ICS Tweaks - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Has anybody come across any tweaks ICS that will work on all the different flavors that we now have?

They're being worked on, but not finished. You can try ravers ROM though, he has tweaks already included

A direct link to it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276. I actually stumbled upon it today and it seems to be working wonders on my ICS.:good:

I found it. Reading up on it now... Looking forward to this one.

so still reading.... kids are distracting me and making me lose focus... So I'm gonna ask a question I shouldn't have to.... Can I install just the supercharger starter kit and then move on to step two of post two? Or do I need to install files from post one as well?

I would install BusyBox from that post because there are reported issues with other versions of it. Then just use SManager and run the script as SU.

Most of the ROMs have tweaks built in. But for tweaks specific to our device, I have some I am doing testing on now. I will probably post them this weekend. And just so you have an idea, I am on my GummyMutt ROM at the moment at 22 hours uptime (off charger) and at 58% battery. I have the launcher transitions set to cube and it just snaps to the next screen very quickly and smoothly. Boot time is also increased by about 20 seconds, and the data speeds are noticably amped up as well (currently on 3G).

So do you think that v6 Supercharger could cause more issues than not with the built-in tweaks? I don't mind having to restore my phone and start from scratch again, but don't want to waste that time if I don't have to.

Ultimately, it depends on the ROM you are on and wether or not you have the built in tweaks (liberty tweaks) turned on... Basically, if you turn on the built in tweaks after installing supercharger, you will have issues. Not-to-mention, supercharger is not specific to our device, nor are most of the built-in tweaks...

Yeah. I figured that.... I did run into an issue that caused my system to start FCs when I tried to run supercharger. One clicked and started fresh.
I'm willing to test any tweaks in development if you need ppl. Otherwise I'll wait and see what your guys are cooking and just keep learning.

Supercharger works great on One X

I just figured I would throw a quick post in here letting everyone know that the Supercharger Script and Kick Ass Kernalizer by Zeppelinrocks is awesome.
This script is easily set up and runs using script manager in the play store. As far as performance increase goes my results are this:
No more "Loading" when returning to the homescreen randomly.
Much smoother transitions when using widgets and scrolling the launcher.
Phone doesn't get laggy after days of use like it did when stock.
Battery life improves (small but still noticeable)
WiFi performance improved.
Multitasking improved.
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276 for instructions on how to set up and make sure to click the link that says latest files for all the scripts you will need.
I used the custoomizer min free calculator because the hp 768 is a little aggressive when it comes to multitasking since ics uses more ram for cached apps. I also used the kick Ass Kernalizer and applied the io scheduler tweaks.
Hope this helps some people. Make sure to hit zepplin and wraithdu's thanks buttons and let us know if this makes a good improvement for you.

is your ROM deodexed? if I recall correctly, his stuff really only works on deodexed ROMs. just curious, I could be wrong.
Go to original thread, click get latest files here. Download the supercharger script and kick Ass Kernalizer. Now go to market download script manager.
Open script manager and select to browse as root. Now browse your download folder and click on the supercharger script. When it opens the options window choose fav and root buttons then click save (to make it fast to get to later.) Now click run.
This script goes through some user options at first. Many times is reading instructions will get you through. When it ask you to enter an option you need to scroll up the list and find which options you would like.
When I was asked about it I went ahead and chose the custom min free values.
You can also use the 768 option but I think it is too aggressive.
After that I ran the fix emissions, detailing and the engine flush. Now choose option 31 to close the script. Then hit back.
Now browse and choose the kick Ass Kernalizer script and do the same in the options menu. This script is super easy to use.
Choose "k" when asked then choose "Y" (if you want) to apply the io scheduler tweaks.
Finally, browse to /data/ and click on 99supercharger and choose root, boot, fav and save. Exit then do the same for 98kickasskernalizer. Exit then scroll up to find the v6 folder and click on each of the scripts that were saved there : should be fix emissions, detailing, engine flush. Choose fav root and save.
Now reboot the phone.

It works fine as an oom priority changer and for the kernel tweaks. What it can't do is modify the services jar which is required for bulletproofing the launcher. That being said, The launcher hasn't had to redraw once since this script makes android better handle which apps are closed and when then are closed. Furthermore there is a new deodexing tool out that I have yet to try. Anyone who wants to try that, should be able to.upload their /system/framework/services.jar file to android.mimic.ca so that they can patch it which will allow supercharger to also bulletproof the launcher.

I will try to write up a cleaner install process when I get near a computer.
In the mean time, don't be scared, this script is fairly harmless, it really just adds to the build prop and other tweaks. Report back your mileage.

No. It has nothing to do with overclocking. It simply changes the build.prop and tweaks the io scheduler and some other stuff. Like I said, it's working great on my phone, just don't expect higher quadrant scores.

Some people with slower devices have reported that playing graphic intensive games can become laggy. But the benefits much outweigh the cons and gaming is.extremely snappy on this phone so there is no real drawback.
And as to why HTC and google don't do it: that can be said about overclocking under volting, and pretty much any of the cool **** our developers enable for us.

[Q] [ROM] Ethereal 1.2

hi everyone,
this is actually directed to Jscott, regarding the ethereal last build 1.2
my question is:
I was using your stock at&t gb with root and cwm.
specifically your option 3 in the threar you posted over in development,
a few days ago ive been using the ethereal rom v1.2
ive been experiencing some differences vrs the stock gb uclb3.
is it possible that battery life is shortened with your rom?
could this be because of the kernel change? (stock has entropy's dd, ethereal infuzion core a)
lets assume kernel could be the cause, is it possible to flash entropys kernel into the ethereal rom? would it affect its performance?
lidroid toggles work partially in some cases, like flashlight wont turn on sometimes.
can the rom have issues regarding the response of the screen, in some cases it seems to fail to respond. have to push my finger a lil bit more to the screen.
im very new to this area of flashing roms and stuff. just wanted to say ethereal is very cool, you did a very nice job with this! thanks!

Glad you're enjoying Ethereal. I'll tell you a little "secret". Ethereal is Option C from the Odin UCLB3 packages I put together. A few images and graphical values have been changed to make it look more custom, the launcher has been changed to AOSP, and lidroid toggles have been added. If lidroid toggles get a little wonky, as they have from time to time in most custom roms, a reboot should clear things up. As for battery use, I've had about the same for both stock and Ethereal. Most have reported good battery stats on the rom, but your mileage may vary based on how you use the phone and what apps you use. You may notice a slight difference when using Entropy512's daily driver kernel, as it was designed to provide good battery life. You can flash it with this rom if you would like to test. If you aren't comfortable flashing kernels, you may want to give Zen Arcade's Infuse Toolkit a try. It gives the option to try different kernels.

can I flash the kernel same way as in the post you made about using different kernels?
it's impressive it is option c. in performance they have alot of difference, ethereal has no lag whatsoever.
thats why I was asking if I change to entropy512 dd from infuzion, would that affect ethereals performance?

I personally get good performance with Entropy512's daily driver and Ethereal, and you can use any of the kernel flash methods (easiest being SGS Kernel Flasher from the Play store).

You can see the kernel information in Settings / About Phone. The kernel info is the same for both Zen's Infusion-Z and Entropy's Daily Driver since they are based on the same kernel. For battery life, I can get about a day and a half if I hardly use the phone. With moderate use, I have to plug it in when I go to sleep each night. That's about as good as I get for battery life on stock, on UCLB3 based custom roms, and on CM9. This is with keeping the phone in airplane mode and with wifi on when there is bad cell reception. This phone eats up battery when it searches for cell towers and can't find one. I also keep my screen as dim as possible, unless I'm outdoors, keep GPS off unless needed, and keep auto-rotation off unless needed. If I have a day where I use the phone heavily, and the screen is on for several hours at a time, I get about eight or nine hours, but top it off at work or in the car to make it through the day. This is pretty average for most modern smart phones.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah thats right, everything is working quite alright with the kernel. seriously congrats on this Rom, works pretty damn good, i like how fast it is compared to the stock touchwiz based rom.

Just fixed this, by the way, and will get an update out in the next day or so. There are a few other things I want to work on before putting out another release.

[TWEAK] Lightning Zap! Blaze Basic v1

Hello all!
As promised, here is the first release of Lightning Zap tweaks for the Blaze 4G from Team Fah-Q (formerly known as Team Kick Ass)!
DISCLAIMER:
I am NOT responsible for anything YOU do that causes damage to your device. Follow the instructions to TEE and there won't be any problems.
This version is ONLY for Gingerbread ROMs and a GB kernel that supports init.d scripts. How do you know if your kernel supports init.d scripts? There are a number of ways to check, but the best way is to ask the developer of that kernel. You can also check in the ROMofCHOICE.zip by navigating to /system/etc/init.d. If the original .zip of your ROM has an init.d folder with scripts in it, then you are good to go.
What is Lightning Zap?
Lightning Zap is a set of tweaks that I have written and compiled to make the Blaze 4G Lightning fast, super smooth, and contain excellent battery life!
What's included in Lightning Zap Blaze Basic:
Battery tweaks for awesome battery life
Governor tweaks for amazing speed and performance without sacrificing battery life
Kernel tweaks
Memory and Ram tweaks
Cleaner tweaks
Build.prop tweaks
Internet speed tweaks
and MORE!
Install instructions:
Make a full nandroid backup and then backup your data with titanium or something alike
***Download link is at the bottom of this post***
Download Lightning Zap! Blaze Basic v1.zip to pc (Can be downloaded to sdcard also)
Place Lightning Zap! Blaze Basic v1.zip on sdcard
Flash
Allow phone to set for 10 minutes after reboot
Enjoy

well, take it for what you will, but I am on dknight7 at 9 hours uptime with minimal usage and the battery is at 98%. Keep in mind this is minimal usage which means no calls/text but wifi data sync is on, installed a few essential apps like root explorer angry birds and tt backup and a little bit of youtubing and web browsing.
So with that said, flash at your own risk, but I am pretty sure my tweaks are unmatched...lol (no offense Eril... you are still my superstar...lol)

Do not think this works on STOCK - rooted/w cwm (looking at you update script and the actual files in the zip).
There isnt suporrt for init.d style startup scripts in stock-rooted anywhere that I could find, So your sysctl.conf will work but all of the init.d scripts will be ignored.
I'm assuming dknight7 has this support? If it doesnt then its not doing anything but the sysctl.conf tweaks on that either.
Also some of your sysctl settings have been shown to slow the phone down over several days and increase the number of reboots needed.
One specifically I saw in 03systweak:
echo 50 > /proc/sys/vm/vfs_cache_pressure;
This does speed up things a great deal on the short term. However it gives you a max of 2-3 days before you have to reboot your phone as it slowly begins to lag it down. A setting of 1 is less than a day, a setting of 100(default) gives you weeks without need of reboot. So people need to be notified that these tweaks are not stable, and in order to keep the improvements these tweaks provide, and you will find yourself rebooting more often.
It has also been shown that most of these tweaks do in fact use more battery. There is no magic performance improment without the use of more power on android in many cases. There are some phones where the initial config is not optimal and these tweaks would show a great improvment. The blaze 4g phones on the other hand, are so fast even at stock, and get such great battery life, I dont see why such a thing would even be applicable for them.

Stock Rom - Rooted Kernel
Thomas, I'm on the stock rom (latest update) with the rooted Kernel. Will that combo work or should I look for a different kernel to install? I don't want to switch roms when I expect that ICS should be coming out within a month or two and the phone is generally running reasonably well as is. Thanks in advance.

I had came across a little mod called Seeder that I shared in the General thread and everyone seems to be having great performance increase, and that was on Jelly Bean based ROMs. I personally experienced this on a Jelly Bean based ROM and actually underclocked with a MIN setting of 384 and MAX of 652 with no lag at all. On Jelly Bean!!! So I said to myself, self, how awesome would this be on a Gingerbread ROM? Well, here it is. The.Emilio Unchained.
Whats in it?!?!:

Looks like the EVO is picking up,not losing ground, you guys are killing it,nice work brother.Great to see more keeping the EVO alive.
Looks like i got first on this one guys, hahahaha.
If you guys would like to know about this seeder tweak app, read what the dev wrote about it...
On some (older) versions of Android, the JVM (and other components) read large amounts of random data from the blocking /dev/random device. On newer builds, this problem has been solved, yet depletion of the input entropy pool still seems to slow devices.
So, I cross-compiled rngd, and used it to feed /dev/urandom into /dev/random at 1 second intervals.
Result? Significant lag reduction!
Chrome, maps, and other heavy applications switch instantaneously, and map tiles populate as fast as I can scroll. You know how sometimes when you hit the home button, it takes 5-10 seconds for the home screen to repopulate? Yeah. Blocking on read of /dev/random. Problem solved. But don't take my word for it .. give it a shot!
This version fixes the issue some users were seeing on later Jellybean ROMs, where the UI would misreport the RNG service status.
Note that this APK is actually compatible with all Android versions, and all (armel) devices. It's not at all specific to the Captivate Glide.
Caveats
There is a (theoretical) security risk, in that seeding /dev/random with /dev/urandom decreases the quality of the random data. In practice, the odds of this being cryptographically exploited are far lower than the odds of someone attacking the OS itself (a much simpler challenge).
This may adversely affect battery life, since it wakes every second. It does not hold a wakelock, so it shouldn't have a big impact, but let me know if you think it's causing problems. I can add a blocking read to the code so that it only executes while the screen is on. On the other hand, many of us attribute lag to lacking CPU power. Since this hack eliminates almost all lag, there is less of a need to overclock, potentially reducing battery consumption.
There has been a large amount of speculation on why/if this actually improves performance on ICS+ devices.

LOL yessir! Stick around man. This is gonna be fun. More and more tweaks are being created for newer devices to run better, that in turn, they make our OG run better. Gotta love technology advancements!
Yes sir!!they are definitely blowing up over in the android forum.
Edit:you want to hear the funny thing?your the one that turned me on to the Seeder app and i was thinking i ran across it myself, until i just found your thread in general, lol.Great job on the find, now to see how good it works.
Its amazing. My thread in General is a testament to that. Mind you as of now there are no additional battery tweaks other than the Mason kernel and user ability to uc. I wanted to get this out as stock first so we can get a good impression on how well this runs without addition build.prop and init.d tweaks. I will be adding battery tweaks for better sleep states, kernel optimization tweaks such as COD and more in the future.
Everyone please leave feedback on how this is running. As I am typing this I am in awe of how responsive it is.

It is. It's a widget that I included called one clock widget. Long hold on the home screen, add widget, its the one named ocw. There are many skins you can choose from. The one I am using is chrome rings I believe. But there is a vast amount of other nice skins as well.

[Q] stable ROM with good battery life?

So my wife has an LG G2X on stock android 2.3.4 and she complains that after a while it will move so slowly that it is almost unusable. I have told her to restart the phone whenever that happens and she is having to do that about once a week, but that clears up the problem for a while. Aside from that, everything works as it should. It is using the march 2012 baseband.
Since it is not my phone, I do not know exactly what all she is doing on her phone, but I assume it is mostly facebook, watching videos, texting, and calls. I'm looking for a stable ROM where everything works like stock and has at least the same (if not better) battery life as stock.
And yes, I have searched but a lot of the info seems outdated. I am thinking that I might just run a rooted stock ROM with a custom kernel (leaning towards faux's here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102720 )... or maybe the stable cm-7.2.0-p999
summary: wife's G2X becomes VERY laggy after ~1 week use, suggest a fix
thanks :good:
Having to restart once a week is not problem, if anything that's a good thing lol. I had to restart my stock unrooted g2x multiple times a week.......if you move to a custom rom your wife will probably have to restart about the same if not more. I'm on cm7 and i restart about once a day just because i like to, not out of necessity. If your wife isn't huge into customization than a stock rooted rom will work just fine. Faux makes a great kernel but it was a little harsher on battery for my liking. I'm running Trinity oc right now and love it. If i were you, i would look at mazouts latest kernel build. He makes AWESOME kernels and ill be moving over to his latest release whenever it comes out tonight or tomorrow.

i had her on a cm7 build with her previous phone (motorola defy) and she seemed to like it OK. didn't customize it too much, just used all the default settings.
after i posted this thread, i actually started to look at, and downloaded mazout's kernel... so now i'm thinking of trying out the 3/1 "nightly" build of cm7 with mazout's 0323 kernel. i can't seem to find a known bugs list for cm7 on this phone. are there any known bugs?
does this build of cm7 have a "restart" option in the power menu? that is one of my pet peeves with the stock ROM. the only way i have found to restart the phone is to "power off" and then "power on". i think she would be more willing to restart the phone if it was an automated restart
Yes there is aa "reboot" option that comes up from holding the power button. Maz's 0323oc kernel is awesome. I wouldn't put the Max over 1015 and keep the minimum at 216. Known bugs.....for me the only bug i had was the phone would heat up pretty bad overnight while charging. It was instantly fixed by going into my development settings under applications and selecting the "keep awake" option while charging.

ive actually been having surprisingly good luck running hellfire rom compared to when i was running CM7, its been stable for almost a week now, battery life isnt as good, but much better then stock.
Whaaaat? Hellfire is tweaked out isn't it? Looks like a badass looking rom, just too comfortable with vanilla cm7

If you want to stay with stock just root it and install an app to give yourself access to either full reboot or a quick warm reboot from the home screen.
Rebooting is a necessary evil

now there's an idea. i didn't think about that. do you know of any of those types of apps that you could suggest?
I have the app Reboot Scheduler. It reboots my phone at 5 am so in the morning it's nice and fast.

threw "fast reboot" on there to see how she likes it since it doesn't require root, works more like an app killer, but kills all in one press.
now, would i see any noticeable gains by using a custom kernel (stock voltage, no overclock)?

Yes, not an extreme amount but a definite yes. I know by experience with CM7 that mazout's stock voltage beta kernel was much better than the stock CM7 kernel. Those kernels are only for CM7 though. I do not have any experience with an upgraded kernel on my g2x while it was stock as I flashed CM7 and mazouts kernel right after.

^ those stats are kind of irrelevant considering he's asking for a decent play out on battery while using performance. [All around use.] You just showed us what a phone with no data signals and almost no use other then the odd screen wake [possibly texts/calls] the op explained he needed a ROM that takes minimal battery with most use, and being a girl I would imagine she's using social networking which requires WiFi or 3G/4G Please don't take what I'm saying as offensive, your information is very handy however it steers the op in the wrong direction as I'm sure his wife likes to use her phone as much as possible without being stuck to a charger. My girlfriend is currently using my old g2x and so far we've had the best luck with cm7 stable and the trinity kernel with slight under volt. What I would suggest the op do is maybe take a little research nightly on her battery drain, find out what she's using the most and go from there. Unfortunately because its not HIS phone, he's not going to witness distinction first hand and won't be able come to a easy conclusion, and it doesn't help that the g2x devs are stuck on GB, too many ports to keep interest and the search could take forever.
LETS KEEP PRAYING TMOBILE HASNT FORGOT US!
PS spawne32, when you did have your phone like the picture did that include battery apps or task killers? Or just straight up OS? Whenever I tried the ROM you suggested [it has been a while, maybe since updated.] I get screen wake issues and all kinds of battery drain.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
To the op, also recommend to your wife the app called "screen filter" it has an option to lower the key brightness, there are a few of those apps out there but I only remember using that, one of the g2x sad but true battery drainers.

Similar issue - frequent reboots - please suggest ROMs, kernels, other solutions!
I have an LG Optimus G2X (P-999) running the original, unrooted, stock OS (android 2.3.4 "gingerbread", with the "old" bootloader and the baseband from March 2012).
Similar to the OP's wife's phone, mine is running slower and slower, frequently locks up, sometimes so badly that I need to remove the battery to restart it, and sometimes it just restarts itself. I've already tried uninstalling unused apps, clearing caches, moving apps to the SD card, etc. None of that seemed to noticeably help, and lately I need to restart it at least once every 24 hours.
(There are other annoyances too, like the way the GPS hangs and drops, and the battery life isn't great - although the battery may just be too old.)
I'm planning to root it and uninstall the bloatware as a first step, using the instructions I found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050534
Then, I'm considering installing a custom ROM and/or kernel. (Most up-to-date list, I believe, is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975934 )
Given the problems I'm having, do you think one or both will help? (If yes, do you have any specific recommendations for a ROM and/or kernel, or tips, or possible pitfalls I should avoid?) Are there other ideas I should consider?
Thanks in advance!
