EP4P is super solid, I'm shocked that GB hasn't been pushed out officially - Verizon Droid Charge

This version is amazing and super stable. I can't imagine why it hasn't been pushed out officially...

EE4 wasn't a great modem either. Darn VIA radio.
But the GB builds have an issue with noises in phone calls that is still there in EP4P, if VZW is also seeing that in testing that could hold it up. And if they plan an ICS release for the phone Samsung might not try too hard to fix it - they obviously haven't been able to do so yet.

+1 The noise happens to me on any 2.3 rom, hopefully it's one of the issues they're trying to resolve before releasing gingerbread, though I hate to be part if the reason it's being held up

i think that something is wrong with my phone. It does not like any custom roms. It freezes and acts up often. Once i put the stock froyo or gbread it flies and works perfectly fine..... And gbread 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 were solid with no issues so far.

I think its the modem. I had my first static incall today after running the 2.3.6 leak for a week.
Never had that issue on froyo roms.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App

There are some problems with this build as well. It seems to mostly be with the radio, echoing what people have said here. I've had a couple times where I could no longer send/receive SMS and had to reboot (where it immediately started working again).
There's some other weird things going on with the I/O. I use PowerAmp for music and I'm getting strange skips and pauses that I never had before. Could just be my configuration, but I'm still running pretty lean.
The latest rumor is that the OTA is happening on the 29th. That and $3.49 will get you a McRib.

GB is alright. They need to fix the freeze issue that has been on quite a few GB leaks. It doesn't happen that much on EP4P but it's still there. The modems on EP3 were great in the sense that the signal was SO much better, it obtained/held 4g with such ease. Then I upgraded to the EP4 modems and i lose my 4g signal like i did on EE4 but my 3g is actually usable now. Before the 3g speeds were so TERRIBLY slow i could never dream of browsing the web on it. These speeds are reasonable and i think these modems are the best so far. They need to combine EP3 and EP4 modems to make a solid, stable 4g connection but a very fast 3g connection when it does drop down. Ontop of all that they still need to fix the ****ty voice issue on all GB versions. EE4 was great with this but the GB modems make the voice quality sound like crap.
So, all in all, even though GB is clearly no where near ready to be launched i still just want them to push it anyway because that means GB source code which means CM7 which means CM9(if we get a dev on it)

I feel as the OP feels. As far as a bad radio, I guess I'm just lucky. I haven't had issues with data loss, crackling noise, Bluetooth problems, or anything else. This phone has been darn near perfect since I got it. The only real complaint I have (which really isn't a complaint) is battery consumption. I wish it was a tad better but I manage just fine. Oh, I do wish there was more memory too. I haven't been able to play a couple games because of low memory. Battery and memory are my only real issues at this point. Still, I'm overall very happy with the Charge and would have no problem staying with it if I didn't have an upgrade available.

The modem is better than before. I'm not saying the modem is good or ready yet, but it is working better than any of the last 2 or 3 that I've tried / used.
I sure hope they don't screw up the O/S portion or give up completely because they radio is crap.

Where did you hear that bro?

This release is solid
I was sick of waiting so I flashed this ROM to my phone and I have had the same results as the op. The phone is so responsive and snappy. It is like a new phone. I used to experience numerous data drops before and now, maybe a few in the last ten days. I have not had any of the static/call issues others have had. GPS is still slow to lock. Download GPS fix from the market and run it before you use the GPS...it helps IMO.
My battery life has improved since porting this release. I am a moderate user (phone calls, text, facebook, twitter, occasional GPS) and I get an entire day from my phone (7:00 am - 11:30 pm). I am sure streaming movies and gaming would cut it down significantly but the casual user will notice a big improvement in battery life.
Again, this is just my personal experience.

I agree that the latest version is awesome.
I guess I am really lucky as I have never had the slightest problem with data, phone call quality or anything else. My phone setup the way it is runs faster & smoother than my bosses Bionic.
The ONLY thing I would change if I could would be the poor battery life, but that's a fact of life with these huge screens etc.

Trying to decide which ROM to go with, hoping it fixes my issues

Ok, I was an early adopter of this phone bought it the day it came out July 18th. There are a great many things that disappoint me about this phone, main thing being lack of Froyo at the moment. I'm tired of waiting for samsung, I have little faith it will truely resolve my issues which are the following
In order to use wifi I must reboot my phone, this only occurred after the official JH7 was loaded on it through the over the air update that ATT did.
Constantly having lag all the time, and having apps running that I never ever use and dont want such as ATT Navigator, ATT Family Map, etc. I was able to root the phone and get rid of those but it really hasnt helped.
My stereo bluetooth headphones must be paired EVERY single time I want to use them, its not the headphones because they work perfectly with 4 other devices.
Of course the GPS, it sucks for everyone, any of these or all fix that? Samsung seems unwilling.
So maybe I'm wishing too much but I've watched almost every youtube review of the ROMs that are out there and theres a few details that stick out for things that I want in a rom so I'll detail them here and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction as to which one has the best combo.
1. froyo based, I need 2.2 for certain apps
2. I've heard theres different modems that can affect HSPA, I want fastest download and upload.
3. No wild color schemes, I dont like orange or green. I quite like the look of the phone I think samsung did a great job with the touchwiz and I know theres alot of you out there that perfer the "vanilla" versions of Android. I'm not one of those people. I really loved the look of the cognition rom and some of the things it had visually.
4. Overclocking would be nice but not at the expense of battery life, I'm right in the 24-30 hour range just as most are on here, better would be great if possible.
Go to romkitchen.org and build your own there. There are many threads about the advantages of one modem over another, and you can pick pretty much everything yourself. Then search for CLShortfuse's GPS fix and you'll be set.
Don't worry, its extremely easy

30 hours, you have to consider what you are asking. I want faster dl, no lag, better gps, but I don't want to eat any more battery. It is possible to get 30hrs of light to moderate use. Heavy use will yield 12-18
Andromeda v1.2 is a rom that is pretty vanilla....simple and has the things your looking for. You have to try roms that you think will be what you want.

+2 for Andromeda 1.2.
You can fix all of these if you root the phone. The best ROM out there is the Rom Kitchen (aka "Doc's ROMs") over at romkitchen.org. You can "cook up" your own ROMs using the specifications you want. This is what is so great about the ROM kitchen, especially when compared to the other ROMs like Cognition: you can pick what you want, and don't have to take whatever it was that someone else decided was best. For example, if you want the benefits of rooting but want to keep touchwiz, the ROM kitchen has an option for that. It also lets you pick things like the theme, boot animation, apps, etc. There are 5 captivate modems, and you might just have to experiment to see which one is best. I did this, and it was well worth it. The one that worked best for me was the XXJPP modem. Just load a seperate ROM with each of the different modems, flash each, and download a few things to see which is faster. Also check and see how well the GPS works on each.
Rooting will fix the lag, although one of the ROM kitchen kernels (Glitterball's Voodoo) will improve it even further. There is something called "Project Voodoo" which is a community of developers who build a kernel tweak called Voodoo which completely fixes the remaining lag issue (this is caused by the inefficient way the captivate organizes its folders), and also improves a few other features such as resolution.
You should go try out my ROM its small and fast and stable. I'm getting great battery life and DL/UL speeds. Give it a shot.
Here.
Well I decided to go with the serendipity 5.9, I love the speed, my upload and download speeds almost doubled, bluetooth and wifi finally work like they are supposed to!!

The benefits of going back to Stock...

So I was and always have been an admitted flashaholic.. for the eye candy, the customization, the things you can't do on stock (non-root) such as tethering and such. I tried GB early on, too buggy, was happy with Froyo. More recently I flashed Synergy and am pretty happy but really beginning to question whether or not going back to stock is just the best way to go. The Netflix and Skype are cool but honestly don't use 'em all that often. Assuming I could still tether on stock and rooted, I just may do that.
I can't be alone here. I imagine many of you have gone back for battery life, less bugginess, etc. What are your thoughts, am I alone in this? If I'm not, why did you revert and what benefits do you see by doing so?
Not trying to sound like a smart ass...don't take it that way.
But I'd love to hear of someone going back to stock for better battery life.
That's one of the top reasons to root and ROM your phone. Fat and services not needed go bye bye...
Couldn't you still swap kernel tho on a stock rom? That was just an example and even if you were being a smartass it wouldn't bother me any. Here to learn man, here to learn. I have not experimented with my TB like I did my old WinMo phones, still a bit intimidated honestly.
Don't be intimidated. They're simple.
Keep a good backup plan.
You can't change ROMs or Kernals that I know of without root access.

Sounds like he is staying rooted just using rooted stock build, so he can still tether
I use the stock rooted froyo rom quit a bit still. Aosp is still work in progress although has come a long way and there hasnt really been a Verizon GB leak for the TB that is even close to a release build quality, Chingys is closest currently but only offered modded so far.

Try DroidTh3ory's AOSP build.
Damn near flawless.
He mentioned stock build non-root...so I thought that's where he was going...
My front camera does not work and the back camera stops working after a few uses. I then need to restart.
My question is, are there any GB Sense/AOSP roms that work well with the front and/or back camera?
Had no issue with Synergy, BAMF or DroidTh3ory ROMs when it comes to camera(s).
Yeah, would definitely stay rooted for tether but otherwise, the stock software is like 100% flawless, no glitches or hang ups whatsoever. If I'm not having wierd radio issues with most the GB roms, my MMS isn't the same, or overall the phone just feels more sluggish.
My battery life was just horrible with the stock. Once CM7 was stable enough to run as my daily driver I went to it. No issues at all and it runs just as smooth as the stock.
Back to Stock
My first TB was rooted and flashed with a variety of Froyo roms. I was constantly tweaking it and fiddling with it. But I dropped and busted it.
My replacement unit (from Geek Squad) arrived but I didn't have the spare time to root and flash. Then MR2 came.
Now, other than a modest improvement to my battery life, rooting and flashing really holds no benefit to me. I use EasyTether for tethering; it works just fine for me. Everything else . . . Just works.
Maybe after GB I might root . . . But only if I can gain some new functionality.

Sadly what works for some doesn't for others and some only notice it due to how they use their phone. Like on AOSP roms I have issues with missing calls and low in-call volume and network location. I haven't had as many issues on GB releases other than some messed up time stamps on SMS and small annoyances like that. I can get a full day on current froyo build and everything works.
I say run what works best for you that is why we are all rooted, so we have a choice just as we would on our computers or whatever.

Running rooted MR2 debloated. Everything just works. My gut feeling tells me we're in the "salad days" of the Thunderbolt right now. The MR2 release is that good.
Gingerbread will come soon and bring with it a host of problems just like it has when it was released on every other phone. I'm only rooted now so that I can stick with my current setup and ride out the GB release and subsequent fixes until it reaches a similar state of maturity.
MR2 has made the 'bolt a great phone. Yes, battery life could be better but the only fix there is a bigger battery (like the 1900mAh batt in the upcoming Bionic).
even if you go back to stock at least leave it rooted so that way you can always go back to flashing if you wanted. once you get the newest OTA you're locked in to the stock ROM till it get cracked.(if it hasn't already I'm rooted so I didn't pay too much attention to that)
I really cant think of a reason to go back to stock.
Ive been following droidtheory's roms, and he is a genius.
If u can live without sense, his latest aosp build is just amazing. No probelms whatsoever on my end (cam/skype/tether/sms/vids/gps/calls)
And battery life ia exceptional.
Honestly, imo, stock has got absolutely nothing on DT.

CM7 was chewing up the battery in standby. It gets old fast, and having to set up all those accounts all the time is a nuisance.

First full day with Skyrocket

Well after using my new SR for a full day of work is can say it is better than my old Infuse but not by much. The Bluetooth is really crappie works when it wants to. On the way home in traffic stopped dead in tried to connect to XDA app and although I had 4 bars of signal it would not connect. Not even the browser??? After traveling a few miles I was able to open the XDA app and Internet. We don't have 4G LTE in southern CT. yet but this phone seems worse than my Infuse radio wise. I am running 2.3.5 stock rooted. I have been thinking about putting one of the custom roms here on it but they don't seem like they are really ready for prime time judging by the responses. I assume this is because we need better dumps or something. I know we have been waiting for an official dump from ATT for the Infuse which still has not surfaced and mainly why I got a SR.
I really like this phone even though it is stock it seems much more responsive and faster than the Infuse. I sure hope there is more development for this phone and we can get the issues fixed. Don't know why they cannot make a phone that just works right out of the box like my old BlackBerry, I know there is a heck of a lot more options on these phones and that is why I switched to Android but the basic features of the phone should work right out of the box then if I screw it up flashing fine but if it doesn't work to begin with that just blows. One more thing battery life SUCKS just like my Infuse have to carry two battery's with me everyday to get through the day which is really annoying.

are you using it alot? i can easily get through the day with the big battery it has.. i was actually quite impressed with batt life.. and if youve only had it a day you have to cycle the batt a few times and youll get better life out of it... i havent really seen many issues with my so far..
Had my skyrocket for about 12 hours and I had a i9100 before so I've experienced both galaxys, skyrocket in my opinion is the superior device, not trying to start a debate just letting people know for what I use the phone for it suits me best to roll with this over regular s2
I've rooted my SR and "froze" a few bloatware apps. I only have wifi and 4G radio turned on (no bluetooth or GPS) the whole day and by the time I get home it's still giving me at least 75% battery life. Now if I play Fruit Ninja during lunch and check Facebook frequently, it drops a little bit. I do recharge overnight or else I'd be below 50% the next day.
I have tested the GSII and using the GSII SR now, and can say battery life is better in my case with the SR.

Happy with rooted stock Froyo..huh?

Not sure what's happening but I got my replacement Infuse (bad camera on my original Infuse) and have only rooted and frozen a few apps thus far....and it's running unbelievable for the first 24 hours!!
wifi speedtest is very strong and as good as any other rom I've used....battery life is crazy good...and launcher speed (I always use Go Launcher) is fabulous. AND the biggie...the GPS connected within 30 seconds on the first try inside? Huh?
This is NOTHING like my original Infuse.
SO, I need to test a bit more with data speeds...cross my fingers...and maybe I can keep it almost stock Froyo ROM until the final GB comes )).
weird...not what I was expecting, BUT not complaining.
(Firmware 2.2.1, Kermel 2.6.32.9, Baseband I997UCKH1)
I used to own the captivate and would flash all sorts of different crap on it. I got the Infuse when it came out and have been on stock froyo ever since and it's been fine except for the lack of a native SIP stack.
With modems, everyone seems to keep flashing different iterations and keep getting completely different results. I like to think the majority of modem packages are more or less the same and your speed just depends on where you are and how many other people are using the same data band nearby.
GPS itself depends heavily on time servers and not just satellite connections... I find I can always get instant fixes in a particular area if I ping a bunch of different time servers listed at http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Servers/NTPPoolServers and use fasterfix app to force the phone to always use the fastest/most stable time server instead of being distributed/randomly allocated a server from some national list. Not saying this is definitely the way to go, especially if you travel around a lot. Just sayin' it might work for you.

SO, I need to test a bit more with data speeds...cross my fingers...and maybe I can keep it almost stock Froyo ROM until the final GB comes )).
weird...not what I was expecting, BUT not complaining.

have to fully agree

Infuse owners, share your opinions

I searched and found a few older threads related to this, but i figured i would get a fresh crowd.
Chances are tomorrow Ill pick up an infuse, I currently have a captivate and will definately keep it (ICS is running great and i must say i love it)
I need opinions from people running the infuse now, hows the speed? anyone using the cm7 ports that can comment on the usability of it? From what i read the bluetooth is semi working in cm7 but the only thing i need it for is sixaxis controller for my snes emulation
also it seems that i see people overclocking this upwards of 1.6+, any feedback on battery when going that crazy?
in all honesty im too cheap to pay for a gsII or a skyrocket, the only reason im getting a new phone is that with my family plan i get a lot of upgrades and i feel that if i dont use them up im just wasting time
CM7 is always my choice of ROM to use for the infuse, battery life is great, everything works, besides the semi working bluetooth
IMHO If you need GPS routinely I'd pass on the Infuse. It works better on some ROMs but the GPS will more than likely be a diasappointment.
Other than that the Infuse is great...awesome form factor, and has some very nice ROMs that are updated regularly and looks like the DEV support will continue way into 2012.

i come from the captivate, the definition of gps issues. i felt like i needed a gps when i got my phone, now ive learned to live without it. Also i heard the infuse locks a bit better than the captivate, which would be an improvement for me,
I was debating between this and a nexus s. specs wise alone the infuse wins. The nexus is better in the fact that its pure google, but ill quickly flash the cm port and then who cares who "officially" supports my os
I came from a captivate. For me i have a lot of modem issues with the infuse. A lot more than i did with my captivate. I've tried cm7 and miui for the infuse and didn't like either one. My signal was in and out non stop. I tried resetting apn settings, flashing different modems and nothing worked. I just stay with the deodexed stock roms. KL2 is the best so far, for me at least.

Am I misinformed? Or isnt the HDMI only working with Froyo based roms? If your looking at CM7 or any Gingerbread roms out there for the infuse trust it wont have working HDMI, and bluetooth issues. At least that is the general impression I get. Please someone tell me if Im wrong. This is the very reason I get sad when flashing anything new on this phone. Always go back to Froyo in the end. Which really isnt all that bad. When rooted, this phone will do everything any other phone can and more. Its a great device, and you just cant beat the price---free on contract!
AND THE SCREEN IS DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!! UNBEATABLE SCREEN--BESIDES MAYBE NEXUS PRIME AND GALAXY NOTE!!!

And auto brightness

I also came from the cappy, and from my experience, you won't be disappointed. The screen is f*cking beautiful. Just like I'm sure you love your cappy's screen, the infuse is bigger and doesn't have the annoying pentile sh*t. The camera is also an upgrade, not to mention having a flash. Pictures are beautiful with this phone. People are surprised that some of my pictures are taken with my phone because they're damn good.
Also, I've seen a huge improvement in GPS compared to the cappy. Some roms still have problems, but I get locks under 10 seconds on cm7. Another plus is you get slightly faster data if you're in an hspa+ area. As to people saying data drops in and out, I've only experienced this on a couple of roms, however, can usually be fixed with altered apn's; the cm7 thread has the settings in the first post.
Yeah, we don't have as much dev work as the cappy, but there are more than enough great roms to play with. Not to mention the CM7 build which I am currently using, as well as miui. We don't have ICS, yet. People are working on it, so I'm sure it will come eventually. Linuxbozo worked magic for porting gb roms over to our phone with hellraiser, so I'm sure something similar will eventually be worked out with ics.
As to the usability of cm7, I think only the audio side of Bluetooth is wonky, so your controller should be good, don't know for sure though.
Battery life is decent, I'm a pretty heavy user, lots of screen on time with texting and reading xda, fb, twitter, email, etc. and I still get a whole day usually. On my cappy with the same usage I was always recharging part way through the day.
Other than that, there's not much else. You don't need to overclock from my experience, the 1.2 GHz processor makes cm7 fly, I haven't seen any lag whatsoever; other roms are equally as snappy as well.
Hope I helped!

Thanks all for your comments, picked up my infuse tonight, rooted and flashed cm7, took a bit of working to get gtalk 1.3 running so that i can video chat, but its working now
only issue is that cm7 dosent recognize my internal sd like it should, so i have to keep the 2gb in just to take pictures and need to remember that /mnt/emmc/ is my new sd card location, no biggie ill get by

Any native infuse gingerbread roms should have working BT and hdmi. That's all the roms built on leaks; Catyrom, victoryrom, zeus, etc. check the superthread.

Glad its working out. I really like this phone. Lol, I thanked you on accident.
I'm running zeus rom at 1.6Ghz and got more than 4.5 hours display time yesterday, which is amazing. yeah the gtalk seems to need a hacked version. If you figure out how to run video chat over data I would very much appreciate to know which version you used, as I have yet to get that working.

Hey everybody I'm thinking about buying a Samsung Infuse. I have an HD2 that I've had since June 2010 and this phone is starting to die on me. A faulty hardware on this phone is causing me to think about buying an Infuse. Have you guys experienced any freezing or overheating issues while using the Infuse? How is the camera and video quality? Can you take widescreen pictures like the HD2?
see, i dont see a need for HDMI so i dont even think about it.
as for the auto brightness, i didnt know that it didnt work. lol.
still CM7 is really good rom.
There's really no reason to upgrade from the Captivate to the Infuse.

I hated my infuse until I put the Zeus rom on it. It locked up, turned off, and rebooted itself all the time. The battery drained quickly when it was idle while I was sleeping it would be dead within a few hours from a full charge.
However now that I put a rom on it I don't have any of those issues and actually like the phone now.
If you go with the Infuse, I highly recommend Zeus as the best custom ROM for the phone.

+1.
I bought my infuse for the display and the size.
How this has played out scenario:
I walk up to the girls.
I whip it out. I say "Check this out, baby!"
They're like, "Oh WOW. It's so big!"
I'm like, "Yeah. I know. Thank you."
They're like, "Can I touch it?"
I'm like, "Sure, Baby."
Another guy comes up and say, "Check out my smaller cappy with ICS."
They're like, "Yeah, yeah, whatever. We wanna play with Mr. Big"
Jk

I'm not on cm7 anymore but if i remember right there is a setting that you have to turn on to use your internal sd.
