[Q] Buying a transformer to take back to the uk - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So after doing the exchange rate the transformer in the uk comes out at 620usd so as im in the usa until the end of may im going to get one here before i leave the usa
Few quick question that im hoping people can answer..
1, does the charger have the usual 110 to 240v sticker on there?
2, if i cant key the keyboard addon over here im guessing the uk version of the keyboard would be the same?
3, can anyone think of any other compatability issues?
Cheers
Mike

1. I will answer this when i get home if nobody else has at that point
2. I cant imagine that they would be different, it would make no sense for them to retool the machines to make different tabs for different markets. If you have the language set correctly i dont see why it wouldnt work just fine. Come to think of it, im not even sure they differentiate(sp?) between us and uk english
3. nope, especially if you root when the method becomes available.

There are a few differences between UK and US keyboards, most notably the inclusion of the £ symbol on UK keyboards. I would imagine that these differences would be taken into consideration on the Eee Pads keyboard.
Regards,
Dave

only real problem i see for you OP, is that they've already sold out in the US :/a

Ive got until the end of may so a bit of time to find one
If i dont find one then so be it!
Good point about the keyboard but ill live with that.

Sticker says 100~240v

Thanks thats very helpful

I checked with Asus Benelux earlier and dock and connection is generic so I can use a US-transformer in a dutch dock. I guess there's no reason why you couldn't with a uk-dock...

just got a new X05HT. A few observations

This was just released in Japan today. Anyway, I just upgraded to it and just want to say it (so far) seems like a nice upgrade from my old X01HT. (which I will miss, though).
The box is the usual Softbank white square (boring) box. Accessories include a charger, mini-usb headphone jack converter, spare stylus and a leather (non-magnetic!) case. No headphones are included; nor a micro SD card
When it is first booted there is about data: 271 MG free (322); Programs: 130 MG free (200)
Included software:
the usual, + mp3 trimmer, cleavevue presentation, jetcet print 5, navitime, quckmark, rss hub -
Nice points:
-The camera takes nice photos (seem to be nice and clear with no blur indoors; can't wait to try it outdoors)
-There are front and rear cameras
-The default rom seems nice (in Japanese of course). There seems to be no way to change it to English though.
-Touch Flo 3D does not seem to suffer from any lag (yet) and the overall speed seems good.
-Included mail program (Softbank mail) is a huge upgrade from the old Softbank mail which was included with the X01HT! It does not seem to suffer from lag or other issues.
Bad Points:
None, yet! ;-) If I find any you can be sure I will update this.
Anyway, I will play around with it for a few days and then attempt to flash to an English rom....

How about the SIM lock?
/mek
Do you mean the X05HT?
I have not had time to check whether it is sim locked or not (I suspect it is).
I did hard spl flash it though -- no problem. Now at least we can upgrade the rom.
Ah, speaking of which, when upgrading I would love to have the new Japanese IE that is used in the original Japanese rom - I suspect that it won’t be too long before somebody like Askul comes up with a cab; it is much better than current solutions, and allows for word prediction when using English, for example.
Likewise, if the Softbank mail settings could be exported, that would be great. Softbank mail in this rom uses a modified version of Arcsoft's MMS ver. 5. (Settings seem to be hidden/unavailable).
Things I have noticed with the Softbank rom after 24 hours:
-slows down periodically (even after manila tweaks)
-Music skips a lot
So, it does look as though I will be upgrading as soon as I can to a better rom.... only wish there was a better mms solution....
damn... yeah, I did mean the x05ht..

EDIT: Ahh... fixed it! I won't blame that mistake on the beers I drank last night to celebrate the arrival of my new phone, then!
How much was the upgrade ?
Thinking about buying it or just purchasing a Touch HD from internet (THe new omnia is rally good but insanely expensive...)

I had so much payments left from my X01T that I opted for getting a new SIM and paying for the phone. It was 49.140 yens. So now I ended up with my fifth SIM from SoftBank, they told me that is the max number one can have. So I hope they do not come up with a better phone soon now

That was the first thing I checked when I got home; yes it is SIM locked. But then I did not expect anything else from SoftBank so I was not actually disappointed.
I was just wondering if the unlocks work with SoftBank also?

Ehh go ahead and blame the beers
Can you dump the current rom before you start flashing? I don't think I've seen it any where else.
I am actually dumping it as we speak.
Also, see the following thread, regarding Japanese IME. I think that flinx1 is going to try and extract the IME from the Softbank rom and make a .cab.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445550&page=2&highlight=x05ht
Anyway, I will go ahead and upload the raw files as soon as I have finished the dump.
Cheers!
Yea I just saw that you dumped it in that thread. Thanks a lot!
Here is the full rom, all four raw parts. Please note I seemed to have problems with par3. It gave some error which I don't remember, although it did seem to dump the file OK. Please let me know if there are problems with par3 and I will try and redo it.
(pending) somebody told me to remove par3 because it may contain sensitive user information. I will do so and re-post. In the meantime if you did download it, then please ignore any of my personal stuff. ;-)
I'm going to be upgrading next week. Do you know if it ran any dodgy stuff on first run? (Like the X01HT white model did?)
How about the back of the case, is it the bumpy one as shown on Softbank's site, or smooth?
Hey mate, it is sort of rubbery (like the original touch pro case, I think).
There are pictures here: (it seems exactly the same as the softbank one).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455650
And yeah it did run a lot of s**t on first start-up. It takes about five minutes to complete. After that, your phone is locked for life! NOT. Go here and PM for instructions on how to unlock.

so... any news?? this phone is super cool... but i think it would be even more super cool if it was english, so i could have slightly more than a superficial understanding of what was actually going on...
is it possible to make this phone english??

Want it in English? No problem. Follow the instructions here:

then flash with your favorite rom. It should take you all of 15 minutes to do.

If for any reason the phone has to be send back for repairs or some such is there a way to simlock it again? I guess SoftBank would not be very happy receiving unlocked phone (you see I am only worrying about their feelings )
Also won't flashing a new rom lose all the SB settings? I am mostly worrying about the access numbers for internet use as the last time I used my foreign bought Nokia I ended up with 120.000 yen bill for a month's usage...

You've been quiet for awhile. Have you flashed your baby yet. Is there a softbank connection setup cab available yet.

There are ways to get the softbank connection going for the x01ht. See this. I guess it might work (havent tried it myself)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441400
(edit: seems that it might not work) but see here (post 35) for more on the x04ht and a possible solution to getting softbank settings working: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ighlight=x04ht
It is more that I need input that allows for word prediction (as in the default rom) - in both Japanese/English). With the asukal solution you lose this feature.... there seem to be a few people working on various solutions but nothing has eventuated yet.
Oh, and I did flash it once -- just for fun. It did not seem to make the device any snappier compared to the original anyway. I guess it might be better to wait for somebody to find a solution to the "performance issue":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=449391
Best!
I am completly new to this so please excuse my ignorance... I am from japan and i had the X02HT... and i absolutly fell in love with it.... now my contract is up and i want to upgrade to the X05HT with softbank.... after reading some of the post i came to the conclusion that it does not have english region settings... my question is once i flash the rom will i be able to have the menus in english... and also will the SMS and S!Mail still work...? I really want this phone but if this is not possible then i will have to resort to the X03HT.. please help!
patiently waiting a response!

[Q] Transformer Feedback

Quick question
this has probably been asked a billion times.
Can anybody with a transformer with the keyboard dock give me some feedback with how software interacts, any bugs or glitches?
Would you consider it "stable" for word processing, note taking etc if you were at school?
Any known issues?
I'm planning to get one instead of a laptop for school because of its battery life, low power, and the amount of practical things I could use it for both at home and at school.
Thanks!
Maybe you should use the search function, then you would realise no one has a dock yet.

technically, technically, the Hong Kong release yesterday of the transformer does have the dock option. Whether they peruse this forum though is another matter.

Different between EU / USA?

Hey,
i'm pretty new to all this android. But yes after i seen the xoom, i want to have it. So i decided to buy me one, but it was not availible in my country and i bought an USA verizon version. I was testing it a bit and i was sure i want the 3g eu version and sell it and wait for the version which i want have.
Yesterday i got my xoom and i was pretty shocked!! It was pretty laggy and got the android lags, the first xoom doesnt have this lags but i was also stock.
I think there is a different between this to models or i dont know why my xoom is so laggy now! My first thought was to root it and overclock it, i will try that later. Maybee do also a reset.
How can i check this if that laggy?

I think you are saying you bought a US 3G Xoom out of sheer gadget greed, then sold it to buy a Euro 3G. You feel the Euro model is more laggy than the US model?
Do you mean in terms of overall performance or data connection? Was the US version you had running 3.1, and now the Euro model is running 3.0? That would certainly account for a certain amount of extra lag.

Yes the first is right!!
No both were running on 3.0.1. And i mean the performance, scroll between homescreen pages, starup apps and so on!

That is very strange....I don;t know of any reason for one to be more laggy than the other.
I would suggest doing a factory reset, then using one of the threads here to root it and update to 3.1. That should solve most lag issues you may have.
Yes i think so to, i tried to remove a few widget an see what happen.
I'll root it, later i forgot my usb cabel! For 3.1 is no EU support, after i update my 3g wont work anymore or i m wrong?

It is possible to upgrade a Euro 3G to 3.1 and keep your 3G...it is just a bit tricky.

I m pretty new to this all android stuff, like i said! Is there something like wikipedia for all the words like flash, root, unlock so on?
Some more, i can remember that i have with my first xoom wifi problems at my workingplace but with the new one not. The place is the same as bevore, no changes. Its pretty odd, cause i think aluminium shields more than plastic.

[Q] Q- Getting TF ready, Internation Shipping, Sim card use on TF101

Hi Folks
My brother resides in OMAN and I am planing to ship Asus TF101 to him from USA.
TF101 (16 GB, Wifi) was bought here in US in June 2011.
Want to know if he can use it there without any issue and what do I need to do to prepare the Tablet so that he can use it right off the box.
Also what to know if and how he can use a SIM card with TF101.
I have the 16GB model.
Please..any advice, suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Any suggestions on the BEST method to ship..(Economical and reliable)
I am considering DHL.COM...Costing me $140 USD...is it worth?..any suggestions.
Thank you all for your support
Make sure the charger has the right plug that your brother uses there.
You only have WIFI version, there is no way he can use 3G on it. The new 3G version is released soon...
People that have tried this (shipping US unit out of US) have reported issues getting the Market to work. You should probably research this since the tablet is not very useful without the Market.

Google Folio Keyboard

Hi everyone,
On the french google store, the folio keyboard is not available any more.
Is it definitive ? The "button" saying unavailable is grey. Do you see it available in your country ?
I tried to ask the google support and they told me "well it's recent so check everyday, it should come back"... not very helpful.
Do you know if I can find it somewhere else ?
Anyone of you want to get rid of his ?
Thanks!
Available in Australia
available in the UK (I'm a little concerned by the OP username, though! EDIT: an honest mistake that's been sorted by the OP and responded to below. Bravo!)

Thanks for the info.
About the username, as I told to kboya in pm, I'm French and at the moment of creating a nickname (because my usual klown was already used) I didn't think enough. I sent a nickname change request. Sorry if it had offended someone.
In Canada last time I checked the folio keyboard wasn't available. I thought that might mean it has been discontinued but don't know?

this is the folio page. not sure why you would take it over the other. i love the keyboard as it is, and you can change the angle to suit you, which i do not believe you can do with the folio. https://store.google.com/product/pixel_c_folio_keyboard

Oh yeah I love the normal keyboard no regrets buying it. As you said, the magnet is awesome how you can angle the screen anywhere you want, works everywhere
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
While it's nice that you can have any angle you want on the non-folio version, I just find it to be inconvenient to use as an actual case. The way that you have to attach and detach it just isn't very conducive to using it that way. If you never really want to use it to cover the screen, I guess it's fine though.
I wouldn't mind picking up the folio version either but alas, it's not in stock on the US site either.
And just when I made up my mind about getting the folio keyboard it goes out of stock in the US :c
Is the keyboard still available in other countries for you guys? (I think Canada might still have it, possibly?)
Still out of stock...bummer
