Hey guys,
I am a little lost on this. I was looking on the Infuse and thought about getting it and unlocking it to use with tmobile and was wondering if i would get 4g speeds on it. Here is the bands i pulled off on AT&T's website for the phone:
GSM/EDGE:GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 3G - UMTS/HSDPAHSPA 850/1900/2100 4G*HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul
According to this, it should work. Am i mistaken?
Thanks

Um, why would you think it would work? Do you see UMTS1700 in there? I don't.
I thought it used 2100? I don't know much about the bands. Just started reading on who supported what.
tmobile uses mainly the 1700 band for 3g/4g. they also own the 700 band but i dont believe they use it. att is mostly on the 850 and 1900 bands. european and asian bands are typically 900 and 2100 so they dont really use those bands to keep unlocked phones off the network. the infuse does not work for 3g and 4g on tmobiles network, sorry.
ahh ok. that makes sense now. I've mainly stuck with tmobile phones, except tried an iphone a couple of times. but att has some cooler phones that i thougth i might want to try, but guess that won't happen now . I use the net on my phone alot, so it would be an issue.
Actually AT&T's weird bands have nothing to do with keeping unlocked phones off their network, just the fact that 2100 MHz wasn't available in the US for any carrier.
UMTS2100 is for international roaming, as it's the standard UMTS band in almost every other country.
T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100, and you NEED both for 3G/4G to work.
i though the att bands were the same as rogers, bell, and telus use in canada? and the same as used in some other countries in the americas and in places like new zealand. i wouldnt exactly say att has the weird bands in this case.
maybe in a year or two att will merge networks with t-mo and you will have a huge selection of compatable phones.
its the same as rogers in canada, and telstra in australia. i belive bell and telus are cdma.

the bell vibrant is an i9000 and the telus fascinate is a t-mo vibrant, the modems all work on the captivate. trust me they are all gsm networks and fully compatable with att phones.
As people have pointed out before, you can only get 2G on AT&T with the G2X. What I haven't been able to find, is this a hardware deficiency or software-locked out in the baseband or elsewhere in the ROM?
from what i've read before this was a software issue with the baseband. The phone is touted by LG and in its specs that its a quad band GSM phone that supports all the 3G bands.
as always I could be wrong though- it would be interesting to see if the new baseband that was included in the LG leak is compatibile with ATT 3G bands or not.
i was able to update my g2x to the new baseband along w/ CM7 nightly 89 and I could still only get AT&T 2G, NOT 3G. =[
found this article again, so the answer is definately not: http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/27/t-mobile-g2x-lacks-quadband-hspa-shatters-dreams/
Hi guys, so this is my first post and i do not want to be such a noob but i certainly know this is a stupid question.... anyways i'm from costa rica new in the android world of this amazing lg optimus 3d phone, unfortunately here our carrier only work 3g on 850 mhz, i think this phone only comes in 900, as i read this is something with the hardware?? or not, is there a possible way to flash it to get 850 ? hey thank anyone who can helps !
Bands are hardware, you can't flash new ones in software.
The Thrill 4G (US Optimus 3D) supports 3G 850 Mhz bands so if buy that one and get it unlocked, you will be good to go.
You could also get the Rogers Optimus 3D because it also supports 3G 850 Mhz.

Khristoff,
I don't know if it will help you, but my Optimus 3D (P920H) from Claro Brazil works with 850mhz on HSDPA. I know that "Killer Bee" said about "Bands are hardware", but with my old android phone (Motorola Dext/CliQ) depending the firmware you use, you can add or lost some frequences.
here on XDA Delevopers have 2 posts about the firmwares and how to apply.

Oi! Hyuuga_br
Obrigado pela ajuda! Do you know if any of those FW include 850Mhz?
I read that Thrill and Optimus has the same HW, Am I wrong ? that means they should support same things... is there a way to put like a thrill FW on a optimus ( I am just telling what is in my mind you are the experts)
Specifications are different for the Thrill and the Optimus, but I wouldn't know if that's hardware of just firmware related:
Thrill 4G:
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
UMTS (3G): 850, 1900
Optimus 3D:
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
UMTS (3G): 900, 1900, 2100
Hey folks thanks a lot, looks like there are other carriers coming to my country that will use 900 MHZ so I think I will have to wait for them to use 3g heheheh thank you all for your responses!
what's the difference b/w P920 and P920G ? is there any radio difference ? I own a P925g here in India and carrier frequency is 900mhz/1800mhz. the phone does not identify my network.
By any chance now that GB is leaked and we can modify the Baseband's is there a way to modify the p920 BB to get 850 ? Just asking ...
if someone give me a hand I will probably work on it (if is possible)
Good Afternoon!
After looking at the frequencies above this may be why I was having difficulies registering on the network here in Ontario, Canada after flashing the Gingerbread baseband.
I too am interested in your question!
Thanks, Audi2Audi.
just a question, if someone can help, I has been reading all the afternoon and looks like P920H (LATAM version) have BB 850 GHz, and this is a supposition:
on this link :

Crime_of_heart is adding the GB baseband after installing the ROM using this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1244490
looks like he stucked @ 22% but it works....
so what if I try to mood the stock P920 with the V10k ROM and using this method I do change the BB to p920H
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19182870
Any Ideas?
I will give it a try and let you know how it goes, hope dnt brick my phone jajaja lol
I try to install Thriller ROM with no success in signal and it crashes, hehe I will have to check some of the p920h stuff to move on
Telstra 850MHz UMTS(WCDMA-3G) baseband for LG Optimus 3D
Has anyone had any success using baseband from more Telstra (850MHz) capatible LG mobile, and sqeezing it somehow into an Optimus 3D...
Great handset, but the reception on Telstra is damn frustrating..
Cheers,
Michael
Im planning to buy either one of this phone but something is confusing me about the 3G. I dont have a 4g plan only 3g. Will there be a difference in speed if i use 3g for both phone?
I copied this from gsm arena. This confuses me???
G2x HSDPA, 21 Mbps; HSUPA
Optimus 2x HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps
G2X is for USA T-Mobile bands 4g/3g, edge as well. The optimus 2X is for European bands on DT

It depends on where you are going to be using the phone. The 2X (P990) baseband chip is slower than the G2X's (P999) baseband chip. Having said that you need to buy the phone based on where you plan to use it. The P999 only works on 1700 and 2100Mhz 3/4G networks. The P990 works on 900, 1900 and 2100Mhz 3G networks. Be careful as there are some P999s marketed as 2X, such as in Canada by Wind Mobile. G2X is a proprietary T-Mobile name and only they can use it. So you should think in terms of P990 and P999, not 2X and G2X.
I was reading somewhere that tmobile's 4g is the same speed as wind's 3g

T-Mobile doesn't have true 4G. They have HSDPA+ which can get speeds up to 42Mbps but you never see these speeds in real life. The modem in the P999 (G2X) has a max download capability of 21Mbps. There is no definition of 4G so carriers like T-Mobile can call anything they want as 4G as a marketing ploy. Here in Thailand we have 42Mpbs speeds now but nobody has the balls to call it 4G. For example, TOT3G calls it 3.9G. So yes, it is very possible that T-Mobile's 4G is the same as Wind's 3G if Wind is running HSDPA+, which most carriers have deployed by now.

I'm in the USA. What coverage can I get with my G2X (P999) in Europe?
And does the suffix make a difference? Mine comes up as an LG-P999bn.

Almost all of Europe uses 2100Mhz so you are better off with a P999 (G2X) because it has a faster 3G radio (21Mbps) as compared to a P990 (7.2Mbps). Both phones will work in Europe on almost all (if not all) 3G systems.
"BN" is a new one. Haven't heard of that one before. Most of the suffixes don't mean much. They designate hardware revisions or refurb units. Other known suffixes are DW, DWU, DWDP and WA. You sure it is "BN?" The LG Updater doesn't show that suffix as supported as of yet. Probably because yours came with the latest v21e rom so there is nothing for the updater to updater yet on yours.
I flashed Optimus 3D(P920) firmware on LG Thrill (P925) and got it updated to v21a. (2.3.5). now is there a way to change the bands? so I can use the T-mobile or Wind 3G network that uses 1700/2100 bands? Cause originally the phone has HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100. so is there a way to put the P920 baseband in to make it work on the 1700?
chances are it already has 1700 mhz band on it with v21a. only thing left to do is to change apn setting. for tmo its epc.tmobile.com. few people have confirmed on this thread

The post above is correct I am using my thrill with v21a with apn epc.Tmobile.com

i have a U.S. lg 4g thrill p925. 3 months old, its unlocked and on t mobile (2g sucking service). i have read EVERY thread on here .
