[Q] Reading Backup Data - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to read the WP7 backup data files on my PC?

They're encrypted, apparently with a device-specific key, so not as far as anybody has found.
By the way, this is a question better suited for the Q&A sub-forum.

Zune don't see my Pre Mango State any suggestion?

As in, you connect the phone and the software doesn't see it? What phone is it, what build is it on, have you made any modifications to it (custom ROMs or registry edits or anything), and is it in Tethering mode? Those are the usual culprits.

I have a Htc Trophy alias Spark updated to Mango, and I would like to go back to Nodo for downgrade Spl and install DFT...I never did any edit or installed custom Rom.

Sorry emaf83, you're still going to need to be more specific about the problem. Are you saying the phone is currently on Mango and Zune can't find your restore point to roll it back? Are you saying you flashed a Release NoDo ROM and now Zune doesn't see the phone anymore? Are you saying you rolled back to pre-Mango using Zune and now Zune doesn't see the phone anymore? Are you saying something else entirely?
Please explain what you are expecting to find but aren't finding, or what you're looking for. Also, please describe the current state of the phone (OS version, does it run normally, etc.)
If you're looking to downgrade the bootloader, one possibility is to find an official (RELEASE) ROM and flash that. This can be done on the original bootloader. I've been able to do this with 4.x SPL to downgrade it to something that works with RSPL/HSPL. Reports of whether that downgrade method works with 5.x range from "I think so" to "No" to "this may damage your phone" though, so be careful.

Pre Mango State is back up I did to install the beta of Mango whitout being developers...
The guide said to copy the folder to back up that was in the path C:\PreMangoState\, and place it in the folder C: \ Users \ username \ AppData \ Local \ Microsoft \ Windows Phone Update \. I did everything but Zune does not recognize the restore point. The phone has no problems with Mango runs well here are the specs:
Version OS: 7.10.7720.68
Number revision firmware: 2250.21.40600.177
Number revision hardware. 0003
Version software radio: 5.69.09.05a_22.50.50.21U
Version hardware radio: A.102.0.D4
Version bootloader: 4.6.2250.0(129185)
Version SOC: 2.2.5.0
In bootloader:
PC40100 SS-BC (4K)
SPL-4.6.2250.0(129185) MNG
MicroP(LED) 0x09
TUOCH A1(v10,20)
SD SANDISK 7580MB
Partition Info-v211v413
I cannot flash it whith an official Rom because the firmware of my Austrian operator A1 (CV 177) not found! I can also do the unbrand, but using the method of the Gold Card, you also need an Android phone that I don't have. Sorry for my bad English Anyway, thank you for your interest.

Well, if you're going to use HSPL and flash a custom ROM anyhow, it doesn't really matter if the ROM you flash matches your carrier. You just need any official ROM that is old enough that it will have an SPL (bootloader) of version 3.1 or less. The ROM *does* need to match the phone, but doesn't have to match the operator.
If your backup is in the Windows Phone Update folder but Zune isn't seeing it (it should show up in Settings -> Phone -> Update -> Restore button near the bottom), then this approach may be the best.

I understand, but I don't have a SPL 3.1 or less...my SPL is 4.6.2250.0...and then I have to do the downgrade. But when I go to flash the ROM crashes and gives me " Invalid Id Error " and the phone restarts...because it don't corresponds to my operator.

[Q] Possible to restore my backups after flashing a custom rom?

I want to Interop-unlock my Trophy and from the treads i read i need a custom for that. But can i still restore my current backups after installing a custom rom?
I've installed stock ROM in the past which changed the backup folder name (C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update\xxxxxxxx - xxxxxxxx - xxxxxxxx - xxxxxxxx) and i couldn't restore my backups
I personally have never been able to get a backup to successfully retake on the phone I took the backup from. Your mileage may vary but I don't think it works.
You can interop-unlock a Trophy (or almost any other HTC first-gen phone) if your firmware version isn't too high. Just rolling back the version should be enough to do that.
However, to answer your question, no you can't restore a (Zune) backup into a custom ROM, not without losing the custom ROM. The backup includes the ROM image, and restoring it completely wipes the phone and restores it exactly as it was before, ROM included.
Can i interop-unlock with Mango or do i have to roll back to NoDo? My phone is dev-unlocked btw.
My current OS version: 7.10.7720.68
I said your Firmware version, not your OS version. However, if you're still on 7720, there's a decent chance (but not a guarantee) that you're OK.
Did you even *try* looking at the official interop-unlock thread under dev&hacking? It's almost always on the first page, very easy to find by search, and linked from the sticky thread at the top. It does require dev-unlock, but you have that...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963
Yes trust me i know where the seach button is, tried everything going back to NoDo and follow ansar's guide - also tried your interlop hack.
I believe i should be OK as long as my bootloader is 4.6.
I read your comment in another tread about interop-unlock and full unlock correct me if im wrong, i need to flash the bootloader with a custom bootloader before my phone becomes fully unlocked? And is it even possible to be fully unlocked with stock ROM?
My bad don't know why i wrote the OS version, here is the phone info:
OS version: 7.10.7720.68
Firmware revision number: 2250.09.16907.401
Hardware revision number: 0003
Radio software version: 5.69.09.05a_22.50.50.21U
Radio hardware version: A.102.0.D4
Bootloader version: 4.6.2250.0(129185)
Chip SOC version: 2.2.5.0
Did you try Heathcliff74's app? It uses the same hack as mine but works on more phones; I don't even know why I left my XAP up. I don't know how Ansar's stuff works, which means I don't entirely trust it, but people have reported it working... Of course, he's published enough different things that "ansar's guide" could be any of several procedures.
Your firmware version is surprisingly low for a first-gen phone; I'd expect Heathcliff74's interop-unlock to work just fine. Note that if it's a Verizon Trophy (hybrid GSM/CDMA) there's a few additional steps you'll need to take, which are available in Heathcliff74's "official" interop-unlock thread as well.
SPL (bootloader) 4.6 is too high to install HSPL (required for a custom ROM) directly, but is somewhat easier to downgrade than 5.x (which typically requires a goldcard or similar shenanigans). if you want to use a custom ROM, though, you'll certainly be able to get full unlock.
I'm personally working on a full-unlock for stock ROMs, based on my HtcRoot project. It will require interop-unlock (or NoDo) and at least temporarily downgrading to an outdited firmware, though (2250.*.3XXXX.* works on my HD7).
Yes also tried Heathcliff74's app, but i gave it a try again and it seems to be interop unlocked now. I uninstalled HTC Connection Setup and Heathcliff74's app then restartet the phone which i didn't do the many times before!! After reinstalling the apps it worked!
Does the low firmware ver. mean anything?
Sounds good, looking forwards it
Low firmware version just usually means that your phone's HTC drivers that are used for high-privilege apps (like TouchXplorer, Advanced Config, etc.) haven't yet been crippled. In this case, it's a good thing. However, different phones use different version numbers for the same level of functionality in their firmware, so comparing yours and mine doesn't necessarily mean anything.
You shouldn't have had to either uninstall Connection Setup nor reboot the phone, but I'm glad you got your interop-unlock working!

[Q] How to update diagnosis?

Hi, my samsung omnia 7 (7740) has 0.628 as diagnosis menĂ¹. Interop unlock doesn't work with that. How can I update my diagnosis app?
If you read the Interop Unlock thread, I'm pretty sure it has directions. If you doa search, I *know* there are directions. If you instead make a new thread about it, you may get snarky answers.
That said, just un-installing Diagnostics from the app list, then re-installing it using the phone dialer, will install the new version (assuming your firmware has been updated to a new version since you installed it before).
Maybe i made a new thread because this doesn't work? I'm on 8107 now and diagnosis 0.628 installed again. I'm going back to 7740, but I don't find a solution to update diagnosis.
Well, if you want people to assume you've read the relevant info, it's a good idea to mention the things that somebody who has read it (and still can't update) would have told us, like:
A) The fact that you actually tried the standard update method already.
B) The steps you took and the result of them.
C) What firmware (*not* OS, firmware!) version your phone has.
That said, if the standard method doesn't work for you, I can't really help here. You could try a custom ROM if nothing else is working, I guess...
Firmware : 2424.11.11.2
Hardware: 3.15.0.4
Radio : 2424.11.9.1
Hardware radio : 0.0.0.800
Bootloader : 5.11.1.8
SOC: 0.36.2.0
I don't like custom rom for now, it's v1 and still not full stable..waiting..

[Q] downgrading wp7

hey guys,
i've got the samsung omnia w gti8350 and i installed the latest update including kk2, but now i havn't the phone either unlocked nor i have a backup.
i downloaded the full mango build 7720 rtm and the wp7 update cab sender. when i wanted to "update" actually downgrade, the anser was no cab was required. the phone doesn't let me downgrade to mango!
is there a possible answer how i can downgrade it or how i can uninstall kk2 without having a backup?
thanks for your attention
daniel
I'd ask what you did with your backup, but it's probably too late for that now.
You need a ROM flashing tool, not a CAB sender (which is used for updates, not full ROMs). I know that ROM flashing utilities exist for the first-gen Samsung phones, and would assume that either they can be used with second-gen or you can find one that works. The tool used for HTC (like I have) is called ROM Update Utility, commonly abbreviated RUU.
You may want to look in device-specific parts of the forum. Also, just for the record, do you mind posting your firmware version info (from Settings -> About -> More Info)? People are constantly asking how to check for the KK2 version, and it would be good to have a number I could point to and say "if it's at least this high, you need to downgrade."
Here we go,this is what i got after the update:
Firmware revision number 7.10.8107.79
Hardware revision number 23.15.0.8
Radio software version 2424.11.12.1
Radio hardware version 0.0.0.800
Bootloader version 6.1.2.0
Hope it helps, since update i was unable to unlock using windowbreak.

@GoodDayToDie: would it be possible to use the ROM Update Utility to flash my omnia w?
Daniel
I don't know; ROM flashing isn't my thing (I'm still on a stock ROM). I strongly suggest you go look at the Omnia [7] forum, if you can't find an Omnia W forum, and ask how to re-flash the ROM. Alternatively, you could try searching (using Google/Bing, since the forum's search tool is down). You could also look at the XDA-Devs wiki; a lot of this sort of info is stored there.
Here you are
OS: Windows Phone 7.5
Date: 2011 November
PDA: I8350XXKK4
CSC: I8350PLSKK4
Download: Click HERE
This ROM is from Poland, unfortunately it's the only ROM I could find for your phone. Anyway this shouldn't give you any kind of problem.
How to flash:
- Extract the archive
- Open the folder Downloader and run WP7_Downloader_Ver_3.8_for_Secure_and_SMD_change_Parttiton_and_Support_Retail_binary.exe as Administrator
- Click on PDA and choose PDA_I8350XXKK4_REV0.nb0
- Click on CSC and choose CSC_I8350PLSKK4.csc
- Click on Phone and choose PHONE_WEMBLEY_16002402_open_KK1_rev00_RC1.bin
- Click on Eboot and choose EBOOT_I8350XXKK4_REV0.eb0
- Put your phone in Download Mode (Turn it off and press Volume Up Key + Camera Key + Power).
- Plug in your phone, wait until the program finds the phone and then click Start
If the program doesn't find the Phone, then you need to install Samsung USB Drivers: Download HERE
hey AshleyT
i tried all you said exactly that order but nothing worked:
picture as attachment
Have i made a mistake?
Uhm... Everything seems correct
Try these USB drivers:
Samsung USB Driver v1.3.2300
Uninstall the old ones before installing these!
Also, I found another revision on that firmware, if you have the same error with the new drivers, try with this other one:
http://hotfile.com/dl/142699209/c6a2bc7/I8350XXKK4_XEKK4_SERKK4.rar.html
i have samsung omnia w with frmware v7720 and diagonisis ver 1109 in which the window break method does not get applied...so for this reason i want to downgrade my phone...is possible to use windows support tool for downgrading to earlier windows ver i.e. NoDO because i dont have any backup of it so i cant even reterive it with zune
i've now tested the new drivers and the new rom that you posted.
It seems not to work! Same problem as before, no way out! I think samsung provided with kk2 an update that blocks all possibilities to "hack" this phone.
2nd gen devices (like Omnia W) can't be downgraded to NoDo because they didn't even exist before Mango!
Anyway 7720 is the OS version, not the firmware.
You can always try the ROM that I posted above and see if you're able to apply WindowBreak on it

Well, my Samsung Omnia 7 also received KK2 update which blocked the possibility to use WindowBreak, but I was able to flash even a custom ROM, so I don't really think that the problem is realted to the firmware.
Are you sure that you're in bootloader mode?
You can also try the procedure on another computer, but I don't know what else I could suggest you, because I didn't have any problem on my Omnia 7!

Are the bootloader mode and the download mode the same? First you mentioned i've to go to the download mode (vol. up + cam. + power).
If that's true i am in the right mode.
I'm interested in downgrade my Omnia W too. I found this. I hope that it helps, but i think, that it's only for upgrade...
Can i make a custom frimware for 2nd gen devices???
Since you'd need to unlock the bootloader before you could install it, a custom firmware for gen2 phones isn't yet a useful project...
So i tried it with later drivers and Poland Firmware and it seems that it doesn't works.. Still the same firmware.
@WooDoo.CZ: don't you forget to ckeck the checkboxes from PDA, Phone, Eboot & Phone Boot. Unless you check these, i think it won't send any files to your wp7 device...
Sorry boys. So I did it again and now i checked it. And same problem as you had.
edit:
I found this. Anybody should try it. I don't have time right now.

i tried now what you found. For me it didn't seem to work! Error: md5 checksumm not valid for both of the roms mentioned before in this threat.
Hmm, so I tried it too, and i had error: This is a unknown binary.. So what next?

how intall official rom on my HTC 7 PRO

Hello,
I have a HTC 7 Pro that I bought on the internet. It is sim-unlock original but has a layer swiscom because I wanted a keyboard with qwertz (I'm used to that because I lived in Holland and lontemps was this type of keyboard). The so currently on:
OS Version: 7.10.8107.79
Number of micro program: 2250.21.51101.166
Version of the software radio: 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U
Version of the loader startup: 5.11.2250.0
In short I would like to remove this rom so swiscom and put an official HTC. And by the same ocasion make interop unlock to unlock my tel.
So I have an account ChevronWP7 official because I had bought for $ 9 ChevronWP7 the official. I can install apps xap but not all ... but somtimes I get the error 0x81030120.
So my goal is not to have this message and then install what I want it. And at the same time spend a HTC official rom.
I do not really understand how. Following some tutorial as I have a spl 5.x I can not and I must make that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893152
Then after I have to change the official rom for htc ... but I do not understand all these steps.
If someone could explain to me all that'll fix things before I do something stupid.
Besides what's the difference between:
Chevron-unlock
unlock-interop
Full-unlock
PLEASE help me!
PS: I was very well when I wedged my windows mobile flash etc on windows phone but the only thing I did was change the micro sd card in a 32 gb.

[QUESTION]: HTC 7 Pro T7576 - 7.10.8107.79 - Unlockable?

I recently purchased a new HTC 7 Pro T7576 and am looking to unlock it to install the root tools.
I have spent several days trying to read up about unlocking prior to posting in this thread, but have not had much luck.
Based on my research, I understand that there exist several different type of unlocks. For the work I'd like to do with this device, I require that root tools are installed and understand that the INTEROP unlock would suffice for this as the tools are not native tools.
I have followed most of the instruction online with out much luck for setting up the device yet. The details of the device are:
Name: HTC 7 Pro T7576
Software: Windows Phone 7.5
OS version: 7.10.8107.79
Firmware rev number: 2250.21.51202.111
Radio software version: 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U
Radio hardware version: A.102.0.D4
Boot loader version: 2.2.5.0
The steps I've taken thus far are to take a backup of the device using zune, download the HTC_Interop_Unlock.xap and tried to install it using XAPDeployX-v0.9.
The error message I get back is:
Deployment FAILED with the following ERROR:
Failed to connect to device as it is developer locked. For details on developer unlock, visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=195284.
Is there any luck for this device?
Thanks!
Based on some additional reading... I would require to flash the boot loader and put a custom rom.
Can anyone confirm?
After several days of research, it appears that the Interop method does not work any more.
Additionally, can someone provide some direction? I'm looking to flash but the instructions aren't clear and I don't want to brick my device.
Thanks.
Any tips from anyone? I'm trying not to avoid bricking my device.
ANy help would be greatly appreciated.
My journey for unlocking this device is still moving forward.
From additional reading, it looks like my SPL is 5.2.2.5.0 which means I must downgrade it...
The only way I see so far is with a gold card.
Given I have an OTG cable? Can I use this cable? to somehow download the bootloader?
Hi,
use this Method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1456200
This will work on my boot loader? Even with an SPL with 5.1.2.2250.0?
To close the loop, I used a goldcard image with the RUU_Gold_HTC_Europe_1.22.401.01_Radio_5.63.09.13_3a_22.36.50.15U_by_ansar.zip to create the GOLDIMG.nbh to downgrade the firmware.
Was a bit finicky, but eventually it took the update.
Next to install a custom rom...
Update: Trying to install RSPL and HSPL, but no luck
Does the DFT tool work on these devices? I've tried to go through the 126 page DFT thread (below) but no really confirmation
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
If anyone can help this would be great!
Moving right along... Got the HSPL flashed. Had to use another PC.
The original PC I used was a VMWARE workstation with Windows XP, which did not detect the device.
Used a physical Win7 Laptop, everything worked just fine.
Now onto a custom firmware....
Hmm, tried to flash Dynamics v2.0, but it needs a special radio version.
I got the radio, but not sure how to flash it, can someone help explain how to do this with RUU?
Thanks.
Hi dustbyter
are you still interested in this topic? I just did the same on my HTC 7 Pro T7576

Hello,
I have been given a HTC 7 Pro T7576, Windows Phone 7.8, OS version: 7.10.8858.136, firmware rev. no. 2250.21.51101.401, hardware rev. no. 0002, radio software version 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U, radio hardware version A.102.0.D4, Bootloader version 5.11.2250.0, chip SOC version 2.2.5.0
I love everything but the OS of this phone.
I am a total newbie at mobile OS but have 10 years experience with Slackware linux.
Please help me out with detailed instructions to replace Windows Phone with Android on HTC 7 Pro.
Thank you!

I second this. Windows Phone 7 is a dead-end street. Therefore, nobody even cooks ROMs for these phones any more (the newest ones I could find are from 2013).
That's pretty bad since otherwise, the HTC 7 Pro is a good phone - I love its keyboard as my fingers do not seem to be compatible to touch screens
It was possible to port Android to legacy devices like the HTC HD2. Wouldn't it be possible to do that for the HTC 7 Pro, too? That would be, I think, the greatest thing since sliced bread
Kind regards,
DAC324
