[Q] downgrading wp7 - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys,
i've got the samsung omnia w gti8350 and i installed the latest update including kk2, but now i havn't the phone either unlocked nor i have a backup.
i downloaded the full mango build 7720 rtm and the wp7 update cab sender. when i wanted to "update" actually downgrade, the anser was no cab was required. the phone doesn't let me downgrade to mango!
is there a possible answer how i can downgrade it or how i can uninstall kk2 without having a backup?
thanks for your attention
daniel

I'd ask what you did with your backup, but it's probably too late for that now.
You need a ROM flashing tool, not a CAB sender (which is used for updates, not full ROMs). I know that ROM flashing utilities exist for the first-gen Samsung phones, and would assume that either they can be used with second-gen or you can find one that works. The tool used for HTC (like I have) is called ROM Update Utility, commonly abbreviated RUU.
You may want to look in device-specific parts of the forum. Also, just for the record, do you mind posting your firmware version info (from Settings -> About -> More Info)? People are constantly asking how to check for the KK2 version, and it would be good to have a number I could point to and say "if it's at least this high, you need to downgrade."

Here we go,this is what i got after the update:
Firmware revision number 7.10.8107.79
Hardware revision number 23.15.0.8
Radio software version 2424.11.12.1
Radio hardware version 0.0.0.800
Bootloader version 6.1.2.0
Hope it helps, since update i was unable to unlock using windowbreak.

Ive got the versions, only the bootloader is different: 5.12.29.0
@GoodDayToDie: would it be possible to use the ROM Update Utility to flash my omnia w?
Daniel

I don't know; ROM flashing isn't my thing (I'm still on a stock ROM). I strongly suggest you go look at the Omnia [7] forum, if you can't find an Omnia W forum, and ask how to re-flash the ROM. Alternatively, you could try searching (using Google/Bing, since the forum's search tool is down). You could also look at the XDA-Devs wiki; a lot of this sort of info is stored there.

Here you are
OS: Windows Phone 7.5
Date: 2011 November
PDA: I8350XXKK4
CSC: I8350PLSKK4
Download: Click HERE
This ROM is from Poland, unfortunately it's the only ROM I could find for your phone. Anyway this shouldn't give you any kind of problem.
How to flash:
- Extract the archive
- Open the folder Downloader and run WP7_Downloader_Ver_3.8_for_Secure_and_SMD_change_Parttiton_and_Support_Retail_binary.exe as Administrator
- Click on PDA and choose PDA_I8350XXKK4_REV0.nb0
- Click on CSC and choose CSC_I8350PLSKK4.csc
- Click on Phone and choose PHONE_WEMBLEY_16002402_open_KK1_rev00_RC1.bin
- Click on Eboot and choose EBOOT_I8350XXKK4_REV0.eb0
- Put your phone in Download Mode (Turn it off and press Volume Up Key + Camera Key + Power).
- Plug in your phone, wait until the program finds the phone and then click Start
If the program doesn't find the Phone, then you need to install Samsung USB Drivers: Download HERE

hey AshleyT
i tried all you said exactly that order but nothing worked:
picture as attachment
Have i made a mistake?

Uhm... Everything seems correct
Try these USB drivers:
Samsung USB Driver v1.3.2300
Uninstall the old ones before installing these!
Also, I found another revision on that firmware, if you have the same error with the new drivers, try with this other one:
http://hotfile.com/dl/142699209/c6a2bc7/I8350XXKK4_XEKK4_SERKK4.rar.html

i have samsung omnia w with frmware v7720 and diagonisis ver 1109 in which the window break method does not get applied...so for this reason i want to downgrade my phone...is possible to use windows support tool for downgrading to earlier windows ver i.e. NoDO because i dont have any backup of it so i cant even reterive it with zune

i've now tested the new drivers and the new rom that you posted.
It seems not to work! Same problem as before, no way out! I think samsung provided with kk2 an update that blocks all possibilities to "hack" this phone.

2nd gen devices (like Omnia W) can't be downgraded to NoDo because they didn't even exist before Mango!
Anyway 7720 is the OS version, not the firmware.
You can always try the ROM that I posted above and see if you're able to apply WindowBreak on it

Well, my Samsung Omnia 7 also received KK2 update which blocked the possibility to use WindowBreak, but I was able to flash even a custom ROM, so I don't really think that the problem is realted to the firmware.
Are you sure that you're in bootloader mode?
You can also try the procedure on another computer, but I don't know what else I could suggest you, because I didn't have any problem on my Omnia 7!

Are the bootloader mode and the download mode the same? First you mentioned i've to go to the download mode (vol. up + cam. + power).
If that's true i am in the right mode.

I'm interested in downgrade my Omnia W too. I found this. I hope that it helps, but i think, that it's only for upgrade...

Can i make a custom frimware for 2nd gen devices???

Since you'd need to unlock the bootloader before you could install it, a custom firmware for gen2 phones isn't yet a useful project...

So i tried it with later drivers and Poland Firmware and it seems that it doesn't works.. Still the same firmware.

@WooDoo.CZ: don't you forget to ckeck the checkboxes from PDA, Phone, Eboot & Phone Boot. Unless you check these, i think it won't send any files to your wp7 device...

Sorry boys. So I did it again and now i checked it. And same problem as you had.
edit:
I found this. Anybody should try it. I don't have time right now.

i tried now what you found. For me it didn't seem to work! Error: md5 checksumm not valid for both of the roms mentioned before in this threat.

Hmm, so I tried it too, and i had error: This is a unknown binary.. So what next?

[Q] Update Mango fails every time

Today Zune prompted that the update is available so I started the update. It fails every time I try to update my phone :-(
I am already om 7720 but still Zune (and my Phone) pop up the update message.
I even did a full reset of my phone but still the update fails.
At step 5 it stays on 0% and the phone restarts.
Then step 6 and 7 (installing updates) ... again the reboot ..
Message on the phone:
Update Unsuccesfull
Unfortunately , we weren't able to update your phone. Refer to the Zune software or Mac Connector on your computer to find out what happened. Or if your're already closed this software, go to windowsphone.com for guidance.
See attached pictures.
Error code which I get is: 8018001E.
Need Help!
If you already did a full reset you can as well roll back to NoDo from your backup and try from an offically support version (7392).
How do I roll back?

Friend, if you have to ask this question, then I'm wondering if you truly knew what you were doing.

Ok, I used to get this error when I tried to update my firmware by changing my carrier code using Samsung Registry editor. As it turns out, Samsung firmwares are kinda locked to carriers. I tried Tmobile, Orange but the firmware would not install, getting the same error code as you did.
I had to wait for Samsung to release the firmware for my carrier.
Did you do anything to your LG phone? Like changing carrier code? If you did, you'll have to change it back.
Seems to be pretty common problem for LG E900: answers .microsoft .com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp7-sync/lg-e900-update-error-code-8018001e/1ec8d54d-0ee8-4db6-ab62-4ca26b3fbbe7?page=1&tm=1317157055038
(can't post links yet)
I'm experiencing it too... ;/
Ok, I will chech the link later.
Thanks!
Hmmm
I think I figured out what is going on. Apparently Mango needs the latest firmware from LG to be installed on the phone. This was given to branded phones but not to unlocked/unbranded phones like mine, a few months back. With the firmware update the LG Optimus 7 will jump from:
Firmware Rev 1.0.7.10
Hardware Rev 1.0.0.0
Radio Software 1.0.7.10
Radio Hardware 0.3.5.0
Bootloader Ver 1.5.0.0
Chip SOC 0.30.2.0
to:
Firmware Rev 1.0.10.10
Hardware Rev 1.0.0.0
Radio Software 1.0.10.10
Radio Hardware 0.3.5.0
Bootloader Ver 1.5.1.0
Chip SOC 0.30.2.0
People who successfully updated their LG E900 to Mango already had that phone, from the little research I have been doing in the past few hours. So all we need is the firmware update from LG to be installed and I am hoping that this will allow us to go ahead and install Mango.

[Q] How to update diagnosis?

Hi, my samsung omnia 7 (7740) has 0.628 as diagnosis menĂ¹. Interop unlock doesn't work with that. How can I update my diagnosis app?
If you read the Interop Unlock thread, I'm pretty sure it has directions. If you doa search, I *know* there are directions. If you instead make a new thread about it, you may get snarky answers.
That said, just un-installing Diagnostics from the app list, then re-installing it using the phone dialer, will install the new version (assuming your firmware has been updated to a new version since you installed it before).
Maybe i made a new thread because this doesn't work? I'm on 8107 now and diagnosis 0.628 installed again. I'm going back to 7740, but I don't find a solution to update diagnosis.
Well, if you want people to assume you've read the relevant info, it's a good idea to mention the things that somebody who has read it (and still can't update) would have told us, like:
A) The fact that you actually tried the standard update method already.
B) The steps you took and the result of them.
C) What firmware (*not* OS, firmware!) version your phone has.
That said, if the standard method doesn't work for you, I can't really help here. You could try a custom ROM if nothing else is working, I guess...
Firmware : 2424.11.11.2
Hardware: 3.15.0.4
Radio : 2424.11.9.1
Hardware radio : 0.0.0.800
Bootloader : 5.11.1.8
SOC: 0.36.2.0
I don't like custom rom for now, it's v1 and still not full stable..waiting..

[Q] Samsung Omnia W (update 8107) and ICS

Hello,
I have a Samsung Omnia W interop unlocked before getting the latest update from zune.
I am trying to get internet sharing through this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334248
but when I type the *#0998# code in the diagnosis app, no list comes, so I cannot proceed further with the guide.
Here are my phone software versions:
SO: 7.10.8107.79
firmware: 2424.11.12.5
hardware: 23.15.0.8
software radio: 2424.11.12.1
hardware radio: 0.0.0.800
bootloader: 5.12.29.0
processore SOC: 0.74.2.1
Can anyone help me getting ICS on my phone ?
Thanks a lot.
ICS?????
what's that mean
ICS: Internet Connection Sharing. It's OK though, there's absolutley no possible way you could have figured that out from the link in the OP, and nobody has ever used that acronym for the feature before... </sarcasm>
It sounds like you either updated your firmware or your DIAG app since you interop-unlocked the phone. If it was a firmware update, you'll need to roll back or you'll need to wait until somebody writes a tool that allows you to process the provxml file using Root Unlock (I assume you have WP7 Root Tools). If you updated the app itself (via Marketplace), uninstall it and then re-install it using the phone dialer.

Thanks a lot for the uninstalling Diagnosis tip!
I did i and now I can see again the list of things, also windowbreak is there.
So, I will try the guide from scratch this evening at home and let you know.
Thanks a lot for taking time to help me, its really appreciated.

Hello,
I tried but the "System tweaks" does not show up in the list, so I am unable to go ahead...
Any clues ?
You probably installed a Samsung firmware update (see the other item in my list of reasons why it wouldn't work). If your firmware version is KK2 or newer, you won't be able to use those hacks. Roll the phone back if you want to use it.
Alternatively, these are just provxml files. WP7 Root Tools won't currently process them for you directly, but it's pretty easy to write an app that will do so for you if it has WP7 Root Tool "trusted" elevation via policy.
Thanks,
atm I think that I will try to look inside the provxml files which enables ICS and try to manually edit my phone registry to see if it works. It seems to me the most reasonabe way, also because all those provxml are built for Omnia 7 while I own an Omnia W.

[Q]Samsung Omina w

Hello everyone....
I just brough a samsung omnia w last week.....It is very nice phone
I want to install XAP files in my devices...What i have to do for doing this??
Please kindly someone give step by step procedure....???
Look up WindowBreak and follow the instructions given there. It's pretty straightforward.
Note that if you don't get the WindowBreak option in the GRS menu (you'll know what I mean if this happens) and you followed the steps correctly, your firmware version is too new. If you installed an update efter getting the phone, you should restore the backup of your phone's original state that was automatically created (the restore button is in the Zune PC software under Settings -> Phone -> Update). Then do the WindowBreak steps again.

hello sir...
I do same process for downgrade my firmware...But again there is no windowsbreak option in GPS menu....Now what to do?
What's your current firmware version (*#1234# in Diagnostics)? If your firmware is still too new, you're out of luck until a new unlock hack is found, or a tool for flashing a stock ROM to a gen2 Samsung phone is found, or the Samsung gen2 bootloader is unlocked and custom ROMs become available.

Hello sir....Please check it...
I believe KK7 is known to not work. You could try running the WindowBreak steps again with a cleanly re-installed Diagnostics app (delete it from the app list and re-install from the dialer) but I'm pretty sure your firmware version is still too high. The firmware change prevents the GPRS view from showing files in the \provxml filder.

Flash AT&T Focus Flash back to stock for Tango...?

So I used the disconnect internet trick and got Tango to install on my phone. Problem is, it stopped with the 3 updates and did not install (or find) the Samsung one that I know was supposed to be installed (for firmware), so my firmware is now 2103.11.10.1 instead of what it is supposed to be.
Does anyone know a way to force the OEM firmware to be sent to Zune. The internet disconnect trick isn't work now, so I'm stuck. Also, my backups aren't showing up, even though during the update process it said it was creating a backup (for all the OS updates it installed all the way up to 8773).
If there is no way to get the OEM firmware to be pushed, does anyone know how to get the Focus Flash to stock? I know I have a backup on my computer, but Zune isn't recognizing it (I had forced 8107 on my phone, and Zune made a backup of that ROM).
I just updated to Tango using the cab sender on my Focus Flash. Everything worked fine. My firmware ver. is the same as yours. It has been that rev since as far as i can remember. I don't think there is a firmware newer than that for the Focus Flash.
Firmware is 2103.11.10.1
OS ver is 7.10.8773.98

Someone at wpcentral posted this for their Focus Flash:
Look like Firmware Update, Radio Software, BootLoader
Firmware Revision 2103.12.05.04
Hardware Revision Number 23.1.0.8
Radio Software Version: 2103.12.5.4
Radio Hardware Version: 0.0.0.6
BootLoader Version 6.5.17.0
Chip SOC Version 0.74.21.1
So there must be one out there (plus, everyone else has been receiving firmware updates, like Nokia, so I can't see Samsung not making one).
Since you used the debrand trick to update to 8107, you'll most likely have to reset your phone to get the Samsung update. I did the same thing & then did the cab send method to update to 8773. Didn't have any problems. Kept trying to get the Samsung update via the disconnect trick. No luck. As soon as I reset my phone, it popped right up. I'm installing it now. Good luck.
