My phone was working perfectly on Koush's ICS Alpha 8. I decided to flash a different radio, KF1, and after flashing it I got 0 service. It won't grab any service. I've wiped multiple times, and formatted everything possible from the Recovery menus. I flashed over like 5 other Radios, and still wont work. I don't really understand this.
anyone know what to do?
Have you flashed a different rom? If so, you should probably try a stock ROM. Does the radio show the correct version in the rom?

Try restoring back to stock.

I guess I'll restore to entire stock. Though I did re-flash a CM build, and still had the problem.
It shows the radio version in about phone as the correct one too. It's just an odd situation, but I'll restore to stock and see if it fixes anything.
Just FYI, anyone that ahs this problem, odds are your efs was corrupt or formatted.
I flashed a new Radio, and I suppose it somehow wiped over my efs partition.
Anywho, I used this app: http://www.nexussforum.net/nexus-s-apps/(app)-efs-backup-and-restore/msg9658/
And restored a backup I had. Hope you have a backup!

I've tried more than twice now, and I'm sure it's something simple, but I can't recover my backup. Last night for example, wanted to try another rom, a 2.3.4, I was quite happy with my mosaic setup, as usual, and I was running xcal's 2.0 kernel without issue so I backed up through cwm 3. Flash got me into a bootloop so I tried to recover the nandroid but it wasn't the right one. I chose the right date but the b/u was the rom that failed, the bootup screen. So I had to start from scratch to get the setup I liked. Of course when I tried to flash the new rom there were different kernels etc. But that shouldn't matter should it. What am I doing wrong? Thanks ahead of time.

Do you're trying to restore a 2.3.3 backup (Mosaic) to a 2.3.4 rom?
*phone sig* If you're not on Gingerbread you should be flogged! *
Uh, no. you misunderstood.

Those back ups are not to use to recover with. Those are to restore your set up and stuff, you flash the rom it was backed up from THEN restore and its like you never flashed the the other rom.

Thanks studacris, yeah, tried that and got an error message and couldn't restore. Sorry I didn't take the message down, I'll try again if it happens again, thanks.

I have had a Nexus S 4G for about 2 months now, and earlier today, the 4G functionality just suddenly stopped working. It was working fine, and the connection dropped, so I went into the settings to reconnect, and now it just stays on "Initializing".
I was running the 8/31 nightly build of CM7 at the time.
I have tried the following, to no avail:
Reboot
Flash a different CM7 build
Update Profile/PRL
Wipe cache/dalvik cache
Nandroid backup, full wipe, flash stock ROM
At first I thought it might be a problem with Sprint, but my sister said 4G works just fine on her Evo, so I'm thinking it's a problem with my phone.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do to fix this, or should I just return it to Sprint and exchange it? I've had it for less than 90 days so it should still be under warranty.
Is your sister at the same location?

Yes she is.
Based on what you have said, there isn't anything that should have caused 4g to stop working. I would take it to Sprint and see what they say. Unrooted of course

Update on the situation...
In preparation for returning it to Sprint, I "unrooted" it following instructions I found on AndroidCenteral (basically downloading the GRJ22 build images and flashing those via fastboot). Strangely enough, that fixed the issue.
I've now rooted it again and am back on CM7 with no problems. Just to ensure the problem wasn't a file in the backup, I'm reinstalling everything rather than restoring a backup.
Still have no clue what the problem was, but it's working now.

Ok, EVERY ics or above rom wipes my imei and renders the phone useless. I'm not a noob by any means, I follow the directions to the letter, and the imei number is toast EVERY time! I even backed it up, restored it... but it still shows just a bunch of stars. What in the world am I doing wrong?
The trouble started when I flashed the a mtd jb rom. I restored from the backup, got data back, but phone had no sound during calls. I had to go back to stock via a one click to restore the imei number. I was running jb right up until the mtd change. Now, I can't run ANYTHING, CM7 or above. No matter how or what I flash, it wipes the imei
I've been working on this for a week now, can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm lost and back to gingerbread until I figure something out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just wondering. Did you back it up with the EFS in the Infuse Toolkit? According to the OP, EFS Partition Backup (protect your phone's IMEI information, find unlock info) forum.xd

No, I used what ever the app is posted on the jb pages. Quick and simple. Makes a folder called eds backup. Inside u find a .tar file with the whole folder zipped up. I didn't find a place in the toolkit for restoring just that info. I can't even do.cm7 now, anything above gingerbread wipes the imei number, every single time.
If there were a one click to ice or jb, might would help. Beats me. I'm.completely stumped now. Never had trouble flashing anything.

Which JB were you trying to use? You might as well one click back to GB, try the toolkit in CWM, back up the EFS, and then flash one of the ICS ROMS. After flashing ICS ROM and before you reboot, use the toolkit to restore EFS and test it to see if it works. Not sure why it is happening with ICS but you never know what will work sometimes. That's half the fun of testing and most of the frustration of testing.
I know ALL about frustrating! You know, with all I've done, restoring it BEFORE I reboot on the install hasn't even entered my mind! Ill give it a shot. As for which one.... all of them of course!
Ill look closer at the toolkit, maybe it will work. Ill let you know!

Just curious, but what version of cwm are you flashing from? It was suggested somewhere that it may depend upon if your flashing from cwm5/6 or 3/2, and I believe it may be true.

OK, I've backed up the efs folder via the toolkit, BUT, nowhere.in there is there an option to restore it. I looked and looked! Whole rom,, different scripts, nothing about restoring the info u just backed up.
Now I went from red cwm to cm9, blue, early version. Everything was working fine until I switched from Scott's 8/31 build to cypher.(is that right?) Cyphers worked fine, but I've never been able to flash any other rom since, unless its a gingerbread rom. They all fail. The failures started with paranoid 2.0 9/6 build. I had no trouble until then. I've run every rom out there at one time or another, never had a moments trouble. Now on the other hand, I'm stuck!
BTW, I've even tried roms prior to mtd, still wipes the imei number. That is cm7, cm9 early versions.

I actually did the search on here... most of which pertains to the nexus and its imei being incorrect due to a GPS file. The windows file, efspro I've found is missing files, or doesn't work in.windows 7. I've not made it to trying Odin yet, but I'm gonna try tonight. The part that is confusingbme is, why can't I flash files BEFORE mtd? Something has changed...
I've been flashing things since the very day the captivate came out, I've not had trouble till now. Maybe someone can make a heimdall one.click to jb with the new filing system...? I'd pay $20 for for one!
I was wondering if i flash my phone again will i have to renter all the data again to stay on boost. I put the fg31 rom on then flashed the stock fl24 modem back. Now I'm having problems with my phone just cutting off randomly. Could out be the modem causing this. I have already tried several new batteries. Help please.

Did you make a nandroid backup for your original ROM first?
You can't "reflash a phone." You can flash between ROMs, if that's what you mean.
If you mean your phone keeps rebooting, then you probably didn't wipe EVERYTHING (excluding your SD card).
Okay, I had upgraded to 10.1 Aries and it was working fine and I tried changing some things with UOT kitchen and I got a "no service" problem. I have tried reinstalling from stock a couple of times but it doesn't make any difference. tried flashing a different modem and that didn't work either. The phone boots up and wi-fi works, but not the phone or data. Tried flashing an efs restore file and that didn't work either. Bill's paid for tmobile. I tried restoring from a nandroid backup and there is no change. IMEI is all zeros IMEI SV is 02 mobile network state is disconnected.
what to do?
Flash back to stock then reflash cm10.1
I use this one click to restore my IMEI/service issues
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500427
Then flash an ICS ROM
Flash CM10.1

er... I flashed back to stock about three times and it didn't make any difference. I used Odin to flash KC1, then KJ6, then a kernel with CWM.
Have you upgraded from a GB ROM to an Team Acid ICS ROM? Their upgrade script automatically backs up you efs files.
Try extracting the tar file from the backup and taking the contents and stick it in the efs folder. That worked for me once :/ there is also a script Team Acid posted per my request somewhere in the Stupid Questions Thread.

Flash back to stock then flash aries release 3. Next time u get the no connection turn off wifi and just wait longer. Sometimes it just takes a bit after boot. Reflashing the modem (make sure you are flashing fb padded modem). That should do it. I started reflashing a modem after aries every time then realized i just had to wait an extra 20 seconds after booting up. Release 3 pretty good with this

I have the same issue. Had been running Aries beanstalk since it came out, switched to dao's pacman and after a couple days it seems the radio chip quit or something. Tried different modems, restoring nandroid, flashed back to stock, went and got a new Sim card. Nada. So... Yeah I had to pay 5 bucks for a new phone lol

After doing more testing.. Kb5 and kc1 dont flash... You need to flash kd1 and up and make sure they are padded.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
And if u do install aries then flash kc1 by mistake it will say baseband unknown imei unknown.. But you dont have to do one click.. Just flash padded kd1 ki1 lb6 anything besides kb5 and kc1. I think it has to do with byte size of modem file.

I don't remember exactly where but there should be a folder on your SD card with all the efs backups created when you upgraded to mtd.
The filename should be efs-backup.tar and it could also have numbers in the backup name

I tried restoring from some other efs backup but I'll look around and see if there is any more backups. I have the sd card saved on my hard disk as well. There should be several backups. Somehow, though, I don't think its the imei or 10.1 is storing the IMEI in a different place or folder. This is too bad because the Aries version of 10.1 is really nice.
I pretty much have the same problem. After upgrading to 10.1 I can't get any reception even though I tried flashing stock and padded modems on 10.1.
i found several efs backups in the backup folder, but expanding them and replacing the efs folder on my phone makes no difference at all, IMEI is still 00000000 ..... unless 10.1 uses an efs folder in a different location that is. This is acting like there is a second backup location for the phone information that,if you don't delete it or overwrite it, restores the bad efs informaiton.
Nvm... deleted.

Does anyone know whether the imei information is located in a different location with MTD roms? I have been using the efs folder.
back on my old Galaxy Apollo for the time being -- they are still developing for this phone. Must be a lot of them out there.
I have the same problem. I was using Aries 10.1 just fine. Everything worked great. Then all of a sudden I get no signal. I tried restoring back to stock oneclick w/ factory reset several times. I have an EFS backup which I've restored several times both manually and automatically. No signal, no baseband version, no IMEI. It says unknown on settings for IMEI.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can still get signal with an unknown imei it will just take a not longer the first time to connect. I know it isn't a fix but just a thought.
No luck here. I let it sit for 30+ minutes.
