[Q] How to return to stock for warranty return? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

How do I get a SGS4G back to stock for a warranty return?

Odin a stock recovery without root
Or alternatively, go to the vibrant forums and get a vibrant bootloader, it'll brick your phone so it won't start lololol

Given that KJ6 is an official release from Samsung now, you could use RaverX3X's ODIN ROM to put it to stock. I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that it will remove root, CWM, voodoo, and all of that. Speaking of voodoo, if you're using it, remember to go into recovery and disable it before flashing anything else.

I dont think this would work. Don't they take your phone to check if its hacked for a day or two before giving you another phone?

Is KJ6 the original? Cause i used ravers KC1 for my phone and it is currently not working.

Yeah, it is. RaverX3X created an ODIN version for those having issues flashing with Kies.

I've already Odin's Ravers KJ6 ROM which caused me to become unrooted. Is there any more to do to get back to "stock" for warranty return? I had CWM recovery installed, what do I need to do to remove that?

I believe CWM should already be gone once you flashed Raver's KJ6. Other than doing a factory data reset to get rid of anything on there you don't want them to see, I think you're good to go.

[Q] Kernal to Soft Brick

I've done this twice but tried to flash an updated kernal via odin and the result ends in a brick. I'm running Octane v2 and was flashing the KJ3 version. I can't remember what I was running before, but did the same thing as well. What gives?
Hard to say without more detail. You said you were trying to flash a kernel on top of Octane but, to my knowledge, no one has put a KJ3 kernel out there. You may be flashing a new ROM vs a kernel.
If you are trying to flash a new ROM (KJ3 in this case) to replace Octane, then you need to insure you don't have voodoo enabled when flashing a stock ROM as stock ROMs cannot read the ext4 filesystem.
If you've already flashed a stock KJ3 ROM, download drhonk's KJ1 kernel with root/cwm/voodoo, flash it via ODIN, let the phone boot, reboot into recovery, disable all voodoo, reboot the phone, then you should be in a good place to flash whatever GB ROM you want.
I meant KJ1 kernel. I already had octane flashed but flashing the kernel via Odin, it bricks. I don't want to flash thru cwm for fear of the same

Interesting. When you say it bricks, what exactly happens?

I get no response from the screen, power button, or touch keys. It wont even respond to my JIG. It'll respond to the pc when I have odin open to let me know it's connected, but other than that, almost like a dead rock. When I odin it, It will flash with just the blue status bar.
If you're using Odin, could it be that you're flashing the kernel in the wrong slot?
It could also be a bad download.
I just flashed Octane v2.X two days ago, and I flashed the KI3 kernel through CWM. Everything worked fine for me.

Bootloaders and flashing stock?

Alright so when I want to flash stock using gtg unbrick then master clear.
Then move the rom to the sd card, then flash community kernal
Then wipe x3 then flash rom.
From what I get this is the best way to install froma clean slate but will I be on gb bootloaders?
thanks

I think if you're able to flash the ROM and it runs fine, you don't need anything else.
If you really wanted to make sure you have gb boot loader s, check out Adam outler's post one click uckj4 with boot loader s. Dev section
Wtf... you forgot 3e recovery..
And just flash the community kernel. Gb loaders and red cwm. Done...

I really don't know about the Boot loaders with Infuse coz i never flashed any BL on it the way we did/do on captivate.
From Gtg you can flash any rom from the DEV section.......I am saying this from my own experience, Even i jump ROm to ROM without going back to stock and till today have not faced any problem. Last I flashed ZEUS over MIUI without a problem and is working GREAT.

if you ever flashed gb bootloaders then you still have them, lost1 posted some untested froyo bootloaders but noone really knows if they work or has included then in an Odin package, the kh1 froyo update has sbl.bin but I don't think it had boot.bin. I wouldn't recommend ever flashing it because I don't know if the froyo sbl.bin is compatible and would assume not.
if you want gb bootloaders then flash a gb leak from prezkret then flash stock. if you are OK with heimdall then I have gb bootloaders in a package for it. once you are on gb bootloaders I suggest keeping them on there.

thanks for the info
what do you mean by "once you are on gb bootloaders I suggest keeping them on there"
like what exactly would move me back to froyo bl ? would using gtg unbrick move me back to froyo bootloaders or you mean actually flashing another set of them?

no only the kh1 leak and the dump from lost1 had any bootloaders. you would have to do it intentionally. just wasn't sure if you wanted information on returning everything to stock for warranty reasons.

[Q] Would anyone benefit from a bone-stock Clockwork Backup?

Been browsing around a bit and noticed that some people want to completely revert back to stock, but they don't want to use ODIN, due to the fact it'll trigger the flash counter for warranty exchanges. It's a backup I made literally IMMEDIATELY after I flashed Clockwork recovery, so it's completely unrooted and untouched. Just wanting to ask around to see if it seems like something useful to others before I upload it. Let me know! Could just flash the stock recovery and be at a completely out-of-the-box state.
Or possibly use it to make a stock flashable .zip?
It wont get rid of root and cwm and super user.

Actually I would certainly have a usefor this. I made some boneheaded decision and unistalled.a.couple.bloatware apps before I made my first nandroid.backup
This would be pretty useful when the ics ota comes around.

In order to get back to "out of box" condition for warranty/return purposes you need to reinstall 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 stock ROM, KERNEL, and 3e Recovery. The only time (based on what I've read on SR Forum), the custom binary flash counter gets tripped is when you use Odin to flash a Kernel (boot.img). So I think what you are proposing is to flash stock ROM/KERNEL using CWM, then use Odin to flash the stock 3e Recovery partition. Odin should not trip the flash counter if you only Odin flash "recovery.img" and not the "boot.img" (kernel). Correct?

I was running SkyIce before, fully rooted, and after restoring this, I no longer have root priveledges and Superuser.apk isn't anywhere to be found.
And yes, restoring this to get a stock kernel and everything back, then just flash stock 3e with Odin to get the recovery partition back to stock.

Going back to Stock ROM.

If I wanted to go back to my stock rom for warranty purposes, do I just download the original from samsung-update
Put the .zip into my SD card. And use CWM to install it?
Plus, if I put the original ROM back onto my phone, will the "Custom" bootloader appear or will it be normal?
And how would I get rid of CWM? Just delete recovery.img?
The file you'll download is going to be a file that you need to flash with Odin, once flash it puts everything back the way it was. No you won't get the custom when flashing back to stock since you'll be using an official signed rom. You should, however, might want to make sure you don't have a counter going for the number of unsigned rom flashes.

What's a counter?
Do I delete everything by with CWM and then use odin to flash my GS3?
Or do I just use odin over my custom rom?

Prior to using odin to flash the stock image, be sure to use EZ-Recovery for VZW Galaxy S3 to flash the stock recovery.

Is that necessary? I odin'ed using the stock image and my custom recovery is gone, so was the unlocked keypad.

I had a kexec recovery installed and flashed back to stock a couple nights ago and completely lost recovery. Luckily it booted into the rom and I was planning to re-root anyway using the simple root to make sure I didn't have any Sprint stuff like the initial root method.

Anything special before i send phone back to verizon

I have a galaxy s3 that started to have some major issues and verizon is sending me a replacement. I had the JB bootloader on there and CM10. I already used ODIN to flash back to the stock kernel and stock software. Do I need to do anything else to ensure I dont get charged like $600
wipe data/ factory reset from stock recovery or *2767*3855# from dialer.
id say to a complete odin restore to stock and see if u can get out of the loop
doesn't hurt to try
It wouldn't hurt to do everything twice, just to be on the safe side. That's what I did

Probably not. I doubt they would check that thoroughly. Make sure to "re-lock" you're bootloader, if you were unlocked. Good luck!
