Droid Charge speaker stopped working randomly - Verizon Droid Charge

Has this happened to anyone else? When I turn the volume all the way up I hear a faint sound coming from the speaker and it's very tinny. It started happening about 3 weeks ago out of the blue. I don't think it's the kernel or rom I have running, I've flashed 3 new roms since then and I'm running Humble 5.0
The phone is running the best it's ever have, but still no luck with the speaker!
Thanks for the help.

[Q] Problem with speaker:(

I've been experiencing an issue with my speaker lately. It makes this hissing noise for like 3 seconds and a clicking noise right after , like it turns the hissing noise off. It happens when any sound is played and the sound stops, the hissing noise comes up and it clicks. For example, if I played a song then paused it randomly, it would bring up the hissing then click. It also happens with the headphones in too, like you can the the click in the headphones. It happens on apps too. It's been going on for about 2 weeks I'm guessing and I'd really appreciate it if anyone knows how to solve it.
Thank
I'm running on LeeDrOiD 3.2.1. I flashed it a while back so i doubt its the rom. It just happened randomly.

First you'll have to determine if it's a hardware or software problem. Make a nandroid backup of your ROM, then do a full wipe and flash a fresh ROM. If LeeDrOiD didn't give you this problem when you first installed it, then just wipe and flash a fresh LeeDrOid and see if the problem goes away. If the problem is gone, then at least you know it's just a software problem somewhere in your previous install, instead of a hardware problem. The hard part will be trying to figure out what went wrong in your previous installation of LeeDrOid.
I've been running LeeDrOiD for awhile now and its the first time its ever doing this. I'm pretty sure its not a software problem....I may be wrong. Someone told me there could a hole in my speaker because these speakers shouldnt be making the hissing noises.
In your experimentation, try flashing other roms also, to make sure it isn't a bug in the rom. If it only does it for a few seconds, then sound is clear, it isn't a hardware issue. When speakers blow, the problem persists through ALL sound.

Well, we can play the guessing game all day long, or you can take the 15 minutes to see if it's a software problem. Your choice.
Edit: sorry if that came off as being rude, that wasn't my intent.
I'll take the 15 minutes... but the clicking noise comes after ANYTHING that involves sound. Apps, games, music, everything. Once the sound , any sound, stops , it would continue hissing ,as if it were hissing the whole time, then it stops , which ends making the click noise.
So i flashed a fresh leedroid rom and its still making the hissing noise then the click. I have no idea what the problem is and its really annoying. Please help. Thanks
Does the volume of the noise correspond to media volume?

Did you try what I suggested and test different roms? Leedroid is based on desire HD framework, try one based on the Inspire, then report back. If you're only using the same Rom over and over again, you won't be able to tell if it is a phone issue or a Rom issue.

It appears you have a hardware problem. What would you like the Forum to do for you?
Don't be so soon to be sure. I believe the Leedroid roms have an included audio boost, which might have something to do with the issue. Others don't, so I strongly urge the OP to try a Rom that was actually built from inspire framework before a 100% conclusion can be drawn. One would think that a speaker issue would be constant and wouldn't go away after a few seconds if it was mechanical... whenever I blew a speaker, the sound was constantly crackling, it wouldn't go away after a few seconds...

Suggestions on what to do...

Hi,
I've had my shift for about a year now, and it has treated me wonderfully so far. The fact that the phone has so much more power under the hood than many realize is amazing, but there seems to be an issue I've been having for about 2 weeks now is bringing me here looking for advice.
My Shifts regular phone headset seems to have died. Whenever I place a call, or try to listen to (e.g. vm) anything via the headset I can't hear anything. When I play anything through the speaker though (music, calls ON speaker) it works fine. At first I thought it was the ROM I was using so I did a complete wipe and flashed a fresh one (even tried a stock rooted) but nothing would work. I do have the insurance for it, but my dilemma is that I think having a stable root and being completely set in that manner is more important to me than having a working headset on a non-rooted 2.3 phone.
Any suggestions on what I should do to possibly fix the phone? And ideas as to whether or not I would be able to root a replacement phone as I've rooted this one and not have any issues (temp root only, etc etc)? I'm stuck because not many understand why I wouldn't want to get a new phone except me.. lol.
Thank you in advance
Well I know 2 Saturdays ago my ear piece quit working so did my girls and my dudes all at the same time

HOX speaker volume gets very low until reboot

I've not seen anyone here mention this, but it's being discussed on other Android forums. Thought I'd post here on XDA in hopes that some of the more technical members of this forum might have some input or ideas.
I noticed one day recently that the Google Navigation voice was so low I couldn't hear the directions over the sound of my car's A/C, which I know had not been the case before. All volumes were at max. This continued for the rest of the day, and all ringtones and notification sounds were very low. IT was so dramatic, I just assumed the speaker went bad, and I was going to have to make an insurance claim over a defective phone.
I happened to reboot the phone that evening and instantly the speaker volume was 3-4x as loud as earlier that day. I thought it was a one-time thing, but now realize that this happens 3-4 times a week. I'll notice I can't hear any of the notification sounds very well, reboot the phone, and all is well.
Except, this is a pain in the @ss to have to reboot constantly!
Has anyone experienced this? I thought I would recognize a pattern, like some app I use regularly or something, but nothing seems to make sense... seems very arbitrary, but aggravating nonetheless.
As I said, this is being talked about on a lot of the other HOX forums, but I haven't seen it mentioned specifically here. I almost want to say it started after the AT&T update last month, because I never noticed it before that. I'm on stock AT&T HOX, not rooted, and only a handful of the 'regular' popular apps. I don't even have music on the phone, nor have I ever used earbuds with it.
Very frustrating!
I have had the exact same thing happen, no clue why though.
I started a thread awhile back. Mine does the sane as well.. pissed..hope its software issue

Same here, I'm leaning towards it being a software issue due to a reboot always fixing it.
What ROM are you on?Custom or Stock?Any mods done to the phone?I had the same issue with the phone volume being to low on a custom rom, until I went into recovery to wipe cache/dalvick and everything was good/loud again.

I can vouch for this solution. I had the same issues on my HOX when I installed a custom ROM.
In the "Special Notes" section of the CleanROM v4.1 notes, it states:
Volume may be quite. If so wipe cache's and reflash the ROM. Volume should be loud again.

Hopefully it's as simple of a fix as this!!
I'm completely stock, no custom ROMs, not rooted.
I have the same problem, stock and rooted. I recently started noticing it. It didn't always happen to me.
I do use Tasker to put my media volume all the way down once i exit my car. Then I use Elixr 2 to put all my volumes to high once I use my "home" profile. I think it might be cause of that. Since I've stopped using exlir to raise the volume, I haven't noticed the issue. But I have restarted my phone every 2 days recently for another issue so it is possible that I am fixing it each time before the symptoms start to occur

Has anyone found a permanent solution to this? It's my only gripe. I have tried two sense roms. I love HTC camera so I don't want asop. Volume plus doesn't help when volume drops off.

Still no fixes yet? I was using the phone with Navigon Satnav app and it is impossible to hear any voice directions.

Do you hear a difference between when it's low and then restarting your phone and trying it again?

Mine never fixed after rebooting. I'm on my third One X now from bad speakers.

I can't detect any difference and if there is it is too small to detect. I tried to amplify the sound with Volume+ and there is no detectable difference. But if I use the speaker for a call, at maximum volume, it is really really loud so the speaker is definitely capable of more. But with Satnav GPS apps, at default settings, between the One X and my old Galaxy S2, there is a night and day difference
I too had these issues on replacement phone I got from att but it resolved automatically after few days
From beast called HTC One X
this problem causes due to an App, in my case previous version of Viber App caused all this issues....
hope you solve this prob

Speaker problem

Hello guys,
Just recently, my speaker option stopped working and I am not sure how it happened. I've been on barebones for a couple months now and I was curious if it was just the rom, so I flashed cm9 and slimics, but still no luck. Any suggestions how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

When you say speaker option, do you mean putting it on speaker during a phone call? Do you hear sound out of your external speaker when you play music or do anything else besides phone calls?
I would suggest going back completely to stock using the GB one-click: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498. Or, maybe even giving the gremlin remover a try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500427&highlight=gremlin
If you don't get sound going on a completely stock ROM, you probably have a hardware issue. Has the phone been dropped or has anything been spilled on it?
Yes, your right, the speaker option won't work during a phone call. When it is at max volume its just a scratchy sound from the person when they talk. I think your suggestion may be the best way to go as far as trying to get my speaker to work again. Thanks.

[Q] Headphones making weird sounds..Hardware issue?

I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue or a software issue.
When listening with my headphones to music, youtube...etc.. it randomly makes weird buzzing sounds (kinda like when you connect to the internet through dialup back in the old days). This sound happens randomly for example, if I hear it in a song and i rewind it to the same position it will not happen..but it might happen somewhere else in the song.
I know this is a Kernel issue because on Stock Kernel this doesn't happen. However when I flash to any other Kernel this starts to happen. (I've tried Bricked, Franco, Faux, Linaro Kernel and they all have this sound problem. I haven't seen anyone else report on this issue which is why I'm suspecting it is a hardware issue. Anyone have any idea or input on what I can do? I really don't want to stay on stock Kernel since I've seen huge improvements on battery life using custom kernels. Thanks.

Hi Bobokun,
If its the same noise that I get (I posted on google product forum for nexus about it. Tried to put link here, but as I only just joined to answer this, it won't let me. The title of my post was "Nexus 5 has interference sounds when using headphones"), it happens on stock phone for me.
I've not got any further in bottoming out whether it is hardware or software (though not done too much digging other than the above link).
Cheers
James
This happened to me once or twice when I first tried out my headphones. However the last few times that I've used the headphones it has stopped.

It happens several times during my work day, but I'm in a poor TMobile signal area in the UK and i think it is trying to keep its signal.
I haven't found any solution yet, anybody? I'm just wondering how only a few people found this issue.
It becomes complete annoyance.

What about baseband? Could any of the kernels you flashed have changed the radio?

I have a similar experience when using bluetooth and playing The Infinite Black (game) when I touch a sector it makes a weird buzzing sound. Rooted, stock, with Franco Kernel.
