[Q] Problem with QXDM - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
First, sorry if I put this in the wrong section but I have searched and cant seem to find an answer anywhere else.
Is anyone else having a problem getting QXDM to start up? I have had it on my computer for about 3-4 months now and have used it a few times (Last time I remember for sure using it was about 3 weeks ago) I tried to use it today and I get an error after the little QXDM box pops up in the middle of my screen now. The error reads "Error initializing DIAG server" I tried uninstalling the program and re-installing but that does not help either. I am pretty sure it is version 3.09.19, is it maybe an old outdated version now?? Does anyone have a link to a newer one if that is the case? I just can't think of anything I have done to my computer recently that would have caused this problem? Does know what caused this and can help me fix it please?
Thanks in advance guys, you rock! I have learned alot from here but I am still a little bit of a noob so please do not laugh

Running as administrator actually giving the problem. If i click it straight way, it opens but fields are greyed out in NV browser.

Managed to run QXDM without administrator privileges and get the fields in NV browser to become editable, provided that QPST has connected to the target port (not port that keeps switching and cause phone to reboot repetitively. This previous condition was fixed by flashing another Android 4.1.2-based ROM over the previous 2.3.5-based ROM). Learnt that the editable value in "Input" column becomes editable with a 3-click command from mouse.

I am facing issue with I can try qxdm installation but once running it, it is showing qxdm tool is already installed. If u know any one please help me quickly and ASAP.

You'll have to be more specific. What is the exact error you're getting? And is there more information in the system log? Is everything right in your Windows device manager, or do you see any "!" signs? Please tell us everything involved, what Vista version, is Vista patched, device version, etc.
I have no problems with Vista myself. All my PPC devices were recognised correctly the first time, and I had to install or change nothing at all. Perhaps you have installed something that is interferring in some way.

[Q] CDMA Workshop or the like to make alterations for Nexus S 4G?

Does cdma workshop work with the nexus s? nexus s 4g? looking to get in there and alter what I can...hopefully the eri banner. thank you!!
edit: any other way to get in there would be good too. looking to change the sci, accolc, eri, etc, etc. thanks!
I am looking for the same thing.
If I can get the phone into diag mode, I should be able to get it working.
I am having trouble figuring out how to enter the diag mode.
The normal methods (##Code) doesn't work.
I played with CDMA Workshop earlier after installing EPST and have it not working. It looks like it would need a modified dongle to get the Nexus to enter DL or modem mode as the ## codes don't work. Using all other modes I can't seem to get the program to recognize I have the phone plugged in. I could be missing something but have yet to find anything relevant as a CDMA Nexus is the new crittter on the block.
Update on my previous post, to get the NS4G into D/L mode you hold both volume keys down while pressing the power on button for just a second. Now I just need to find the drivers for this mode.
Got it working!
Here are the steps. I am using Windows 7, I have the Android SDK installed, and Windows update gave me the drivers I need.
1. Make sure USB debugging is off.
2. Dial *#*#8778#*#*
3. Change both settings to Modem.
4. Windows 7 will install your drivers.
5. Add the correct com port, in QPST Config.
6. Open QPST Service Programming, and your all set.

i can view everything in cdma workshop. but when i click 'write', it tells me phone is asking for spc(6 digits). i assume this is my msl which i havent gotten yet for this device...
where do i enter the spc so that i can write changes? thank you!!!
edit: got my msl but i dont think its helping here...my main goal is to alter the sci, which i cant do without cdma workshop, yet. id also like to change the banner but nothing seems to be sticking. thanks for the help!
gotta change the banner, sci...
Last day of classes seems like a good time to tackle this issue.
Gonna continue tinkering around...hopefully we can change the SCI and eri banner(want mine to read 'Google' or 'Nexus S 4G').
Any help would be much appreciated and yield you a wookie life debt. Thank you!!!
Still messing around and I cant seem to find a way to make these alterations. Anyone else have any better luck? Skills?
Thanks!!!
Thanks for the dialer code .. much quicker than decompiling the apk.
I saw references to MSL in this thread and google brought it up as the first result for the ns4g, but no mention of how to obtain it.
For those wondering, getprop | grep MSL will show the MSL. If you don't have busybox installed (for grep), just type getprop after you after root in adb shell or terminal emulator/connectbot and scroll through the list of output, MLS will be in there.
Hope this helps save some time for people! Thanks Samsung and Google for keeping it simple! Thanks for this helpful thread!
when i change them both to modem nothing happens, what do di do when i change them.
with my unrooted s4g, i can access the info in cdma tools. i can connect, read the settings...when i attempt to write changes, sometimes it tells me the phone is requesting the spc. other times it will write certain things and fail writing others..regardless, nothing sticks. frustrating...hopefully i can hold off on rooting again until the 3d comes out...gotta be a way to make it happen without rooting(wishful) or editing eri.xml but if this the only way to make changes to sci, banner, etc; im gonna have to wait until i play with the evo3d...really dont wanna wipe data again
WITH BOTH QPST AND CDMA WORKSHOP, I AM ABLE TO READ THE PHONES SETTINGS BUT I CANT WRITE TO IT. woops, sorry bout the caps.
anyway, when i click write, some things write and others dont. then when i click read, the banner is recognized as google even though it reads sprint on my phone still. often time when i click write in cdma workshop, it tells me phone is requesting spc, spc is required.
update: it seems that the sci and access overload class have stuck to the values that i chose. however, the main goal for me is to alter the banner to read 'Google'.
any input is much appreciated. thank you!
By any chance, are there any tutorials or has anybody successful flashed a Hybrid PRL USING cdma workshop??
Samsung phones such as the Moment and Epic 4g need 'default password' sent to unlock the nvitems to be writeable. Has anyone thought of this or tried this? Maybe the Epic 4g password works?

Ace Hack Kit
That will walk you through the root/s-off/unlock process. It's been VERY much simplified over time, now it's just a 1 step process. Read the effen manual a few times before you start - but like I said, at this point it's very straight-forward.
Once installed hit up the MIUI thread. Basically you'll download the ROM to your SD, boot to recovery, perform a wipe, and flash the ROM
And thank you for your service and dedication to this wonderful country of ours!
He said the adb drivers won't connect
Any specific error messages? At what point is this happening? Is he trying to run the hack kit or just trying to access an ADB shell?
The hack kit contains all necessary adb files/drivers
Make sure he's done all of this:
Make sure HTC USB Drivers for Android are installed (included in the Hack Kit @ tools/windrivers)
Disable all malware detection, including Windows Defender
Uninstall HTC Sync
Uninstall Droid Explorer
Uninstall iTunes or stop service
Uninstall Other phone pda or tablet software
We just tried on our lunch we disabled everything the HTC drivers were already installed with sync uninstalled. We were at the pre-step where you run the command as an admin and the command window comes up for a second and closes itself. Does his phone need temp root to run the kit?
trouble rooting my phone
when i run the hack as admin on windows 7 it give an error message this is what the error message says
check adb connectivity
shad0fox04/2011
service not running
error error error
phone not plug in or driver not installed or usb debugging not enable
error error error
pres any key to continue the it just cut off i checked all of that and everything is good to go so what is the problem lol
did u ever find out y adb wont connect im having d same problem

Has he by any chance tried a different USB port? And is the phone in charge only mode, it's not mounting itself as a disk drive automatically? I don't know how feasible it might be, but if he has another computer available try running it there and see if you get any different results. At least then we might be able to narrow down better whether it's the software, the computer, or the phone.

Another simple thing that I have to ask about...you guys did extract all the contents of the hack kit somewhere on your computer, correct? You're not trying to run it from the .zip?
If it is extracted,
go to the tools\win\ directory.
Hold Shift and Right-Click in an empty spot, select "open command window here"
type "adb devices" and hit Enter
You should see 12 alpha-numerics listed under "List of devices attached"
If you don't see anything under this, then for some reason adb isn't recognizing your phone is plugged in. In which case I'd try a different USB port or computer

thanks for the reply, i have already done this and it is not working. The samsung driver is not the issue, its the general serial control driver that is the problem. Is there any other way to get this rom on my phone. I think kies really sucks.
Help anyone?

Hi Gabriel. What, exactly, is happening? I'm not sure what general serial control driver you're referring to. Can you be more specific on what operating system you're on, if it's 32 or 64 bit, and what you were doing & what errors pop up?
You can get the Odin version that Raver put in the development section... It's completely stock

I am on xp 32 bit, when kies finishes downloading the binary files and finishes extracting them is when i am having the problem. As soon as my phone goes into download mode my pc asks me to install new hardware or basically a driver. It asks for the general serial. I have tried every driver package i have been able to find with no success.
Thx for all the help

Have you ever connected your phone to this computer via USB to utilize the mass storage mode, flash a ROM, or anything?
It almost seems as if device manager is a bit confused. Click on Start, Run, and type cmd and press Enter.
That will open a command prompt. In the command prompt type:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and press Enter
Type:
devmgmt.msc and press Enter
That will open device manager. On the menu bar at the top, click View then select Show hidden devices.
Anything not recognized by the PC should have a yellow triangle (or circle..doing this from memory) with an exclamation point in it. I'm not sure where the 'general serial' device would be listed but if you see it, right-click on it and select Uninstall.
Expand both "Modems" & Universal Serial Bus controllers" & uninstall anything that has Samsung Android USB Composite Device, Samsung USB Composite Device, Samsung Mobile Device, Samsung Mobile Modem, etc.
Once that's done, try reinstalling the drivers either through Kies mini or through one of the other downloads.
Thanks for the help Stephen,
unfortunately i have not had success. I tried all you posted with no luck. Hey Gabriel, sorry that didn't work out. As for the parsing error, I would probably just uninstall and reinstall Kies. Although this doesn't specify our model of phone it does reference USB drivers & may offer assistance:

[Q] Windows RT Jailbreak Tool Not Working

I have a Surface 2 Windows RT tablet and I'd like to run TightVNC on it. My googling has lead me to believe I can accomplish this if my Surface is jailbroken. I have downloaded version 2 of the jailbreak tool and when I run it I am prompted for UAC and a second DOS window pops up that says "Error: the system can't find the specified registry key or value" that flashes and disappears. I'm still unable to launch TightVNC after this.
Can someone guide me as to what I'm doing wrong with this tool? Thanks!
