I've been experiencing an issue with my speaker lately. It makes this hissing noise for like 3 seconds and a clicking noise right after , like it turns the hissing noise off. It happens when any sound is played and the sound stops, the hissing noise comes up and it clicks. For example, if I played a song then paused it randomly, it would bring up the hissing then click. It also happens with the headphones in too, like you can the the click in the headphones. It happens on apps too. It's been going on for about 2 weeks I'm guessing and I'd really appreciate it if anyone knows how to solve it.
Thank
I'm running on LeeDrOiD 3.2.1. I flashed it a while back so i doubt its the rom. It just happened randomly.

First you'll have to determine if it's a hardware or software problem. Make a nandroid backup of your ROM, then do a full wipe and flash a fresh ROM. If LeeDrOiD didn't give you this problem when you first installed it, then just wipe and flash a fresh LeeDrOid and see if the problem goes away. If the problem is gone, then at least you know it's just a software problem somewhere in your previous install, instead of a hardware problem. The hard part will be trying to figure out what went wrong in your previous installation of LeeDrOid.
I've been running LeeDrOiD for awhile now and its the first time its ever doing this. I'm pretty sure its not a software problem....I may be wrong. Someone told me there could a hole in my speaker because these speakers shouldnt be making the hissing noises.
In your experimentation, try flashing other roms also, to make sure it isn't a bug in the rom. If it only does it for a few seconds, then sound is clear, it isn't a hardware issue. When speakers blow, the problem persists through ALL sound.

Well, we can play the guessing game all day long, or you can take the 15 minutes to see if it's a software problem. Your choice.
Edit: sorry if that came off as being rude, that wasn't my intent.
I'll take the 15 minutes... but the clicking noise comes after ANYTHING that involves sound. Apps, games, music, everything. Once the sound , any sound, stops , it would continue hissing ,as if it were hissing the whole time, then it stops , which ends making the click noise.
So i flashed a fresh leedroid rom and its still making the hissing noise then the click. I have no idea what the problem is and its really annoying. Please help. Thanks
Does the volume of the noise correspond to media volume?

Did you try what I suggested and test different roms? Leedroid is based on desire HD framework, try one based on the Inspire, then report back. If you're only using the same Rom over and over again, you won't be able to tell if it is a phone issue or a Rom issue.

It appears you have a hardware problem. What would you like the Forum to do for you?
Don't be so soon to be sure. I believe the Leedroid roms have an included audio boost, which might have something to do with the issue. Others don't, so I strongly urge the OP to try a Rom that was actually built from inspire framework before a 100% conclusion can be drawn. One would think that a speaker issue would be constant and wouldn't go away after a few seconds if it was mechanical... whenever I blew a speaker, the sound was constantly crackling, it wouldn't go away after a few seconds...

I purchased the HTC Inspire 4G exactly five days ago today primarily because it is hearing aid compatible. I think the phone has fantastic features and I really like it. However, the volumes are the worst I have ever heard on a cell phone. I am hearing deficient and I cannot hear this HTC when it rings. The volumes are turned to their max and still they are very low (both ring and notification). I have downloaded various ringtones and still the volumes are inadequate. I recently discovered that people that call me cannot hear me unless I use a headset for some reason. One would think that a cell phone which is hearing aid compatible would have volumes loud enough for the hearing impaired. I still have seven days to return this phone and I think it has to go unless I can find a solution to both problems. I have seen several places where people have flashed various ROMs to increase the volumes, but I am not interested in such a solution since it will violate the agreement with AT&T. With so many intelligent people/developers on this site, can someone help?
Hey man, I highly recommend rooting and installing a custom ROM. Every one I've tried on this device has louder volume and it's a recognized issue with this phone in it's stock form. ATT always botches the software on HTC phones and the folks here do a good job of cleaning up their mess. AT&T will not know (I've done this with 5 HTC devices now) anything about your rooting shenanigans unless you send it in for warranty replacement and it still turns on. If the screen is broken or the display otherwise does not work then there is no way they can tell using the methods they check with. They just try to turn it on and if the bootup is different than stock that's when they get mad. if you need to return your phone after rooting and flashign for warranty repair, then there are threads here to unroot (just use the stock rom updater; it flashes stock rom and radio and kills root but not s-off, but getting s-on isn't hard either). Go ahead and root/flash per the instructions in the dev section. I recommend twopumpchump's optimized stock ROM for starters. I haven't had an issue with it so far. If and when you need to warranty exchange your device, just PM me and I'll find the proper threads for you.
The volume on the inspire is really low compared to other handsets. At this point, some custom roms do increase the volume but not by very much.
The calling problem is probably a defect with the phone.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the responses. Well, although I did not want to root, it seems like my only option. I thought about returning the phone to AT&T and paying the $35 restocking fee and going to Verizon to buy the Thunderbolt, but after further taught, it doesn’t seem cost effective just for a front facing camera and a kickstand where the low volume might still be an issue. So, I will return the defective phone to AT&T since people can’t hear me on the other end and then root the new phone to increase the volume. Since this will be my first attempt at rooting and flashing a custom ROM, can either of you direct me to a link where I can lean the procession? I want to try twopumpchump's optimized stock ROM as recommended by DeathmonkeyGTX, but first I need to learn how to root and flash. Thanks!

CM7 Has an app called DSP manager which allows you to up the speaker volume. I set mine to a volume right before it gets so loud the speaker starts distorting and its perfect. I highly recommend cyanogenmod. Its what I used on my Nexus One, and its what im using on my inspire now!

No. It increases the external speaker volume too.
The only walk around I have found for notification loudness without flashing another rom has been to use a louder sound. Either made myself or found one. With the rom I am using I have to turn the volume down on notifications!

I can confirm. I found the volume to be very low coming from an iPhone 4. I downloaded the "8-Bit" sound pack from HTC Hub and found that most of these were significantly louder than the other options. I set a few for my notifications and can hear the phone now when getting texts and emails.
Non rooted stock Inspire 4G.
Hope this helps others!
I am using the 8bit sounds too.

If you flash CoreDroid 5.1 you will be turning down the volume on your notifications and alarms, at least I did. Even speakerphone is louder. Revolution is another that I found works exceptionall well. I think Coredroid is a little louder and clearer.
My phone seems to be shy. The volume on notifications and rings is so quiet as to not disturb an ants slumber.
I have cranked the sliders that (supposedly control) this setting within the sound menu all the way to the top. At that level the sound is about 1/4 of what it used to be.
Does anyone have any idea what I may have done? I am using infused 1.5.3 with the default kernel and modem. Perhaps the speaker has gone to pot...but I wonder if there is some software solutions I might try.
Thanks for your consideration.
Hmm... Could be that your speaker decided to randomly go out... Never had that happened before, so I don't know what to say. :/

You could try flashing to stock and see if the problem persists. If it does, your speaker may have blown or something. Haven't seen anyone else report an issue like this.

The problem seems to stem from something in the VooDoo controls. If I chug the analog gain thingy all the way up...it works as expected.
IDK why. I know VooDoo is only supposed to affect headphone usage. Three trials can't be wrong though. (or maybe they can...either way its persistent)
I've not seen anyone here mention this, but it's being discussed on other Android forums. Thought I'd post here on XDA in hopes that some of the more technical members of this forum might have some input or ideas.
I noticed one day recently that the Google Navigation voice was so low I couldn't hear the directions over the sound of my car's A/C, which I know had not been the case before. All volumes were at max. This continued for the rest of the day, and all ringtones and notification sounds were very low. IT was so dramatic, I just assumed the speaker went bad, and I was going to have to make an insurance claim over a defective phone.
I happened to reboot the phone that evening and instantly the speaker volume was 3-4x as loud as earlier that day. I thought it was a one-time thing, but now realize that this happens 3-4 times a week. I'll notice I can't hear any of the notification sounds very well, reboot the phone, and all is well.
Except, this is a pain in the @ss to have to reboot constantly!
Has anyone experienced this? I thought I would recognize a pattern, like some app I use regularly or something, but nothing seems to make sense... seems very arbitrary, but aggravating nonetheless.
As I said, this is being talked about on a lot of the other HOX forums, but I haven't seen it mentioned specifically here. I almost want to say it started after the AT&T update last month, because I never noticed it before that. I'm on stock AT&T HOX, not rooted, and only a handful of the 'regular' popular apps. I don't even have music on the phone, nor have I ever used earbuds with it.
Very frustrating!
I have had the exact same thing happen, no clue why though.
I started a thread awhile back. Mine does the sane as well.. pissed..hope its software issue
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Same here, I'm leaning towards it being a software issue due to a reboot always fixing it.
What ROM are you on?Custom or Stock?Any mods done to the phone?I had the same issue with the phone volume being to low on a custom rom, until I went into recovery to wipe cache/dalvick and everything was good/loud again.

I can vouch for this solution. I had the same issues on my HOX when I installed a custom ROM.
In the "Special Notes" section of the CleanROM v4.1 notes, it states:
Volume may be quite. If so wipe cache's and reflash the ROM. Volume should be loud again.

Hopefully it's as simple of a fix as this!!
I'm completely stock, no custom ROMs, not rooted.
I have the same problem, stock and rooted. I recently started noticing it. It didn't always happen to me.
I do use Tasker to put my media volume all the way down once i exit my car. Then I use Elixr 2 to put all my volumes to high once I use my "home" profile. I think it might be cause of that. Since I've stopped using exlir to raise the volume, I haven't noticed the issue. But I have restarted my phone every 2 days recently for another issue so it is possible that I am fixing it each time before the symptoms start to occur

I can't detect any difference and if there is it is too small to detect. I tried to amplify the sound with Volume+ and there is no detectable difference. But if I use the speaker for a call, at maximum volume, it is really really loud so the speaker is definitely capable of more. But with Satnav GPS apps, at default settings, between the One X and my old Galaxy S2, there is a night and day difference

Hi all! I've been facing a very strange problem on my sensation XE since August.
The microphone doesn't work; let me explain better:
1-when recording with any app, I hear much noise (Google Now can't detect speech for example). I can hear my voice in the recording, but it's covered by noise.
2- Mic in call doesn't work at all. Well, I can hear my voice coming out from MY (!) speaker. The phone just sends noise to the other end.
The mic has worked correctly only for three days in October, then nothing more. If I plug Beats headphones with microphone, everything works ok using the external mic.
Things I tried: all sorts of wipe, different kinds of rom (Sense based, aosp, GB, ICS, JB), reinstalling firmware, stock RUU, ecc). I am currently on bruce2728's CM10.
Anyone got an idea? I couldn't find anyone having the same symptoms.
Thanks in advance
If everything is working fine with an external mic, then I am pretty sure it's a hardware failure.. Your phone's internal mic is damaged and need to be replaced.

At first i thought so, but what makes me wonder is that, during calls, the mic works! Just it sends output to my speaker and not to the other end,but without noise. So I believe it's some kind of strange software problem

i have the same same problem with rockyjacky..however, my problem is far way worst because people can't hear me when they called me..the only time they can hear me is when i am the one who is calling them..i have tested to make calls to see whether they are joking or something but the thing is, the problem is real..it is like my mic is been muted.
i think it is not a hardware problem since they can hear me when i called them..so, can anybody explain why such thing to happen?they cannot hear me when they are the one who are calling me.
I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue or a software issue.
When listening with my headphones to music, youtube...etc.. it randomly makes weird buzzing sounds (kinda like when you connect to the internet through dialup back in the old days). This sound happens randomly for example, if I hear it in a song and i rewind it to the same position it will not happen..but it might happen somewhere else in the song.
I know this is a Kernel issue because on Stock Kernel this doesn't happen. However when I flash to any other Kernel this starts to happen. (I've tried Bricked, Franco, Faux, Linaro Kernel and they all have this sound problem. I haven't seen anyone else report on this issue which is why I'm suspecting it is a hardware issue. Anyone have any idea or input on what I can do? I really don't want to stay on stock Kernel since I've seen huge improvements on battery life using custom kernels. Thanks.

Hi Bobokun,
If its the same noise that I get (I posted on google product forum for nexus about it. Tried to put link here, but as I only just joined to answer this, it won't let me. The title of my post was "Nexus 5 has interference sounds when using headphones"), it happens on stock phone for me.
I've not got any further in bottoming out whether it is hardware or software (though not done too much digging other than the above link).
