A Test Ubuntu Touch Rom For Milestone2 - Milestone 2 Android Development

Hello everyone, i have learned to port ubuntu touch on other device for a few days, and this is the first time for me to port a ubuntu touch rom.
This rom is based on phablet-20130303-cm_mb526.zip for defy, and i added some milestone2's bin, lib, bootmenu and etc in it so that it could run on our milestone2.
Don't get happy yet. As you know, i'm new here and i even don't have this phone(i have d2g, it doesn't have any cm10.1+ rom). so this rom is just a homework for me to check whether i could port ubuntu touch or not. i don't know what will happen after you flash this rom, so please make sure that you can fix your phone by bootmenu or rsd.
how to flash it?
1. Backup your current Rom.
2. Download the Milestone2 Mini-Android base for Ubuntu Touch and place it on your device:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bylduk-LZybUelp6SGV0ZFlvWGM/view?usp=sharing
3. Download the Touch Preview Filesystem .zip and place it on your device:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dg5bf836ohvioot
4. Wipe all (data/cache, dalvik cache)
IMPORTANT:
5. Install the armhf package FIRST, and then the phablet-20141025-ubuntutouch_milestone2.zip SECOND.
thanks for @lukasz124 finding this problem!
6. Reboot and See whether your device can boot or not.(it will cost about 5-10 minutes for your device to boot if this rom could work, and no bootanimation!)
7a. To switch off your phone remove the battery manually
7b. To return back to android reboot back into recovery and reinstall or restore your rom.
8. If your rom is not booting it could be due to the ext 4 format of /data so go into stock recovery and wipe all (data/cache, dalvik cache), reboot, reinstall.
and that is all. i can't wait to see whether this rom can work or not!
thanks MYHK-to help me porting this rom kayant-for his defy ubuntu touch rom e-mars-for his porting work on cm

Tks, Anyone out there already tested? Has some print? Do you know if wifi, usb, etc, is working? Thanks

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TESTING. there are two .zip file to flash, please tell me which .zip file could not install, thank you!

No problem. I could not make either one to work. Tried CWM and "install zip file", is this the correct procedure?

thank you for your testing, it's a really strange problem. the Mini-Android base is port from cm11- milestone2 by e-mars and the Touch Preview Filesystem is official. i don't know whether my sign tool is ok or not, and i don't know if the script works well. you know is hard for me to solve any problem, but i always keep on trying it.
maybe i have to find others to keep on this project, i think if someone have any skill, it's not hard for him to port it.

I disabled signature checking, so it is not that. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with logging CWM otherwise you would get a nice log : D Yeah, it seems like a nice project, hopefully some people will join, droid/milestone series seems like a perfect one for Ubuntu.

Hi!! Thanks for trying to bring Ubuntu to our Milestone 2!
I've tried to install, but the system goes on infinite reboot. I think I'm doing something wrong.

What kind of methods would you use to flash it? Is cwm good enough or do you need adb?

thank you for your helping!
i think cwm is ok, the log will only be used to find what cause the problem, and that will cost a long time... maybe after the android5.0 of milestone2 come out. the android 5.0 of defy came out yesterday in China and Russia, it won't take a long time to wait for the android 5.0 of miletone2.
but ubuntu touch of milestone2 is different..... as you know i don't have milestone2, it should take a long time in printing logs over and over again to find problem.

Did anyone install this?

I also got infinite reboot

I could donate you my kind of old milestone 2. Depends on postal charges, tho. Pm me, if you're interested.

Typical recovery log shows that everything worked, although it still flagged an error.
The log is the ONLY file that my code additions write anywhere on the device other then the recovery img flashing.
I am honestly at a loss to what can cause your main rom to fail booting.
What rom do you normally run?

i was using ieftm's rooted 2.2 rom (the first one he made, it's probably outdated now), i'm thinking it might have something to do with the symlinked bootanimation, since it reboots before it shows it. gonna reflash now anyway, since i've been meaning to for a while...
can anyone upload unrEVOked for desire???
and can i use HTC sense rom?
So let me get this right, now we can have this with any rom and keep all usb usage (I'm using leedroid 2.1) within our roms? Just adds an extra menu in recovery?

Root gone wrong SGT 2 7.0

Hello guys,
I just got my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and wanted to mess around with it and root it. I thought I did everything correctly - it won't let me post the site I used .
However, now I am in a pickle. Whenever I start my SGT, it gets to the Samsung loading screen, does the intro tune, and then just starts all over again. I tried doing a hard reset and I tried wiping all of the cache/saved files/etc. but nothing seems to work. I am at a loss as to what I can do. Has anyone seen this before or is there a way around it? Is there anything I can do?
Much Appreciated,
Sam

I am not entirely too sure, to be honest - I wish it would be let me post the site I used haha.
I used the below ClockworkMod Recovery:
imnuts’ CWM Recovery image
I downloaded the developer nycbjr’s rooting package - cwm-root-gtab2.zip
Does that answer your question?
Kinda. Did you just want root or a custom firmware as well? I am am running the CM9 and I'm very pleased with it. :good: Not as flashy as the stock but it is a performer.

Honestly, I am not even 100% sure why I did it. I was browsing the Android Market and got some apps I liked. The issue arose when I tried using them it requested that I have root powers - I wasn't really trying to modify the os or anything like but was just looking to get root powers. If I hook up my phone to my laptop and put it into Recovery Mode and run Odin, can I PDA the CM9? Do you think that would help? Is there anyway to reset it through Odin? When I do a hard reset, literally nothing changes.
Please post the link to the root method you used. I have a hunch you tried to flash a zip for the gtab 10.1.

Can you access CWM recovery? BTW, you can post links if you uncheck "automatically parse links". Also, you don't have to email me, PM me, AND post here-- one of those will suffice.

I can access CWM recovery. However, none of the options in there seem to really do anything.
Edit: Yea, my apologies on that. I was trying to e-mail you the link and I didn't get a sent confirmation and it said I had nothing in my sent messages so I tried PMing you and the same thing happened. I'll stick to the forums so everyone can see this as it may help people, I just didn't know there was a way around the link . My bad.
It's fine. Back to work, what you call a soft bricked tab is what I call an opportunity to flash a new ROM. I'm a tab 10.1 guy so I can't recommend a specific ROM. But I've heard good things about Tab2Lite and CM9.

The ROM that I used was cwm-root-gtab2, correct? I had to download a bunch of files and I am trying to make sense out of what is what. Now, when you said I need to get a new ROM, would that consist of me putting a new ROM on the external SD and then running that?

Hey guys, I want to thank both of you for your help! I was able to reset my tab and it now works. It looks like I used the wrong espresso file . If possible, I would still love for an explanation of my above question - just so I know for the future. But other than that, thank you for both!

Basically if your tab is on the latest firmware image, you need the latest espresso file. I'm guessing that you were on 4.0.4 and the espresso file you first flashed was for 4.0.3. That happened to myself and a few other people as it's not really clear what you need in those guides!

TF300t infinite reboot loop on asus screen after installing "THe ultra fast rom"

TF300t infinite reboot loop on asus screen after installing "THe ultra fast rom"
HI
I wanted to try out a new ROM for my TF300t. I ended up trying the ultra fast rom by surdu_petru. I did as he told, downloaded the 300 something mb file and copied it on to my device. I have bootloader unlocked, rooted and previously had CleanRom installed. I wiped cache and dalvik cache. Install took a while, but finally when it was done, i rebooted the device. It was stuck on the asus logo for a while, until it rebooted and so on and so on. There is NO use holding down the power button, it just keeps going. Iv tried power+volum+ and -. I am not very expirienced with this so i have no idea whats going on, its like an infinite boot loop.
I noticed something right after install that said unable to mount something..... I was in a hurry so i did not really care about it.
Any help would be apriciated.
EDIT!!
I feel like this thread is a bit messy, but here is where i am.
I am able to get into fastboot. I am also able to get into recover (TWRP). I have 1 backup of the official and stock 4.1.1. Should i install it, or should i try again the ultra fast ROM, as i am curious about why it failed. I also have my CleanROM.zip on my device. This is the first time something like this is happening to me, so im trying to learn from my mistakes ^^
EDIT, seems like i was not trying hard enough to get into fastboot, got in, just had to be quick enough. (PHEW) Now what?
Hi.
I'm stuck in the white asus logo. I don't know if it's the same problem you have, is it? I dont' know what to do

HI, if it keeps rebooting, hold down the power until it goes black, then release it. Quickly after hold down powerbutton+volum down. You should then be in fastboot. If you manage to get into fastboot, normally there should be no worries. As im kind of noob myself im not going to tell you what to do, as it might just make things worse. Try to wait for someone who knows this stuff to answer
Hey, thanks!
I already done that and I get to these 4 icons/options. The only thing I can do is going to Recovery mode (menu with options to install rom from zip, etç...) I can't do nothing more. Is this what you're saying? Can I just install a rom and it will work???

First off, what recovery are you using? (TWRP, CWM?) Secondly, have you made a backup of a working ROM that you have been using? If so, you should be able to get into recovery and flash it. (As i said, you SHOULD wait for some pros, im not very expirienced with this!!!!! and i might be wrong).

There is your problem! The ROM can only be installed using TWRP. I suggest you try out a ROM like the new Cyanogenmod 4.2, as it seems to only support CWM (i might be wrong).

The ROM you tried to install can only be installed using TWRP, not CWM recovery as you are using. Thats why (i think) you got stuck after install. I recommend you install TWRP, because as far as i know its better than CWM. Just go the developement section and you should find it there.

Aside from reading somewhere that the newer versions of android(4.2+) will require a recovery update.
Also saw it here too.
Both of these recoveries have installing from sideload, ability to delete backups from within the recovery, higher version numbers(always means better -_-) and some other minor things.
TWRP you can name backups immediately. Full touch interface, extremely theme-able. Works well with GooManager. Queue multiple zips.
CWM has another backup type option dedupe(not a fan of it). Looks better...
Essentially about as technical as going from ICS to JB and JB to new JB. -_-
post the boardconfig.mk you used with this, let me see if you're missing any flags

Its the default one on TeamDS. Minor changes because I had to use that prebuild kernel. Its currently a mess. What do you think would be missing? Have you encountered any problems?

When I turned on the theme prom and the emulate processes or something like that in twrp I had problems flaking a rom I even rebooted the recovery so I turned that option off then my roms flash again

Exact options would be helpful...
Anyway. If you turned on a theme and the simulate actions for theme testing.
Then I assume the simulate options is what caused the not problem you had.
Before you start creating a custom theme, you should tap on settings and tap the checkbox for "Simulate most actions for theme testing" to enable simualation mode. This setting will cause TWRP to simulate most actions including installing zips, backup, restore, partitioning sdcards, etc. In this mode you can safely test a theme without wearing out the memory chips on your device. There's also a checkbox for simulating failure that will appear on the settings page when you turn on simulation mode. This checkbox will cause TWRP to report a failure for all simulated actions instead of success so that you can provide the appropriate message on the screen. Don't forget to disable simulation mode when you're done!

Aside from reading somewhere that the newer versions of android(4.2+) will require a recovery update.

Is the new CWM or TWRP compatible with the backups done with CWM 5.5.0.4/5.0.2.7? All of my nandroid backups are done with 5.5.0.4.

TWRP is not compatible with CWM and vice versa. The CWM backups should still be compatible. One way to test is to flash, see what happens if it doesnt work... go back? Doesnt kill. I did it when testing and swapped between TWRP and CWM and back to old 5.5.0.4 then back to these again. Now I'm on TWRP, hopefully permanently.
Flashed TWRP and immediately backed up my CM9 nightly without a problem. Mounted USB storage and transferred over a new ROM, went back and forth to bootloader since I'm S-ON, no problem. This recovery doesn't feel beta to me, in a good way. I haven't tried restoring from my backup yet but I'm not worried. I got spoiled using 4EXT on my old phone and going back to CWM never felt right. This TWRP is definitely a step in the right direction. Being able to boot into bootloader from recovery is awesome from a S-ON standpoint. No more waiting to power off and then restart holding buttons or screwing it up and having to remove my case for a batpull. Full touch support speaks for itself.
Thanks so much for getting us a new recovery option. This is the biggest update for our device in a while :good:

Overall they should be stable, I listed them as beta because I cannot account my successes as testing. I would like to see a few more pages before classifying as stable.
I'd also like to possibly build them completely from source at some point too.
@SilverL
I just noticed your thread and I'm glad you saved me time updating my TWRP recovery. I lost all the source code of my previous twrp and was frustrated porting it again from scratch Downloading it now...
By the way the offline charging version of my TWRP is here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1374782&d=1349346744
just extract the ramdisk and you should see the workaround I made. There's no additional binary added. The offline charging I made is just pure shell script and edits on the rc files so it should be pretty easy for you.
Regarding a full compile use a CM7 kernel and add the doubleshot board files and drivers and you should be good to go. Also I used the boardconfig of MT4G(non slide).
Anyways the boardconfig isn't the issue but the kernel. The USB driver of ICS isn't compatible with twrp and that's the issue. Even Dees_Troy couldn't even make a build with fully working USB on CM9

Thanks, I figured it needed a gb kernel to do its thing. Especially after I realize the android usb kernel driver is also responsible for adb(which didnt work either). Also its not just with twrp, it affects cwm as well. Both of these use the exact same kernel.
If getting an old kernel if required then I wont even worry about it. I'll just keep my CM10 build environment the way it is just in case I have to update these in the future. I will also check out the shell script and the rc edit. Thanks, if you want to take twrp back its all yours.

Can't do anything as of the moment since I don't have any working MT4GS at hand. Also I have lots of different projects planned so I might leave twrp to you as it is here.

I'll try to throw this in for the guys that want it....
And since no one has complained(except for that one guy who couldnt flash because he put his phone in the 'feature' to simulate those events rather than actually do them) or died. I'll consider these stable.
Might also have to add my usual, "I am a jerk. Will laugh at you if you do something dumb, etc." disclaimer to this as well since.... most people dont know that I am. -_-
Flashed CWM 6!!!
everything is fine
however, transfering titanium backup files from pc to microsd class 10 is kinda of slow when i mounted it as usb storage inside the recovery
and
thank you for your good work. What's next? CWM touch?

moto g does not boot

hello everyone,
i'm developing a game with unity and sometimes when i compile and inject the game on the phone it crashes and forces me to factory reset the phone through fastboot. i've done it like 3 times already with no problems.
but today it happened again and the phone just wouldnt recover, i've tried the fix that this video (youtube.com/watch?v=laU6NQ0LxR0) shows but it still does not boot.
I am able to enter fastboot and my computer recognizes the mobile phone so that's a great start :victory:
not sure what guide to follow since i'm not sure whether the problem is on the rom or something else.
can someone give me a tip on what fix should I try? cant really afford to lose my phone right now
it has (had) a stock rom 4.4.2 with stock bootloader, tho i tried to install the fix in the video i've said earlier and i'm not sure whether it changed the rom or not.
thanks

/Data gets corrupted
Even, I had the same issue. I tried flashing ROMs through recovery but it gave me error that/data/media/0/ can't be mounted. The only way to get out I found was to full format /data and /storage (philz recovery) and then to push ROM. zip to/sdcard through adb and then to flash it through recovery.
Hope it helps someone.
