Next Android version? - HTC Sensation

So as everyone is aware, ICS is coming to the Sensation - however I'm curious as to whether it'll support video calling natively? Clearly it is possible to do, and frankly I was disappointed that HTC didn't take the same initiative as Samsung to put their own video-calling in. But I'd like to see the option there ASAP!

im sure you can use skype and google talk to video call on senny.

Yes, but it requires the person you're calling to have Skype, or else "skype credit". Ditto for Google, they need the app.

I use tango for video calls

you can video chat with anyone with gmail account and a vid capable computer. (and phones with the app of course).
think it's about as "native" as it's gonna get on google's eco system.

I think the OP is looking for Android to gets it's equivalent to Apple's Facetime.
Right?

as far as im aware Samsung phones dont have own video calling app.
they use google talk and skype too, gtalk being free 100%.

Google Talk would be the most likely equivalent to Apple's FaceTime.
Comes built in with video talk tech on Android 2.3.5

I'm not sure I follow. Idk how much more native you want being that gtalk comes on most Android phones. You look at the iPhone face time is only for I phone 4 now 4s and the iPad and iPod. Maybe the better word he's looking for is deeper integration maybe

ICS source code should be out November 17th, so custom roms will have ICS support soon!

means new CM will start to be made!
Hopefully we have CM nightlies by January.

I know that this problem/question is many time mentioned but seems that some do not understand the purpose for so called "native video calls support".
Do I have to know what video call application my responder must have installed just to effectively make a video call ? NO it's just lame. Even old nokia phones support video calls NATIVELY, so it's just an excuse of lousy google coders or another limitation between different platforms.

I've often thought this was a bit stupid from Android/HTC's point of view. My old Sony Ericsson could do it.

Exactly. It should be integrated like making a phone call or sending an SMS. Tap on the person in your contacts and it comes up with another option to video call.
The biggest thing I think should happen is if your on a call to someone you have the option of transferring to video call, just like you can put the call on speaker phone. Full native integration. Hell, I could do this simple transfer on the Sony.
Here's hoping though.

3G Unristirctor for Android

Did a search in the forum and found several old posts about 3G unristirctor for Android but it seems no luck yet. I just switched from iphone to a samsung infuse. I'm missing that tiny app on ios. There are some apps not working without wifi. Anybody knows why there's not something similar for the open source android platform? Is it difficult technically or there are some other reasons?

What apps are talking about that only allow WiFi? Is been a while since I held an iPhone in my hands but when I switched over to Android I wanted the same thing that you want just because Skype didn't allow you to make calls over 3G but now that's solved and I don't really see a need for this type of app in the Android world.
Speaking from experience, you'll stop wanting all of these "iphone fan" apps after a couple of mouths...TRUST ME! After getting my feet wet and playing around with all the different types of Android apps and flashing custom roms and kernels, there's NO FREAKING way I would get an iPhone!!
I agree. But in the future when Skype support video chat on the phone, I doubt they will allow video chat on wifi only. I'm saying that because another chat tool I'm using - QQ - does support video chat, but not working on 3G/4G.

Inspire voice control

Coming from an HTC Tilt 2 WinMo phone I really expected "upgrading" to an android phone was going to blow my socks off. I used voice control for everything on my Tilt 2, playing music, making calls,.........Mind you my Inspire does meet or exceed my expectations in a bunch of areas.
But, I don't understand why Microsoft can have a voice control app that works and Android/Google just can't seem to get it right. I can't find an app for my Inspire that even comes close to Microsoft Voice Command. I would pay a developer at least $10 for a voice controller that works. Looking through posts it would appear that I'm not the only one with this complaint. Can anyone point me in the direction of a voice app that works?
Google seems to work well for me - especially transcribing sms or emails...what exactly is it not doing for you?

I don't do any transcribing. I do use my phone via bluetooth to play music. I could tell MS voice control to play an album and it was accurate 99% of the time. I can't find anything for android that works. I also used MS voice control to make phone calls via bluetooth while driving, was also pretty accurate. I have tried voice dial for android and in my opinion the software is almost useless. Basically almost all the stuff considered "hands free" except maybe transcribing sms or emails is like beta software or broken.
If I was capable of writing the software I bet I could make a ton of money. If you google it you will find plenty of people looking for the same thing. Microsoft should port their software to android and put it on the market place.

Video Chat options: Tango is working, Google Talk A/V Not,or substitute streaming app

Dear All,
TANGO
I am so happy that Tango VideoChat is working!! I suppose all ROMS taking the front vs back camera into consideration
GTALK
I am upset though and please forgive me for insisting for GTALK, I really hope this is not an ARM processor instruction set issue on our device, but if yes, still I dont understand why its really impossible to make the correct patches to make it work, and why Tango is able to utilize...
On other phones it works, like cheap Xperia's and our ChaCha not..it seems unfortunately
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056793
[APP][ROOT] Google Talk 1.3 with Video calling, Now wifi optional - is the title.
Under this thread there are various ways to install the video version enabled of GTalk. Personally I succeeded with the installation with @MOdaco install apk way and I can log in, chat with no problem. It also displays the camera icon correctly.
Only when I try to make a Video call from my side it hangs, and if other party tries to call me it refers to a network problem
USTREAM, BAMBUSER
(I prefer Bambuser due to the settings more versatility and I think better quality)
can be a Workaround to make your family at home see what you are doing instead of videochat and while streaming in the background you can initiate a call with VIBER for instance
If any other less battery sucking or nicer ways come out nonetheless GTALK updates make possible to work I will post it while being curious what others use... especially for phone to pc (mac)

Fine! I think it should work with Yahoo Messenger too, but wasn't able to try it yet because no one uses it.

Like I wrote in another posting 10 minutes ago, it is not possible getting this to work. I don't understand too why Google is doing this and I also don't even understand why voice talk won't work without video talk (on the PC it does, on Android phones not).

Similar here - so nothing with Google Talk yet.
There was some App that promises video for Google Talk on phones where it usually won't work. But don't try this, it doesn't work on the Chacha either.
Gtalk-Vtok
There is an app called Vtok on the market which works (with some minor issues eg you cant log out), but its a real battery drainer, so I installed it for case in need, but freezing it for normally...

[Q] Best Wifi Calling App

What is the best WiFI calling app for windows phone? It needs to be cross platform to iOS.
From the reviews ive read Viber and Skype dont work at all? is this true? Im heading down to Peru and it would be helpful to make WiFi calls.
Thanks,
Skype and Viber both work fine for me to any platform. Best one varies on time of day, network loads and what country you call.
Not sure where people come up with the loads of misinformation there is about WP8. Possibly due to WP7's patchy support and API's but for general day-to-day usage, WP8 is the same as the rest.
Yep I use Skype all the time with no problems at all.
MobileVOIP is also okay...
I downloaded and installed Skype on my 1020 but I never had chance to test it because I have had to send my phone off for a new screen But before I get it back, What program are you using and when other programs work like Skype?
Skype is the best for me.

Line and Skype are the best WiFi Application. I have used both of them on my Nokia Lumia 1020 and also the video clarity is very good.

Alternative to skype for text/video chat?

I have android s7edge, kids (approx 10 years old) have no phones, but do have ipads. I have been using skype to text/video with them when they are home after school or I run out. I have been frustrated with skype for a while, they never seem to get notified unless I video call them. Now lately they don't even get 90% my text messages even though they can see I'm online, I get their texts, and we can video call.
Looking for an alternative....
-has to work 99.9% reliably
-do not want a trendy/anonymous/dating/whatever app of the week. They imessage & facetime with a few close friends, I don't want to open floodgates of chat apps.
-Hangouts, seems perfect but never really caught on. I'm afraid google will axe it at any moment.
-Allo/Duo-why 2 more freaking apps? If google just would have made one new app to refresh Hangouts.... plenty been said on this topic
-WhatsApp-doesnt work since they don't have phones yet
-buy an iPhone8
-or ????
Thanks in advance!
