Do I need Rom manager? What are the benefits from installing it if I already have clockwork mod recovery?
Anyone? Will I have conflict with clockworkmod recovery 5.x I don't want to mess something up?

I don't see there being a issue but honestly iv'e used both and i prefer 4ext.. it's much cleaner and better layout.. If this helps thank me =)
You don't need rom manager but I've found it to be useful. You shouldn't have any issues installing. It might just prompt you to update the ClockworkMod version if you don't have the latest.
Should not be an issue...but I don't have a need for RM!
Thanks to all!

I heard a little about the bootstrap thing, but what about the clockwork recovery?
I'm guessing they would both perform the same functions or is one different from the other?
Can anyone shed some light on this topic please? Sorry if its a repost.
EDIT: Now that I'm doing some more reading it seems like i need the bootstrap app anyway and then i put in clockwork recovery via rom manager?

That doesnt answer either of my questions, unless I"m not understanding and that koush's stuff includes clockwork. Not sure, can someone elaborate?

Clockwork and bootstrap are kind of the same. Install the bootstrap.apk and it allows you to get into clockwork...
You do not need to install clockwork from rom manager. Once you have bootstrap installed there is an option to boot into clockwork...
bootstrap is the way to install clockwork onto the droid2, rom manger will try to overwrite clockwork to the systems recovery and will prob brick your phone
I downloaded the Bootstrap and went into recovery and made a Backup. Then I downloaded Rom Manager. It flashed Clockwork Recovery without any issues.
how about amon_ra? has anyone gotten that on the droid 2? i use that on the EVO and LOVE it!
So how will we be able to flash cm7 when its ready... I have rom manager installed now can I flash it thru there or use the Nvaflash recovery?
Thanks for you responses in advance

Easiest way would be through recovery.
so is it safer to do a nvaflash it something goes wrong i can get it recovery that way with the button combo?
It'll be through recovery. No need to worry about getting the combo wrong with ROM Manager or Maxima's reboot app.
Hey guys, the only thing i've done to my G2X so far is rooted it, is there anything else I need to do to prepare for CM7?
Install ROM Manager, and use it to install ClockworkMod Recovery.

quick question about this.
I had the N1 and never rooted it. I got the G2X and right away I needed to get rid of the crapware. so it's rooted. So I'm a root noob
I just installed Rom Manage and see in the options where it says Flash Clockworkmod recovery. Do I need to download something and have on the SD to do this or is it a part of Rom Manager?
Thanks
It's part of ROM Manager. Tap it, select your handset and it will download and flash for you.

In the future, you will need the rom files on a micro SD card. So if you don't have one, you may want to order one.
Hi,
Just ran Alpharevx on Linux on my phone and all seemed successful. I have a question though, I don't seem to have root...
Even though Clockworkmod is installed if I go into recovery, SetCPU and ROM Manager both state I do not have root permissions, is there an extra step I'm missing?
Hi, why don't simply install a custom rom. Many custom roms out there come with root, backup, task manager, OC and etc. Once you get a hang of it, you might want to try your own build.

Thanks, any particular one you recommend that works well?
I myself think I'll go with this one. I like the stock experience so far, but with Sense 3.0 would be even better, especially since the "answer in my pocket" thing annoys the hell out of me (problem solved with Sense 3.0).

If you want a different experience then I don't know
You need to use gingerbreak. Search for it in the development section, its an app you run on your phone that installs root for you.
It may tell you that its not sure if it worked but that's normal, just reboot the phone and you will have root!

To root your stock ROM then use Ginger Break you can download a free market app called root checker to see if you have root.
I'd recommend that you also take a backup of your existing stock rom using either CWM or through rom manager backup before you install a custom rom.
I'd also suggest that you install LBC MOD custom....but try them all and decide for yourself.
I'd also recommend that you install 4EXT recovery rather than CWM as its an improved easier to use version of CWM which is updated very often.

Your quite right....you can't, I clearly was thinking straight.
I'll edit post above so as not to mislead.
Alpharevx installs clockworkmod recovery if you want.
With CWM you can make a full backup, the you can try some other ROMs. I am using virtuous unity and looks really well.

Although, you won't be able to take a successful NANDROID backup even with CWM unless you have rooted your phone.
So I used rom manager to try and flash cleardroid and when it started up i dont have a notification bar so i cant really operate it, also in my stupidity i wiped my sd card and phone which had titanium backup and my old rom. sooooo now i have no clue how to get any kind of rom on my phone and no notification bar to do any of this. Any help would be great.
First of all, what state is your phone in right now?

Use a microsd Adapted to copy a rom to the zip. Then flash the rom. Also might want to flash 4ext recovery as alot of roms dont support rom manager to flash them as Rom manager uses a version of CWM that doesnt work well. To be honest not many people even use Rom manager any more.
my phone is in Illinois. And yeah i thought i remembered hearing that noboody uses rom manager but i wants something simple to try and flash a custom rom. Ill try and find my SD adapter and try and flash a rom. Is 4ext recovery kind of like Rom manager?

4ext is a recovery...it is similar to ClockWorkMod, but not to Rom Manager. You will be able to flash a rom, make backups among other things, but there is no app, just gotta boot into recovery manually.

There is an app. It called 4ext recovery. Check it out in the market.
Hey, I want to install the AOKP ROM that I found here, but I need CWM 6.0.4 in order to flash it, but I already have a version of CWM in my Tablet. How do I update my CWM? Do I just install it as if i didn't have any CWM? Or is there something else I should do? Bascially, what am I supposed to do in order to update CWM? Thanks!

Just go ahead and flash the latest version from within your CWM recovery. BTW, may want to try TWRP because CWM is no longer going to be maintained. or updated. Just an FYI You can find the latest here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548476
