I have been trying forever to get ext3 working on my phone. I have 3 primary partitions; fat32, ext3 and linux swap. I used a card reader to create them via Partition wizard. Every software can see the 3 partitions, but my phone wont pick up the ext3. I tried wiping everything, reflashing dexter's rom, but i just cannot get it to work. I still see only 134mb on internal memory and it decreases as i install apps. I have even tried using link2sd but that gives me an error ("Mount script cannot be created"). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Me too, I used Miui optimize rom and Steel v4 (
Sent from my XT720 using XDA Premium App
That's strange. My EXT3 partition works both in Dexter's rom and in the Steelblue V4 rom.
I used gparted under Linux to do my partitioning. What I did was to resize the existing FAT32 partition and move it all the way to the right. Then I created a 2gb EXT3 partition all the way at the left. From there I created a 256mb swap partition in the middle, and I resized the FAT32 partition to take up the rest of the drive.
Did you guys remember to create an "app" folder on the EXT3 partition?
There are other folders that you can create to put the delvik cache on there among other things. I just don't remember off hand what you need to name them as.
Ya there is a folder there called apps, but for some reason, nothing is moving into it. do i need to run some sort of a script? what i did:
1. flashed dexters 1.3
2. partitioned sd card using partition wizard with a fat32, a ext3 and a swap partition
3. booted up phone, internal memory shows 134mb, all apps installed go to internal memory.
4. terminal shows ext partition with 1100 mb free space
Am i missing a step?
Thanks in advance

not folder apps but app no s....if your ext3 working fine then shud have lost+found folder @/sd-ext.. create app folder using root explorer then reboot..now your app shud automatically move to sd-ext..
and create cache folder dalvik-cache
Well i did what you guys said and now my apps are going to /sd-ext/app but im also losing space in the internal memory, and it does not show internal + ext3, it only shows internal. You guys have any idea whats happening?
Thanks for all your help guys.

Are you using Dexter 1.3 without any patches?
[If so, probably your dalvik-cache is on /data? So... even though the apps are going into /sd-ext, the optimized versions of the dex are being stored on internal memory.]
Yes... no patches, and dalvik is going to /data. Any idea whats up?

That's just how Dexter's 1.3 works by default and one of the reasons I started the bugfix patches. If you apply bugfix patch 3 dalvik-cache will move to /cache automatically (you can optionally move it to /sd-ext by creating /sd-ext/dalvik-cache and rebooting).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995989
Or, if you don't want the patch, you can maybe use Androidiani OpenRecovery--it has a menu option to install an init script to move dalvik-cache to /cache. I haven't tested whether that works or not, though.
After this patch, now the /sd-ext/app folder deletes itself after i restart the phone, tried a few times, same goes for davlik-cache. This is crazy every thing that could go wrong has gone wrong, thanks again for your help. You got any other suggestions?
I do not understand what you worry?

1. Formatted my card to the required partitions.
2. Flashed dexters rom followed by Mioze7Ae's bugfix 3.
3. Using root explorer I created /app folder.
4. Downloaded apps like there's no tomorrow.

I tried two different ways to partition my sd:
1) I used Gpatred and I did everything as described here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6z1Tu9l8WNc&feature=related.
2) I used MiniTooLsPartition Wizard and Root explorer to create app and dalvik-cache folders.
In both cases, everything seems fine....until i install some apps. After restart the phone can not load the android. The phone only shows M logo and restart. If I remove the card then OS load. What I have to do? Thanks in advance.
Are you partitioning your sd while its in the phone? Use a card reader if possible. Wipe clean your partitions and wipe data and dalvik cache. Then try again, although i did not have the problem that you mention, are you running any other scripts? eg. darktremors?
What I did:
1. Clean Installation of Steelblue V4 rom.
2. Two primary partitions (FAT32 and EXT3). I used card reader.
3. App and dalvik-cache folders on ext3 partition.
4. Wipe clean partitions and wipe data and dalvik cache.
After first reboot everything was fine. Then I installed a root explorer to check a ext3 partition. The app and dalvik-cache folders were there. I decided to restart the phone again before I install anything else and nothing happened....only M logo

dalvik-cache on ext partition will cause bootloops in Khal's ROMs.
First of all,i am really happy to announce (for those who came across with my desperate threads trying to solve my battery drain over 3G network issue) that flashing XXJPU Rom + Removing the partitions (swap + external extra storage) of my SD Card solved my problem. Battery is not draining anymore, and everything is working just fine with the stock rom.
The question is : Can i partition my SD Card again (to add internal storage, since i´ve came across the damn "Internal Storage is Nearly Full" message) ?
If yes, will i have to reflash the rom or , do anything else then just creating the partition using the Minitool software ?
Thanks in advance, and thanks again for those who tried to help me !
No need to make a new partition, extend the current one by minitool/gparted
I have o only one big partition used to store normal content. I need to make a new one to use as a extra internal storage space.. So i do need to partition it, all i need to know is if it will work and if i will have to do something else after partitioning it

If you create a partition on your SD Card as EXT2 ( i guess its EXT2 ) ,your OS will use it as internal storage.
Doing this, will solve the low internal storage issue.
I Just dont know if it works on stock roms,it does work on Kyrillos, inDroid, Sumee etc.
@OP i though u already had one partition when you said partition again
if your sd is as it is(just one partition)
then do this
flash g3mod
reboot into recovery
and partition
its the fastest way to get a partitio
then you can use an app2sd/data2sd script (system/etc/init.d)
Or if you have a card reader
use minitool/gparted to partition
shrink the existing one and make a new partiton(ext4)
and yea backup ur data, just in case!

Thanks for the reply : )
I will use minitool since i know how to use it.
After creating a EXT4 Partition, what will i need to actually tell my OS to use it as internal storage ?
Will i need to reflash rom ? Run any script (like Data2SD) ?
Also, is the Kernel or the Rom that actually recognizes the partitions and use them ?
EDIT : Hey @cdesai i just partitioned my SD using minitool creating a EXT2 Partition for internal storage upgrade.
Following again,this tutorial here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
Titaniun backup is not recognizing the extra space, what do i have to do now ?

Hmm.
ext4 would be a bit better but ext2 is also ok
now keep an a2sd script in /system/etc/init.d
there is a thread in dev section by kyrillos with the script and instructions, use it
or flash a custom rom which already has it
and yes you need a kernel with init.d support, but every custom kernel has that feature(cf-root,fugumod,g3mod,simplicity,etc.)

Plz help guys: i've got an inspire 4g & was using the 8g card provided with the device but bought i 16g. I don't have my laptop now so i had to save a few files to internal sd, pop the 16g & copy the files to the card, put the 8g back in, copied some more & did it all again. W/O a cpu i didn't know how else to do it. I used CM7, Absolution, MIUI, VU & never formatted or partitioned my card but i want to on this 16g card, i want ext4 but have no clue how to go about it. Should i have done that before i copied all my data from my 8g to 16? Can someone plz do me the favor of helping me out and/or explain what fomatting does & how tr partition. I will transfer my data the slow way again using root explorer if i have to, i just want ext 4 or is it really necessary? Alot of ROMS are going to it even tho it's a little overkill for a phone. geez thats dedication lol! As for going to EXT4, I don't believe it's necessary for all roms, many support both EXT4 and EXT3. I know it used to be a widely covered thing in the changelogs and OPs of ROM threads but lately they've been vanishing. This next bit you must understand is typically what I do before flashing a ROM and I don't believe it touches anything on your SD card but just be cautious if you have anything you really need on the SD card when doing this. I know ARHD's superwipe (found in the ARHD thread) will format everything to EXT4. There is also a full wipe 1.5 (search full wipe 1.5 and you should find the thread) that also formats you to EXT4..Again, be aware this will wipe your phone, I don't think your SD card but will wipe phone and require the flashing of a ROM afterwards. There is probably an easier way to do it but like I said I use the full wipe 1.5 before full wiping and flashing a new rom so my stuff is always EXT 4. hope that helps!
Thank u so much so using the superwipe 1.5 i shouldn't lose anything on my sd card? And i've got a good backup of my ROM if it does wipe my phone so i can just restore my backup, right? But i've also read that partitioning will wipe the sd, is that correct? I've got a junk 1g card i'm tempted to test it out on so i can see what happens in the process. Thank u buddy
Ok, so if do i have to do anything to go to ext4 or will i automatically be using ext4 file system if the ROM I'm flashing is ext4?

The 1.5 full wipe will wipe the entire phone, it's not the end all wipe you should use when full wiping but it will give you the EXT4 formatting that you want. I use the 1.5 full wipe then I wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and battery stats before I flash a new rom. In principle, yeah everything on your SD card should be safe since I typically delete everything but my photos and back-ups off my SD card before wiping and it's all there afterwards so you should be safe in that regard. I don't goof around with partitions though so someone else who is more comfortable it going to have to chime in here.

i already found it an read good stuff of it thanks for the help
use your sd card for more space
zerofill tar sounds to me like:
writing lots of "0" to the internal sd?
-> equal to a format of /system?
-> system is gone, mobile doesnt boot
-> all data lost?
Checked the features of kyorarom and what do I see...
Hybrid Data2SD and SD card swap
Why dont you use that feature?
Ah... I see... you didnt create an ext4 partition?
Thsi partition is needed for the feature above!
how to:
Create an ext4 partition via CWM
using this feature will move all user apps to sd card
have a fast card on your side and make a backup of your sd card data
-> all data will be lost on sd card when you repartition your card!!!!!
I think u r facing 0.0kb internal memory bug... if so flash with data.rfs
If not, go to recovery, wipe dalvik cache... format sd ext.. mount data... and mount sd ext

oh... a second please...
I remember something right now...
In my very early days (ECLAIR flashing) I remember that someone had also space 0.0 MB
And afaik the solution was to flash the CSC file (?) or something like that again...
That was the reason in these days why I flashed all (!) firmware versions from
xxjg7 to xxjk1
well... in froyo days...
I know that this posting is not very helpful, but you might find something similar with these hints in the net...
Hope this helps forward
Flashing zero fill should solve to 0.0kb problem, it formats everything on your phone, then flash a rom over it. If doesn't work, backup your SD card and format your sd ext and your whole SD card.

Hi,
I used my TF700 for several month, and I am very dissatified. At the moment I use a cleanrom, without external SD. As I am allready rooted an unlocked, I am not able to send it back to my seller ...
So, my last chance to get the device a little bit faster, is to install cromi rom and use data2sd. But after reading hours in several forums, I am not sure, which steps I should do to install it and which files I actually need.
I bought a class 10 microsd card, partitioned into a fat32 and an ext4 partition.
So , whats next? (It never mind, if i loose my internal sd-card)
1. I have to flash an data2sd kernel, right ? Which one?
2. I have to wipe the sd-card?
3. Install the cromi-rom ... right? Which one? I downloaded CROMi-Xenogenesis ODEX 4.7.0_Signed.zip. Or is there a special Rom for Data2SD?
Are there any further steps?
Thanks for your help!

1) You should flash the lastest cromix rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425383
2 Kernel, you have 2 choices:
a) Hund's custom kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2143093
b) _that modified stock kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230059
3) I alway wipe everything if go from one version to the next, but from cromi v4 to cromv5 you don't have to, just verify that you have the latest bootloader mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425383
4) Good luck!!

you have to do a bit more than that:
you need to make 2 partitions on your sd-card using Gparted Live CD as explained in the data2sd thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962507
first partition: formatted as FAT32
second partition: formatted as EXT2 or EXT4 (i use EXT4)
both partitions need to be primary partition.
if you don't do this right, it won't work and the kernel will likely switch to internal memory (it happened to me
i always flash the twrp zip always first before i do anything else in recovery.
i have a 64gb class 10 card, my first partition is 8GB FAT32 so i can make backups to this partition and place the ROM files so they don't get lost after wiping, the remaining 56GB is formatted as EXT4 and used as internal storage.
I use the latest cromi, _that's kernel, data2sd, fsync disabled and cache2sd turned off.
It makes the TF700 a lot more usable, but (sorry to say) it's still not the machine it should have been....
first partition: formatted as FAT32 boot flag?
second partition: formatted as EXT2 or EXT4 (i use EXT4) boot flag?

Curious, if one were to have made the mistake of having both partitions created as logical vs primary - what's the best way to resolve?
Fix and reboot?
Fix and re-flash and wipe cache?
Does this require a data wipe to work?
What's the best way to validate it's working correctly post boot?
Thanks!

In gparted you can convert logical to primary. Or wipe everything and start again.
As for knowing, you'll have a /datai folder where your old apps are stored as well as a new /data folder for new stuff. First boot will act like a clean install as well.
