What do you guys think of this? - HTC Sensation

Doesn't it look like the Otterbox Defender?

At first looks cool, but then after a close look it kind of makes the phone look bulky

Looks exactly like what the Defender would be but Otterbox hasn't released a Defender for our Sensation. I wonder if these are from a batch of prototypes Otterbox had produced but decided not to market? I would love to hear from anyone who tries this. I might take the plunge myself as a matter of fact.

Yeah, I thought the same. They also have one with the silicone black and the plastic white. It looks appealing but i'm not too sure. I was hoping someone had it.

I'm with you. Also, its being shipped from the states so it adds to the possibility that it might be a prototype. I would buy it, but the seller doesn't refund.

Ordered it today.

The Otterbox Defender is one of the most popular tough cases for any device. Unfortunately it isn't made for the Sensation but this looks exactly like what it would be if it were actually made.

Mine arrived this morning.
I had a Defender for my iPhone, which saved it a couple of times (mainly from beer spillage) so I wanted something similar and this appears to be the only option until a more established manufacturer pulls their finger out!
So, here are my thoughts on it.....
Overall:
Build quality is very middle of the road, ergonomics need working on, but for the price it does the trick.
Inner case:
The inner plastic case is snug and feels robust enough to withstand the odd drop (not as tough as O/box plastic tho..). It clips on and off easily enough, but not so easy as to make me concerned. All the holes are there and they are where they should be.
However, there is a serious - yet workable - design flaw with the "built-in" screen protector. It comes glued to the inner case, which is great, but in order to remove the protective plastic film on either side of it, you have to prise it off and then stick it back on once you've removed the film. Luckily the glue they use is extra crappy, so it's quite easy to un-stick. To re-glue the screen protector back on, I just used tiny amounts of superglue gel, applied with a pin head. Unfortunately tho, this means that the front face of the phone is not sealed and therefore not splash or dust proof.
Outer case:
The outer silicone is not of a good quality. It's very thin and floppy and I predict it would lose it's shape and possibly tear if it were pulled about too much. This is both unfortunate and ironic as it takes a lot of pulling and poking to get it to fit around the inner case. Once you've got it on properly, it's fine - it's just a bit of a mission to get it snug and flush. However, the biggest design flaw with the outer case, is that the headphone and usb port covers do not stay shut - or rather they open very easily. There is no "wedge" mechanism on the doors to ensure they hold in place. This is particular annoying as they flap open if your fingers brush past them when you are holding the phone. In order to rectify this, I have used a tiny bit of blu-tack (don't know what the US equivalent of it is, sorry) on the inside of the cover doors so they stay shut. One other thing... my particular model has what looks like a small cigarette burn on it, but I guess that's just my bad luck there!
Conclusion:
Obviously, I realise that this is not a O/box, or any other decent case brand for that matter, so I can't be too harsh on it, especially at the price I paid ($17.95/ £11.50). At the end of the day, it's an (almost fully) encapsulating case which will give my Senny more protection than most other options available, at least until someone makes a better alternative.
No, it doesn't look like the coolest case on the block, but that's not what I have my phone for, so I'm not too concerned about aesthetics. What matters to me is that it works.... and it does (almost lol!).
Hope this was useful. If anyone has had any differing experiences with this case, I'd be very interested to hear about them.
Cheers,

Quick Review On My N1 Case

Pros:
-Makes typing easier
-Protects phone from scratches
-Makes phone a lot less slippery
-Nice feel in the hand
-Actually makes buttons easier to press for me
-Disguises phone (if you don't want everybody to know you have a N1)
-Stopped me from lightly tapping the outside of the screen while holding it so I don't have those inaccuracy problems because of lack of multi-touch
Neutral:
-Seems to block the bottom microphone a bit but people say I still sound crystal clear.
Cons:
-Phone doesn't look as good
-Blocks dock connectors
Should you buy it?
I think so it made my N1 a lot more usable and I feel a lot more comfortable with it now because without it my N1 feels very fragile.
I ordered this case, im glad its good, one question, is it a lint magnet?

As far as I can tell, no.

slightly off topic.... are you using HTC's Sense or some other apps/tweaks?

It's called Weather Widget(s) you need to get the donation version for the flip clock. No special workarounds for Sense it's just a widget that looks like HTC's flip clock

Thank you so much on that review. I just might consider on buying that case.
I have the translucent version of this case. I think it looks slightly better than the black one, though not by much.
I pretty much agree with the OP's review. The dock connectors at the bottom are blocked, so I guess after the docks come out I may be looking for something else. It's fine for now.
It does keep the camera from getting scratched up when the phone is laying on a table.
And no, it's not much of a lint magnet.
I have the same case as the OP... and I agree on his spot on review!
But... (at least for me) it is a "lint magnet".... as I think most silicon cases are.
When the "docks" come out, I think you will need to remove almost any case in order for it to fit. All "external" cases add some bulk.
My plan it to install a full body film and *still* use the silicon case.
Here is why...
I am a little anal when it comes to "protecting" my phone. I paid full price for this bad boy, and want it to last. My G1 after about 16 months still looked like it was just out of the box.
When you use these silicon cases... dust and other crap still get inside of them. Then when you take it in and out of your pocket, that stuff acts as a really fine sandpaper and after a while you will notice some wear. Now, I am not a big fan of the whole phone film protector, but I plan on keeping it hidden under my case.
How is taking the phone in and out of your pocket? Does the silicone make it more difficult?

Maybe a little microfiber or felt inside the case would make for a better fit and better protection? I'm assuming the inside is just plastic...?
Just got mine today and it feels great in my hand. Its a little bit loose around the sides, but I feel it's much more protected than with out one.

SGP Ultra Slider - Case

Check this out!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXMqxAgKnA4&feature=youtu.be&a
i like
but cant find any of these SGP cases or protectors from UK sellers yet?
not good, it's a plastic hard case
it will blow up apart at the first drop, i've had cases like that for other phones, not good for protection.
okay for fashion
OMG !!!!
where i can buy it ?
Pretty good, although I want a case that removes the current backpanel that utilizes those hinges and saves some space. Having a case on top of a removal and useless backpanel seems a waste to me.
but will it scratch the chrome bezel badly when keep slide in and out?

Likely, but we don't know till someone gets it.
this looks pretty useless to me. Just like an above poster said, the case is made of a plastic that will shatter and crack upon impact and will not be a very good protector for the SGS.
Another thing i'm wondering is, what's the point of this sliding mechanism? I mean, if the case is meant to be on the phone all the time, is the sliding feature only good for removing the phone? If so, i don't see the point for an extra feature like that when we can just remove the phone the conventional way like with most hardcover back cases.
If the case is only for storage, like when you put it in your pocket, and that you will remove it when using it, wouldnt a leather case pouch be more practical and offer better protection?
Just my 2 cents.
i actually tried one of those in the stores yesterday, and i didn't like it the plastic is really too hard, it will not offer impact (drop) protection
the mesh type cases found on the other Case topic offers more protection that this
however of all the 3 type of cases i've tried, the Silicon type is the best, it kinda sucks in looks (there are a few colour and types that does looks good), and it offers the most protection for accidental drops

The fact that it shatters when it hits the floor shouldn't be a bad thing in terms of protecting the phone, other than having to buy a new case.
A phone hitting a floor is all about dissipation of energy - if the energy goes into cracking and breaking a case apart, then a lot of the impact energy will be absorbed by the case breaking. That's why crash helmets commonly break on impact.
A rubbery/solid case might seem a better idea if you accidentally drop your phone, but in reality the shock will be transferred through the rubber (although somewhat dampened) and into the phone structure - and is so in a way more likely to crack the screen/phone chassis.
Of course it depends on the surface, angle of impact and height of the drop, but in general, if your phone falls and the back cover/case/battery fly out, it's better that the impact energy is distributed into these pieces than being absorbed straight into the phone/screen.
This case caught my interest, my only concern is that when we slide in the galaxy S.. would it scratch the chrome bezel ?
warping up plastic in more plastic..

Exactly my sentiment. Most likely you can't

The deal with rubbery case is that it is elastic, it's able to deform and hence reduce the impact/impulse, the same way car bumpers are designed for
Back to topic: I like the slider, maybe too slippery for me =(

[POLL] Metal Battery Cover?

Hey guys, I have a few friends who have this phone and one thing I personally don't like is the plastic back cover. I know it's durable, but it seems like a metal back cover would go better with the phone. I have a prototype place near my house and I was thinking about having metal back covers made for the Infuse. They would be painted to match the phone as well.
Would this be something of interest for anyone? If so, what would be a reasonable cost you would pay for a metal back cover? Of course, I would try to keep the cost as low as possible. Please complete the poll so I can can gauge interest for this.
Thanks!
i for one love metal backs, I would even pay a little extra for some customization!!

Yeah but I actually plan to keep this phone for awhile, so I would spend in the area of $100 for maybe a brushed metal design, maybe like a brushed metal android peeking out of something, it would just give it that extra something. If they are able to do stuff like that and you generate enough buzz I am definitely in.

Honestly I don't think it's a good idea. A metal back will probably impact antenna reception of the phone. Samsung designed this with plastic elements in mind, and the antennas lying behind the plastic will be adversely impacted. We have the second best SAR rating of any current phone, so as much as the metal back idea sounds cool, a usable phone sounds better IMHO.

A valid point, I should probably get a few made and put them on my friend's phones and see if anything is affected. I wouldn't think it would make that big of a difference though, but you could be right.
Very intrested in a metal back covers thats one of the reasons i liked hd2.
Honestly, its probably not worth the effort. Just get yourself a thin case and be happy.
i would accept one if it worked. i just have a feeling there will never be one as the phone is not designed for it. i think the all the radio antennas would be blocked or crippled and im not sure it would snap in and out easily without damaging the phone.
Maybe a transparent cover would be aswome
Plastic is more durable. It has a lower impact on signal strength. It doesn't heat up like metal can.
Sure metal looks nice, but it doesn't make sense. Although it can't possibly be worse than having a glass back.
Not to mention you need some serious flex to get it on and off.

I would love to have CHROME backcover or some one painted the plastic backcover chrome and sell it!
Sorry to bump this up but is this project down?
I would buy one for my infuse.

Good luck pulling the metal off when you wanna get to your battery/similar/SD. :x

+1 If anything I would see it being a plastic piece with a layer of metal on top...metal tabs snapping into the plastic holes seems like a nightmare waiting to happen...
this would be awesome for the aesthetics. but you would have to have a custom case or go bareback to show it off.

My review of the Orzly Air Stand Case with pics

Hi all,
Was able to get a hold of this case from Orzly for the Nexus 6P… Here's my review of it…
It's dual layered, both layers are made from the same material but they both have different properties. The first layer is a flexible rubber TPU and the back is a tougher harder material. The 6P is already quite a heavy device, the Air Stand case isn't too heavy so this helps to not turn the phone into a brick! The back also has a soft touch matt texture which feels good to hold in the hand, although made from plastic, it feels far from plastic. The matt coating definitely gives it a premium feel.
This is definitely the first type of case that I have seen with this particular type of design and I have to admit, it works and looks good! I have the silver 6P so through the tiny holes, you can see the colour of the device, it's not overpowering or doesn't end up looking like a pattern on a bad Christmas jumper. The patterned hole design is a thumbs up for me.
The case also features a simple kick stand to put the phone in a horizontal position. It's a feature that has been around for a while now, so although not mind-blowing, it's handy when watching anything on the phone or just keep on a table when I'm not using it.
I had a Nilkin screen protector on the device, but when I installed the case onto the phone, the screen protector began to lift. Wasn't sure if there was going to be compatibility issues so got in touch with Orzly who confirmed that the case will work with their screen protectors but can not comment on the compatibility with other branded screen protectors.
Overall I would definitely recommend this case to anyone who owns a Nexus 6P that's looking for something different. It's not quite used to what I've seen before but once tested it's grown on me and i really like it and am constantly being asked by people where they can buy this case
Here's a few pictures, if you would like to see more pictures or have any questions pls let me know

Thanks for this info, its look quite nice but I've not seen this case anywhere. Where did you buy it from and do they have them in other colours? And you mentioned dual layers, so does the inner layer have matching holes too - because i quite like the idea of the phone showing through. Final question I promise is this bulky? I know you said its not heavy but i am really not one for the otterbox style cases ...

It looks quite slim, I don't think it's too bulky. Also I saw this picture on their website which should answer your question regarding the matching holes on the inner layer.
It's dual layered around the edges which is good as the phones more likely to drop on the sides, edges or corners more than anything if you drop it!
Is the stand sturdy .... Or is it a flimsy piece of plastic? I hope to not notice it's there unless needed, then pull it out and it holds phone with no issue

Based on the pictures alone, it looks sturdy enough, but bearing in mind it's a very small kick stand, but have seen something similar on other branded cases and not seen or heard any complaints.
Thanks for the review! Definitively one of the case's i will have to consider.
Can you use the kickstand to use the phone more easily one handed?

My take on the Poetic Affinity case...

I'd like to thank Poetic for the opportunity to review their Affinity case. Without their offer, I honestly would have never tried this case (just being honest). I am very picky about cases and I usually end up just tearing the case off and going caseless after a short period of time.

Look and feel:
When I first saw this case a while ago, I chose not to buy it because it looked plasticy/cheap with the hard back edges. It looked like a bland case and likely a cheap one that I would just toss out after using it for all of two seconds. Now, I actually like the hard plastic a lot! I especially am enjoying the side grip edges (although I sometimes confuse the edge for the volume button).
The case is made of soft touch silicon with which we are all familiar. Every part of the materials of this case remind me of the cheap store bought (likely Walmart bought) cases. But, this case doesn't feel cheap. I can't quite figure out why it doesn't feel cheap but it doesn't. The layout of the case is really good. The top of the case even grips the slope of the phone.
Update: the buttons on side are some of the best feeling buttons on a case. I hate the feeling of trying to search for a button or not knowing if it was really pressed.
Fit, finish, and durability:
The fit is tight as others have mentioned. It was slightly difficult to get the phone in the case. However, once in the case, the fit is spectacular. The edges next to the screen are far enough that LMT launcher works without it being set to more than 35 for width. That is huge to me. Also, when sliding for a menu, like in Google Play, you can do that without clicking on the hamburger menu. That last detail seems trivial, but when you constantly are trying to slide over and the freekin case won't let you get it right, you want to curse the world. This is a place where many cases fail.
Update about fit: I think the tight fit goes back to the stiff material used for the bumpers that also prevents much shock absorption. Taking the case off is a bit of an Olympic event without feeling like you're going to break something.
Finish is lacking that "premium" appeal and look. Maybe Poetic can add some sort of larger logo or design to the case to give it some flair? I guess what I'm trying to say here is that it doesn't LOOK premium or unique. If you're someone who wants a case that the world looks and says, "i want that case", then this case isn't for you.
Durability of the case feels iffy, but I really can't point to anything appearing to be made cheaply, ready to fall apart. A la the Nexus 6 back cover issues. The glue seems strong etc. Only time will tell otherwise, however. I personally am going with the case being well made as everything points to that direction.
As for drops, I haven't dropped my phone in the case, nor do I plan to, *crossing fingers*. That being said, the cases by Tech21 have a satisfactory bounce when you lightly drop the phone in the case on a table etc. This case doesn't really have a bounce. The sides do have a slight bounce, but not much and the top and bottom don't have any bounce. In other words, if you drop your phone in this case, it's less absorbing than it is shear hard impact deflecting. So, if you drop your phone in this case, it's a possibility that the case won't absorb enough shock to really protect your phone. I wouldn't recommend more than a 1-2 foot drop with this case and that fear will concern people. Most drops are from 4-6 feet.
I would like to see Poetic do some thinking on the material. Or, maybe there is something I'm missing about the design and I am grossly wrong. But, I doubt that I'm too far from the truth.
Overall thoughts:
Despite my dislike of the plain and outdated design as well as the drop durability concerns, I do like this case a lot. It feels better than any other of my cases which include another slip on case as well as a case with a screen protector built in. The other cases feel far bulkier and less comfortable. I enjoy a "naked" feel to my phone and that's why I don't usually have a case on for very long. I cycle cases all the time. But the Poetic Affinity case provides a naked feel and I really do like that. The grip is great and the feeling of the case is very satisfactory despite its looks.
No case is perfect. That being said, if you want a naked feeling case that gives some protection as well as a great feel and grip, then this case is definitely one of the better options and it's the best I've tried thus far. If you want a case to protect your phone or look stylish, then I would recommend looking elsewhere for a case.

Great review! I also received this case (chose the Frost/Clear variant) as a promotion and really like it.

The volume buttons? Yep they are nice for sure. It's hard getting the case off but that's probably good in the long run.

Yeah the volume buttons. It's definitely snug fitting which I am OK with as well.

I'm really looking for a way to get this case off easier.
