[Q] How to update diagnosis? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, my samsung omnia 7 (7740) has 0.628 as diagnosis menù. Interop unlock doesn't work with that. How can I update my diagnosis app?

If you read the Interop Unlock thread, I'm pretty sure it has directions. If you doa search, I *know* there are directions. If you instead make a new thread about it, you may get snarky answers.
That said, just un-installing Diagnostics from the app list, then re-installing it using the phone dialer, will install the new version (assuming your firmware has been updated to a new version since you installed it before).

Maybe i made a new thread because this doesn't work? I'm on 8107 now and diagnosis 0.628 installed again. I'm going back to 7740, but I don't find a solution to update diagnosis.

Well, if you want people to assume you've read the relevant info, it's a good idea to mention the things that somebody who has read it (and still can't update) would have told us, like:
A) The fact that you actually tried the standard update method already.
B) The steps you took and the result of them.
C) What firmware (*not* OS, firmware!) version your phone has.
That said, if the standard method doesn't work for you, I can't really help here. You could try a custom ROM if nothing else is working, I guess...

Firmware : 2424.11.11.2
Hardware: 3.15.0.4
Radio : 2424.11.9.1
Hardware radio : 0.0.0.800
Bootloader : 5.11.1.8
SOC: 0.36.2.0
I don't like custom rom for now, it's v1 and still not full stable..waiting..

[Q] Samsung Omnia 7 - Interop Unlock

Hi there,
I don't have the right to reply on the relative subject, so I ask my question right here.
I would like to submit a feedback regarding this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963
I have a Samsung Omnia 7 (SIM unlocked) and I tried to unlock my device.
The previous procedure is fine, really amazing, but this morning I received a "samsung update" and I choosed to install it.
Unfortunately, since this update, the interop-lock don't work anymore.
I'm able through "Diagnosis" to choose and then save the "Interop-lock" profile which break my 3G configuration.
Then I launch "3G repair" and my connection works again like a charm.
But my device seems to be locked again because I'm not able to install any application even this one: "Interop Unlock by Heathcliff74 v2.xap" which have been deleted after the mango update (Microsoft has revoked this application..)
Do you have an idea of what's happening on my device?
Thanks by advance for your help!

Another Samsung Omnia 7 unlocking problem
Hi,
I am encountering problems when trying to unlock Samsung Omnia 7
device with steps mentioned in HeathCliff74's post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963
Device has following configuration:
- Developer unlocked
- OS ver: 7.10.7740.16
- Firmware ver: 2424.11.11.2
- HW ver: 3.15.0.4
- Radio s/w ver: 24.11.9.1
According to the steps, after updating the device to Mango, I removed the Samsung Diagnosis app and got it's latest version. This app shows the version as 0628 and when ##9908# is dialled there, it doesn't show the interop unlock app there.
Please let me know how I can unlock this device for native development. Thanks!

You have installed the Samsung KK2 update. The thread you refer to already describes the issue. I recommend trying to restore a backup from before the KK2 update. Then apply Interop Unlock. After that you can apply the KK2 update if you want.
Good luck,
Heathcliff74
so if you update to the kk2 update it will wipe off the interop????

No, it's important to just make a interop unlock before KK2 update because after this is not possible.
Let someone correct me if I'm wrong
Anyone know if a new interop unlock is being made for samsung phones that already have the latest updates? (like mine )
People are attempting it, but the best bet right now is to roll back to earlier firmware, either by using a backup or by flashing an older ROM. Alternatively, since you're on a gen1 phone, you could flash a custom ROM.

[Q] Possible to restore my backups after flashing a custom rom?

I want to Interop-unlock my Trophy and from the treads i read i need a custom for that. But can i still restore my current backups after installing a custom rom?
I've installed stock ROM in the past which changed the backup folder name (C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update\xxxxxxxx - xxxxxxxx - xxxxxxxx - xxxxxxxx) and i couldn't restore my backups
I personally have never been able to get a backup to successfully retake on the phone I took the backup from. Your mileage may vary but I don't think it works.
You can interop-unlock a Trophy (or almost any other HTC first-gen phone) if your firmware version isn't too high. Just rolling back the version should be enough to do that.
However, to answer your question, no you can't restore a (Zune) backup into a custom ROM, not without losing the custom ROM. The backup includes the ROM image, and restoring it completely wipes the phone and restores it exactly as it was before, ROM included.
Can i interop-unlock with Mango or do i have to roll back to NoDo? My phone is dev-unlocked btw.
My current OS version: 7.10.7720.68
I said your Firmware version, not your OS version. However, if you're still on 7720, there's a decent chance (but not a guarantee) that you're OK.
Did you even *try* looking at the official interop-unlock thread under dev&hacking? It's almost always on the first page, very easy to find by search, and linked from the sticky thread at the top. It does require dev-unlock, but you have that...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963
Yes trust me i know where the seach button is, tried everything going back to NoDo and follow ansar's guide - also tried your interlop hack.
I believe i should be OK as long as my bootloader is 4.6.
I read your comment in another tread about interop-unlock and full unlock correct me if im wrong, i need to flash the bootloader with a custom bootloader before my phone becomes fully unlocked? And is it even possible to be fully unlocked with stock ROM?
My bad don't know why i wrote the OS version, here is the phone info:
OS version: 7.10.7720.68
Firmware revision number: 2250.09.16907.401
Hardware revision number: 0003
Radio software version: 5.69.09.05a_22.50.50.21U
Radio hardware version: A.102.0.D4
Bootloader version: 4.6.2250.0(129185)
Chip SOC version: 2.2.5.0
Did you try Heathcliff74's app? It uses the same hack as mine but works on more phones; I don't even know why I left my XAP up. I don't know how Ansar's stuff works, which means I don't entirely trust it, but people have reported it working... Of course, he's published enough different things that "ansar's guide" could be any of several procedures.
Your firmware version is surprisingly low for a first-gen phone; I'd expect Heathcliff74's interop-unlock to work just fine. Note that if it's a Verizon Trophy (hybrid GSM/CDMA) there's a few additional steps you'll need to take, which are available in Heathcliff74's "official" interop-unlock thread as well.
SPL (bootloader) 4.6 is too high to install HSPL (required for a custom ROM) directly, but is somewhat easier to downgrade than 5.x (which typically requires a goldcard or similar shenanigans). if you want to use a custom ROM, though, you'll certainly be able to get full unlock.
I'm personally working on a full-unlock for stock ROMs, based on my HtcRoot project. It will require interop-unlock (or NoDo) and at least temporarily downgrading to an outdited firmware, though (2250.*.3XXXX.* works on my HD7).
Yes also tried Heathcliff74's app, but i gave it a try again and it seems to be interop unlocked now. I uninstalled HTC Connection Setup and Heathcliff74's app then restartet the phone which i didn't do the many times before!! After reinstalling the apps it worked!
Does the low firmware ver. mean anything?
Sounds good, looking forwards it
Low firmware version just usually means that your phone's HTC drivers that are used for high-privilege apps (like TouchXplorer, Advanced Config, etc.) haven't yet been crippled. In this case, it's a good thing. However, different phones use different version numbers for the same level of functionality in their firmware, so comparing yours and mine doesn't necessarily mean anything.
You shouldn't have had to either uninstall Connection Setup nor reboot the phone, but I'm glad you got your interop-unlock working!

[Q] downgrading wp7

hey guys,
i've got the samsung omnia w gti8350 and i installed the latest update including kk2, but now i havn't the phone either unlocked nor i have a backup.
i downloaded the full mango build 7720 rtm and the wp7 update cab sender. when i wanted to "update" actually downgrade, the anser was no cab was required. the phone doesn't let me downgrade to mango!
is there a possible answer how i can downgrade it or how i can uninstall kk2 without having a backup?
thanks for your attention
daniel
I'd ask what you did with your backup, but it's probably too late for that now.
You need a ROM flashing tool, not a CAB sender (which is used for updates, not full ROMs). I know that ROM flashing utilities exist for the first-gen Samsung phones, and would assume that either they can be used with second-gen or you can find one that works. The tool used for HTC (like I have) is called ROM Update Utility, commonly abbreviated RUU.
You may want to look in device-specific parts of the forum. Also, just for the record, do you mind posting your firmware version info (from Settings -> About -> More Info)? People are constantly asking how to check for the KK2 version, and it would be good to have a number I could point to and say "if it's at least this high, you need to downgrade."
Here we go,this is what i got after the update:
Firmware revision number 7.10.8107.79
Hardware revision number 23.15.0.8
Radio software version 2424.11.12.1
Radio hardware version 0.0.0.800
Bootloader version 6.1.2.0
Hope it helps, since update i was unable to unlock using windowbreak.

@GoodDayToDie: would it be possible to use the ROM Update Utility to flash my omnia w?
Daniel
I don't know; ROM flashing isn't my thing (I'm still on a stock ROM). I strongly suggest you go look at the Omnia [7] forum, if you can't find an Omnia W forum, and ask how to re-flash the ROM. Alternatively, you could try searching (using Google/Bing, since the forum's search tool is down). You could also look at the XDA-Devs wiki; a lot of this sort of info is stored there.
Here you are
OS: Windows Phone 7.5
Date: 2011 November
PDA: I8350XXKK4
CSC: I8350PLSKK4
Download: Click HERE
This ROM is from Poland, unfortunately it's the only ROM I could find for your phone. Anyway this shouldn't give you any kind of problem.
How to flash:
- Extract the archive
- Open the folder Downloader and run WP7_Downloader_Ver_3.8_for_Secure_and_SMD_change_Parttiton_and_Support_Retail_binary.exe as Administrator
- Click on PDA and choose PDA_I8350XXKK4_REV0.nb0
- Click on CSC and choose CSC_I8350PLSKK4.csc
- Click on Phone and choose PHONE_WEMBLEY_16002402_open_KK1_rev00_RC1.bin
- Click on Eboot and choose EBOOT_I8350XXKK4_REV0.eb0
- Put your phone in Download Mode (Turn it off and press Volume Up Key + Camera Key + Power).
- Plug in your phone, wait until the program finds the phone and then click Start
If the program doesn't find the Phone, then you need to install Samsung USB Drivers: Download HERE
hey AshleyT
i tried all you said exactly that order but nothing worked:
picture as attachment
Have i made a mistake?
Uhm... Everything seems correct
Try these USB drivers:
Samsung USB Driver v1.3.2300
Uninstall the old ones before installing these!
Also, I found another revision on that firmware, if you have the same error with the new drivers, try with this other one:
http://hotfile.com/dl/142699209/c6a2bc7/I8350XXKK4_XEKK4_SERKK4.rar.html
i have samsung omnia w with frmware v7720 and diagonisis ver 1109 in which the window break method does not get applied...so for this reason i want to downgrade my phone...is possible to use windows support tool for downgrading to earlier windows ver i.e. NoDO because i dont have any backup of it so i cant even reterive it with zune
i've now tested the new drivers and the new rom that you posted.
It seems not to work! Same problem as before, no way out! I think samsung provided with kk2 an update that blocks all possibilities to "hack" this phone.
2nd gen devices (like Omnia W) can't be downgraded to NoDo because they didn't even exist before Mango!
Anyway 7720 is the OS version, not the firmware.
You can always try the ROM that I posted above and see if you're able to apply WindowBreak on it

Well, my Samsung Omnia 7 also received KK2 update which blocked the possibility to use WindowBreak, but I was able to flash even a custom ROM, so I don't really think that the problem is realted to the firmware.
Are you sure that you're in bootloader mode?
You can also try the procedure on another computer, but I don't know what else I could suggest you, because I didn't have any problem on my Omnia 7!

Are the bootloader mode and the download mode the same? First you mentioned i've to go to the download mode (vol. up + cam. + power).
If that's true i am in the right mode.
I'm interested in downgrade my Omnia W too. I found this. I hope that it helps, but i think, that it's only for upgrade...
Can i make a custom frimware for 2nd gen devices???
Since you'd need to unlock the bootloader before you could install it, a custom firmware for gen2 phones isn't yet a useful project...
So i tried it with later drivers and Poland Firmware and it seems that it doesn't works.. Still the same firmware.
@WooDoo.CZ: don't you forget to ckeck the checkboxes from PDA, Phone, Eboot & Phone Boot. Unless you check these, i think it won't send any files to your wp7 device...
Sorry boys. So I did it again and now i checked it. And same problem as you had.
edit:
I found this. Anybody should try it. I don't have time right now.

i tried now what you found. For me it didn't seem to work! Error: md5 checksumm not valid for both of the roms mentioned before in this threat.
Hmm, so I tried it too, and i had error: This is a unknown binary.. So what next?

Flash AT&T Focus Flash back to stock for Tango...?

So I used the disconnect internet trick and got Tango to install on my phone. Problem is, it stopped with the 3 updates and did not install (or find) the Samsung one that I know was supposed to be installed (for firmware), so my firmware is now 2103.11.10.1 instead of what it is supposed to be.
Does anyone know a way to force the OEM firmware to be sent to Zune. The internet disconnect trick isn't work now, so I'm stuck. Also, my backups aren't showing up, even though during the update process it said it was creating a backup (for all the OS updates it installed all the way up to 8773).
If there is no way to get the OEM firmware to be pushed, does anyone know how to get the Focus Flash to stock? I know I have a backup on my computer, but Zune isn't recognizing it (I had forced 8107 on my phone, and Zune made a backup of that ROM).
I just updated to Tango using the cab sender on my Focus Flash. Everything worked fine. My firmware ver. is the same as yours. It has been that rev since as far as i can remember. I don't think there is a firmware newer than that for the Focus Flash.
Firmware is 2103.11.10.1
OS ver is 7.10.8773.98

Someone at wpcentral posted this for their Focus Flash:
Look like Firmware Update, Radio Software, BootLoader
Firmware Revision 2103.12.05.04
Hardware Revision Number 23.1.0.8
Radio Software Version: 2103.12.5.4
Radio Hardware Version: 0.0.0.6
BootLoader Version 6.5.17.0
Chip SOC Version 0.74.21.1
So there must be one out there (plus, everyone else has been receiving firmware updates, like Nokia, so I can't see Samsung not making one).
Since you used the debrand trick to update to 8107, you'll most likely have to reset your phone to get the Samsung update. I did the same thing & then did the cab send method to update to 8773. Didn't have any problems. Kept trying to get the Samsung update via the disconnect trick. No luck. As soon as I reset my phone, it popped right up. I'm installing it now. Good luck.

[SOLVED] Omnia 7 Update fail

Well... I have a strange issue... but on the other hand I feel I´m not alone. However it´s kind of messy trying to get a full picture from XDA how to get around my problem.
I have a 3-branded Omnia 7 with the following info:
OS 7.10.7720.68
Firmware 2424.11.9.1
Hardware 3.15.0.4
Radio Software 24.24.11.9.1
Radio Hardware 0.0.0.800
Bootloader 5.9.0.6
Chip SOC 0.36.2.0
My issue... well Zune keeps telling me Update 7740.16 is available (iI guess the Tango will come after that update, right?). I let Zune update but it comes back as a failure "error 80180048". Ok, so I tried to update using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306415
I got all files downloaded (lang files for each update... ) and it started ok... but after installation it came back with the same error as via Zune.
I tried to make a hard reset to eliminate the possibility that the unlock (rootacces) had anything to do with it... same problem.
As I understand I should go back to the Samsung Omnia 7 version as it came in the box, right? After that letting Zune handle the complete update from scratch? Well... how do I do that? I have found som threads but I´m not really sure witch one to use...
Can someone please give me some directions to get this to work? What files do I need and how do I restore the phone to it´s original state? (in the box-state).
I bought the phone secondhand since I use 3 (Three) in Sweden. I have had NO problem with it at all... But I get soooo anoyed with Zune telling me to update... so I thought "What the heck!?"...
Well... I guess I sorted it myself... followed the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11713948&postcount=1
I have to admit I was really uncomfortable doing this... But after getting the correct files downloaded it was really easy. The phone downgraded to the first version of Windows Phone 7... I screamed out loud when I saw the old green round Windowslogo... but after a couple og updates via Zune Mango was installed... the the updates rolled on and now I´m on the latest release. I feel quite happy since I don´t have to do this when WP 7.8 arrives this fall.
