[Q] After Using Advance Task Manager - items still show up in "recent" menu

so i'm using an advance task killer (blue icon) and whenever i end all open apps
it tells me "advanced task killer ended "x" apps" but all the apps remain open in the recent app window in their current state..
is there an alternative way to remove the apps from the recent menu all at once?
i'm new to honeycomb..

I use Active Apps & Watchdog to kill apps. Both in the market.

It's a Recent Apps list. Not a running in the background list.
All Android since 1.0 (T-Mobile G1, the first Android phone), there's been a recent app list. You press and hold the Home button. On Android 3.0 for tablets, there is a dedicated button.
In Android 3.1, the recent app list has been extended to more than 5 shown. It's now 14/15

You don't need to manually quit apps on Android. I get 15-20 hours battery with heavy use.

How in the world do you get that much usage....is the screen on 1% brightness and radio off?...

I just leave the screen on auto brightness. The battery on these things is excellent.

I am new to not just Honeycomb but android all together. I think that it is completely asinine that there isn't an easy way to stop/close apps. when you bring up the recent app list if you tap & hold you should be given the option to close that app/window.

An "app" called Android. Honeycomb caches and/or kills apps on its own. Try it without the killer. Start angry birds, exit and then go back....

So what is a GOOD and FUNCTIONING Task Manager app for the HoneyComb platform? I am using ZDBOX for my Thunderbolt, but it is NOT compatible with HoneyComb.
I use Task Manager to monitor which apps is USING too much battery, not killing them. It's must faster to use this type of app than going to Settings -> Applications and wait for the apps to be listed.
For example, I use ZDBOX in my Thunderbolt and notice that Skype is running in the background ALL THE TIME, using 11 to 25 Mb even when I am not using it for the whole day. Battery life begun to suffer, so I uninstall it.

The way android works is that if an app is using a service that needs to be ran in the background, you'll find it in that list in the application menu. Otherwise, it gets cached, so it will restore faster when you you open it again. Plain and simple, if you need to use a task manager for an Android app, it's either a poorly designed app - possibly containing something bad, or you need to shut down all the services the app needs - which should be a rare occasion if it's a worthwhile app.
What are you trying to kill so often?
If it's something that you've told is okay to run in the background, when you kill it, it probably starts up again. Using a task manager to kill these means your phone is constantly starting up and killing a service, which isn't good for battery life.

Must not be playing much flash. That eats it up.
watchdog not only will let you kill apps but tell you if any are overachivers
if things get out of hand press and hold the power button for a clean restart

I think if you go through settings and look for running apps, you can kill them. You app murderer.

That's why I need a Task Killer: to kill those poor-behaving apps. I don't use the Task Killer very often, though.
For example: I use an app called Flight Track. I don't fly very often, but I do fly more than average (once to twice a month, sometimes none in a month). This app is running in the background ALL the time. But on months I don't fly, I do not need this app to run in the background. So I kill the app and it does NOT start again in the background until I manually start the app.

Multitasking

Is there a multitasking app or program i can use with the infuse,I dont like using taskmanager!

Are you just trying to switch between recently used apps? Hold down your home key and your last couple of apps opened will pop up.
You can also use Advanced Task Killer (but don't kill tasks, unless an app is misbehaving) -
Make sure you peruse the settings so that autokill is OFF and security is HIGH (to avoid showing system processes). Also, it'd really help to configure the tap action to "select/unselect" so that you don't accidentally kill anything.

I think Visual Task Switcher is as close as you'll get.
There's also QuickDesk, Tasking, and Swipepad.

How to clear recent apps list?

Honeycomb comes with a "Recent" apps list, by pressing the 3rd button from the bottom left. The icon looks like 2 rectangles with one overalpping each other.
Unfortunately, this list grows too large after a while and the only way to clear it is to reboot. This makes the list cumbersome to use.
Is there a way to EITHER:
- Clear the list
- Limit the number of the list

I did a quick search and didn't find anyway of clearing it aside from restarting. I will try a few apps tomorrow and see what i come up with.

For this very reason, I have been restarting my Tf a lot more often than it needs.
I wish there is an easy way to kill running apps and clear the list like in the ipad/iPhone.

You can kill apps with a taskmanager.

I like the way Android handle multitasking by showing recent apps instead of just running apps, but the ability to remove any apps from the list would make it more perfect. I hope it will be implemented in future.

I have found myself looking for a feature like this as well. Hoping they throw it in an updated version of Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwhich...

But that requires finding and opening the task manager app, selecting/deselecting what you want to kill, pressing the kill button, then hitting the home button to get back home. Since I got my Transformer, I can't help but compare the OS in some ways to my iPhone. With jailbroken iOS, I just simply press and hold the home button to quit/kill the app, and that's it. The current Android task manager method just can't be compared with the simplicity of the iOS method of killing apps.
Don't peg me as a "fanboy". I love different technologies and enjoy competition because it just give me more options and products to play with

I just navigate to "settings>applications" area; and use the "force close" for whatever I don't want to see.

You should be able to bring up the recent app list & give you the option. This could either be done by providing an X to close that program. Another option could be to click & hold on the program in the list to ge given the option. I think Google needs to change this in the next update.

So far it seems that task killers or use what rpavich said. We could ask a dev of they could if they could add the little x that jadesse said.

The ideal solution would be a long press on the thumbnail would give you the option to kill the app, remove from list or both.
I'd love to see that in future OS versions.

First we complain about not being able to scroll the list in 3.0, now we complain about the list being too long?
I doesn't bother me but the option would be nice. Rather than a hold, i would like to drag the screenshot away and "toss it" a la WebOs flick up.

You know, sometimes I wonder if Google even beta tests.
Some of these issues, probably, would have been caught or suggested early on in the beta testing process.

How to add an exception to Task Manager?

Is it possible to add exceptions to Task Manager? You know, the one that comes preinstalled on the phone. I have Juice Defender and I keep accidentally closing it, I'd like to add an exception to Task Manager to not even have JD show up, there have been a few apps I just didn't even bother installing because it says to add an exception to your Task Killer and I'm pretty sure you can't do that.

It would be great if there was a way to add exception. Solution would be to use a third party application. But I don't want to do it. WhenI was on stock rom. I had few maps that would always run. Now they get killed too. Widget locker. What's app. Gtalk

Hmm. Maybe use Loopy Smoothness to keep apps locked in memory? The TM might kill it but it would come right back.

There is no exception list for stock task manger. If you have Go launcer EX, you can add app exception to "lock app" list and you can use Go launcher to kill apps, except for the one in your white list. This is why 'Go launcher" is the best launcher.

The stock task manager is crap! get a better one from the market. I use ES task manager. Also I used to use juicedefender but I stopped cuz it isnt that great. I now use Antutu's Battery Saver which is a million times better.

[Q] Widget Locker into the systems?

I'm using Widget Locker. Nice app. However it's annoying me because its process not running in the back ground (like system files) but instead running like an app. So everytimes I go to "task manager" to clear running app in the background. I can't just clear all to save my baterry. It will close Widget Locker (i have manually close one by one app). Is there a way to integrate it to system files so I won't see it in the "Task Manager".

Try an app from the market called Watchdog. It is a really good app that lets you real time see processes and cpu usage and it will alert you on thresh holds of over usage. You can individually kill those processes which may be inadvertently over using your phone and eating up your battery. Task killers just blanketly kill apps and processes. Some of which restart right back up chewing up you cpu and also wasting precious battery. So doing this continuously will just overwork and kill your usage time on the phone. If you precisely pinpoint the app causing issues you can leave the phone to manage the application as it is designed to do and also you may notice other regularly used apps opening quicker and more responsive. Give it a try and keep us posted.

I'm using Go Launcher. It has a built in task manager that also allows you to lock app so you don't close them by accident. Have my Widget Locker app Locked. Hope this helps also. And I think this should be in the Q&A Section.
