How to keep important apps running/open :) set androids mem priorities straight!!!! - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I saw a few people complaining about memory management i havnt tried this script on honeycomb because i havnt had need to but most these roms support init.d scripts so thought i would share
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15010845
That link is for a script called smoothness aka loopy smoothness once you set it up you can have your launcher etc locked in memory
You can also set priorities for youre music player so its one of the last to get killed or stays in memory so on and so forth
Have a read and hope this helps some people
IF THIS SHOULD BE IN DEVELOPMENT OR GENERAL MODS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MOVE IT

(FIX) Wake from lockscreen delay on Cm7

I had this problem and after many hours of messing with my phone I figured this out. I downloaded setcpu. Set the gov to on demand. Go to profile and set a profile for screen off. Max frequency to about 692 and Min frequency to 128. Now this may or may not work for you. It worked for me everytime.

Well known problem for sure. I always set minimum CPU to 384 and the problem completely goes away. On a side not your probably going to get grief for posting this here.

I think all he was trying to tell you was this is a know fix for wake lock and although you feel its a "Development" thing many others probably will not. I probably would of posted this in General or change the header to say [FIX] BLAH BLAH BLAH....
You may or may not get flack just depending on if people ignore the thread or not but thanks for your input and I am quite sure this may help some people. Not flaming you just trying to help shed some light for you

Poor gaming performance on kk4 based roms

My phone always seemed to run about every game I threw at it flawlessly till I went to kk4. I'm on my third kk4 rom now and while everything seems lightning quick otherwise, my games seem to stutter quite a bit. I was just trying mc2 and every minute or so the game would stutter and go into the pause menu. Madden 12 is unplayable. Just picked up trial x2 and the first one ran flawlessly on my old froyo roms but again stuttering issues. What can I do to improve this? Clear memory before I launch?

So anything 3D intensive seems to run terrible right now. Very frustrating. Any suggestions? Everything will do the sudden hesitation, nothing is really playable right now. Help someone! Suggestions please!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Try ICS.. My games are faster and smooth than kk4 roms.
I wonder if this is drm related and titanium backup based issue. Because it'll run stuff just fine for maybe 20 seconds then it'll just pause, the screen will flash black and then it'll kick back on and run fine for a bit before it does it again.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Are you running a ROM that includes the thunderbolt tweaks or that has modified the LMK?
I'm currently running stocky 2.2.3 voodoo lag fix enabled, no other modifications
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
You might want to check that you don't have any scripts hanging around in your init.d folder. Also, check the options for that kernel in CWM. I belive it changes your I/O scheduler and your Governor.
OK stupid question time where is the init.d folder and what do I look for when I get there and wouldn't flashing a new rom clear that anyway?

Not a stupid question at all. Some ROMs are no wipe and don't actully reformat certain areas of the system or data partitions.
/etc/init.d <---I would just check to make sure the folder is empty. If you have anything in there, move it to your SDCARD and then reboot.
OK checked the folder its empty and there were no performance tweaks options in the recovery, it's samauri kernal Btw.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I had to go read what was in that kernel as I haven't used that one yet. This is the only part that concerns me:
topiratiko's ORAM+ inspired LMK settings (not exactly the same but similar)
LMK settings can mess with game play if they are set too high. You could try flashing one of the corn kernels or even the stock kernel to see if that improves it for you. I think you would have to convert back to RFS but I'm not sure. I know Corn does support ext4.
If its no better, you could always flash back to Samuri.
Yeah I was on the corn kernel when I was on Saurom, no voodoo but ext formatting options

EXT4 = Voodoo lag fix
Corn also has the Voodoo Color and Voodoo Sound
Yeah I'm aware of that, wonder if it matters or not if I disable the lagfix before I install the corn kernel
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Check the OP post. I think you have to because the first time it boots it defaults to rfs and then you setup ext4 in the CWM
Cool I'll try swapping kernals when I get off work in a bit. Thanks for the help!

Well I'm on the corn kernal now and sadly nothings changed. I'm using asphalt 6 to test and since it has 3D cars in the menu, the same hesitation happens in the menu.... Hey I just had a thought, could it have to do with having the games on the sd card instead of internal memory?

It could. Try moving it to the internal memory and see if that improves things.
And I just moved asphalt to internal memory and no dice this is really frustrating me, and I'm on my third kk4 rom, i'm really starting to think at&t and samsung broke this rom somehow. I love the speed but it might be time to go back to cyanogenmod

A direct link to it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276. I actually stumbled upon it today and it seems to be working wonders on my ICS.:good:
I found it. Reading up on it now... Looking forward to this one.
so still reading.... kids are distracting me and making me lose focus... So I'm gonna ask a question I shouldn't have to.... Can I install just the supercharger starter kit and then move on to step two of post two? Or do I need to install files from post one as well?

I would install BusyBox from that post because there are reported issues with other versions of it. Then just use SManager and run the script as SU.
Most of the ROMs have tweaks built in. But for tweaks specific to our device, I have some I am doing testing on now. I will probably post them this weekend. And just so you have an idea, I am on my GummyMutt ROM at the moment at 22 hours uptime (off charger) and at 58% battery. I have the launcher transitions set to cube and it just snaps to the next screen very quickly and smoothly. Boot time is also increased by about 20 seconds, and the data speeds are noticably amped up as well (currently on 3G).

So do you think that v6 Supercharger could cause more issues than not with the built-in tweaks? I don't mind having to restore my phone and start from scratch again, but don't want to waste that time if I don't have to.

Ultimately, it depends on the ROM you are on and wether or not you have the built in tweaks (liberty tweaks) turned on... Basically, if you turn on the built in tweaks after installing supercharger, you will have issues. Not-to-mention, supercharger is not specific to our device, nor are most of the built-in tweaks...

Yeah. I figured that.... I did run into an issue that caused my system to start FCs when I tried to run supercharger. One clicked and started fresh.
I'm willing to test any tweaks in development if you need ppl. Otherwise I'll wait and see what your guys are cooking and just keep learning.

[Q] Should I add BLD?

Okay, now I built a kernel and shared it, people are asking me to add things.
First up, should I add BLD?
Vote above!
Build it to your standards once done than you can start adding stuff that users may ask and see how it rides out
Agreed. Stability is top priority then start adding little features. I use BLD on Matr1x V22 bfs but I could live without it. I am going to try yours out soon since V1 is out. Congrats.

I do feel a little bit like if hundreds of people are downloading it, then it's become something more than a personal project.... But then, maybe people are intrested by something a little more stripped out?

That's true. It's out there and a lot of people are going to try it. If something is highly requested than you should consider it. This is young still but it is already growing beyond your personal kernel project. Thalamus and others don't always add things just because people like it. Stay true to what you want... Marmite and all

This poll feels like a loaded question...
Actually I find bld one of the more useful features, but I don't know how much extra work it is and how it affects stability. I remember Franco being opposed to it on stability grounds.

Oh yeah, i remember that too. Bld isn't much work to add though. But i want to keep non critical mods to a minimum.
I'd say it'll never end. You'll add BLD, then someone would want this, after some bickering you'll add it and soon as you'll notice, your kernel is going to be bloated same as the others :]
I actually run 0.6, would flash 0.7 or newer if I oc'd or ever used other governors then ondemand , but it's running so perfectly and smooth as CM9 kernel never did + it has MTP, so I don't want to ruin that experience.
Stability comes first & If BLD affects performance por stability-then No..(I dunno about BLD has some side-effects)
You are an expert, Just stick ur principle..
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
These are my two cents:
Most installed ROMs are either AOKP, CM9, RASCREAM.
AOKP offers softkey navigation bar ala Galaxy nexus. Some peeps may like it and therefore may want BLD to cancel off the default nav buttons on our nexus S.
I use a variation of AOKP and turned to morfic kernel because of bld, I personally don't use the softkey mod on the ROM but I use BLD to reduce to only half a second for my nav buttons lights to stay on and use LMT launcher to access my menus (this app is pretty handy since it overlays on the side of your phones making your thumb more efficient and fast).... If you have not heard of this app it is here on xda.
That's basically my main use for BLD and the fact I'm actually saving a little more battery. Imagine the fact I'm browsing the web, reading articles and whatnot for two hours straight (I have) the fact I can disable the lights with BLD may indeed save some more juice to our batteries.

Stick with stability, like others have said. You could always do what TerryHau did with his kernel. Have one with some features and the other with those features and a few others added on. Either way, it's your work, dude. Do what you wanna do!
Bedalus question for you: is bld something that can make a kernel instable?
Others have it and they work just fine.

Well Franco said it made things unstable, but i don't think it would with my kernel. It might have been incompatible with some of Franco's tweaks.

so far... the best tweak was the disabling the sleepers... i did do the Internet tweaks... i got some of the best speed test results yet since I had the phone... but the Internet ping was short... so it may be because I was extremely close to a server...and my 4G at home is ok but not a clean 4g...so that test is not reliable... i would say it's a user preference

I use Tweaked 3.1 as my rom and it has always been best using ondemand for the governor... some people have used smartass when over clocking (tegrak is the only one so far reported to actually work to over clock our stock kernel) but this governor setting is not as good for battery consumption...so far I have only tested on demand(which I think is in dslices build of tweaked) some of these settings are new that I have not even heard of till this pimp my rom came out... One that comes to mind is the brazillion... the hardware excelleration I turned on but I left the force gpu settings off(I never tried it) because in the description it said it increased ram usage and the driod charge as one of its main complaints is lack of ram... these tweaks are so easy you can play and remove them as needed... that's what makes them great... it's you phone and you can make it like you like it...and if something really makes you happy... share it... please!... lol
