Are you talking about trying to transfer files to/from a USB flash drive? If so, I've encountered the same. I spoke to Samsung tech support and they confirmed that the I727 Skyrocket is not OTG USB Host Enabled... while the GS2 I777 stock kernel is Host enabled. That said, there was one member on this forum who states their stock Skyrocket is OTG USB Host enabled (allowing him to transfer files to/from a USB flash drive). We need a developer to advise if/when a kernel (preferable stock + otg USB host enabled) can be developed for our i727 Skyrocket.
If you talking about transferring files to a computer, you should have that capability. Make sure USB Debugging is checked on phone and you have the correct drivers installed on your PC.

I'm talking about transferring files(pictures,movies,etc..) I have USB debugging enabled and I downloaded the drivers presented on the forums here. It just connects then disconnects repeatedly. I'm pretty sure its a driver issue but I'm using the ones from xda. I'm not sure where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated

You're not supposed to use USB Debugging for transferring files like that.
Just turn off debugging.
Then when you plug in the USB cable, the notifications bar should let you know it's connected. So click on that notification about the USB, then click the option to "connect".
It's kind of redundant if you ask me, but it's how it works.

I know it don't have to be ticked to transfer files. It does it whether its on or off. I'm just trying to get it to stay locked in so my computer recognizes it

And it also makes it quite frustrating to flash or anything via computer

Well I'm not sure then. Here's a few things to try:
1) Different USB port on your computer. If you're using a rear port, then try a front port. Sometimes they use different chipsets.
2) Different USB cable. They can get flakey sometimes.
3) Go into 3E Recovery and clear cache. Could be a setting that got whacked out.

Unable to mount File System

I just flashed to Pinnacle 1.3( was on Fasty III before ) and I've noticed that with Gingerbread Roms, i just cant seem to be able to Mount the File system on my Windows 7 pc.
Using USB-Debugging mode, i connect my Capy to my pc and then mount the file system, but it doesnt show up in my PC
i also tried directly mounting it as Mass Storage, again not showing up!
Tried all USB Ports, Different Cable etc etc
Weird thing is, when i flash back to Stock using Odin 1 click, ie when im on JF6, I am able to Mount the File system!!!
Another Weird thing is, that i am able to Mount my phone ( with Pinnacle or Fasty) on my friends PC, by installing the same drivers that i have for my PC
whats Wrong? I have also uninstalled all drivers and re installed them, used driver cleaners etc
Never had that problem on win 7. Don't know what to tell you.
Are you using the correct drivers?
Yea!! i am...i really dont know whats the problem! and i dont wanna format the whole thing!
Im using the drivers mentioned in the Sticky Threads...ODIN 1 click thread to be precise

When you say you tried another cable, do you mean another SAMSUNG cable or something else? The problem you describe is very often attributable to the cable. The Samsung cable that came with my Cappy worked just fine with my old computer (PowerMac G5), but refused to work with my new iMac.
I tried also using a RocketFish micro USB cable, and had zero luck with that.
After much screwing around and swearing, I tried using my wife's MOTOROLA cable, and the computer recognized the phone with that.
I'm nothing close to an expert on electronics, but I suspect it has something to do with voltages on different computers.
I suggest trying to get your hands on a Motorola cable and seeing if that fixes it. Perhaps the Gingerbread ROMs have different voltage settings? Dunno...but try a Motorola cable.
hmmmm, i just tried a micro usb cable from a blackberry....ill try out the Motorola one....thanks for the suggestion

You may have another option, too...at least for transferring files. I've been using an app called WiFi File Explorer PRO for several weeks, and I love it. You can connect to the phone via WiFi (if you have it available) and transfer files back and forth just using a web browser on your computer.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dooblou.WiFiFileExplorerPRO&feature=more_from_developer
Since I started using this app, I haven't needed to futz with a cable at all. It obviously won't help you with Odin, Heimdall, or any one-click utilities that require you to be connected via USB, but it will help you get files on your phone for flashing with CWM.
Not sure if it's an option for you, but it might help alleviate some of your issue.
Great Suggestion and seems very handy...thanks a lot!

[Q] SR not recognizing USB flash drive?

I bought one of these for my OG SGS2, and it worked flawlessly... just plugged in and phone recognized my USB flash drive... showed up under /sdcard/usbstorage, and could easily transfer files back and forth.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322406
I returned the OG SGS2 for the i727-SR a few days ago. However, for some reason the i727-SR does not recognize my USB flash drive like the OG did. Is there some other setting I'm missing? Anyone tried a USB Female to USB Micro Adapter on the SR to read a flash drive? Thx
you need a kernel for "USB on the GO"

So the OG GS2 stock kernel has this... but the i727-SR stock kernel does not?
Works fine on mine. Has to be an otg cable and not a gender changer.
Here's the thing... I have 2 of those cables.. both work fine with the i777 OG-GS2 (once connected, the "USB Device Connected" icon in pull-down appears and stays so you can disconnect later). However, on the i727-SR, when I connect the Sandisk flash drive (8Gb), it says "USB Device Connected"... "Media Scanning Completed", but the USB icon does not appear in pull down. When I open files with Root Explorer, I can see /sdcard/usbstorage/SDA folder, but no files in the folder. On the flash drive I have 162mb used and 7.31 GB free; but when in the SR /sdcard/usbstorage/SDA folder it reads "0k used, 392.22mb Free". Can it be a hardware on the SR or something inherently different in the SR kernel vs the OG-Gs2 kernel?

Interesting... you can read a USB flash drive on your Skyrocket? Are you running stock ROM/Kernel? I just got off the phone with Samsung Support and they shared that the i727 Skyrocket does not support OTG USB Host enablement (i.e., won't read a USB Flash Drive).

Do you have a Skyrocket? Cause your tag says you have an SGS2.
updated. Yes, was using Melvin stock, which is stock kernel, restoring stock nandroid and will check again...

still confused whether or not the skyrocket supports USB OTG. Can anyone else confirm or deny this?

MT4GS not recognized

Hey All
For some reason, my phone is no longer being recognized by my computer when I plug in the USB. I cannot mount the sd card, but the phone does charge (I don't even get the prompt to mount). I've tried several different ROMs and it's the same on all. I think it may have to do with formatting my sd card. Could I be missing the drivers? I tried installing ones I found online but haven't had any luck.
Any suggestions?
thanks
Nick
I don't know what OS you're using but go to your computer's device manager and see for missing drivers.
Or...
U don't know what ROM you are now but go to settings and look for Connect to PC
Then change the settings to mount as USB storage.
You may be missing USB drivers for your computer. I have a new USB 3.0 port on my laptop and without the proper driver, it wouldn't recognize anything
I had the same thing happen once & couldn't figure it out. The day before it was FINE. Once I reinstalled my drivers, it was up & running again. I'm STILL baffled as to what happened but I just blame anything I can't figure out on WINDOWS.
Can u mount it via recovery?
::Respect::
Make sure you have "Apps and ADB" selected under /Settings/Development/Root Access. If your computer runs Linux, Google "51-android.rules". If you're on Windows, check your drivers.

Have you tried connecting another phone or device using the same microUSB cable?
When it fails to get recognised there could only be the following possibilities:
1. Faulty phone USB port
2 faulty microUSB cable
3. You are connecting to a USB3 hub that doesn't have its drivers installed.
4. Faulty computer USB port.
To rule out 1&2 connect another phone/device using the same cable and then a different usb cable. If the second device gets recognised with the same usb cable then it should tell you the phones usb port is faulty. If the phone and the second device get recognised when you use a different cable then that should tell you the cable is faulty.
To rule out number 3 open device manager on your PC(right click on my computer and select manage, then go to device manager). Ensure that there is no "unknown device" or on the USB controllers submenu there are no entries with exclamation marks, or disabled. If there are any uninstall them then reinstall them, or enable the disabled ones. Restart the machine if needed. Then try reconnecting.
If all the above fails, try a different usb port. If it works then that confirms number 4. If the different port fails then it means your computer's usb controller hub is faulty.
Hope this helps.

Working!
Thanks All.
I appreciate the awesome tips. I thought I would try plugging it into my wife's mac and it worked fine. I then hooked it back up to my PC and magically, it worked.
I'm using CM9 on a Windows 7 PC. No idea how it got working, but it works!

Phone not showing up in computer.

Ive connected my S6 to the computer but it doesnt show up in My Computer. It shows that the MTP USB Device driver has failed to install. Any solutions? Ive tried everything available on the internet. Even kies and smartswitch and samsung drivers installed. Nothing seems to work at this point.
Does it work on another PC, or with a different cable?

Try to turn on usb debugging from developer options. See what happens. If it fails then probably your usb connnection somehow got stuck in charge only mode. In that case you will need to force mtp through commandline. Just see what happens after you try to turn on debugging first.
Additional note: this is pretty basic stuff but still worth mentioning. What happens when you try to select usb options type from inside storage settings? Does the settings option open up? Is mtp selected over there?

You can force mtp through command line only if you have root access. Are you rooted?
Since mtp is already selected in the connection type list, the problem is probably due to a bad driver structure. Disconnect your device from PC. Remove all the drivers and kies software from your pc. Reboot and connect phone. Try to see if the windows driver works out not. I am guessing you are on windows 7, right?

Ive tried that as well. Windows drivers also couldnt install MTP. Im not rooted. How did this even happen? I mean It was fine yesterday.
You can try these two solutions in their order and report back.
1) On your phone, go to Security -> Device administration->Device adminstrators. Check if there are any app with admin privileges, you have to deactivate them and see if MTP access works.
2) Connect your phone, swipe ur top menu down & tap USB PC connection settings, switch from MTP to PTP. Let driver's install. Now, go to the safely remove & eject media & eject your phone, when it says its safe to remove. Just switch your PTP back to MTP, see if the drivers install successfully then.

USB Connection Issues

I just rooted my s8+ with partcyborg's samfail and everything is working great except the usb isn't being recognized. I can see my phone on my computer and I can move files to my desktop but on my phone I get this message - "The connected device is unable to access data on this device. Reconnect the USB cable and try again." I have USB debugging enabled in settings. I'm using windows 10. ADB is up to date. I installed the samsung USB drivers. The device isn't recognized in kies or smart switch.
I'm at a total loss here. Any ideas? Could this be related to the 80% battery bug I was seeing? It's been at 80% for a while now.
Apologies if this is an obvious fix. I haven't rooted a phone since kitkat I looked around but the other threads weren't helpful.

So what do you wanna do with your USB connection? Just MTP (e.g. transfer files like you would when connecting a USB-Stick to PC) or you wanna do some ADB operations?
If you just want to transfer files, there's no need to have USB-Debugging enabled (in fact this is kind of a security risk when you connect to an unknown pc)
