4 help....

Hello, I just installed personaRedV4 ROM and I must say that I have solved many problems, the management of memopria seems great, the system is more fluid ....
but I have a vision problem on a red background, I wish I could even change the background of the market, for example, can not read the buttons to download, install, etc. ... the market for the app.
I read that installing GalaxyXT resolve some of these problems, but I have installed the V4 and should have already understood the GalaxyXt. But I still see the red background.
One last question, what do you think the best roms for XT720?
also exists here in the forum or a list of the Roma out so far?
Thank you all for your attention ...
ps I tried searching the forums for an solution to my problems, but I'm not good at English ....
I used google translator, ... ....

theres lots of roms for our phone now. you can look for the roms in the android development section of this forum for our phone. there's first of all dexters froyo rom, then khalpowers v4 roms which are heavily optimized and themed, then there's fjfalcons RusMod rom which is similar to khals rom except for the themes and its also in russian. there's also the MIUI rom which its interface looks slightly like the ios's. i like the lockscreen and the snappiness of this rom, but not the rest of the interface. currently im just rooted on stock 2.1 which im very happy with (i dont use flash much) because theres no bugs at all, and has a pretty good battery life compared to the custom roms. there's also the wanhu rom and cincinnati bell rom, but i havent tried them out yet.

I would say if you want 2.2 Froyo all things working like TV out and fm radio then Khalpowers WanHU is the best choice for now but the stock special might be as well it is new. If you want just speed and stability then Khalpowers MIUI Final V4. If you want the best stability and responsiveness and don't mind 2.1 you can try Mioze7Ae's 2.1 Eclair strikes back V2 He's done a real good job tweaking that. As of now I am on The Stock XDA Special and it is really nice with only a few subtle minor bugs that are being worked on. When that is complete it should be the top choice. I am using 3rdstring's theme Darkfroyo remix and it is pretty awesome.
Thanks for your answers, I installed the ROM Xtmiuioptimized is fantastic, everything works perfectly, the only thing I have left the market earlier that the ROM is with the black background, and I do not know how to change it ....
thanks

Arabic Support?

Any breakthroughs in Arabic support?
As of now, using a third party keyboard to type Arabic results in broken letters, displaying from left-to-right. Arabic is supposed to be RTL, and the letters are supposed to be connected.
I searched, but could only find info for the Droid 3 and original Atrix.
Thanks
Well dude we are in same the same boat .
there is a very easy solution for deoxeded roms here http://blog.devasque.com/how-to-apply-patch/
maybe lfaber06 can implement it in his roms
i would be very thanks-full to him
It's very weird, on my Atrix 2 I can view Arabic but the letters are not connected to each other (haven't tried typing)
But on my Droid Xyboard tablet running honeycomb I can view Arabic and the letters are actually connected,
Dunno why Honeycomb is acting different than Gingerbread in that respect
Sent from my Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1 with Verizon 4G LTE
i am not sure if HoneyComb doesn't have the RTL problem . but what i am sure of that is ICS doesn't have any problems with arabic , hopefully we would get official ICS sooner or later but till then we need our amazing developers include the above hack in their roms . i might also try to apply it my self once we get a good working safestrap.

Ill add it to the rom, but i'm not so interested in testing it. I cant read Arabic or any language other then English, I would have no idea if it was working correctly or characters are breaking. try it on your devices if it works, adb pull the files and give them to me. Also tell me what rom you are running.

[ROM][MOD]CM7.2 nightly with working camera and 100% battery (Defy+)

Hi all
I don't know if I can actually create a thread about that or if I should just post it somewhere else, if I'm doing something wrong please delete it and please don't ban me
So! Since I bought my Defy+ I've been searching everywhere, reading every post and lurking here and there to find a successful way to install CM7 on it.
Unfortunately, it seemed like a lost cause : there is no official version for it ( just for the small brother Defy ), every single version either didn't load or had problems, like inverted camera, not fully charging battery, APN problems and so on.
After several experiments and a pants-****ting soft brick, I managed to merge the perfect ( ? ) solution
le click
le alternative click
This is CM7.2 nightly version 111213 : I merged it with a working camera ( no inverted pics, no bugs, working selective touch to focus ) and a working battd ( it fully charges the Defy+ battery up to 1650 mAh, no "stop charging at 80%" or stuff like that ), both taken from different versions
I'm still testing it, but for now I can't find any problems whatsoever, it's smooth and stable for everyday use
Install it like every other CM rom ( flashing gapps included ), and if after the first restart you can't find any signal just restart and everything will work
I was going to post it in another thread, but since it's a very common problem I thought it was better if everybody was able to find it faster, again, if it's not " worth " of a proper thread just delete it and I'll post it somewhere else
Thanks a lot everyone, I'm learning more and more everyday about Android thanks to you!
P.S.
I honestly don't know if it will run on every single device, regardless of Defy/Defy+ and/or Android version, Kernel and stuff
So I'm posting info about my device, and whoever is in my same situation can flash this rom for sure
Defy+
Android 2.3.6 ( full sbf, the one you can't downgrade from )
Kernel version : 2.6.32.9-gbdd614e
A COUPLE OF THINGS
1) If you had problems flashing the zip ( like not being able to open it or whatever ) you can try to rename it with a shorter, no-space name. I uploaded it the way I flashed it on my phone, so it works like this on mine, but who knows
2) For every request ( adding T9 dialer, changing this and that ) I have to remind you this is just a CM7 nightly with a couple of modifications to have full working battery and camera on Defy+ : it means I have honestly no idea how to change anything CM-related, and for that I suggest you to ask in this or this thread, where there are actual CM developers who can probably help you

After several experiments and a pants-****ting soft brick, I managed to merge the perfect ( ? ) solution
le click

Hello, first there excuses my Englishman for whom it is bad. Podrias to a stable miui to correct the problem of the load of battery since you it have I begin in this rom? Thank you
Thank you !
It is a pleasure to have a fully working rom.
I just had a little problem when calling, after a minute or so, when the screen locks I can still hear people but they can't hear me.
Any clue how to fix that ? I am not even sure it is coming from this release but it is the first time it happens.

Do you mind to share the m5d checksum here? So we can check if our download is not corrupted.

The "regular" Defy users probably won`t flash this since they can easily download stable CM7.1 or 7.2 beta that will work with no problems. Those stuck on 2.3.6 should flash this
I have "regular" Defy with flashed 2.3.6 SBF (red lensed) and I confirm that is this ROM working fine with my phone Camera, battery etc so far no problems.
Why not simply sharing with everyone what you did to fix the battery charging problem? It can't be that complicated isn't it?
Because I know what you did for the camera ;-...
@Jojo
Yea sure, I used this one
@amediometro
I honestly didn't understand what you said..
@ateach
never encountered this problem sorry
@maymyk
I'm a bit ashamed about it, but I don't know how to do that if you explain me how to I'll be more than pleased to do it
@[] AL []
I thought to share the whole working rom instead of the small "fixes" and tell you "you do that yourself"
anyway I found a different version of the "battd" included in the CM Nightly and I put it inside the .zip overwriting the previous one, but I'm afraid I don't have it anymore, if you want it you can download the ROM and extract it, same applies for Camera.apk and overlay ( which you said you already know about )
I'm pretty sure I found it via android-hilfe, a german forum which is full of good informations, provided you either know german ( which I don't ) or have a lot of patience to go through the disturbing google translator
if I can help anyhow let me know, even thought there's not much I can really do, I'm not a CM developer, basically every problem you can get with this rom is about CM..
can we enable 720p record?
or can we change camera with the azar camera apk?
work fine I confirm
Ok thanks, I don't own a defy+ anyway; I was just curious to learn about your solution for the battery charging.
In fact, during the holidays, I thought of doing the same as you did; I wrote a guide about all the tweaks I use on the same nightly and realized that it was extremely long and that I'd better just share a nand backup instead...
I believe that the question from the guy that you did not understand was about the same issue (batt charging fix) on MIUI this time...
And I'm pretty sure that the flashing problems on p.1 is because your zip name has a space in it; you should rename it and re-upload or make that very clear in the OP at least.
Cheers
