[Q] Can i backup nandroid on to harddisk?? - HTC Desire S

hi,
im new here and i just rooted my htc desire s using revolutionary(THANKS TO EVERYONE ). i also tried a few roms like cyanogenmod, oxygen and some sense related roms.
now, the problem is i gt around 4-5 rom's nandroid backup made(each varying from around 500mb to 1gb) on my sd-card using clockworkmod and i kinda ran out of space on my sd-card. So, is it possible to backup the nandroid backups on to my computer's harddisk so that i can make more space for other stuffs on my sd-card??
sorry if this is a stupid question. as i said im new to this and i really dont want to screw up my phone....

I'd say either buy a larger sd card or simply plug the phone into a PC and simply move the files onto it
You should find files relating to each backup within its on directory on the sd card in sub directory clockworkmod backup

Important to mention that you should never rename the folder you copy over. Even a folder name change will mean if you try to copy it back then restore, it'll fail the md5 checksum and installation will abort.

Have you tried Endymion ROM yet? Its the best Sense 3.5 port for the Desire S out there currently, IMO.
Try it out for yourself and see...

[Q] Sensation InsertCoin 2.2.2

No matter how many times I try to copy (using copy and paste or even adb push) either insertcoin 2.2.2 or 2.2.1 onto my Sensation I can never get the md5 to match what is stated online.
I've tried redownloading it multiple times with no success and it's really wrecking my head. I've tried all 4 mirrors on the baadnwz website.
Odd thing is, I actually cannot copy the zip of 2.2.2 to my sd using copy and paste. It just says write speed is 0MB/s... Adb push works but keep getting different md5s.
I'm on 2.2.1 at the moment but want to reflash that or upgrade to 2.2.2.
Any tips? Please??
Thanks
sounds like a bad sd card to me, try another
Hope not! It's a 16GB class 10... Will try another one though. Thanks

TIP/Trick 2 android 1 phone

Hello,
i thought it just had to share the following:
YOU CAN GET 2 ANDROID AT 1 PHONE
just do the following:
1. make an backup of you rom your running
2. take the backup and put it on your pc/other sd( i use sd so i can switch everywere)
3. reboot wich the same rom still and backup all stuff you have with the by you prefferd program i use titanium backup.
4. make sure all apps are compatible with the extra rom you want and with the rom your currently running.
5. if all done flash the new rom
6. make sure the old firmware is updated for the new rom if you need to switch between roms make sure you have both firmware
7. boot when all checked and finish into the new rom
8. get the backup program back i install a file manager install the apk of the backup program again
8. restore all backuped programs
9. go to recovery back it up
here it gets harder
10. if the other backup on sd plug it in and if you want restore the old rom or dont do this and keep the new fresh flashed on
or
10. if on pc get it onto your sd if enough space and restore if you want
this hole proces takes 20 min if both backuped and not having to many apps or like me 40 min because i have many apps and therefore need another sd for the backups and firmwares
just restore the rom u wanna run and there you go u have 2 android 1 sd 1 phone and can switch in 10 min by restoring otherone
WATCH OUT FOR FIRMWARE CHANGES IF YOU WANT TO RUN GB ASWELL AS ICS U NEED TO SWITCH THE FIRMWARE TO!
(firmware:

I hope i helped and didnt make a new tread while there was one like this.

Two androids for 1 device would be better using Boot Manager. This method is just not reasonable... Maybe for those with all the time in the world, sure. But throwing away 20 minutes to an hour a day just to change a rom is absurd if you ask me, especially since you're just changing back and forth on android. Get me on WP7 or something and that'll be interesting! Sorry for attacking you but this is just common sense and like I said, the idea is quite absurd (reminds me of an einstein quote, however this one doesn't apply)
And to go from ICS to GB, playing with the firmware(radios and stuff) all the time... could potentially brick your phone. Have fun!

[Q] Official HBOOT v2 "lib" partition mount location?

Hi guys,
It's good to be back on xda. Looks like we've got lots of updates regarding ICS ports..
Anyways, I just want to ask where do I mount the "lib" partition on my updater-script? I'm using the official hboot v2.
Long story short-I accidentally deleted ALL of my files(music, vids, images, phone files) recently on my PC. I tested out a ROM, forgot to do NAND backup thinking I just want to reflash my phone as new, so when trying to get back, i also forgot that I don't have any files anymore. (Note to self and anyone: NO mingling on the PC when drunk. )
So then I need to cook out a new for my own personal pleasure. So thats why I'm asking where to mount the "lib" partition. I'm just going to cook out from an official rom.
Thanks guys..
Edit:
Where do I mount the "lib" partition?

I already forgot who the fellow member is also using the "lib" partition when the sense 3 update came out.. really can't remember..
And I think I'm the only one who still has an official rom?
Looks like everyone's up for the ICS update.. And me too..
Here you can find the lib.img, packed as PG88IMG.zip as well as the mount location (partition in question).
But IMHO use a custom ROM it is better than Stock in any way. For example proxuser's Saga3D is pure Stock but without the crap and optimized. Anyway it is up to you. Happy lib flashing

I have informed madmaxx82 about this issue couple of days ago. Now the new version of the 4EXT Recovery supports the separate lib partition of the Stock ROMs so it is restored also if backuped. For more info - there was a discussion about it in the 4EXT Recovery Touch thread...
@amidabuddha
Thanks, been watching the thread, what I am more asking is; does the lib in the thread you linked work, for those who have old backups not made with the latest recovery. I.e. nandroid restore then lib flash.

It should work on a Stock backup. Also depending on the version you can always extract the lib.img from the corresponding 2.10.xxx RUU /rom.zip inside/ put it in a PG88IMG.ZIP.zip and flash in hboot

I can't confirm it, but if your talking about a backup of a stock rom, it should work flawless, at customs it's a bit harder to tell when you don't know if there also have something been modded (but in common it shouldn't really differ).

[Q] sd card not mounted

No big deal here. I have proted another sense ROM and have been enjoying it but the sd card wont mount in it. The sd card is fine. I made a nandroid of the ROM inquestion, full wiped and restored Supreme Sense to see what happened and all is well so it's in the Ported ROM somewhere. I have been reading what solutions other devices have for simular probs but was wondering if anyone from this community has a "speedy" solution. Or just a direction to look in.

A command I use (without reading the link prboy gave so it might be the same) is
adb logcat >logcat.txt
Or >whatever.txt and that should place a txt file inside platform-tools with the name you specify , that way you don't miss anything,or have to look at it all through terminal

Great. Now none of my sd cards will mount in recovery after doing a full wipe to flash some thing new. looks like I'm screwed.

So it mounts before the wipe (as in it wipes your sd-ext during the wipe) but won't let you install from sd after the wipe? Maybe try going into advanced then reboot recovery after wiping, it might mount your sd when you reboot recovery... But that's just strange.

Yeah it was easier for me too. For me mounting anything is a lot easier and faster in linux than in windows, I've had problems where an external drive will just not show up at all in windows, or show up with errors, but then booting into linux everything works smoothly

Well, here is the story. All of the 'Galaxy S' (aka, Galaxy S 1) devices, except a few (sgs4g, sk4g, I think there is another), come with an internal eMMC (embedded multimediacard). This is usually where they put the data partition, for instance on the i9000, vibrant, captivate, etc.
For galaxys4g, we've been getting around this issue for a while with apps2sd. I really don't install that many apps anyways, so I never really run into this problem, but for those who have, that's what they've used. Most roms provide apps2sd (or similar functionality). I think with titanium backup, you can move apps to the sdcard.

Also, I think that the fascinate is the other without eMMC

No, they have a 2G eMMC. Same 512M internal storage as the other galaxy s phones.
Actually, here is a nice comparison (fascinate vs. galaxy s 4g vs. vibrant).

One more question if I may...
I flashed Valhallah Final on my phone.. I have A Voodoo sound app on my phone as well.. but when I clicked on it, it said that I didn't have the right kernel for it. Is it just a matter of flashing the right kernel to get the features of Voodoo sound on my phone? Or will that screw up the functionality of the rom that I already flashed?

I'd suggest flashing with cwm. Flashing the kernel won't change the rom. Except for blastoff which will change the wifi.conf.
With titanium, you can integrate those Rom updates into the Rom. That can free up a bunch too.

It deletes the old file that the update replaces. You won't have the uninstall updates in settings anymore. I (assume) that when a system Rom gets an update, the old apk gets scrunched and lingers. This option frees up that space.

Updates to system apps get put into data/app integrating updates overwrites the original app in system/app so it frees up internal memory and takes up system memory. Also integrating dalvik into rom frees up like 50-60mb of internal memory.
