[Q] Need to get to broken phone using Bluetooth or USB - General Questions and Answers

Hi everyone,
I have a friend with an LG KM900f touchscreen mobile phone. She needs to copy / access her old SMS's on the phone urgently (this phone is no longer used, there is no SIM and no data card, the messages are in the phone memory).
The phone is in "Music Device" mode when connecting to a PC via USB with or without the battery in place.
The touchscreen is broken and/or not responding so I can't change it into PC-Suite mode on the phone.
I have dismantled and cleaned and reassembled the entire phone - the touchscreen still doesn't work.
I need either a computer utility that I can force access via USB or Bluetooth to get to the SMS's on the phone - she just needs a copy.
Alternatively I have a WinMo 6.5 htc, so if anyone knows of a Bluetooth bluebug app that will let me force my way into her phone to get a copy of the messages without having to key or acknowledge it at her phone's end, that could be a way forward...
All the Mobile "forensic" software programs out there that I could find require the mobile to be in PC-Suite mode for access - bit hard with a broken touchscreen. Even their tech support throw their hands up and say "tough luck".
Any pointers in the right direction? Is the anything I can do to get the SMS's for her?
Thanks guys!

Access data from Samsung Tocco Lite S5230 via USB Cable

I have a Samsung Tocco Lite S5230, otherwise known as Samsung Star, Samsung Player One, Samsung S5233 or Samsung Avila in different countries. I have not modified the firmware. I bought the phone originally with an Orange UK contract but it was not locked as it was from a 3rd party phone shop.
The touchscreen is not responding so I am looking for a way to get my data off it via the USB cable. Unfortunately, in the settings for the phone, it is set to prompt on USB connection to determine which USB mode to use (the options are Media Player, PC Suite, Mass Storage).
So I am wondering what options I have to try to access the data without relying on the touchscreen. If I could change that setting to default PC Suite mode I'd probably be fine as pretty much everything (except for text messages longer than 160 characters) can be access via the PC Suite software. But since the touchscreen isn't responding I can't change this setting.
1. From looking around I am lead to believe that this phone runs the Bada platform?
2. I have a computer which dual boots Ubuntu and Windows.
2a. In Ubuntu, if I connect the USB cable before entering the Sim card pin, the operating system prompts me automatically to enter the pin which allows me to start up the phone; I'm not sure if this is helpful but it seems like a step in the right direction.
2b. In Windows, I haven't found any way to use the computer keyboard to enter the sim card pin, and if I start PC Suite, the computer prompts me to select the PC Suite option on the phone's screen [which I can't do].
I had seen clues to suggest that this phone runs on the Bada Platform? But I have just found this post which seems to claim that a related model does not run Bada?
Perhaps someone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction to help me find some software that can be used to access the phone via the USB cable without relying on the touchscreen?
Thanks in advance for any pointers
PS - as a bonus though probably more for interest than for any practical purpose, is there a way to enter the SIM card PIN from Windows like I can on Ubuntu?
Hello,
I have the problem also,
for a solution I would be happy

Urgent: need backup of A8 2018 with broken/black screen for upcoming court case.

I'm helping a friend who needs backup of her broken phone for an upcoming court case.
I need to extract all photos (camera, snapchat etc) and text messages (sms/mms).
The phone seems to be working other than the screen and touch controls.
Replacing/repairing the screen isn't an option as we both have minimal funds, and my friend has a new phone already)
i have "access" to the phone, but neither USB Debughing nor MTP is enabled so i cannot access any files.
I'm able to unlock it with a keyboard connected (i hear the little unlock click after entering the pin, and the "turn off screen" click when i press the power button.) But i have to navigate blindly, and any guide i find seems arbitrary how to get to settings, it says to press win+n (same as pulling down the quick settings menu from home) and press tab an arbitrary number of times to get to the settings gear in the corner. i tried doing this on my own working note 10 plus with the external keyboard, but i see it scrolls through every notification, so unless you know the number of notifications, hitting the gear is just pure luck.
I have also tried hooking up a usb-c to hdmi dongle (which works and starts dex on my n10+) but it says no signal on the A80, so external monitor seems out of the question.
Is there a consistent way to enter settings, or any way to enable the following settings:
* enable voice assistant (accessibility settings so i can hear where i am and navigate using voice/sound)
* enable USB MTP (or similar so i atleast can access files from a computer)
* enable USB debugging (to use ADB to screenmirror and/or etc)
* alternatively clear notifications so entering settings should become consistant with number of keypresses
I have tried some apps like dr fone but it doesnt support backup from this model, and any other settings wants to wipe the phone.
I have tried holding both volume buttons to enable google voice assist, but also unsure if this ever worked
The phone is not on wifi and i am not 100% sure if wifi is enabled at the moment, nor if it has the current wifi password my friend uses, but i can try do do things from there if internet access will help.
I dont think google now nor bixby (if this phone has that) is enabled as i dont get any reply or voice ding while pressing the win key (home button normally on working android)
I think i can enter recovery and download modes, i got COM5 on odin, but I'm unsure if i ever get into recovery menu.. but even then, is there any custom recovery firmware that will enable usb mtp access at all for this device?
Also, I'm not able to have a computer connected at the same time as a keyboard as I'm using a wired keyboard with OTG adapter.
Tl;dr:
Have:
* A80 with broken unresponsive screen.
* Have access blindly through otg keyboard
Need:
* Need to enable mtp and/or usb debug (alt. Voice assist)
* Need consistent way to access settings
Both MUST be done using only wired otg keyboard.
Tried:
* Hdmi out (no signal)
* computer recovery software (no dice)
* having computer and keyboard connected simultaneously (keyboard works, pc doesnt recognize, could be dongle)
Hope someone can help me (us) fast.

have you been able to verify that the MTP device actually works with other phones?
those things can be picky

USB MTP is just file tranfer?
F.ex. if i use smartswitch on pc, it first tells me to unlock the phone, if i unlock the phone with the otg keyboard and reconnect it it says i cannot tranfer files because MTP is not enabled in settings.

sorry man, i meant MHL adapter.
As far as i found out, A8 does not support MHL/HDMI out..
guess ill spend the weekend to try to get voice assist working by blind trail and error :/
If anyone could provide screenshots of the settings menu and/or recovery menu (and if its possible to enter without touching the screen, and if so how) that would be greatly appreciated.
The phone should be mostly completely stock set up, but home icons might have moved and menu icons might not be in the same place, but i think the pull down menu should be the same as any stock setup, so a screenshot of that would be nice too
Hi
As far as Android goes, by unlocking the phone and plugging it into a computer then you should be able to view the files on the phone from the PC like any USB drive. What you can also do is use Samsung Smart Switch and do a backup of the phone on a PC as this will be able to pull all text messages, photos, etc into a backup folder. Then you can restore any part of that backup on another Samsung phone, including messages.
There may be a few things that will not transfer over. As far as viewing the photos and other files, you can navigate to the backup folder on the PC and check everything there. This is all provided that the phone actually works and is unlocked.

As stated in my original post, usb-MTP (file transfer) is not enabled by default, and my friend never connected the phone to a computer, so i have to enable it to be able to access anything.
The phone connects and seems to work fine except the display, smart switch says to enable mtp pn the phone to transfer files after i unlock it, so my problem is activating talkback so i have aural navigation help so i can turn on usb/mtp for file transfer(and hopefully adb) or to turn on usb directly, but i think talckback is the highest priority as it will help me navigate the phone and be sure of where i am, an accidental keypress on can ruin a long sequence and i would have to start again from scratch as i cannot know if im in the same location.
Hi.
Any update on this? I have exactly the same problem and no solution so far...
Thanks

Unlock help on misc device

I have a device that's evidently called an Edge Mini tablet purchased from the prison system while I was incarcerated. Known issues are battery explosions as mine did. All I have is a circuit board in which Device Manager on pc recognizes something briefly and disappears.
I spent nearly $2k on music and would like to find help on retrieving it somehow.
All I know is that it has a custom Android build and and i cannot view the device on its screen, however thr computer reads it.
Much help needed!

I have never heard of the device that you are using, after doing a quick google search it seems that you should probably contact a business called the keefe group. They are the distributors and provide support for that proprietary device.
https://www.keefegroup.com/home/contact-us-105
Here is the User manual: https://fccid.io/2AHUC-EDGEMINI-AA/User-Manual/User-manual-3073167
If all you have is the circuit board , then most likely your chances are recovering encrypted data are not good at all.
Ideally, you would need to boot into the system and enter developer options, turn on USB debugging, allow an external device MTC connection etc., which allows you to connect to your PC.
On the other hand, its an older Operating system, with less secure software. Perhaps, for a technicians easy access the steps I listed above have already been setup. If so, try downloading the USB driver for that device, and then reboot your PC. If the issue is a driver issue, you should now have access to the internal storage and will be able to copy over your files, by connecting the board to your desktop, using the usb power cable. If the PC reads the device, you should be able to see the internal storage by going to this PC, and it would be under device and drives.
Are you sure that your files are not backed up to a server that you can remotely access? Worst case, I would look into that option.
Good luck.

Help Accessing Data on Screen Locked P20

Hi - wondering if anyone out there can think of a solutions to this...
So, my wife cracked her phone screen (Huawai P20) and bought a cheap phone to use short term while we worked out a replacement (Alcatel 1). When setting up the temporary phone, not all of the data from her P20 was install/copied, mainly because there's not enough storage space to hold it all.
Some of the data left on the P20 is really important (downloaded documents/files and pevious whatsapp history), so I was going to hook it up to a PC and grab all the data from it, but the biggest problem is she can't remember the unlock pattern. I know developer mode/USB debugging is not turned on, so I can't even get a PC/ADB to recognise it, plus I've had to connect it to a mouse and monitor (via HDMI/USB adapter) to even view/control the unlock screen.
I'm pretty sure that without the pattern we have little or no options, but was wondering if anyone knew the answers to the following:
Is there any way to unlock the phone using the old PIN that was set (she's confident she knows this)?
Is there a way to unlock using the finger print sensor (even though is says 'pattern required due to restart')
Should ADB list it as a device even though USB debigging is turned off and the phone is screen locked (currently does not list it, but I thought you could PIN unlock via ADB)
Does anyone know any other tools/options for accessiing the files on the phone.
Thanks is advance for any help!
Basically you can access Android's filesystem in ADB-mode or in MTP-mode: the latter should always be possible.
Even if USB Debuging is turned off and the screen is locked? Any tips on how to get the PC to see the device in MTP mode?
Thanks!
My wifey has a Huawei Y7 with HiSuite installed on Windows PC and HDB enabled on phone. As soon as she connects PC with phone over USB, confirms the verification code, phone gets mounted on PC as external USB-drive and thus visible in MTP-mode.
My guess is you have to take your Huawei to authorized service center and let them try to fix it.
Ah Ok. HiSuite asks for USB Debugging to be enabled first, which i can't do because it's locked. Thanks for you help anayway.

Question; How to retrieve (internal) data from blacked out mate 20 X

Hi XDAers ... I have a challenge.
Huawei mate 20X fell.
Screen broke, as in black.
Phone turns on and can get into recovery, but nothing more.
Unsure if it is sitting and waiting for my unlock code (tried it on the black screen a few times wout success), or what it's doing.
The output over hdmi is also black (but this is most likely due to not being able to select the correct mode when usb connected.
Does anyone here have any ideas on how I can extract the data (internal - no sd card) from the phone ?
My computer recognizes a usb connection, HiSuite also recognized a Huawei connection, but says the device not connected.
RPi also sees a usb device, but nothing can be mounted (suspect again need to allow this on the phone screen).
Any ideas ?
Thx
Iyah.
HiSuite HDB activated on device?
HiSuite is a software that allows you to exchange data between our Huawei device and a PC. For data transfer, HiSuite HDB must be approved on the Huawei smartphone, as this function is equivalent to USB debugging and thus frees up more rights to access the smartphone.
HI,
Not sure tbh if it was enabled on the phone, but too late now in any case if ti was not.
Not sure any Huawei tools would help now. Suspect some sorcery with fastboot and something like a CM image required (does that evne still exist ?? Many years since I've tried anything similar).
how about fixing the screen ? any service should be able to replace the broken screen.
Yep fixing the screen looks like the "mechanical" way forward.
At $100 though was thinking might be better to just get a new phone .. and grab the data off of this one.
And what if the new screen doesn't fix the issue (think it'S the screen ... but can never be sure).
Would prefer a bit of sorcery, but if that's not possible, might need to risk the $100.
