Ok guys I really need your help for this one, I'm a big fan of sense, just because of the camera and when it snows it shows the little snowflakes on the screen :3 along with the useful features it provides. The thing that kills me a little on the inside is the equalizer built in all the sense ROM's. They all suck, therefore I am in love with MIUI right now because of their built in equalizer and all the eye candy it provides. The background to this was that I bought a pair of over the ear headphones from best buy for like 20 dollars and they looked awesome but were silent, I used an equalizer to enhance the sound and suddenly fell in love with the very pair of headphones that I am currently using (highly recommend you buying it if you toy with equalizers). I've tried everything in the market and nothing has satisfied my audiophilific ears. I.E.: PowerAmp, other Android equalizers, etc. Mainly with the way they work. I was wondering if you could participate in what equalizers you use (if you do).
I liked the DSP Equalizer that came with CM7. I'm surprised you didn't like the equalizer that comes with PowerAMP. That one is pretty robust with a lot of presets. Have you tried moving the preamp knob? It's the leftmost one.
Other than that, I would recommend you check out the headphones thread somewhere in the accessories section, to see what you should get next after you feel like you need to "step up" in your headphones game.
I don't like PowerAmp just because it annoys me, when you plug in your headphones it plays music by itself and other stuff that I forget. As for headphones, I bought a pair of SR80i's and I love them but I never bring it to the gym or anywhere else because I don't want to break them. As for DSP. I love it too and is the reason why I like CM7/AOSP.

Stuff like that can be turned off from the Settings menu, you know.
I can't say that I'm a big fan of sense (which is why I went with cm7), but how much of a difference will the equalizer make?
You could potentially amplify the sound of your headphones by x2.35% which in my case is equal to more slightly expensive headphones.

I had this on my HD2 and loved it. Is there any way to get it on the Sensation? Is there something similar or better? And as opposed to what some may say it is not just an EQ. It does some signal processing that really make a difference to me. I listen on in-ear headphones (Shure SE535 and Jerry Harvey custom molded JH13's)
its in the htc music player.

SRS is already installed on the sensation.... Well at least the Tmobile branded one is that i know of. when you are listening to music in the stock music app it is in the top right hand corner. if you are watching a movie it is at @ the far left hand corner i also noticed it your movie is encoded with 5.1 surround it gives you that option with headphones plugged in.
SRS Question...
Is there a 'custom' panel of settings for this, used to use one on my WinMo and the customisation was great. I notice on WP7, it is just basic settings like reggae, rock, etc. This is not always acceptable as you should really tune it to your headphones, not so much different types of music (well, for me anyway...)
What's the go with the Sensation..?
As everyone knows, the audio quality of I9003 is not up to the mark, and this has been discussed various times.
Its real bad when compared to that of I9000 or of any iphone (personally tried).
If anyone knows about any custom rom, with improved sound or any other rom, or any method to improve the sound quality, please discuss.
As crazy as it sounds I'm actually quite satisfied with the audio quality of our phone (despite my constant whining a few months ago). Although I do agree that the audio quality of most idevices is better.
Anyway I'm currently using cranium rom and miui player on XXKPH. I honestly cant tell if this has any impact on audio quality but recently I've been a happy camper
Others will suggest the use of the equalizer app from the market. Its honestly the best EQ available and you wont be using those EQs that come with the music player anymore. It's free too
I suggest the Playerpro app as well since I've found it to have a louder volume overall and the UI is pretty neat.
And although this might sound redundant but I'm curious as to what headset your'e using. It always helps to have a reliable pair of quality head/earphones
I have the headphones that comes with the i9003, they are quite good. With DSP Manager it has a good quality sound, but Im having a problem with it, the phones speakers keep doing a static sound and drink the battery.
Ill try the equalizer app...

Oh man I suggest you get the Koss Portapros. These are the best sounding and most comfortable headphones I've ever used (and I've used alot). Their sound quality is comparable to headsets which are 3x times more expensive. Plus it comes with a no questions asked LIFETIME warranty- just pay for shipping.
I've been using these for a year and it hasn't failed me. Here in the Philippines it gets pretty hot so comfort is a big issue for me when it comes to headsets. With these on I forget I'm even wearing them
Here is the link for more info: http://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro...P4ZH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320488226&sr=8-1
For on ear headphones Ive the senheizer hd202. They are just great. But for listening to music while walking on street I use the in-ear samsung headphones.
The HD202's sound great on well driven devices but unfortunately thanks to its high resistance it just doesnt sound good on most portable devices.
If you want slightly inexpensive mic+ earphones combo like the stock earphones that came with the phone go for skullcandy riot!
They are better than the stock earphones and are not going to break the bank!
Also I want to know on sennheiser hd202 3.5 mm hack do you have 2 concentric black/gray rings or 3 rings?

There are 2 concentric rings.
Have you tried using those portable headphone amps from fiio? The E5 or the E6? I have the old E5 and it does improve the sound from my I9003. The earphones I have used that to my feeling had an improvement were the Denon reference C751 and the Sennheiser IE8 with silver cable. I have also used it on an AKG K420 and Sennheiser PX100 and I did feel some improvement on sound.
Guys what would you prefer
Equalizer app or the Music fx app.

I don't mind "Rock" but if somebody has a better custom EQ, I'd love to try it out.
Or a recommendation for a better media player with a good EQ.
Honestly... this is a question that is going to be debatable. What sounds great to one person could sound like **** to another. Choose a setting that sounds good to you.
Actually this is a question completely dependent on what you have plugged into it.
If you can find your headphones at the HeadRoom website, you might be able to find the frequency response curve of your headphones to find out which frequencies are lacking or are boosted too much. Then you compensate with the EQ.

What phones are you using. If cheap 'buds' than that is 1/2 your problem. Also the EQ circuit sucks on these phones, but overall the Sound Quality (SQ) is pretty good.
First if you are not using Voodoo sound, start using it. Just trust me on that. Currently on the Charge you have to use Voodoo control plus (The paid version) to use Voodoo sound. Voodoo sound uses the Hifi digital circuit in your phone instead of the analog circuit. With this installed the tone control I use is the Bass boost circuit which I adjust for the phones I'm using and I don't use EQ at all. Unlike the stock EQ circuit on this phone the bass boost circuit in voodoo sound does not suck the life out of the sound.
If you are using cheap ear buds finds some different phones. I have yet to find 'buds' that I like the sound of but I have not tried many of them either.
You do not need to spend a lot. Try the Koss KSC75 for $19. These sound really good and sound even better under a beanie. They do not have a lot of bass (more on that later) and the beanie pushing them closer to your ears gives them more bass and that is my favorite combination. For in in-ear phones I like the Skull Candy Titan. These are $39 and have a lot of bass, but not flabby bass. I also have a set of Sennheiser PMX70 which have the least amount of bass. All of these have a nice 'live' (as in not 'dead' sounding) sound. The only 'EQ' I use on these is to control the amount of Bass each gets which I do using Voodoo Sound bass boost. None of these are more than $40.
For really cheap phones but better than the stock crap 'buds' many people like the JVC Marshmallow (in-ear) and JVC Gummy (buds). Also the Skull Candy Inkd ($10) are good in you like more bass/rock sound. Some people HATE skull Candy phones in general but I'm not one of them.
A good source for anything related to headphones for portable players is anythingbutipod.com here is there headphone section: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=22
I have tried the EQ on this phone from multiple players and by using the DSP Manager that comes with CM7. None of them sound good to me.
EQ is a funny thing and not something you learrn to use well overnight (I was a live sound engineer in another lifetime, and have 21 band EQ on my home stereo).
If all you have is presets in your EQ all you can do is try them till you find the one you like the most (hate the least). If you have a custom setting here are some guidelines.
In general it's better to cut frequencies, instead of boosting the ones you want. Want more bass, cut some of the high frequencies. Try to keep your cuts and boosts to less 3db (6db max). More than that and you are trying for something that is not there. To get a good idea of what each band does, run it all they way up and down to see what it really is boosting and cutting.
Also as you EQ you are making the signal stronger and weaker depending on how much you cut or boost. This in itself changes the sound. In general as you turn up the volume (signal) you hear more bass and treble, and conversely as you turn down you hear less bass and treble. So play with that before dik'ing with EQ
Try to do your EQ'ing so that the loudness stays about the same, or at least use the pre-amp gain to adjust for it. The EQ in the Mixzing media player shows when you are clipping which is a cool feature. It also lets you change how many bands you have control over and if you want to use smoothing which adjusts nearby bands as you move one band.
I wrote all this because it's close to pointless to ask for other peoples' setting since it depends on the phones, the music, and the volume you like to listen to, and your own preference in how it 'should' sound.
Edit: Mixzing Basic Player has the best EQ in the players I've tried.
If you ask for a good player , I recommend Poweramp or Apollo
I mean, It's just a phone speaker, how much variation in sound quality can there be? Even if I were to use my nice headphones, does the software make an actual difference on such a lo-fi device compared to Boomsound or Dolby (from the 5.0 update)?
It's for fun . Options are fun
When it comes to speakers, it's not too much, since only ClearFi is an option. It just crisps things up a bit. Good for classical, which is about the only thing I listen to only with speakers. But when I use my pair of Sennheiser CX300 in-ear headphones, I use LiveStage for AE-S headphones with ClearFi off, everything sounds amazing. Great bass and clear highs. But I haven't tried it with any other headphones. But it's not going to hurt.
I haven't used H/K in a while, but yes, it makes a difference. Boomsound tunes up the bass to make the phone seem louder. H/K aims for more clarity. I like European symphonic rock/metal (e.g. Nightwish, Within Temptation), and I find with H/K all those sounds come through clearer. For more simple-sounding stuff, like punk and classic rock, Boomsound comes out ahead.
Here's an idea. Get MultiROM, and dual boot Digitalhigh's GPE, and a Sense ROM of your choice. I like Adrenaline, but use whatever. Put H/K on it. It only takes a minute, tops, to boot into the other ROM, once you've got them both set up. So play some tunes with one, then boot into the other, and play the same tunes. It depends on the music you like and what you want to get out of it. For example, EDM is getting to be a big thing. While I'm not a fan, I have listened to deadmau5 and Skrillex (they were free on the Play Store), and while I don't "get" it, I do wonder if Boomsound would be preferred, to make it thump harder, or H/K so you can hear all the subtleties (more deadma5 than Skrillex). Country is another one that might be able to go either way. Also, the change isn't huge. But I can notice it.
I use my phone a LOT for playing music in my Tahoe - I have an interface that connects to the radio and I use the headphone jack. H/K with Viper4Android is what I've found gives me the best clarity and least distortion, not to mention the power the equalizer has. I'm using H/K with ClariFi, V4A with Viper Bass and Clarity, and damn it sounds amazing. I tried it with just Boomsound and V4A, but it still didn't have the crispness.
I love the hk mod and I can very easily tell the difference its even better than dolby on sense 7 as I removed the dolby and got the hk mod back on with the fluent 7.0 sense rom.
I'm a metal listener (pick a genre) I'm on a sense Rom with BoomSound and v4a... And there is a huge difference just with adding v4a... Haven't really tried any of the others. But with this setup I can pick out things I didn't hear before software makes a difference... Can't have hardware without software
Hey All,
Just want some thoughts on best sound / music player setup on the note edge (915G),
I have tried various music players, (Jet music / Shuttle+ / Music player pro and stock music player, which are all good)
I am looking for high end natural sound quality and my question is...do I root and install VIPERFX or choose a good music player or is a good set of headphones a better choice?
I am thinking about buying some AKG 550 headphones which should give a good balance then is it best to play with the music players for better sound quality or do I root and install Viper??
I know its my choice in the end but some thoughts from the community always helps?
I haven't rooted in over a year, but probably Viper if you're going in that direction unless much has changed since then. If you don't feel like rooting, then your best bet is probably PowerAmp. It also takes advantage of the Edge feature, which is nice.
As far as headphones go, if I'm going to spend that much for a pair, then I'm going to be willing to spend whatever the price is to ensure my happiness. For the sake of transparency, you should know that I haven't had a chance to try out AKGs. Having said that, I have a pair of QC25s by Bose and they are pretty freaking amazing. I honestly don't think I can ever go back to passive noise-canceling headphones again.
One of the problems that I have is that I have a very minor case of tinnitus (i.e. permanent ear-ringing). I also like to do my work in public places but find myself getting distracted pretty easily, usually catching trivial conversations that I find somewhat amusing. When I use the QC25s, it's as if I put myself into the zone and nothing can bother me. The upshot of it all is that I don't even have to turn the music up that loud in order to enjoy it, which spares my ears and prevents the tinnitus from worsening.
But what about the sound quality? I personally find that I hear much more of the music with active noise-canceling enabled. I was listening to some Dire Straits, for example, and there were just subtle notes that enhanced the listening experience that I don't recall picking up on before. Let's face it though. You're not going to get incredible, deep bass out of the QC25s, but you will get a very wide, clear sound, allowing you to appreciate depth to songs that you may also not have noticed before.
I don't know if you planned on paying full price for the AKGs or if you're somewhat like me and naturally resistant to "brands," but I would strongly recommend giving the QC25s a good listen before making your decision. I've let several people borrow my pair for 10 minutes and a couple of them actually ended up purchasing their own the following day. If you have the money to burn, you can also customize your own pair with an absurd amount of color selections on their website. In addition to helping me appreciate my music more, they've also increased my productivity in a way that other headphones haven't done, and they will be the standard against which I compare my future purchases. I'm coming over from a pair of passive noise-canceling Sony XBA-2s and it's not even close. While the Sonys are nice, the QC25s have just been game changers for me.
I should add that you just need to take into consideration your listening habits. If you're going to be in quiet places already most of the time, then I would purchase Sennheisers, Grados, or AKGs, but if you're more out and about or on-the-go like me, I just don't see how I could do anything other than the QC25. And obviously, other headphones would be better suited for more fitness-related activities, like Westones, Sonys, or Shures.
