i've been using the stock wireless tethering setting to use phone as a hotspot (without the tethering plan) for my Iconia and PS3 for when i have to pull a 24hr duty at work. was working ok this morning, but i had to reboot my phone and my Iconia cause they were both acting slow. after that when i try to tether it will connect but cant do anything that requires internet. anyone know what might be the problem (besides not having the tethering plan, although never had it in the past). thanks for the help.

You may have gone over your 2 or 5 gig cap and are being throttled.
You've probably been throttled. When you go over your limit, it's practically unusable.

Hello all, i want to have access to wifi at work (dads bakery) there is no wifi signal there, is there other alternatives to have access to wifi? im not familiar with this things do i have to buy something portable to have it i do have 3g with t-mobile on my phone.
not sure what type of phone you have, but you can tether your "phone internet" to your transformer.
i just did it while on a road trip from my wife's old Palm treo Pro i connected via bluetooth tether
If you have an android phone, you can try to use the Bluetooth tethering option, which doesn't require rooting the phone. If you do a search on the forums, someone made a nice step by step guide for it. The bluetooth option never worked for me so I had to end up rooting my phone and then downloading wifi tether. Downside is it makes your phone really hot and can cause it to crash or turn off. I'm super ghetto so I have the back case off my phone leaned up against a fan hahahahaha....keeps it at a nice 79 degrees instead of 110 degrees.
I'm not an expert at these things either, I just looked for guides on this forum and also youtube. Took me a couple of days to get it all working. Goodluck!
You could try a wireless 'hotspot' from one of the wireless broadband providers too.

Does your dad's bakery have internet at all? If he has broadband there you could just setup a wireless router.

Depends on how much you use your TF for that purpose but 200MB is very little. Becareful about getting charged overages.
So, when I had my mytouch slide 3g I had it loaded with cm7 and could tether up to the 5gb throttling cap without having to worry about the service fee for wifi hotspot - however I was using the wifi tether for aosp app, not the built in. Is it the same with the 4g? Since I just got my phone this week, I'm still picking my rom (liking virtuosity), but wanted to know if I could go ahead and use the built-in wifi tethering without having to pay the service fee, or is there another option? Thanks!

Use Barnacle.
Barnacle works well from my touchpad, but not at all for laptop. Thoughts?? Also, so, you're saying I shouldn't use the rom wifi tether app??
Bueller????

I've had problems with that tether app on my G2. Barnacle's just easier to use and lets you control who has access to your data connection.
I have been having intermittent wifi tether issues with 2 different wifi tether/hot spot apps. 1 being "Wireless Tether", the other the official verizon hotspot app. It is also worth noting I have had the same issues with each individual tether app across many different roms, with/without kexec, and tested with more than one wifi connecting device.
The first is the Wireless tether app. I have it configured with wpa2 security, I've tried both generic ics profile and galaxy nexus cdma/lte. When I launch it and turn tether on it appears to work normally but most of the time it does not broadcast the SSID, preventing devices from seeing the neteork and connecting. Sometimes restarting tethering will solve it but usually I have to reboot the entire phone to get it to work and broadcast SSID.
With the verizon hotspot app the issue is completely different. It always starts and broadcasts SSID, but after some time the internet will start running very slow on the receiving device. If I look on the phone the 4g lte icon will then be off. If I run a speed test locally on the phone it performs great with 25mbps dl speed and then wifi data will start working again on the receiving device.
Am I doing something wrong or just the first to complain?

Try on the wifi tether app to use the Samsung Galaxy Nexus cdma/lte.
Sometimes I have to start/stop/restart mine to get it to work. Usually it works after a fresh reboot, turn it off for whatever reason breaks the ****ing thing and I gotta reboot. Sucky.
I haven't used vzw's app

Yea I've tried that profile as well and its the same. I know I can reboot but I find that unacceptable, esp with kexec. Ive never had these kind of issues with my dInc.

Sorry I couldn't be more help. I don't like rebooting just to get the tether working either but I want my ****ing tether so that's what I do.. haha
I hope someone comes up with a solution though :good:
I have the same issue so I switched to using FoxFi. Seems to work 100% of the time. Sucks that it doesn't have a widget to activate the hot spot with a single click.
I am running synergy 1.3 and wifi tether works fine!!

I'm considering changing my plan on Verizon from a data only to the Everything and getting the SIII. I never use the data plan for laptop anymore but just haven't close the account.
You might be able to answer my question... Does Verizon still charge wifi tether (hotspoting) fees on their new plans? Before, avoiding this fee was one of my main reasons for rooting my phone (different carrier).
I realize you're having trouble with this feature anyway.

On the new plans, it's free to tether. On the old unlimited plans, its a fee service.
Not that many of us pay it.
Data only plan? Can you elaborate at all please? I want aware of such thing...

Hello,
I have a rooted verizon S3 i535. I'm one of the lucky to be on the unlimited grandfathered plan. Anyways, I've been using wifi root tether for months and all of a sudden it just stopped working (yes I do have updates disabled, still on 4.0), well technically the wifi portion of the tether broke, it still starts but just no longer broadcasts the SSID. I also downloaded the SVTP wifi hotspot app (non-root) and that worked for a few days, it still starts up but I the wifi broadcast is now messed up on that device (can't connect with anything to the broadcasted network).
So anyways, I really need to get tether working again, I figure something is ****ed up likely with my S3, and I don't have too much time to **** with this, so I figured I'd just ROM it and start over. (Unless someone has some better advice?)
The only thing I really care about is wifi tether. What is a good ROM that you would recommend for me to use to get this back?

Rom: ICE 9.3
Kernal: NX R6
So I'm in a weird situation. I'm living in a home right now with no wifi but I'm lucky enough to have located XFinitys free wifi hotspot, which I have a plan at home, and will only require you type in your username and password to be connected to it.
I have unlimited data on tmobile but I honestly rather utilize xtinitys wifi as my hotspot/tether than my tmobile data. I want to make sure I'm not burning through my family's data for the month as although I have unlimited data i do believe they slow it down after a certain amount of usage. I've heard Tmobile One doesn't do that but we dont have it.
Thanks.
P.S. Also as a worst case scenario if someone could also tell me if theirs a way to use my tmobile data plan without them knowing I'm tethering as sometimes this Xfinity connection is unstable. Thanks again
PDAnet or NetShare apps should fix ya up. I use PDAnet without issues.

easy tether will also do it.
