Newegg TF101 deal... what is the serial number? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, my brother was looking for a tablet, and guess what I ended up suggesting he get?
Well in any case, he saw a deal on newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...m1043X499650Xfaa16997b4c0d9510c73e1ec5aba9518) but I am unable to tell what the serial number will be. It says the model is TF101-B1, but I don't know if that is the batch number or if that is actually the code for the 32gb one..
If anyone knows, please post here asap so I get reply to my brother! Thanks!

The B1 indicates a 32GB model. If your concern is rooting the device, with the new razorclaw app, the serial number doesn't matter, it works for B70+.

Ah, well, there was that, and also, I didn't want to recommend a model more likely to have hardware issues to my brother.. thanks!

At this point, you'll almost-certainly be fine. It's been so long since the Transformer first was released that I'd be extremely surprised if you got anything earlier than a B60. (B40s up are fine)

Yeah, just didn't wanna recommend something to my brother if it had hardware issues, mine is a b5 with slight speaker issues so I don't want him complaining to me.. Especially since I'm telling him to buy a transformer prime and give it to me instead.

[Q] Buying a transformer to take back to the uk

So after doing the exchange rate the transformer in the uk comes out at 620usd so as im in the usa until the end of may im going to get one here before i leave the usa
Few quick question that im hoping people can answer..
1, does the charger have the usual 110 to 240v sticker on there?
2, if i cant key the keyboard addon over here im guessing the uk version of the keyboard would be the same?
3, can anyone think of any other compatability issues?
Cheers

1. I will answer this when i get home if nobody else has at that point
2. I cant imagine that they would be different, it would make no sense for them to retool the machines to make different tabs for different markets. If you have the language set correctly i dont see why it wouldnt work just fine. Come to think of it, im not even sure they differentiate(sp?) between us and uk english
3. nope, especially if you root when the method becomes available.

There are a few differences between UK and US keyboards, most notably the inclusion of the £ symbol on UK keyboards. I would imagine that these differences would be taken into consideration on the Eee Pads keyboard.
Regards,
Dave
only real problem i see for you OP, is that they've already sold out in the US :/a
Ive got until the end of may so a bit of time to find one
If i dont find one then so be it!
Good point about the keyboard but ill live with that.

I checked with Asus Benelux earlier and dock and connection is generic so I can use a US-transformer in a dutch dock. I guess there's no reason why you couldn't with a uk-dock...

Are all models rootable?

I live in Canada, picking up a Transformer and would like to root it. I'm scared I might pick on up and find out it's not rootable.
No. Depends on your model. Check the serial sticker on the tf near the bottom. From what I gather those starting with B70 and B80 can't be rooted. Do a search and find out why.
not quite right some b70 can be rooted but its about 50/50 mines a b70kas0224 and from what i have heard they switched the sku at about b70kas240
Is there a way to find out? Yeah researching on the internet isn't going to help.
As the other user stated SOME B70 models can be rooted but anything B80 or later cannot be rooted at this time.
The number doesnt refer to a version number but purely the date of manufacture (B70 = July, B80 = August) and half way through July the key was changed which made the existing root method redundant.
I dont think any of the developers who made the original root method have a newer model so they cannot do the same thing for it. If a developer comes along and purchases a newer model then a root method may be created but right now my first statement holds true.
Your only way to ensure you could get hold of an older model which can definitely be rooted (B60) would be to buy one from a store and ask to see the unit before purchasing it. You could then look at the bottom where the serial number is and check if it starts with B60. If it starts with B70 then its 50/50 whether its the rootable model or not and you couldnt make sure without the check method (via linux) in the development forum.

The number is just the serial number. If you're picking it up in person you can ask to look at the box. The serial number is on the box also since the store might not let you open the box to look at the tab itself. To be safe anything starting with B60 or older is rootable. Like already mentioned some B70 are rootable but it's 50/50.
The serial number shows B60/B70 etc? I thought it didn't :S

I live in Mississauga and yeah I know a Canada Computers, the problem is that I want to purchase it at Wal Mart because I can get 20% off plus it's $5 cheaper haha
Nice with the discounts!
I guess you have to leverage if 20% and $5 cheaper worth the rooting procedure at this given time (if B70s & B80s can be rooted at a later time)
I managed to secure a good deal:
$389.99 - EEE Pad Transformer 16GB TF101
$89.99 - Keyboard Dock
$5.99 - invisibleSHIELD screen protector
$0.00 - ASUS OEM Sleeve (combo pack with PAD transformer purchase)
$549 AFTER TAXES...
+++ I got a free Class 10, 32GB microSDHC card - birthday gift card used at BestBuy!!!
So, $549 for a 48GB EEE Pad!!!! (Still rocks compared to iPad 2 that I was considering ....)
How long do you expect a root for B80s? and same here,I was considering an iPad 2 aswell. Only think I like about the iPad 2 is it has more apps/better partnership with developers and it's responsive UI.
btw at CC,it's $399 for the 16,how'd you get it for $389?

There isn't an eta it could be a few days or it may never happen. Don't buy a new unit unless you will be happy whether its rootable or not as you may end up disapointed. If you need it to be rooted then make sure to get one from a shop and check the serial number first.

Where is the serial number located so I can spot it easily?

Behind the box, look under the serial, it should start with B50XX,B60XX or so...
From what I learned, only those models with those serial numbers are rootable...and Canada Computers seem to be carrying them.
^^^B40 also but I doubt there's any still around. Early B70 too but I wouldn't take a chance, its 50/50
total n00b question... So I have B70KAS399777... So I can't even use NVFlash to root and install a new ROM?

b90 TF

Hi Guys
I'm new to the TF forum, but I've had a good year of experience with android after getting my Captivate and doing all sorts of stuff in it.
I just got a B90 transformer, but it appears that anything over B70 can't root or do any modifications to it. That's not really an issue for me if the stock experience is good enough.
I'm guessing a B90 is quite new so I'm wondering if there are any other users with B90s have any issues with it? How is the experience like?
If anyone is wondering why did I get the B90 when I know I can't do anything with it. That's because it was on sale for 449 tablet + dock. I think that's a good price and I needed a tablet and knowing that Asus wouldn't cut the price of the TF with the release of the TF2. However, if the price does drop, I'll just bug my credit card company for price protection guarantee =)
I read that the number there is the month so yours was built in Sept. The problem rooting newer than B70 is they updated part of the bootloader back then apparently and the guys here haven't figured out how to crack it yet.

you are correct, in BxO the x stands for the month of manufacture, however there is a little piece of code on the silicon that is the first piece of code to run that has changed somewhere in august also there are a set of e-fuses which have had a different key burned into them, this key change is what stumped the root to begin with, and the first piece of code that changed is what has tripped up nvflash once the key was revealed to us

Looking at this, they mentioned B70 and B80, but nothing about B90. I wonder if there's any changes between those units in that matter.
I read somewhere that the awesome devs had created a rooting method for b70+, and they were waiting to release it. I have a feeling if you hang tight, you'll get root eventually.
Personally, I required root to run cifs and tun modules in order to stream movies from my fileserver and the ability to VPN into my workplace. YMMV.
Good luck, and welcome to the TF family - it's an awesome device!
Would be interesting, if the B90 transformer has the same SBK like the newer B70's and the B80's.
I mean if it has "Sbk2" or if it has the new "Sbk3" which is also used at the transformer 3G and I think at the asus slider.
Maybe you can try the Sbk-detect from here :

That's mainly what I'm after. I use those on my Nook Color that's on CM7. The real question is why Android ships without those features anyway.

[Q] Root for Asus Fonepad

Hey Guys
I have bought the asus Fonepad which so far is a great device.
But i can´t find any information onn the internet on how to root it.
Could you use a general root for the padfone or do i have to wait for
a special root.
Thank you
I got my Fonepad this morning and its nice, but it needs some developer love to be my daily driver for more than a couple of weeks.
You cant count me in for at least $50 towards the cost of a device if a developer wanted to take it on.

I've on this device for cluple of days and it's really a kind of device with great potentials. The screen is nice with good density and the connectivity are all in. The telephony features is unique for this kind of device and the best part is it's running on Intel, I know developers can do wonders on this device and not to forget the price is very affordable. The kernel source code are available at asus website.
So dev's let's start the exciting work and really I need to root my device ASAP.
Thanks for the reading.

Tested it on the fonepad. Doesn't work. The shell doesn't show up after booting. Also after "Restore my data" the script doesn't recognize that the restore is done. I have to power off the device manually.
Up to now I haven't found a solution on the net to get root access. I want to use the fonepad with USB OTG to controll a DSLR. If this isn't possible I have to sell it again
I've ordered it and I'm waiting for the device, I hope that will be opened a dedicated forum!
Coming from P1000 that was kept alive still today with 4.2.2 by amazing developers. I hope this will too.
I got one too
I have had mine for a week now and am finding the performance to be a bit sluggish, but not too bad. The total package is quite nice. However, we need to be able to root it to get the most out of it. I will contribute as well.
How much?
Hi guys, just curious how much you bought the Fonepad for and if anyone using it on T-Mo? If so, what speed are you getting with the HSDPA?
Thanks!
Edit #1: I'm blind, PERLMANE is on T-Mo. What data speeds are you getting?
Edit #2: Oh and can you side loan Flash Player so viewing of websites with Flash content? I read somewhere saying since it's X86 that Flash Player won't work, though I couldn't understand why not.

I got the same error message when I tried to install Firefox. I looked at the Firefox release notes and it says Firefox does not support Android running on an Intel chip. I had not realised this was going to be a big limitation.
I hope asus fonepad get some love from dev soon. Lot of potential in these phablet. Intel has some software compatibility but seems makes up in battery life.

I am getting good speeds on T-Mobile. While it says "H", it is clearly delivering H+ speeds consistently over 5m download and close to 3m upload. This is much faster (almost double) that of the H+ speeds I was getting from AT&T.
As for Flash, I could install it, but that effort was not worthwhile since it does not seem to work with any browser.
Asus Fonepad USA Fedex asking FCC Form
I ordered from Taiwan for delivery to USA.

Not sure how I can proceed...

It fails to install SuperUser Binaries. Perhaps the Intel Atom chipset has something to do with this failure to exploit for root.
