So I was finally able to root my shift and I flashed the stock gingerbread rom with the patch but Im still getting thethe system update notifcation. Is there anyway to disable it or is there another stock gb rom with sense?
To disable the notification go into : Menu-Settings-Sysytem Updates- HTC Software Updates. Uncheck it, then reboot. If you want a very close to stock GB Rom with a few extras try:

I'm not sure if your talking about sprint stock rom with only root (you have sprint stock then rooted) or infinite x's rom with a2sd?
Anyhow if your running sprint stock rom with only root you'll have to deodex com.htc.resources.apk and htcdialer.apk and adb push them back then delete the com.htc.resources.odex and HtcDialer.odex reboot and retry.
Also what dialer are you trying to install?
Just applied the latest update for 2.2.1. However before i did that i used 928droid's "stock odexed theme" to get back to as close to stock as possible to avoid problems.
Now how will i go about getting themes again? Can i use their "deodexer" them on the newest 2.2.1 update. Or will i have to manually do it? And even then, are we able to install 2.2 themes on the newest 2.2.1 update?
2.2.1 Deodex issue
I did the exact same as you by returning from 928 to "stock odexed theme", then I unrooted before getting the OTA. I wanted to avoid any problems for the update. I rerooted with z4root and all was well at that point. When I tried to go back with the 928 "deodexer" theme my phone would not reboot. I pulled the battery, started over and had the same result. Probably need to wait for a 928 update that works with system version 2.3.340 as the latest one available is for 2.3.15.

Ok, so I just purchased a rooted G2x off of ebay. I'm coming from a moto cliq (yes, make fun of me) So i'm a bit over my head when it comes to custom ROMs and such. I'm on 2.2.2, and need to know what I should do.....
I've been having some data connection issues even if i'm on Wifi, the connection will just drop and won't come back for about 15 seconds. It's getting pretty bad, and i'm exasperated atm.
Do I upgrade to the LG 2.3.3? I don't want to lose my camera's features.
Do I install CM7? will that fix any of the touch screen issues and connection drops?
In your opinion, what would you do if you were in my shoes?
I'm open for all suggestions.
I would go for the update because it updates the baseband which deals with radio signals and may help with your connectivity issues, i would TRY CM7 for a bit and see how it goes. You can backup in Clockword Mod Receovery and when you restore to that backup you will have exactly what you backed up from. So backup on 2.3.3 --> install CM7 --> try it out for a few days ---> restore if you dont like/keep if you do.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still a bit confused though, when you say install 2.3.3 and backup(is that the stock 2.3.3 from LG>). Does that mean i'll lose my root? and I was under the impression that CM7 was GB, just a custom build with root permissions.
Lastly, how would I install the LG froyo camera?
Thanks for the help

Doing the official update may help because it upgrades your baseband.
You'll lose root until you restore you CM7 backup.
CM7 is GB but there is no way to update the baseband currently (that I know of) without doing the update.
You can't currently on CM7.

Again thanks for the quick reply. If i used CWM via NvFlash to backup my current image(2.2.2 rooted) and then updated to 2.3.3 via LG GB. Would I be able to go back to my 2.2.2 rooted if I didn't like 2.3.3?
Thanks to both

You would be able to. But I was suggesting that you update to 2.3.3 (official) and then install Clockword mod recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847&highlight=clockworkmod) Then backup from there (2.3.3) and flash CM7 (based off of 2.3.5) and if you dont like THAT then restore to stock 2.3.3.
Another option would be to update --> install clockwork mod---> flash this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179748) Which is a rooted GB. This would leave you with a stock 2.3.3 ROOTED, if you like the stock.
Overall I'd definitely go for CM7 though. More features just great overall. Also if you're looking to overclock then it IS possible with the stock GB thanks to Faux (http://twitter.com/#!/faux123) flash the latest G2x kernel on his twitter. Then you can overclock.
Bottom line I would just backup your current 2.2.2, install 2.3.3 through the LG updater (be careful following instructions in doing so) and just flash different ROMs and see which ones cure your issues best and which suits you best.

Yes. After the official update you will have to flash clockworkmod recovery again, but then you can flash any rom you want.
4 questions that are problems that i have with my evo shift on metropcs and i would like to know if anyone has solutions to these problems.
1. Anyone know how to change the banner from mymetropcs.com to MetroPCS? ( I've tried to change it through CDMA workshop and I would save it and it would not change.)
2. Anyone know how to enhance the signal on this phone? I know it's flashed but am not getting service in most places.
3. Anyone know the kernel i could flash to the supreme sense 7.5 ROM?
4. How can i get voice mail notifications on this phone ? I have to manually call my phone number just to manage and know how many voice mails i have. So may anyone know or can direct me to a thread or solution to this problem.
I would really appreciate the help please and thank you very much
NOTE: (Underlined questioned have already been answered on thread)
Well... icl could answer ur second question (if it helps) Dial *228 and wait till the machine says "for the latest roaming list, say roaming list" and just say "roaming list". Wait a little until the machine finishes. Press exit once your done. What this does is update your prl which gives you a better chance of getting 3g/4g.
yo mean 3g if lucky this phone doesn't run on LTE 4G it actually updated the prl and unlocked something idk but it said that i programmed the phone and it was successful and it rebooted Thanks again
No prob OH btw it unlocks your spl...
I can answer the kernel question kinda, and that's because its up to the kernel to decide if it likes your phone, I know it sounds weird but one kernel isn't good for all phones, I used to run x99s ext3 kernel because for some reason I just could never get the dodge kernel to agree with my phone/current setup or settings, but then dodge released a conversion for an ext4 file system and has an amazing ext4 kernel to go with the conversion, so I guess its just all about how the kernel decides to act on your phone, also not all phones can handle the same clock speed either mine tops out at 1804 any higher ill lock up, but I know people that can make it to 2 GHz+ so try them all it won't hurt anything

Make sure you DL the right Kernel , for your Rom version. 2.2 Kernels do not work with 2.3 Roms, and the same goes the other way around. If you have a 2.2 Rom you need a 2.2 Kernel. If you have a 2.3 Rom you need a 2.3 Kernel.
kernel = dodge 1.6.
data = search for ##3282# tweaks. willpost more later.
Has this kernal been tested to work ?

No need for Kernel Manager. Just boot into recovery. If your using Ext.3, and want to stay that way Wipe Dalvik, Wipe Cache. Then flash the Ext.3 Kernel, and reboot. If you want to update to the Ext.4 Kernel follow the instructions in th OP of dodge's thread. Either way there's no need to use Kernel Manager.

i wiped dalvik and cache flashed 1.3 through CWM and it booted and only the notification bar was visible.
I have two questions...
1. I had rooted my A2 when it was 2.3.5 and deleted a few apps. When the OTA update to 2.3.6 rolled around, I couldn't update because ATT is a grouch. Anyway, to solve that problem, I had to flash stock 2.3.5 back onto the phone removing root access and everything. I then proceeded to update to 2.3.6 which is fine. that's running stock as I type this. My question is, if I root it again on 2.3.6 (I know it's there...) and I freeze apps, when another OTA update rolls around, will I be able to update again? I don't want to have to flash it back to 2.3.6...(can I even do that yet?) so any help here would be appreciated.
2. I was out and about, and was looking at one of my friend's phones. She has this HTC HD2 running Android 2.3.3 AOSP. She uses ADWLauncher, etc etc. This is a Windows Phone, originally. That got me thinking...is there a AOSP version of Gingerbread for my A2? Without Blur? I'm kinda scared to do anything to it, because I want to be able to get ICS come July. Any tips here would help.
Sorry for not using the searchbar, I was just having trouble finding this info. Thanks guys!
1. Yes. Freezing apps / removing bloat as root will almost definitely keep you from the any OTA. Its the nature of the beast. You can always return to stock and apply the updates later. Also, any major update like ICS will produce a lot of posts here about how to update from an altered rom.
2. There is development work on getting CM7 to work on our phone. Currently the only released ROM that I am aware of is lfaber06's ROM

When a major update such as ICS is released, there will be alternate ways to install such as through bootstrap. Hopefully we'll find a leaked version of ICS before that, and pull the radio get CM9 working
Okay. So I'm planning on rooting it...now...but when I flashed 2.3.5 from the fxz someone provided, it said that once you updated to 2.3.6 you could never go back...but...
I'll try it.
What's bootstrap? I've heard about it and no one has been able to dumb it down for me...could anyone do that?
You can flash the FXZ after the update. It just requires a bit of modification and care. You might want to read the noob thread. It has lots of useful info.
Bootstrap is a way to backup, restore, and flash zips before android boots.
I just rooted the 2.3.6 it's running wonderfully.
Should I install the ibfaber deoxed rom? I mean I know I can do it per instructions but is it worth it?
It depends on what you want to do. If you want to apply any themes you will need to be running the deoxed rom. He also has a supercharged rom that has a lot more customization.
