[Q] Root a 3.2.2 stock ROM - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone !
I have a french WiFi Xoom. I get it updated to stock 3.2.2 on the air.
I'm searching for the best way to root it now it is allready updated to 3.2.2. Hope somenone here can help me
Also, note that when I start it in recovery mode, the only option I have are:
- reboot system now
- apply update from USB drive
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
Off course, I'd like to keep french language available
Thank you for those who may try to help me.

did you try this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17135571
this worked for me but mine was on 3.1 stock

I saw this post, but I was wondering if this way to root would allow me to keep the french language...
Anyway, if I keep my AZERTY keyboard, and my dictionary, I guess I could go on with English....
It's the only one post I saw wich could help me, so may be I'm gonna try this way

Well, finaly this solution was okay, but then, I went to the TIAMAT rom !!

If you have the original ROM, just do an hard reset!
Unfortunately I need the rom as I have made many changes.
Any ideas?
So you want to change the ROM back to how it was when you got it, but actually you want the ROM as it is now?
I think you should choose what you want first
1) Keep your changes - don't do anything?
2) Good as new - hard reset.
What I want is to put the phone back to exactly how it was from the factory.
I do not want to keep it as it is now.
A hard reset does not work - that's why I need the original rom.
Thanks

If you did not flash a custom ROM, then a hard reset WILL make it back to factory default.

Not sure I understand but if you flash the Odachi kernel (alone, or over the Moray rom) you will get the update to 3.2.1. That's the highest honeycomb version for WiFi only.
Sorry its coming up with a software update but I thort that in england we only got the 3.2 so im worried. Do I download the update or just leave it im on 3.2 rooted at the moment

I you are rooted, don't accept any OTA updates...you will screw-up your Xoom.
Just flash the Moray Rom, or Odachi kernel or the rom 1st and kernel 2nd, then you will be all updated and very happy. The rom will require you to do a factory reset/data wipe through CWM Recovery menu, though...just a warning so you can back everything up. Run a nandroid just in case, too.
thanks soo much i bricked my xoom and just mannaged to get it out as i didnt read ur reply in time wont be doing that again. will it work on my uk wifi only? and is titanium a good program to back everything up as an .img? again thank uv help me on nearly all my threads

You don't need to re-install stock. You probably don't have the binary installed properly and that's why it's giving you trouble.
Simply flash either SuperSU and SuperUser and that should be fine.
You can get either one from here:

I wouldn't know, it would be better for you to ask in the Strawberry thread.
A lot of problems can be fixed simply by reflashing either the rom or the kernel. You could try reflashing Strawberry without wiping anything and also after that fixing permissions. Good luck.

[4.4.4][ktu84p]STOCK Rooted with busybox for tilapia[6/19/14]

It is cooked from the Google stock image for tilpia and is NOT deodexed
This is the first time i am posting a ROM on XDA.
Been cooking ROM's for a while for my old Samsung devices.
The whole reason for this thread is to have a flashable zip for any Nexus 7(2012) 3g user who wishes to stay stock.
I have tested it on my Nexus 7, if anyone has any issues do let me and please bear with me as im not a developer and just sharing what i personally use.
Will try and help with what ever i can.
************** For some Reason the boot logo does not show up, dont worry, wait for sometime, the ROM will boot up***********
Note:
1. Works with multirom.
2. Odexed for my personal use, if anyone wishes to de-odex it, do let me know.
3. This includes the stock kernel. I also tested the latest stable mkernel which is for 4.4.2 and works fine.(works with the new kitkat 4.4.4 too)

Installation:
1. Reboot to recovery
2. Do a factory reset.
3. Go to advanced wipe settings and select system, dalvik and cache and format them.
4. Flash Rom
First boot takes time, wait patiently. There wont be any boot animation, so wait on that black screen for sometime
Profit :good:

Update your bootloader and radio first. And clean flash is recommended though there are not much of changes from 4.4.2 but as you mentioned you are using 4.4 clean wipe and installing is preferred.
thank you very much! stock rocks! :good::good:
PS: root & bbox?
Thanks alot
Hi!
First of all - thanks for your clean/xposed ROM.
I only have one question. Would it still be possible to send SMS from my Tilapia-tablet (Nexus 7-2012/3G) after flashing your ROM?
BTW : @RomerGG - The threads' header should already have answered your question...
Regards,
Roy

Haven't tried that. Unfortunately i have a pure data plan, so my provider restricts sms by default. And i cant take out the sim and replace as i was once trying to break open my sim slot and take out the sim, during that crazy struggle i guess i broke that sim holder. so once the sim comes out, i have to struggle a lot to get the network back on by replacing it
Edit: dont think hangouts will give the sms sending option by any chance. So try with a third party app and let us know
Thanks for the stock rooted rom. FYI, I had flashed CF SuperSU v1.99r4 and also MKernel a67, looks okay so far. I'm updating the Google apps from Play store now. Once done, I'll be installing TB to restore my apps.
One word of caution to those flashing this rom. Note that there seems to be no bootanimation, so don't be mistaken that the rom is not working. Give it time to boot up. :good:
Edit:
One thing I noticed strange is in TB, System ROM is showing 670MB (8.45 MB free). Before this, I was on 4.4.2 stock rooted, before I manually flashed boot.img and system.img. It was showing same results, but 9.XX MB free. Is this correct? I vaguely remembered that it should be almost 900 plus MB. Can anyone confirm?

To flash them you need to enable USB debugging and then reboot to bootloader. Here use the following fastboot commands.
For Updating bootloader:
fastboot flash bootloader name_of_the_bootloader_file.img
For radio:
fastboot flash radio name_of_the_radio_file.img
If you want a detailed instruction, go here and follow Method 2.

It is the same file as the one google pushes for Nexus 7 device. So what ever is present in the original stock image, will be there.
Menu button is only active in apps that give it by default, there is an xposed module which can activate menu button in every app.
For ART, not sure why google misses the option to switch to ART every time on Nexus 7 devices. Will check and see how to add that option.

It is dalvik. Google does not seem to want including ART for the nexus 7. Read somewhere on google forums that it might be a hardware issue cos of which they are not including it.
flashing aborted
Version tilapia2 flashing aborted, version tilapia 1 ok. Do you know where is the problem? Using the latest version of the recovery v6.0.4.3.
Good work! I maintain BSZKitKat for grouper (ODEX and DEODEX). Awesome job getting right in front of the 4.4.4 update!

Correct - we lack sufficient space on the /system partition for the binaries required for switching to ART
Cant' flash this rom, i get an error and the message FAILED.
I'm using TWRP recovery 2.7.
Can we have a flashable zip please?
It is much easier to deal with!
Thanks

A Test Ubuntu Touch Rom For Milestone2

Hello everyone, i have learned to port ubuntu touch on other device for a few days, and this is the first time for me to port a ubuntu touch rom.
This rom is based on phablet-20130303-cm_mb526.zip for defy, and i added some milestone2's bin, lib, bootmenu and etc in it so that it could run on our milestone2.
Don't get happy yet. As you know, i'm new here and i even don't have this phone(i have d2g, it doesn't have any cm10.1+ rom). so this rom is just a homework for me to check whether i could port ubuntu touch or not. i don't know what will happen after you flash this rom, so please make sure that you can fix your phone by bootmenu or rsd.
how to flash it?
1. Backup your current Rom.
2. Download the Milestone2 Mini-Android base for Ubuntu Touch and place it on your device:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bylduk-LZybUelp6SGV0ZFlvWGM/view?usp=sharing
3. Download the Touch Preview Filesystem .zip and place it on your device:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dg5bf836ohvioot
4. Wipe all (data/cache, dalvik cache)
IMPORTANT:
5. Install the armhf package FIRST, and then the phablet-20141025-ubuntutouch_milestone2.zip SECOND.
thanks for @lukasz124 finding this problem!
6. Reboot and See whether your device can boot or not.(it will cost about 5-10 minutes for your device to boot if this rom could work, and no bootanimation!)
7a. To switch off your phone remove the battery manually
7b. To return back to android reboot back into recovery and reinstall or restore your rom.
8. If your rom is not booting it could be due to the ext 4 format of /data so go into stock recovery and wipe all (data/cache, dalvik cache), reboot, reinstall.
and that is all. i can't wait to see whether this rom can work or not!
thanks MYHK-to help me porting this rom kayant-for his defy ubuntu touch rom e-mars-for his porting work on cm
Tks, Anyone out there already tested? Has some print? Do you know if wifi, usb, etc, is working? Thanks

thank you for your testing, it's a really strange problem. the Mini-Android base is port from cm11- milestone2 by e-mars and the Touch Preview Filesystem is official. i don't know whether my sign tool is ok or not, and i don't know if the script works well. you know is hard for me to solve any problem, but i always keep on trying it.
maybe i have to find others to keep on this project, i think if someone have any skill, it's not hard for him to port it.

I disabled signature checking, so it is not that. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with logging CWM otherwise you would get a nice log : D Yeah, it seems like a nice project, hopefully some people will join, droid/milestone series seems like a perfect one for Ubuntu.

thank you for your helping!
i think cwm is ok, the log will only be used to find what cause the problem, and that will cost a long time... maybe after the android5.0 of milestone2 come out. the android 5.0 of defy came out yesterday in China and Russia, it won't take a long time to wait for the android 5.0 of miletone2.
but ubuntu touch of milestone2 is different..... as you know i don't have milestone2, it should take a long time in printing logs over and over again to find problem.
Did anyone install this?
I also got infinite reboot
I could donate you my kind of old milestone 2. Depends on postal charges, tho. Pm me, if you're interested.
