Hey guys,
I have a small but interesting question. Some one is selling a galaxy S2 really cheap, which has supposedly been turned on by him for only a few minutes. Its factory unlocked and had all the stickers and stuff on it with a brand new box. One weird thing was it was already rooted. I was wondering if there was anyway I could find out how long the phone had been used. Something which isn't affected by .sbf flashing or anything of the sort. A fool proof way of knowing how much the phone was used. In the old nokia phones there was
Code:
*#92702689#
which showed the lifetimer. Does android have anything similar? Any help would be appretiated. Thanks
Either he us lying or he did actually turn it on for a few minutes, but whoever had it before him rooted and unlocked it. Make sure you get the whole story bc SGS2 is a top phone. If it is cheap, there must be a reason. Check for corrosion on the battery points and make sure it can get into download mode. Hold volume up + down and push power. When S splash comes up, release the power but keep holding volume rocker.

So my phone was working ok (as far as a new phone having issues can be). I had plugged it into the charger and was setting some tasker settings when the screen started having issues responding to my touch. I put it to sleep and woke it back up and it wasn't responding to let me unlock it. I pulled the power cord and it started working again. So I plugged it back in and was doing the same thing. So I rebooted it and now the phone boots up and shows the notification bar and that I have messages. But it won't show anything else and when I try to tap on the messages in the notification bar, nothing happens. I tried tapping on settings and nothing happened.
So I looked up how to do a hard reset (tried both holding volume down + power as well as volume up down + up + power) and it powers down but nothing else happens. Do AT&T HTC One Xs have a different hard reset method? Is there a restore option I could do with my computer? Or should I just take it back to AT&T and have them replace it?
I am coming from an iPhone 4S and was about ready to sell my 4S but this is giving me cause to not sell it. This is my first android phone as I've always felt android to be a half built OS and this is certainly not making a case for itself.
Off topic question, but how are you going to sell your 4S? What is the best avenue for selling?
we have a classifieds ads website here that everybody buys stuff from. I actually repair and sell iPhones/iPads/iPods as a side job so I have my 4S fully customized with a different color frame as well as front and back glass. So if/when I sell it, should fetch somewhere around $600-$650.
I got $600 for my 64 GB 4s. I did it on Craig's List. I probably could have gotten more but I wanted it gone quickly.
ya, mine is as 32gb. I can't imagine anybody willing to pay $800 for a modified 64gb.
I'm selling my 16gb 4s factory unlocked, asking 550 on Craigslist but I hate using Craigslist. Sketchy as hell, I'd rather sell to a company or something.

Phones in my past experiences have all mostly done this. Using your phone while charging has always been an experience for me. Just saying.
?
Figured out how to do the hard reset. For some reason holding down the volume down button and the power button didn't work at first. I continued to hold them down then I let go of the power and left my finger on the volume down button. I then decided to let my finger off the volume down button for a split second and push it back in. Took a second but the screen came up and I was able to choose the factory reset. Fixed the issue.
I've opened up the case as per the instructions on XDA and cleaned everything out. However, even when I try to boot without the case on, the power button seems to be stuck (maybe it's stuck even more internally and I can't get access to that).
I mean, I tried to boot the phone without fully reassembling the case (i.e. with the white button still showing) and it still boots when I put in the battery and the loops.
I don't know what else I can do. I no longer have warranty (I got my phone last year from Rogers). What should I do guys?

I'm in a similar spot. I've opened the case and cleaned it several times, the power button will stick occasionally. Managed to figure out that touching it lightly on the outside doesn't seem to make it stick as often, but it's still far from perfectly usable. Called the AML (Rogers store) location I purchased it from and like you I'm out of warranty - Rogers seems to have some kind of refurb trade in program if you're willing to entertain that. I've found some sites with repair parts for the Skyrocket and one that says they'll fix the power button. Really I'd like to upgrade but not sure if I can wait around until the X-Phone comes out, HTC One and S4 at least are closer. In the meantime making do with an iPhone 5 provided through work.
Here's the site I found on repair parts: http://www.cellphonerepairshop.com/samsung-skyrocket-sgh-i727/
And the one on power button repair: http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-power-button-repair/
Second one's domain / url looks kind of suspect.
It's funny it seems like there are a bunch of people / threads posting about worse than usual stuck power buttons that don't respond to cleaning so maybe that indicates the part just is not that durable and is reaching end of life. In contrast I have to say the industrial design / build quality of the iPhone 5 seems much higher grade.

When did you buy your skyrocket? I got mine around mid January and I can't believe that it's already nearly unusable. I am actually considering going for the Note 2 since I've always struggled with battery life on Skyrocket. I guess you're not going to end up doing the repairs (especially since there is no guarantee that the power button can be fixed)?
Been a watcher on the forums for awhile, now I actually had to sign up and get some help, LOL.
Anyway, dropped my s2 skyrocket, noticed that it kept trying to reboot every now and then when I used it the same day. The next day, I plugged it in in the evening, and shut off, rebooted, but the screen would go black and the phone would vibrate with 2 seconds in between vibrations. It gets to the "Samsung" word, then the screen goes black in the style of an old tube TV (with the thin white line at the end). Then the vibrations start. So far a useless phone. Took it apart and checked connections carefully (I'm used to working with processor boards quite a bit).
What do you guys suggest? Damaged memory? Should I attempt to reflash? Stuck power button (seemed ok, though)? Bad screen?
Well, probably some kind of physical damage, but hard to say. Anyway, you posted in the forum for SGH-I777 but you have the SGH-I727, so I would suggest that you look in the correct forum.

Oh, thanks for the heads up. Yeah I just figured out that the i727 isn't in "Top Devices" or "Legacy," so you have to go to all forums. Ugg. Already moved. Thanks to whoever notified mod.
Anyway, yeah, any help would be AWESOME. What physical damage would prevent booting past the "Samsung" screen and default to a black screen that intermittently vibrates?
I'll be honest, if ur asking that question probably something u don't have the current skill set to fix. Try to Odin back stock, but if it started post-drop you may be SOL and in need of a new phone.
Got it into download mode after multiple failed attempts. Each time I would get it into download mode, the screen would shut off after about 5 seconds of being on. I tried several combinations of plugging it in first, then installing the battery, or holding down the button while I plugged it in with no battery, etc. I had just given up after getting it into download mode briefly for the 20th time, when I gave it one more go while rocking the on and off button. Technically that is recovery mode, but I let off right before plugging the phone in and it hit download mode and stuck.
So what I am thinking is the power button got jammed internally. I have heard of it happening on other forums. Even though it looks good and clicks upon external examination, the pressure circuit on the inside might be in contact. Anyway, just one theory.
For future though, I did discover that you don't HAVE to have the USB unplugged prior to getting into download mode. On the contrary, a power source must be present in order to register that the keys are pressed PRIOR to initiating USB input. Thus, you can actually remove the battery, plug in the USB (power source), then hold the volume keys while replacing the battery. Goes into download mode that way, too.
Will keep you guys updated. Might need a bit more help if the phone starts acting up again.
At this point, if the Download mode still holds ok, should I consider CyanogenMod, or is it easier to get back a good ROM from stock?

Thanks for the reply. I don't understand much about smart phones or how they work, but trust me when I say I have had AMPLE experience with electronics, circuit boards, hardware, etc., particularly in the computer/laptop world. I code quite a bit of websites, and understand almost all things networking and OS. Just never really got into it with the phones.
Getting super excited to see the sheer amount of modding you can do though. Would love to break into a hardware modding world if it ever comes available. That's where it's at with electronics for me.
Well glad u got it sorted, lucky guy you are lol.
As for boards and the like, if it didn't work I would've suggested replacing the motherboard and/or power daughter board. But for a skyrocket may not be worth the money.
Since you're a hardware guy, maybe mess around with the phone and JTAG? Finding a way to unbrick without it would be very helpful
Since the problems started after a physical damage (fall) , I wonder how would Odin or wipe and flash might work !
Definitely a hardware damage...
Yeah, it kinda puzzled me, too. I believe the power button might have been internally stuck, but that's just one idea. Could have been a loose connection, too.
Can you lose some solid state memory with firmware on it, but the SS memory still be OK to right another copy on?
More than likely it was your power button

Hi, i recently got screwed, bigtime. The power button on my N5 seems dead. It is acting, like its always pressed in, it causes the phone to essentially bootloop, but sometimes I can manage to get so far as the PIN code, and the apps are starting, but the screen kepps getting locked, and stuff. I'm sure, that it is the power button, that is faulty. I dont want to wait weeks for a replacement, if I dont have to, so I'm left wandering, it there any tool / adb hack that I could use to remap the power button to say... volume up? On the absolute ground zero, so the device would even use it to power up, not just to use the volume + as the power button after it booted. Thanks.
You'll need to fix the button. Otherwise you're always going to have issues. Won't be able to use recovery or bootloader likely... On top of your current issues.
It shouldn't cost much. ?
The answer is no.
I'm fairly certain, that you can only change it with the whole motherboard. That should be around 200$, but since they can't do it locally in my country, it's 200$ + shipping, most likely. That could be around 300$ in total, depending on where they'll need the ship the cursed thing.
If the warranty covers it, than mabe I'll just have to pay shipping, or maybe nothing at all. But anyways, it's at least 2-3 weeks without a phone, and possibly a buttload of costs (I could buy one around 400$ right now.) Not really a good option.
@Lethargy well, thanks, at least I wont have to dig trough the whole internet
Hey y'all, so I'm not sure how well hardware related questions go down on here usually, but not sure where else to ask. So I have about 2.5 Samsung Galaxy s6's. All were given to me at different stages slash periods of time and none of them exactly work fully. Where I am at now is sort of realizing that either: 1. I have to faulty digitizers, or 2. the one battery I have between them is completely shots, or 3. a combination of one and two as well as some other s*** going on.
So what I have for parts AR, two motherboards two digitizers, three bodies, and one battery. I get kind of the same issue switching between the motherboards which is this: I will plug the phones in to my computer and it will read them and say something like SM and then the numbers that represent the s6, and I'll have a either red l LED for a while which will then turn green after a while charging, or a blue LED from the get-go which I believe just stays blue the entire time. Now, the weird thing is that neither of the phones will turn on, however, whenever I push the home button with either digitizer or either motherboard, it will cause the LED to turn off, but will not cause the phone to stop being recognized by the computer. When I say recognized by the computer I don't mean it shows up in the my PC folder, like where I can access the files and such, it just shows up in the device manager, thus giving me the impression that it never actually turns on. This also happens if I end a press up on the volume at any point in time. Also worth noting whenever I unplug it from the computer or just from the charger, the phone will power off completely as in not be recognized by the computer. So, any ideas? I'm thinking of just selling the phones as is maybe for a 150 total for everything but I'd like to fix that myself if it's just something as small as a battery issue. the volume up button and the home button turn the phones off though, is what really perplexes me. Thanks for any insight, much appreciated for the read and have a good Thanksgiving.

dang man, id just sell em unless you want a winter project. I just bought a Sunfire sub that has some issues for a winter project, but thats because im a dork and i like that kind of stuff. Anyways, my opinion is just to sell it and get something else that works. I had a buddy offer me a HUGE pile of phones and their respective parts to fix them for like $200 and i gave a hard no.
Damn never heard of such an issue? I'd had hoped that the volume up key as well as the home button both restarting (or, turning the LED off for about ten seconds at least) would have been some kind of dead giveaway, if not just a straight up common occurrence, haha. I even got ANOTHER S6 last night from a homie (asked her if I could borrow the battery lol, she just gives me the whole broken phone) to try and switch out parts, which I'm gonna give a quick shot at tonight at least. But man, no responses other than hours has me quite discouraged :') lol thanks for the time to read at least tho my dude ?
