Hi
Is there a way to add an app to an ignore list for the stock task manager?
Thanks.
I'm fairly certain that answer is no. I relied on the stock Task Manager for the longest time(i still use it now, just not primarily) and I never found out how to add an exception, I even posted a thread here asking the very same question and got no reply, which led me to believe others didn't know how to add exceptions either. Just download GO Launcher EX and give that a shot. I can never go back to the ****ty stock TW Launcher after trying it, plus it has a built in Task Manager where you can easily lock an app so it will never be closed by the "Kill all tasks" option and can only be killed by manually clicking it and hitting close.
If you use Go Launcher you can go into the option that says choose locked apps so it wont kill apps when you hit close all apps. Is that kinda like what you want? Dont use Task Killer as most say not to use it anyhow. Go Launcher you can see what is running and close all or just some, see recent looked at or all apps.

So its a new year and I have a new toy,
I seem to have a set of apps that give me the functions and control I desire.
Its down to Launcher.
I did pay for the upgrade to the AWD EX and to my dismay it does not recognize old settings and desktop configurations. But hey.. Just more tinkering with my new SHINY...
My plan now that I have pretty much decided on the apps I want on the phone is to go to the Pick and Pack ROM with the Voodoo Kernel.
I do want to do some testing with the 3 different Launchers (AWD, Launcher Pro, and TW) and see which will suit my needs for Eye Candy and function..
OK.. to the question at hand. I will have all three on the phone installed. I do not like having to choose between the three every time I hit the HOME button. Is there a way to change the default once it is set ?
Hope to do a review for Noobs like me as I go.
Download the app home switcher and you can choose your default.

Home switcher is good stuff!
I prefer HomeSmack but either one works.

If you do not want to use a home switcher you can use the built in one. When you hit home button, there should give you the option on which launcher you want to use. There is also a check box in this window that says use by default (or something like that I never read it) hit the check box then which program you want to go to. Now if you change your mind down the road all you have to do is go to menu-> settings->applications->manage applications Once in here you will find the program in question and click on it then clear defaults then it will start asking you again.

Thats what I was looking for.. Thanks..
HAHA As with all good gadgets, there is always a way to make em do what you want to do. Its usually just a simple matter of Banging ones head against the wall a few times and then asking those who know..
So far I like Launcher Pro the best, even though I don't use any of the widgets. Which one did you end up using as your default?
This is probably a stupid question, but I do like ADW but I really like the task manager widget from samsung.... anyway I can get that widget on ADW?
Unfortunately I have not found a way to use the stock Samsung widgets with ANY other Launcher other than Touch Wiz..
But by checking the various forums and doing some research on Market I can usually find something that will fill the need.
You can't have the widget on any other launcher, but if you hold down the home button to bring up the recent app switcher thing you can hit the Task Manager button on the bottom of the popup. It takes you to the same thing as tapping the samsung widget.
Good point... I forgot about that... if I need it bad enough I can put a shortcut for that app on the home screen too...

is there any honeycomb friendly task manager or stock tracking Widgets?
I like to put them on the home screen but the ones I found are quite small for use on tablets.
I have never used a stock widget. As for the task manager, you don't need one. Android manages task on its own. If you happen to get a stuck app, go to settings, apps, manage apps, then find the app and stop it.

I know that's the argument about android task manage in a perfect world.
However, in actual usage I get STUCKED apps all the time. For example, if I don't disconnect from team viewer before jumping to another it gets stuck... This make it very cumbersome to go to settings app all the time.
I really need something on the home screen to kill these sticker apps.

Use Active Apps. It doesn't manage or autokill, just a widget that gives you a list of running apps and lets you close one or all with a single button. Very easy.
As for a stock ticker widget....I would love to find one too. Can't imagine there isn't one out there somewhere.

Is there a multitasking app or program i can use with the infuse,I dont like using taskmanager!
Are you just trying to switch between recently used apps? Hold down your home key and your last couple of apps opened will pop up.
You can also use Advanced Task Killer (but don't kill tasks, unless an app is misbehaving) -
Make sure you peruse the settings so that autokill is OFF and security is HIGH (to avoid showing system processes). Also, it'd really help to configure the tap action to "select/unselect" so that you don't accidentally kill anything.

I think Visual Task Switcher is as close as you'll get.
There's also QuickDesk, Tasking, and Swipepad.
Is it possible to add exceptions to Task Manager? You know, the one that comes preinstalled on the phone. I have Juice Defender and I keep accidentally closing it, I'd like to add an exception to Task Manager to not even have JD show up, there have been a few apps I just didn't even bother installing because it says to add an exception to your Task Killer and I'm pretty sure you can't do that.
solution ?
Have you found a solution to this problem yet? I also have the same problem. Every time I want to kill an application the manager would kill everything. It would be great if there was a way to add exception. Solution would be to use a third party application. But I don't want to do it. WhenI was on stock rom. I had few maps that would always run. Now they get killed too. Widget locker. What's app. Gtalk
Any solution ?
Hmm. Maybe use Loopy Smoothness to keep apps locked in memory? The TM might kill it but it would come right back.

There is no exception list for stock task manger. If you have Go launcer EX, you can add app exception to "lock app" list and you can use Go launcher to kill apps, except for the one in your white list. This is why 'Go launcher" is the best launcher.
The stock task manager is crap! get a better one from the market. I use ES task manager. Also I used to use juicedefender but I stopped cuz it isnt that great. I now use Antutu's Battery Saver which is a million times better.

Hey, i haven't found anything in our forums about this, and the search function yeilded no forseeably helpful threads, so here i am. I apologise for my low post count, and would like to emphasise that i will try any solution.
Is there a way to whitelist an app from the system task manager? I often use it but would like to whitelist some apps such as widgetlocker that need not be terminated when i do a "clear all".
I am comfortable with cwm, adb, smali/baksmali and apktool. Thanks for any help.
Infuse, ZEUS ROM
Download a custom task killer like advanced task killer, and whitelist whatever you like
I use advanced task manager and it will whitelist apps. You can get the paid version for free on getjar.

I have used atk in the past, i like the stock better. Accessible via task switcher and no notification clutter just wondering...
Infuse, ZEUS ROM
1. Launch key mapped to long press on search soft key
2. Launch key internally invokes ATK
3. ATK configured not to get into notification bar
This is my current setup, and works better than stock task manager.
got it working (launchkey.apk) niice
