How long should this take?
about 3-6 minutes at the max. its not a long process.
then I definitely have something screwed up. Have tried running this 3 times, get the start of the blue line, then nothing, just stops. Been letting it go for 20 minutes.
Are you in Download Mode and are you following step by step in the GTG Unbrick thread?
Yes, trying it again right now. Step by step.
5 minutes and still at "get pit for mapping". Is this normal?
10 minutes and no change
Hmm, I would make sure GTG Unbrick could read my phone first (COM## highlighted) then upload those 3 files that was included then try unbrick.
Com## is highlighted, that's what's confusing me
Try it without the pit...just pda and phone...that should work...had some issues with pit before

So what if the phone is not showing up in Odin, or is kies connects to it?
Your phone is in download mode and its not showing up as com## in Odin? Then the correct drivers aren't installed on your comp for it to recognize your phone...that's what it sounds like to me anyway

now I can't get root. I used SuperOneClick about 10 times. Phone is really in a mood tonight

Samsung Galaxy S 4g
Softbricked when I mistakenly loaded the vibrant rom. I have been reading for hours on how to fix this. After dozens of tries I found the guide for loading (with odin) T959UVKA6_REV05_home_low_CL860813.
I did have re-partition checked when I probably shouldn't have. I was trying to load s1_odin_20100512.pit as well. Odin said the process was successfully run but when I tried to reboot my phone nothing happened. I can't get it to even boot to the download screen.
I've tried every combo in the book (including remove battery, plug in USB, hold volume up/down, replace battery). I've left the battery out for as long as 10 minutes too (excessive, I know) That worked at least a dozen times before but now my screen won't even start up.
HELP! What do I do?!

I think I am in exactly the same boat as the OP. What is the best way to resolve this? Bring it into T-Mobile? Send it in to Samsung somehow? Is there a number to call for warranty repair or something?
Sometimes ODIN will still see the phone even when the screen is totally black. If ODIN can still see it, you can reflash a good ROM ~ get it going again.

I did the same thing as the OP. ODIN wouldn't recognize the phone. Ended up letting it sit overnight and then ODIN worked.
If you are flashing ROMs you should probably get a jig.
This guy is a forum member and great to deal with. (can't post the link) go to mobile tech videos dot com
Leave the battery off for a few minutes. Try Odin 1.85 to see if it recognizes the phone

Or you could follow the directions posted in this link to unbrick, as posted by Jager in the General SGS4G forum.
That method worked for me but its cause I flashed the correct phone deivce rom he didnt

It happens to me all the time. Just plug phone to computer holding volume up and down at same time. It shows the phone-cable-pc thingy and that's download mode. I went into that when I failed to Odin by mistake and just decided to try to Odin while in that "mode" and it did flashed. Hope this helped.
*Have Odin open before you plug cuz' that way you know it found the device.
*I think this method shown on Rootzwiki I discovered first but never posted. It happened while flashing 1st Audiophile. LOL... anyway, w/e. Good luck!

Try this even if the screen stays black/off, as long as Odin recognizes it (You'll get the yellow box with COM# in it) these steps will help.
Hello Everyone, just like to say i've been following XDA forums for awhile now, i've never had to ask for help cause i usually find a solution if i do my research, but this time im in need of some. So heres what happened,.... I just had flashed my sgs4g back to stock+root using Odin, everything was fine until i decided to flash a different rom using Odin, during the process everything was running good until towards the end, instead of odin saying pass it said failed, then my phone switched screens on me, instead of download mode, its now in this cell phone, exclamation point, computer screen, from what i read it should still be able to be read by Odin to flash back to stock, but my problem is it dont get read by the computer no more, i've tried to remove the drivers and then reinstall them but its still the same screen and Odin dont read it, Any suggestions would be Awesome!!!, Thank You,... ahead of time
The only time Odin has not found my phone was because it needed a reboot.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Excuse me for not knowing this, but do you mean to reboot Odin? or the phone?
Your computer would be my bet.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Reboot and plug the phone in a different USB port. Do a battery pull wait and then try again.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Try this
Unplug your phone from the computer and pull the battery
Start Odin and load your files
With the battery still pulled, plug your phone into the USB on your PC
Hold Vol+Up and Vol+Down and re-insert the battery
Odin will now recognize your phone.
Hit Start
Thanks again everyone for your input, but unfortunately my computer and phone stop cooperating with each other, i tried rebooting my computer and deleting all files and re-installing them, and still nothing! not sure what's going on, but later today i'm gonna try all this with my buddy's computer hopefully it works....
Please help me. My Infuse 4G doesn't boot. All I see was light on the button. This what happened. I want to go back to stock and use [ODIN][UCKE3] Return to stock (Updated 06/08/11) by gtg465x . I right click on Odin and run as Admin. Odin see my phone on a download mode. I select infuse.pit on PIT, PDA in Pda, and Phone in Phone. then click Start. It got stuck at factory.fs (don't remember the name actual name). It stuck there for so long, maybe like an hour. Then I decide to unplug and pull battery out. close the Odin and redo the step again. This time the status bar went half way and then got stuck again. I left it overnight just to see if it's actually finish and it never did. Just stuck there. Turn the phone on and i only see light on the button. Is my phone dead? I can still able to get to download mode but the phone won't boot.
I done return to stock so many times and was successful. This was the first encounter I had where Odin stuck and never complete it flashing.
Try things like reinstalling the drivers, another pc, another usb cable etc.
Thanks. Will try that and also i will try this [ODIN][UCKD5] Odin - Stock (100% or Root+3e) - (Update 06/05/11) since on FAQ #4 seem to be in my case. But if members had other recommendation, please post. thx in advance

Getting stuck on the factory.fs is pretty common here. You might try charging for a bit to see if you can get it to show signs of life. And that link up there^^^(UCKD5 Stock+Root+3e) has worked for me when gtg's didn't. Read the instructions for it carefully as you don't have to check as many boxes. You only need to load the file into the PDA slot. Also if you didn't have the drivers installed your phone wouldn't show up, so that's not your problem (although you could try re-installing them for **** and giggles)...
If THAT doesn't work try Adam's Heimdall one click HERE
If all else fails try a different PC. I had to and it worked like a charm.
Good Luck

plugged it in before the problem and if it doesn't find threw phone restart they computer and re put the phone in download mode and try again and keep doing that till it recognizes the phone and it should work then

Some times just trying a different USB port on the same computer will help to. Not sure why but on my laptop the USB port on the right my Captivate did not like for flashing but the one on the left side always worked right.
Thank you all for helping me out. My infuse is now back in business. I use [ODIN][UCKD5] Odin - Stock (100% or Root+3e) - (Update 06/05/11) but this one got my phone to always boot in recovery mode no matter what i did. So i decide to try Heimdall One-Click Back-To-Stock UCKJ4 + Easy CWM install [2.3.6] (FOR AT&T USERS) and then flash LinuxBozo's Defuse 1.5 kernel. Successfully flash it . However after using Heimdall One-Click, ODIN did not see my phone when it's in download mode. Besides that, everything went well.

What have you tried so far to get in to Download mode?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Here's the scenario.
I flashed AOKPb40 when I wasn't home. My phone was stuck on the Samsung boot screen. I tried 3 finger recov... no good. Still stuck on boot screen. Removed battery, waited a few minutes, 3 finger... still stuck on boot screen. I figured I'd wait till I get home and Odin back to stock. By time I got home my battery was dead. It wouldn't charge. It was on the charger for 2 hours and no go. I plugged the USB into PC and entered download mode. I figured what the hell... lets give it a shot. Launched Odin, started JScotts UCLB-Root-Modded Odin Package. Everything was running then... boom. Phone shut down right in the middle of FACTORYRFS. Pulled battery and tried the whole thing again... guess what... same thing. So I put my phone back on the charger and my screen showed a phone icon with a triangle with an exlcamation point and a PC icon. I thought "Oh Crap".
So here is how I fixed it.
I downloaded qkster's Heimdall One-Click package. I read up on how to use Heimdall and I was taken to a download page to download Heimdall suite. After many failed attempts to load the Heimdall package in Heimdall Front End, I kept getting a file size error. I googled the error and found qkster's re: to a guy with the same problem. Turns out the One-Click package is self executable, no need for the Heimdall front end suite. So I launched qkster's Heimdall package and it actually completed the flash! However, when the phone rebooted I was shown a partial CWM recov menu. I hit reboot and it kept taking me to the same CWM menu.
Now that I can get past the screen with the phone-caution-pc thing I tried using Odin with JScott's UCLB package. Odin finally worked all the way through, but with the same result as Heimdall, CWM Recov loop. I figured I was missing boot loaders. Flashed through Odin and still no good.
I now went all the way back to stock using GTG's Ultimate Unbrick. Voila! My phone is back! Holy toledo, 4 hours of trouble shooting and I finally have a working phone again.
Summary, Odin doesn't complete and you're stuck, here's what to do.
Use qksters Heimdall
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629079
If stuck in Recov loop. Use GTG's Ultimate Unbrick
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251
I hope my long painful recovery story will help someone out.
Sounds like you just needed an unbrick solution with a pit file for repartition. You could have used just the UCLB3 Unbrick with the pit file, and you would have been set.

Still, glad you worked it out. This is why it's a good thing that we have many options that work via Heimdall and Odin. When one isn't doing it on your phone, just try another. We just have to be careful not to call our way of fixing it the only right way or the best way. Several ways exist, so we truly have an unbrickable device. Well, unbrickable as long as you don't bork a bootloader flash.
Edit: By the way, that phone-caution-pc thing is still download mode.

Well said jscott, and glad you got it working. I would also add, that it would appear from the initial symptoms, that maybe you just lost recovery. Several roms, including uniporn have packages that can fix that. In the uniporn thread it is in post 3.
Also, I think there is a good lesson here too for others and that would be that it would be extremely wise to know your way around Odin and heimdall before embarking on that very first flash.
Again, this is just for future reference should someone read this later on. Glad to hear you are back up and running.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Good work.
As Yuma have stated, when you lost recovery, flashing this kernel would have brought you back to working cwm to flash the rom also:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25526654&postcount=3
And when you have completed the uclb3, you could have finished it with the boot loader flash and then do a factory reset. After that, flash which every insecure kernel to get back recovery to flash what ever you wanted.
As long as you can get back into download mode, you can use any of the restore process.
Thanks all for the follow up. The biggest problem was the dead battery. After I finally got this sicker up and running with the phone plugged in my battery was at 8%. The damn thing kept crashing while in download mode. But yes, this is not the only way. I had to use qksters heimdall to at least get the phone to boot. Once I got to boot into the recovery boot loop issue I used gtg unbrick.
If it wasn't for all the posts and threads from you guys I would've been screwed. Oh, and to top it all off, xda was down when I first started down the road. Long freaking day!

The first problem I had was Odin was crashing during the factoryrfs stage. That's why I tried heimdall. I just needed something to get loaded so I could start flashing. I didn't think about going straight to uclb, would've saved me a step or two

If you were using something like my earlier rooted UCLB3 Odin options, those don't have a pit. Those aren't intended as much as an unbrick/restore option as they are for a quick way to get to rooted UCLB3. Hanging on factoryfs.rfs suggests you needed repartitioning, and the UCLB3 Unbrick provides this, since it has a pit file. The other Odin package wasn't working because you needed a pit file to restore in your situation. That's why the GTG Unbrick ended up fully restoring your phone; it has a pit. It or the UCLB3 Unbrick should have worked to "unbrick" your phone right after the first failed Odin attempt. Also, as noted by Yuma and qkster, an option available before that first Odin flash was to restore just the kernel/recovery. That option became unavailable after the first failed Odin flash. Still, many options are available, and we're glad you found a combination that worked.

I have done everythig possible that can be done taking the battery out, charging it from wall charger and charging it from usb port. letting it wait for 2 days before messing with it. One day it went one step further to the white screen where the at&t logo forms and then it reboots again. I have not done a master reset or whatever its called because I want my pics of videos and contacts. The phone has been in the otter box from day one so it looks brand new and its over a year old. I could care less about the phone once I get my pics and videos off of it I will not mess with it again. Is it possible to save pics videos and contacts? I am not sure what you mean when you ask which ROM.

Okay, since you don't want to do your own thread. Read the information in the following link and follow it to the letter. This should put you back to stock and if everything works right, you will be able to get your info off the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
If you don't know how to put the phone in download mode, take your battery out, hold down the volume +/- buttons but no power button, put the batter back in and then plug the USB (connected to a computer that has the drivers from the link installed) into the phone. Do not disconnect the phone otherwise, you may end up with a brick.
