[Q] Is ADW Launcher EX working properly on the Note? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Themes and Apps

Hi, anyone here able to confirm if it's working properly on the Note? I am kinda concerned if the resolution will affect ADW EX...

Works fine except coming from sgs2 the adw on note is a tad laggier when swiping screen i think cuz it aint optmised yet. Especially whem u start putting a hell of a lot of widgets on it. It was irritating enuf for me i reverted back to the stock t wiz. That said apparently other home screen replscements GO included seem to be having the same problem
. Gotta wait for some custom roms cuz it coukd be stock rom issue

I try to use adw in my note
Oops...
Very lag
Not smooth

Aww shucks, I depend on ADW EX for my heavy usage of scrolling widgets, I guess I gotta wait for jb to fix it.

Oh god ADW EX is totally broken on the Note.

I seem to be following a path similar to many on this forum: Dell Streak, SGS2, Galaxy Note.
I've also noticed that ADW EX is laggy compared to SGS2.
Its interesting that SPB Shell 3D runs virtually the same on the Note and the SGS2. I think its probably because Shell 3D has a better graphics engine than ADW EX and can handle the higher resolution better. Now that I'm used to it I actually like SPB Shell 3D a little better. The folders are much better and allow you to see what's in them. The widgets are also much slicker and nice. Plus, I don't have to go to 3rd party widgets for contacts, bookmarks and calendar and I can use all the Samsung widgets too.

SPB shell can't use scrolling widgets. I love my scrolling widgets too much to give up that functionality. Anyone else got a better option with support for scrolling widgets?

You using ADW EX too? Everything looks wrong on mine, it's running in tablet mode and despite uninstalling it and wiping it, I still can't get it to look right. Trying out Go Launcher EX now. It's a little laggy, but I guess I can live with it for now.

using a launcher pro solve my prob.

ADW Ex has an issue with cutoff bottom with mine

Go Launcher is probably the best you can get with nearly 10+ widgets or so.
A must free have!

That the update for Go Launcher EX on the 16th, fixed the scaling issues for the Note. Looks very good, but still the lag remains.

I just install the latest version and it seems that some strange bugs remain, like option menu wrongly resized... but my main problem is that i'm not able to resize menu icons... it is possible for desktop but not for menu icons... and they are very very small... can we do anything about that? did I miss some trick?

I'd really love to switch to Go Launcher, but even under the new version the lagging is still too noticeable. Plus I'm actually getting quite attached to Samsung's calendar widget, which only seems to work under TouchWiz.
Apparently there's another update to Go Launcher coming out next week - hopefully they'll get the lag sorted out as I can't see any reason why the performance on the Note shouldn't be absolutely stunning......

there is something quite odd about go launcher
When i installed it on my S2 the first time, it lagged like hell during transition. After switching over to the LP and finding out that it didn't support gmail unread email count, i switched back to go launcher. Same setup as previous installation but 0 lag

compatible launchers.....

stuntdouble has created a great list of apps, games and utilities but how about a thread for honeycomb compatible launchers ?
one of the things i love about android is the ability to use custom launchers .... however not many seem to work on honeycomb.
might be worth keeping this list separate though as launchers tend to evolve more.
starting the list then -
Launcher Pro - seems to work very well and seems to be nicely tweaked for HC.
VTL launcher - i believe this is being built specifically for HC and seems to be a nice start.
anyone found any others ?
list starts here ..

also waiting for a Regina launcher tablet version as ive a soft spot for it on my phone

i just figured that compatible launchers would just be a slow burn thread
I added a couple a while ago, but tbh I don't really care much for them personally. Not really all that many updated for honeycomb. I think the fact that the default launcher works just fine has put off most developers.

Def disagree with that post. 3.1 launcher is still laggy as hell. Adw ex is super smooth. Also adw ex is updated for honeycomb with hdpi icon hack and graphic acceleration.
Can someone post a pic of launcher pro?

I am using lp at the moment and like the widgets, animations and customisation. Adw does much the same.

Well you're entitled to your opinion ofc, but I don't get any lag with it on mine in 3.0.1. I'd say you've been installing badly coded apps that have made it laggy tbh if you had it bad in 3.0.1 as well. Don't know about 3.1 yet, will see tomorrow though.

apart from that im finding ADW works great on the transformer. Would quite like to see whether the Regina Launcher dev manages a port - and the SPB UI looks fantastic ! ive you havent seen it i suggest a view on youtube !!

Best launcher for galaxy tab running gingerbread

I am looking for best launcher for tab. I installed 3 of them launcher pro, launcher 7 and golauncher.
Launcher pro is good, but need to pay for its widgets. No crashes till now.
Launcher 7 is good but very less home screen options. No crashing but sometime slow to start home screen.
I am highly upset with golauncher, i make my home screen staying whole night, adding widgets shortcuts but when i woke up in morning one of three home screen was lost with all content! !!
I made it again and later find out two two home screen collaspe and became ONE! overlapping apps.
Golauncher has more option than launcher pro, widgets are free to but it crashes everytime, is there any way to fix it ?
Or any other best launcher?

i can only agree with ganj...
i use it for quite a time now and no probs with ...fast and smooth
I use launcher pro, only because of the sexy theme-able widgets
I've run LauncherPro since it was in Alpha, and I can testify to it's performance, both on my Tab and my OG Droid. I love the ability to skin the widgets, and even though it's been a looooong time coming, Fede is rewriting the entire launcher code in order to enhance performance. ADW EX does have benefits though, especially with things like being able to move the app drawer out of the dock, and onto the homescreen. Being able to remove the dock is cool as well. The major issue I had with EX, was with widget resizing and overlapping... I could just never get it to work as well as LP. Either way though, you can't go wrong. They're both great launchers.
ADW Launcher for free is smooth and quite customizable. The EX version is hands down the best, and it's cheap.
And there's VTL.Launcher too
I use Go Launcher Ex and no problem with, for me it's the best, free, many theme for free and you know that widget free also....

Yup. Adw ex is my fall back launcher. Its the one I end up running on most kernel and rom combos. Open home, based on Adw too I believe, is fantastic too. Great customization and a solid feel bit its a limitless over priced, its confusing about the whole 5/6 thing and it seems wrong to have a commercial launcher called "open" is a bit cynical. It might be just my setup but I also had battery issues from it.
My latest favourite is actually GO launcher with weather and task manager widget and am running go SMS too. Just realised I never even installed Adw when I last flashed.. hmm well there you go. Been a good solid few days with no issues at all and thinking about it I've had no lag, good battery and yeah forgot I was even running it if that makes sense. Free is free too afterall and the only real complaint is the limited premium themes but there are loads of free ones, some quite nice too.

Go Launcher EX. So far it shows the best perf and usability combination for me on both froyo and gb.
BTW, I am willing to switch to TW4 if I can see a good perf (not yet, at least with Overcome GB Gold).
@gandroid and all who thinks ADWlauncher is good, i am preety pissed of with it. I bought without trying its free version now they will not make refunds.
I even cant figure out how to add awd widgets , it just takes me to market where there is option to buy only. Is there any free widgets and themes that comes with it or we have to buy everything. I dont want to pay more for launcher only.
I bought launcher pro also, which has itself free widgets. Its worth of 3 somthing dollar.
Somebody please tell me either i dont know how to use adw or it doesnt have any widgets.

I use VTL.Launcher, its a fork of ADW designed for Tablets. Brilliant launcher imo, a LOT of customisability and options, and not exactly expensive either.
I prefer the Go Launcher, too. It can has an unlimited number of screens and is VERY customizable, even the shortcuts/icons on the desktop. Before, i used launcherpro. But Go Launcher is free and even more customizable.
Go and ADW
Originally I was a fan of LP but since my discovery of ADW Ex I have been using the latter. Excellent launcher in every respect. Go Ex is also extremely good. My comments would be : Go Ex seems to me the best as far as the usability and inteface is concerned (if it works properly), it probably has the best themes as well. Another great point is the ease with which we can put multiple icons on the screen. BUT, I am having a few problems with it. Everytime I reboot the widgets disappear and I have to put them back again which is a pain. That is happeneing with ADW as well, perhaps its my ROM or kernel. It also seemed to be obviously slower than the ADW. So now I am using Go Ex with my tab and ADW on the Galaxy s phone. So ADW is definitely faster.
I used Go Launcher EX. Because its free.

What's the best Launcher?

So I've never used a launcher before this day. I always knew they had cool features but just didn't feel like learning a whole new launcher. In your opinion which one is the best? I will try any launcher paid or free. If it's free great but if it's worth the money I'll surely support the developer.
I tried GO Launcher EX and it looked alright... I guess, I put the Sense theme on(latest one) and it was bugged like ****, the menu buttons were covering the Sense buttons so I couldn't use them and it didn't even have the carousel effect, it just moved between pages normally. I don't know if I did something wrong(I even tried rebooting, still nothing), I just ran the Launcher and applied the Sense theme from within it. So from my experience this Launcher already sucks which brings us back to the main point of this topic; what is the best launcher(your personal favorite)?

I have also used GO launcher, Launcher Pro, and ADW. All of them seem to work well and are less laggy than the stock Touch Wiz launcher.

Go Launcher is and is extremely configurable. Check out all the preferences you can customize, then check out the themes. (Some paid themes and a bunch of free ones...just have to search for them.)
I LOVE the transparent theme combined with the transparent dock theme. You can apply themes to the GO Widgets also, which makes them look pretty nice.

Not true, I didnt see clear in there.
I've used all the popular launchers. My favorite is MIUI, but that requires MIUI Rom, which we don't have. My current launcher of choice is GO Launcher. It used to kind of suck, but they make improvements all the time and there are many really nice free themes for it. Right now I'm using Windows 7 theme.

ADW Launcher Ex/Launchers in general

That should help with the changing lockscreen. I did it on the fire itself without using adb though, just use your root explorer app, navigate to /data/data/com.android.settings/files/wallpaper, and disable write access. Anytime you want to change the wallpaper, though, you have to enable write access, change it, then disable.
If anyone knows a better way, feel free to chime in

I've recently been running Zeam on CM7. I like the minimalism and found it to be really zippy. No issues so far.
Is the Go Launcher EX smooth on the KF? I am gonna flash CM7 soon and wanted to integrate a launcher into the rom I will flash. Also, I used in on the stock, but sometimes the icon labels were cutoff/the Go Launcher EX menu was being clipped, I guess due to the bottom bar on the KF, is anyone else getting these problems?

Indeed. Plus, you can stack the dock with unlimited app icons negating the need to fiddle with folders or the default app drawer, which is kinda lacking IMO. I put my 20 or so most used apps in the dock and run altdrawer as the app drawer since it is more configurable. No more delays waiting for the home screen to re-draw when closing apps.

Over the past week or so, I have been gladly using Nova Launcher (you can download it from Google Play here) as it allows me to have several icons on my dock and obtain a stock ICS/Jelly Bean look that I absolutely adore. Yet, having unintentionally reverted back to Touchwiz, I've noticed just how much smoother the default Touchwiz launcher is compared to almost all of the custom launchers available for Android. So, does anyone know of a good launcher for the Samsung Galaxy Note which fits all of the stock widgets, has a landscape mode and, most importantly, doesn't lag?

Been using Nova Launcher for a while. But Touhwiz seems much smoother than all other launchers. Are there any other launchers which do not lag? Or is it possible to make the Touchwiz launcher run in landscape mode?

I also want a launcher which works with the S-Memo and other Galaxy Note widgets, as some I have noticed to not properly fit the widgets onto the screen.

My Note does not presently deep sleep, which I am working on trying to solve, but I've never found a launcher to cause any battery issues so I don't really see a need to worry about that. On a side note, does anyone here know of a way to obtain the widgets seen on the Nexus 7 stock home screens? You know, the ones shown in the picture here.

I do not want to over-clock either my GPU nor my CPU as this will drain more battery life and also require rooting.

Yes, it'd be a nice widget for our media oriented Galaxy Notes.

+1 ... but especially S-Planner!!
Or at least S-Planner should work as a Widget, i dont care that much about the other widgets.
Any tips? Or widgets who can sync with S-Planner?

I tried using apex launcher..but the wallpaper gets blown up (like it seems to force itself to become the multi-screen wallpaper style :s) anyone know a fix or why it is like that ? I tried using the SGS3 launcher and same thing happens.
