Well he was referring to the SGSII, hot the SGS 4G. S2 is the next generation, and I believe it would dog the MyTouch.

Sorry for the rant I'm about to start...But is this a serious question?!? The new "myTouch" is not a "real" myTouch, LG & myTouch don't even belong in the same sentence. LG is horrible with phone support, just look at G2X, they were on the fence about even updating the thing, I doubt these new POS devices will get updated either. These new phones aren't even worthy as MT4G successors, they barely updated the hardware front, you'll be better off with the MT4G instead of "myTouch by LG". IMO you need to get the SGSII, but not that fake one Tmobile is selling, it's only a SGSII if it's running Exynos under the hood, which Tmobile had taken out for the S3 (SnapDragon). Sorry for getting off topic & ranting, but you need to get the SGSII for sure; take this from someone who has owned many android phones.

Ok so SGSII not on T-Mobile though?

There was a side by side comparison done of the Tmobile SGSII and the international version with exynos. The test was done by androidcentral, and they could not see a difference in performance between the 2 phones. Don't let bias comments sway your decision. Especially from someone using a Sensation...

Quick question, If I were to buy the International Galaxy S 2 (the original), would I be able to use it on Tmobile? What kind of service would I get (HSPA, HSPA+)?

I don't think any of the other SGSII variations support T-Mo 3G/4G frequencies so you'll still be stuck on 2G speeds.
The Hercules is a nice phone but with the Vibrant owners getting the shaft with GB and a ****ty GPS I don't think I could buy another Samsung phone again. I'm actually giving my Vibrant to my brother and getting a Sensation for myself.

galaxy s II and 3?

So as the galaxy s II will soon be launched in the U.S. i was wondering how many of you people were getting it. I ask this because i dont know if i should wait til next year, which is when samsung has been known to release a dual core 2ghz phone... (is this even trustworthy?)
so i was wondering how many of you guys were getting the galaxy s II or just waiting for next year perhaps, for the dual core phone.
i plan on getting it once its released in the U.S. and when the first samsung phone with a 2ghz dual core processor is released, ill be getting that too. im a phone whore.
I knew once I would get my Captivate, a better phone would come out... Low and behold the Galaxy S II. -__-
The best price I've found for the SGS II is $743 shipped from Handtec. I'm very tempted.

Yes. And you're doomed to delayed updates, no free tethering, no unknown sources apps, less dev support, removed features, etc. etc.
Look at the Captivate compared to the i9000. It's the same thing. And there's no guarantee that the i9100 ROMs will be portable to whatever bastardized thing ends up on AT&T. For a long time the Vibrant could run nothing but Vibrant ROMs. The Fascinate is totally boned.
So if you're interested in any of that, then yes.
Otherwise the i9100 will work on AT&T.
I'm gonna wait out my contract and buy an international S3 model when it comes out. I'm tired of being f*cked by AT&T (week long service black-outs with "no known issues", billing errors, hidden fees, dropped calls, etc.) and would rather jump on an MVNO or something

Another option, if in fact Samsung plans to do that.
I plan on waiting until at least end of the year before I buy a new phone. The captivate really has some of the best hardware around right now even though its not the top anymore.
I kind of want the kyocera echo. But I definitely want some with stock gingerbread. Might just wait and see what device gathers a bunch of support.
can you just buy a international version of galaxy S II and then use it on at&t?
would you have to unlock to do that?
ANd do you guys think the galaxy s III will come out about 2012 may?
and then you're galaxy s3 will be obsolete when the 3ghz processor comes out, just buy now because you'll be waiting for ever for the next best thing.
Wow ~$700 from overseas? That's actually a great deal. Just wish I had that money to toss around. Instead, I'm using $1000 as a down payment on a new car.
Oh well..
I got my Captivate at the end of July so my contract will be up summer 2012 so at the current rate of releases the S3 will be out or some other phone that is so much better at that time will be out.
I'm poor and cheap so I have to buy on contract

Well using the poor and cheap is bad, I would say it is smarter because why pay $ 500+ for a phone off Contract if the contract price is $ 200? I have paid on contract $ 500+ for a cell phone and never again *Blackberry Bold 9000 when it first came out*, and the phone started having physical problems 5 days before the captivate came out and ATT let me upgrade a week early with out having to pay an early upgrade fee. I have not had any issues at all with my captivate and it runs fine.

by 2013 amd will make a 3watt processor on 28nm architecture, likey multi core. i think that could support 3ghz+ on low voltages, maybe more. they plan to use it in an andriod tablet.

I haven't seen the specs but if it's compatible with ATT's bands then that would be the way to go. You would definitely not have to unlock as it wouldn't be locked to begin with
International phones are not locked to any carier. They have more consumer friendly laws in Europe than we do here in gitmo nation. If I am wrong please tell me.

What are you talking about? The Galaxy S was on nearly all carriers. No reason that Galaxy S II will not be not to mention the rumored name will be AT&T Attain.
IT will be released by at&t as the Samsung Attain:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/16/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-us-carrier-names-revealed-atandt-attain-veri/
Go figure :O
But alas, no 4.5' screen
SGS2 will come to ATT, and most likely about same time.
It already passed FCC with ATT-specific frequencies.
So yeah. VZW news came first, that's all. Actually, second, Sprint SGS2 news came first.
Yeah the attain was announced like wayyyy last month.... ATT is first to the scene... Verizon and sprint is kinda on the coat tails...
Who cares about sgs2, I'm ok with the infuse and I will be eligible for upgrade on June 13 5 days from now and I will use that for the iPhone 5 to sell it for may be $1,500 or more in London. I hope.

Yes transformer already pointed this out. It will be Q3 for all carriers probably september
I just bought Infuse 4g and love it (after iPhone 4 *sigh*). The only thing is disappointing is single core processor because new phones with dual cpu and decent gpu just started to come out. Samsung Galaxy S II is superior in this sense. The question is will it come out this summer on at&t because, I know from experience, it took a half a year to HTC phones to get to USA.
Should I return Samsung Infuse and wait for Samsung Galaxy S II?
how is it possible that the US will get that phone so ****ing late?! I live in austria and have it since early may. And the plans here are just awesome. 200€ for the phone; 20€ monthly for 1000 min. 1000 texts and 5gb unlimited internet..

What phone would you go with?

Hey everyone,
I was just curious, if you had the chance to go with whatever carrier and get any android phone...which one would you go with?? What is the best choice?

Exactly this^
If I was grandfathered in for unlimited Data at Verizon, and the SGSII had an LTE radio on Verizon, It would be the greatest possible scenario.
But because I am not on unlimited Verizon, I'll have to say SGSII on Sprint.
I'm currently on SGSII Unlocked with AT&T, and I'm not too impressed with them. The phone itself is fantastic though.
I would not go with AT&T simply because of the horror stories I have heard from some of their customers. That may seem somewhat ignorant, but having worked with both T-Mobile and Verizon, I don't believe I could go with any other carrier. T-Mobile's cutomer service is ridiculously good, and Verizon's coverage is amazing.
That being said, phones play a certain role in this decision making process as well. While I would not necessarily choose a different carrier simply because they had the phone I wanted, it would play a heavy role in my decision making process.
All of that considered, the setup I have now, an HTC Thunderbolt with Verizon, couldnt be better.
Galaxy SII, any network...
galaxy s2 hercules! a variant of the s2. its not even out yet, I dont have any preference for carrier though. we don't have AT&T Verizon and other big providers here

I really hope the announcement next Monday is for SGSII on Verizon. I'd hate to be stuck with the bionic...
The best option now is the Samsung GALAXY S II from a hardware point of view or the HTC Sensation if you like the HTC Sense interface.

Samsung makes me sad :(

Samsung were amazing with the Galaxy S line, no complaints there. The Infuse came along and it was pretty much the Galaxy's weirdly put together and slightly upgraded step brother. And as we all know, a hold over for the S2. Then the S2 comes out and everyone's excited. Hell yeah, party! Greatest phone ever made, yeah cool, whatever.
And we all love our phones. And then the Skyrocket. The freakin Skyrocket... This phone comes out a month after the S2. I mean, I love Samsung, but this phone release trend is outrageous. Yes people like HTC release a ton per year, but over many carriers. Samsung has three phones for the same carrier in six months. This just irks me. Please discuss.

Yep - I think you're right. I heard at LEAST 2 more Samsungs by the EOY for Android/ATT alone. Plus a few more for TMobile, Sprint and Ver.
Guys its not like iPhones where the new phone takes an absolute dump on your phone. Samsung puts their best foot forward on most of their phones. Keyword MOST. the new phones are just incorperating the new technology such as LTE for att. Just enjoy the phone you have knowing that its not out of date yet since the new iphone only has 1/2 a gig of ram
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I meant to say the new iphone takes a dunp on your old iphone. I accidently left it open. I didn't mean your samsung phone. If we look at the galaxy s vs the 4 the sgs had a power vr sgx 540 where as the 4 only had a 535. Not trying to turn this into a iphone vs android. Just using the new iphone old iphone model.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
The moment you walk out with your phone its already obsolete because there is a new one coming. I actually perfer this "abundance" of phone. it gives us options.
I just don't like the fact that reps have no idea of up coming phones but the net does. I specifically asked about gs2 when I bought my infuse and att claimed to have no idea, 1.5 months later and its released.

sorry to say this, but this thread is stupid.
that is like getting mad at mercedes, "i just bought this E class for 50,000$, now they come out with the new CLS!". haha
when you made your Android purchase, you have to accept that one fact that the turnover of devices are very very high... If you don't like this then you'd be better off with the iPhone.
Otherwise, think about how your phone, even though it might be like 4-5 devices behind the newest device, is still so much better than the newest iPhone in the market.
People really don't understand the point of this thread.... I just look at other companies that don't release 4 phones for one carrier in a 6 month span. I love Samsung just not this crap.

While I do agree with you to an extent, I think you miss an important factor that is causing this.
The Galaxy S line was 3G HSPA. Then AT&T launched their HSPA+ network, and the Infuse is "4G" with HSPA+ and halfway between the SGS and the SGS 2 lines. So the Infuse was thrown out there so Samsung had a high end HSPA+ phone. Then the SGS 2 came out as the full upgrade from the SGS line. It also had HSPA+ as that's still the dominant "4G" network for AT&T right now. Shortly after they release the SGS2 LTE with 4G LTE so they again have a high end phone on the best network AT&T has to offer.
So while it seems like they have released 4 phones in a year and a half, 3 of them upgraded their network support. They probably could have waited on the SGS 2 and just released an SGS2 LTE, but I suspect the SGS2 will drop in price faster than the LTE version will as the LTE network grows, giving them maybe a $100 and a $200 model, or even $150/200.
I don't think you'll see them release as many now that we don't have any network upgrades for another couple of years when they upgrade to LTE Advanced (and I suspect that will roll into LTE phones sooner rather than later).
But yeah, I know what you mean. I would have been pretty annoyed if I had bought an SGS2 and then the SGS2 LTE came out, but the LTE came out soon enough after the SGS2 that you could have returned the SGS2 for the SGS2 LTE if you wanted. They were JUST over 30 days apart, but the Skyrocket was announced before 30 days was up, so you could have returned immediately and used a temporary phone for a couple of days.
This thread isn't stupid...it makes a point
Their frequency of phone releases addresses AT&T's network upgrade needs, not Samsung.
AT&T contracts the OEM's to make devices for them. AT&T is paying boatloads for each device run. Thus they have an incentive to move 'old' devices out as soon as possible to make room for the latest tier. It's about recouping cost with device/accessory sales and new contracts.
Keep in mind, that unless you have confirmed LTE service in your area, paying full price for an LTE phone wouldn't make much sense. On contract? Sure and just wait for your LTE coverage to arrive.
AT&T got caught due to VZW's strong LTE push and the 'postponed' T-Mo M&A. So they have to make an LTE push in profitable markets and have a device that can answer VZW's offerings.
The bottom line in my opinion is for you the consumer to do your own homework and not rely on the salespeople to 'educate' you. They won't. They aren't trained to.
You have this forum, Google and more web rags on mobile tech than you could possibly read. A wealth of info for free where you can research and plan your purchase.
My Infuse and wife's Cappy are expected to remain in service for another 3 yrs. At that point I'll sell them to help offset the costs of their upgrades. If there's a need to upgrade soon than that, it'll be because the new device will fulfill a need these devices couldn't possibly fill.
Both of these phones are powerful and feature rich so I feel confident in their longevity.
Although, that flexible AMOLED screen tech is sexy!!! I'd love to see device designs!

The reason you piss people off so much is due mainly in part to how of an ass you are. Personally I don't care for iphones. Another thing is why is everyone who has sn iphone is a sheep? Some people genuinally prefer them. I think you talk way too much without thinking, and you really need to stay out of people's topics if your main objective is to cut them down, try to make every point they make seem invalid, and in a general sense just get on people's nerves.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was saying. And yes, I agree that the main issue is more than likely carrier related especially since Att is the only carrier that released a Skyrocket. This is what I'm looking for, discussion. Not for someone to sit here, call me stupid, and bash my topic and opinion in every way possible.

Need Help... Time to Switch Phones.

Hi All,
I am currently looking at changing my phone. Finally have a little financial back up to get one. I am interested in getting the Galaxy S III or Note II.
But i do not want to go for the dual core version of S III that is widely available. Since there are so many models of the internationally available. Can you let me know which S III models are available internationally can support LTE in USA? I see there is GT 9305 which supports LTE but its frequencies don't match the US carriers.

oh nice. from the rumors it sounds like the new BB is suppose to run android apps and possibly ios apps as well.,. what prepay are you on?
Don't go with the s3, it will be outdated soon enough. The note 2 is a good choice, but it looks like you haven't even looked at the nexus 4. Why is that?

I was going over some calculations and information websites, prepaid plans are better over a period of 2 year contracts. Saves you a lot of dough!
About the Nexus 4, that battery thing again nails it for me! :crying:
You have to buy your phone outright though huh ?

Yup. But
Look at it this way... $150 for S3 now, which you can get for $600. So that is a difference of $450. But on the plans i save $45 a month average. I am talking about unlimited talk text and 2 GB LTE plan. Contract for that would be $119 per month IIRC. Which would be $65 on prepaid. The difference covers up in 10 months and the rest 14 months you would be saving.
Plus no hassle of breaking terms, switching carriers, selling it for a decent price and whatever.
I'd go for the s3 unless your comfortable with a bigger phone then I'd go for the note 2. Both are very hackable and very good phones.

Well on sprint you could get unlimited data unlimited calls to any cell and unlimited text for about $83 a month and currently get the s3 for $100 and if your a member at a credit Union and get a $100 port in credit

The best phones out there right now, in my opinion is the S3 and the Galaxy Note 2. I would get one of those or wait for a couple of months for some of the newer phones to release.
If you can, I suggest waiting for the galaxy s4
