Would you be kind enough to provide a link please?

It's in scary's downgrade thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255474 Scroll to the bottom where he's linked all the downloads. Download the PG06IMG.zip RUU, put on the root of your sd. Once you temp root and push the misc.img, boot into hboot and the update will start automatically

How to root Samsung Galaxy 4g

Pretty simple root method.
1. Download SuperOneClick found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
2. Once installed click rage option then Root.
The rage option is if you look on the right of SuperOneClick you will see Exploit and there you will see rageagainstthecage option there. This could be just an SuperOneClick 1.7 option. If you don't see it either upgrade or using just the root button should work.
If it is frozen at waiting for device you will need to install the samsung drivers found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
If all goes well you should be rooted. Pretty simple wasn't?
At this time ClockworkMod nor RecoveryManager work so please don't ask about them. When they get updated we will post it.

true, however that thread doesn't have the links needed to do the root in the OP, so actually this thread is better for those looking to root without the need to go searching throughout the thread.
also when i rooted my device there wasn't a "rage" option for me to choose. i just clicked on root and everything went fine.
They can delete my thread if they want, it's not that big of a deal.
INCORRECT!!!
I did not have to use rage against the cage, i just did default exploit in superoneclick and everything went perfectly!

I also don't know what this Rage option is. I did shell root for temp root and then perm root via the root button on SuperOneClick 1.6.5

Open super one click, make sure your phone is in debugging. Connect it to the computer. Select rageagainstthecage and click unroot.
It will unroot the phone.

I get an error message saying that it can't find the file specified. This is my first time rooting a phone and i have no idea what i am doing. I looked at the other thread and tried using the rage thing. Nothing is working.
I connected my phone via usb. Put it in mass storage, as opposed to Media Player or the Kies option.
Not sure where to even begin.
Dont put mass storage. Just leave it charging while having usb debugging.
Just tried that. Saying the same thing. I turn on debugging, connect the device via USB, open SuperOneClick, hit root, and it bring up the same thing.
Saying the system cannot find the file specified.
I just got the phone today and haven't done anything else to it, or added any apps to it or anything. Is there something i need to put on the phone or no?
all right thanks man ill try it out see if it works

How to root S-Off HTC Desire S

For anyone that has had difficulty rooting the HTC Desire S.
Having had my HTC Desire S made S-Off by Androf ( Root internet cafe on Edgware Rd London ) I noticed that there are a few methods to root the DS.
Most of which are quite complicated but alas I managed to find a simple method.
The Gingerbreak 1.20 APK manages to root any S-Off DS quickly and easily, simply download the app directly to the phone or download and transfer to the phone. Once that has been done simply install the APK file onto the phone, once that is done simply run the app and follow the instructions and then your phone should say something along the lines of there was a mistake and try a manual reboot to check if Superuser is installed.
For a few people such as myself you may notice that once you run the Gingerbreak APK the phone reboots itself and doesn't work, if this happens to you then simply format your SD card and remount it and try again and "voila" you should have superuser installed and root access on the DS.
Hope this helps anyone that may have encountered the same problems as me.

Excuse my extreme ignorance, but... how can I check this has worked on my phone?
Thanks
No probs.....
What would you like to check has worked?
I mean how do I know th phone is rooted? Superuser installed?
Think I need to read around this a bit more, feeling very thick, haha.

Don't fear! I believe that I'm the same boat as you, also coming from a TOPAZ and WM65, so any daft question feel happy to ask me (not that I'll be able to answer them!) I've had a sharp learning curve over the last 6weeks and my first Android device!
There are a few ways of knowing if you have route access.
First thing to check is if you have superuser access, if you can't find that out then simply go to the market and download an app called route check and that will tell you if you are rooted.
Hope this helps.
Ron
Ok, thanks guys. Couldn't find route checker but got something similar that told me I don't have SU rights - this apk installed fine for me tho.
Anyway, think I'll have a scout around and see what I'm actually trying to do and if I need to!
Thanks again

You must be S-OFF to use it though.
I was about to post a thread asking the same question. I have a SOFF phone and wanted to know how to root it without getting into trouble.
Edit: successfully rooted my phone.

Dont people use the search anymore???
how to root s-on device? or how to s-off my DS??
My understanding is that rooting an S-on phone, if possible, only achieves a temp root that is lost on reboot. S-Off at present is only possible with xtc clip (hardware device) ( =lots of money). Software method is likely coming soon (ish) via alpharev team.
Suggest googling xtc and/or alpharev.

[Q] Trying to root my HTC EVO 4G

I am trying to root my EVO. I once had it rooted and unrooted it...i think...with unrEVOked. I wanted to root the phone and install a custom rom again but I cant seem to get it to root.
I have tried unrEVOked(and followed all the easy steps to root on a forum....more then once), and once I got the initial screen were it sais to plug the phone in and make sure it has USBdebugging on, I do just that and nothing happens. so....
I tried to use Simple Root .1. Once again, found a forum on how to root with this program and followed the steps...more then once...and still no luck. With Simple Root I watched a video and in the video the prompt screen said that it was pushing a file to the phone and then it is suppose to go to the HBOOT screen....which does not happen on my phone, it skips that step and tells me to go to step 2, but I haven't completed step 1 yet....
I really dont know if me rooting the phone befor is causing this, but if anybody has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank
dizl.evo
If you're on the OTA gingerbread update then you won't be able to root.
I have not updated yet. It asked me to but i was about to root so didn't feel the need to update the HTC software.....
So you're not on 2.3? I don't have an evo, but the rroot process was pretty easy for me using unrevoked. USB debugging on, set to charge only. (Fastboot off, if that's an option in settings>power.)
when i first got the phone i rooted it with unrevoked and yea, it was easy....
But yes i actually am on 2.3.3.... Dont know if that is gingerbread or not...
here is my software info...
Android Version -2.3.3
Baseband Version -2.15.00.05.02
Kernel -2.6.35.10-g4e39384 [email protected] #1
Build number -4.22.651.2 CL60865 release-keys
Software number -4.22.651.2
Browser version -WebKit/533.1
PRI version -2.15_003
PRL Version -60680
Today, I randomly checked to see if there was a HTC update, and there was and it said that 2.3 (Gingerbread) 4.24.651.1 was available.....I dont know if any of that helps....

HBOOT = s-off
as far as recovery, it shows a phone with a red triangle with an exclamation point.....
Good news! You are still rooted! (technicaly, S-off is not root, but just as good) Jump over to the EVO 4G forums and start reading! And asking questions here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=652
You can flash a recovery that will allow you to, in turn, flash whatever ROM you would like...
I suggest Amon-Ra recovery.
Good luck!
I'm kind of surprised that you were having problems with unrevoked. That is probably because you somehow upgraded to 2.3.3. Unrevoked used the initial exploit of rageagainstthecage, and this was blocked in 2.3.3. However, you obviously used unrevoked some time BEFORE you received 2.3.3. Either way, just reflash a recovery pc36img.zip version of Amon Ra found here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
then download a ROM, I suggest MikG or Synergy to the root of your SD card and flash via recovery.
THANKS lil_bono. i really appreciate your help...
Ok so i went to the HBOOT screen and clicked recovery and it failed....so is a flashrecovery different or am i going to still run into the same problem of it giving me that red triangle??
Youre welcome. Yes. Flashed recovery can be of different types and is what you need. It will have locally packaged commands instead of the stock adb connection only. Head over to the EVO forums and start searching and reading.

i hope to god this is the last question i ask, but is there a simple root for either linux/windows thatll root the phone? ive tried doing the command thing and i get to the adb shell try to do the '/data/local/psneuter/' then it fails (this was done using a windows computer with adb on it)
thanks guys, and sorry about the endless questions, but i greatly appreciate it, im new to HTC root im so used to moto being easily rooted
but anyway, thanks

If you see S-Off on the bootloader screen, then you are S-Off, which is the ONLY thing that the Revolutionary method accomplishes. However, if you read the information on the site (the FAQ), it provides the file you need to flash to get root. Once you flash that file, you will have everything you need to start making backups, customizing, and flashing other software. The Revolutionary method is by far one of the easiest and best methods of obtaining S-Off for a device like the Tbolt.

[Q] how to root my hox, pls?

Hello
I'm new here
I have a device belongs to AT & T 1.85 and I can not do a ROOT
I was watching all the explanations and still process fails
Please, if anybody can help me
Thank you!
Really all you have to do is unlock bootloader with HTC dev site then I installed cwm with a pc then flashed a custom pre rooted Rom then flashed the latest twrp recovery u don't have to root the phone first like some other devices unless u wanna stay on stock but have root.
If you look around on the forum and use google you'll find what you need.
DO NOT FLASH CWM. just twrp. Please don't give advice that could brick someone's phone if you don't know what you're talking about

CWM is not officially supported, it is known to cause problems like wiping phones. TWRP is supported!
There has been at least 2 cases of bricked phones using cwm.

He has an AT&T One X. He can't just go and unlock the bootloader with HTC Dev. He has to change his CID before being able to do that.
And he shouldn't use CWM either.

The answer is quite simple. That root method is for 1.73 firmware.
You need this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296

What's going wrong is that you are following directions you found with Google instead of reading and researching in the appropriate forums. It's not working because you are on 1.85 and you are using a method for 1.73 and 1.82.
This is the method you need:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296
You will probably find this a bit intimidating. Before you do any of it, read carefully, research anything you don't understand, and don't start until you have a clear idea of what's going on.
This is, again, why I hate one-click tools and toolkits. They make it far too easy for people who don't know what they're doing to get in over their heads.
The tools and directions you need for this phone are all listed in this compilation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Stick to that and stay and you'll stay out of trouble.
